Amazing food. Cool and funky decor. As other reviews have stated the staff is "interesting" in appearance but are very helpful and friendly.

Incredibly rude help. Ordered oatmeal, a bowl was put on the counter, had to find the oatmeal myself which was empty. Had to get the attention of someone, not easy. Seems that if you are not part of the group you are ignored even if you are a customer. Food was great! read more

My husband and I had breakfast here on a recent trip to Petoskey. It's really quirky on the inside - bright and colorful with lots of different textures. The half booths (not quite sure what to call them) are a great idea but I found them too deep to sit in comfortably, and I'm average height. We both had the breakfast number 1 plate with spicy potatoes. They're not super spicy but nicely flavored. The sourdough bread was interesting. I'm not a coffee drinker so was looking for pop. They don't have mainstream pop options (no Pepsi or Coke). They had...I think a Northwoods' pop machine. The Sprite-esque drink was pretty good. We both enjoyed our food. My husband's coffee was good. It was clean. LOVE the bathroom area - so quirky. We would definitely go back. Nice staff. read more

This is the weirdest review I'll give on Yelp. YES THEIR COFFEE IS SO GOOD... However I left there feeling stressed out. The barista was yelling and spilling milk on the floor. It's just coffee lady... Everything's okay. Bad environment but excellent coffee. If you don't care about sitting around there then it's a 5, but something was off. read more

I went here for lunch on a Saturday, and although extremely crowded, it was super good. I ordered for pick up but still had to wait at least 20 mins once I got there for the food still. I got the chicken gyro, and it was amazing. They also have gluten free bread for sandwiches. read more

By far the dirtiest place I've ever dared to eat, including that all-but-abandoned Ukrainian orphanage back in the 90s. I fully expect to be sick in an hour. Bagel was charred black, but I was too intimidated by the petulant teenagers behind the counter to ask for a redo. That and the distressing club music did a good job of discouraging loitering. Wish there was a way to rate them twice. Their coffee is incredible. I ordered online the Palette Bistro Blend. 5 stars. I give them a two star because my order arrived in an old priority box with half a dozen dried lemon seeds rattling on the bottom of the crushed box along with a crumpled newspaper. They have a menu at the bottom that claims to be Servesafe Allergen certified and ask for allergen safe items. Go there with my son who has a severe peanut and tree nut allergy and to ask what items are safe for him. Guy at the counter had not a clue what that type of allergy means. We ask about cross contamination measures and he said they don't cross contaminate "most of the time" and referenced putting different ingredients together for an item while making it thinking that meant the same as cross contamination. When he went to ask one of the cooks if anything was safe the cook said they use a lot of nuts and don't really clean up after. What a joke to call themselves allergy serve safe. This place is a threat to allergies, not serve safe certified. read more

sloppy. at best. been by this place 100 times and never stopped in, but this day we did. i get what they're trying to do, and for a certain clientele it's probably fine. lots of energy and a high tattoo to piercing ratio. i expect they will all register to vote by 11/6, when the recreational marijuana issue comes to a vote. unfortunately, as a restaurant, it is a sloppy operation with mediocre food, at best. wish them well, but will not be returning. read more

The Blackwhich, almond mocha joy, and the Dr. Evil soda! Enough said! So delicious, I'm a regular there for these fantastic three, but they have a lot of good choices, the chai latte is nice on the fall. Absolutely love the place. I go there for coffee and breakfast. Yes, it is quirky, different, in an old building, and is anything but mainstream - which are all part of what makes it a wonderful place to go and have coffee or a bite to eat. I am always impressed by the staff - I was there the morning of the sidewalk sale and they were working like a machine. I like that I get to try a different coffee almost every day. They brew and have available at least three caffeinated and two decaf coffees available. It may be Rwandan, Ethiopian, Colombian, Amaretto, Tanzanian Peaberry, Mocha, Java, or something else. The cinnamon rolls are very good, as are the bagels, scones, and muffins. All fresh baked and not your run of the mill stuff (strawberry orange zest scones - very good!). Each day can have different baked goods. The cherry cream cheese is made in house. They have great breakfast sandwiches and you can even get oatmeal (and add nuts and dried cherries). You can sit outside in front (limited) inside, or on the back deck overlooking Little Traverse Bay. Free wifi works best either in the back of the restaurant or in the window seats up front. read more

Been in here a couple times when on vacation in the area with my wife. We always stop in for something to warm us up. I love my hot chocolate and have had several of them (offerings are greater in the winter) - the peanut butter one, the Golden-Eye (white hot chocolate), the S'More one, etc... My wife, the coffee drinker, goes for the more adult beverages, and hasn't had a disappointment either. Just a down-right neat place. Menu is pretty well-rounded. I was less than impressed with Roast and Toast. I went here over lunch on a recommendation and was definitely disappointed with the results. I ordered the Blackened Chicken Salad. The portion size was fine, but the lettuce was definitely not fresh and the chicken seemed like it was maybe steamed, but definitely not blackened. I've had a lot worse food in my day, which is why I'm giving 3 stars, but I doubt that I'll be back on future trips. read more

This clearly my favorite coffee shop since it opened. A great stop after a winter ski. Grab some homemade soup, a freshly made sandwich, and a hot coffee without taking out a second mortgage. Had breakfast this morning. Coffee was awesome, service prompt and efficient, prices are reasonable. No wonder this place is so popular. I had a ham, egg, and cheese muffin that was great. A Petoskey classic! Roast and toast has been around since before I can remember. Best lunch/coffee spot in Town without question.

I grew up in the area, and every time I come home to visit, Roast & Toast is at the top of my list. The soups, salads, and sandwiches are always good. The funky decor gives the place a much more relaxed vibe than many other restaurants in the area. Try the peppered turkey sandwich or a romaine salad and ALWAYS remember to get a bowl of soup on the side. read more

I love Roast and Toast! I make sure to stop in for my Chocolate Overdose with a shot of espresso every time I come to Petoskey. When I am in town for school it is the perfect place to get a warm cup of coffee and study in between classes. It is a very comforting, relaxing, non-judgemental atmosphere where you can take time out from your day and unwind. For those of you that are from out of town it may seem like another coffee shop to you but you might just not get it. Its a place where you can always find a friendly face. Its the perfect place to meet a friend and catch up and its a perfect place to sit alone and read a book or surf the internet. Love this place, I'm a true coffee snob. Most places simply burn the coffee and call it gourmet not here the coffee is brewed at the right temp so as not to burn the grounds and seperate the coffee oil from the rest of the Brew so you get the bitter oily top to your cup of joe. Excellent coffee, awesome baked goods, just okay food. If you're looking for a coffee and sweet treat, Roast and Toast is perfect. Their baristas do a good job with the coffee drinks, and the atmosphere is casual and fun. For meals, they're ok, but not my favorite. I find their soup flavors to be slightly odd, and are frequently very greasy. Their sandwiches are a little better, but nothing I would call special. Have a mocha and a nanaimo bar instead. read more

The first few times I visited they had great service and the food was great for a quick breakfast and coffee! This past time I went in I was VERY disappointed in the service. For coffee I typically get some sort of coffee with almond of coconut milk because i'm very allergic and intolerant with any sort of dairy product. I asked several times and made sure that I ordered my latte with almond milk and when I went to go get my coffee I even asked the girl behind the counter if the latte was made with almond milk because it looked like regular, I just needed to be sure. After taking a few sips I knew something was off and I even asked my friend to try it. Sure enough, it was regular milk. I've been sick for a little over a day now. Maybe take strong note of what the customer asks for next time... :( read more

I hate to be a negative Nancy, but I really should have heeded previous reviews on this place. I was passing through town for a work assignment. I'll admit, I am from downstate. However, I am not impressed with Petoskey on the whole--not a friendly town to visitors which is unfortunate for a town that survives on tourists. Now for my review of this place. I stopped because of previous positive reviews of their homemade soups and I desired something light for lunch. I was a bit put off by the "self-serve" soup, which was discovered by staff when I gave her a funny look after she tossed a bowl on the counter as I was ordering. I wonder how the health department lets them get away with customers helping themselves to the soup. Also, soup is intended to be served hot not lukewarm. Although it was tasty soup, I had a tough time really enjoying in its cold form. I'll take a pass next time, but thanks for the wifi. read more

The food here is always amazing. On our last visit, my husband got the lasagna and I got the roast beef and cheddar on sour dough. Both of our meals were delicious. However, I don't know what it is about this place but my eyes always burn when I am in there, especially during the busy times (perhaps the fumes from the grill?). Came in on Monday, July 14th after calling at 11:00am to see if we needed a breakfast reservation. We were told we did not, but that we could just come right in and experience a Panera Bread type setting. Got in at 11:15 and apparently breakfast had ended at 11. We were told we could still order breakfast, so we did and each person in line from my group had to explain that we had been approved to still order breakfast. We could hear the chefs in the back complaining with each additional order. The ladies at the register were rude and made it seem like taking our orders was a huge hassle. Food was okay but nothing special. House fries came out 1/2 cooked. The cook forgot sausage from my egg wrap but brought it out later on. Cute atmosphere and decent prices for decent food, but not great service. read more
