Great doctor, but his "patient support" is abysmal. Made multiple errors in scheduling my appointments, and follow-up calls were not returned by the office even though multiple messages were left. It's a shame because he himself is quite good and nice, but his "support team:" makes it not worth it. read more

Have been going to Dr. Moraru since October 2019 basically only for a prescription Finasteride renewal, which he was good at. Most recently I had a more complex issue (a rash under my eye). He proceeded to prescribe an ointment for INSIDE my eye which he pushed for me to buy from the office for ~$30. Turns out it was actually ~$5 from the pharmacy (his aide put in the prescription wrong). The ointment wasn't working after several days so I made the discovery via Google. What dermatologist makes a mistake like this!? So that obviously left a bad taste in my mouth. On top of that, my ask for him to take a look at a mole on top of my head led him to prescribe a separate ointment for pimples which I did not ask for. Not the best manner either, just wants to get out of there quickly. Would not recommend. read more

Dr. Moraru saved my life. That should say it all, but just in case it doesn't - about 15 years ago I went in for a routine check-up and very plainly put, Dr. Moraru saw something he didn't like and a week later I was having a malignant melanoma excised by his calm and gentle hand. Obviously, I couldn't recommend Dr. Moraru highly enough and, in fact, should have written this review years ago. Hopefully it's not too late for someone to see and realize they too should have a check-up and will consider him as well. It could be the best thing you ever do. It was for me. read more

I've been holding out on y'all in Yelpland. But I feel like we know each other a little better now, so I'm going to come clean. There's more to this review than what I previously stated. Let's set the scene, shall we? True story - I used to be really hideous (as opposed to just sort of hideous), so much so that I would play this game on the subway where I would compete in a "Who has the worst skin in this subway?" competition. Riding the subway at least twice per day (and often 4 to 6 times) for the better part of half a year, I won, hands down, every freakin' time. I was invincible. I was the Michael Phelps of bad skin, but seriously, nobody even came close, none of this win-it-by-a-fingertip business. Although I took pride in being extraordinary, I realized I was scaring off people (read: girls, my friends, small animals, children, employers etc.) with my Quasimodo mug, so I decided to take action. Enter Dr. Ferranti. Although they played it cool behind their swanky desks in this swanky office in this swanky building, I could tell the reception staff was impressed/horrified by my visage. I had show-stoppin' quality. I was truly remarkable. My aspirations were confirmed by Dr. Ferranti, who entered the room, saw my face, and simply exclaimed, "HOLY SHIT!" This is a man who sees screwed up skin ailments every day. To garner that sort of glorious reaction is no easy task, my friends. It is reserved for only the very special. I was so proud. His studious eyes lit up with excitement behind his spectacles and he opened a drawer to pull out a Polaroid camera. He took a picture of my left cheek, then my right cheek, and did so with the fervor that would accompany photographing the Loch Ness monster. Oh Nessie, you're old news - you ain't got nothin' on this freakshow! To others the behavior Dr. Ferranti displayed would've been offensive and inappropriate, but really, at this point, the enthusiasm the kind Doctor displayed was a nice reaction after what I had gotten used to. He didn't pull any punches, and I wasn't the sensitive type. I didn't need hand-holding or sympathetic "Oh you poor thing!" talk, I was here for a solution. And really? I found it kind of funny. No bullshit. It was twisted, but it was funny. He immediately recommended the strongest stuff he had: Accutane (or Amnesteem, the generic version that I used). He was very professional about outlining the side effects (birth defects, loss of appetite, potential depression etc.), and he let my 19 year old self take my time in making the decision without any pressure. He let me know about other options, but stuck by his guns while explaining the different stages of acne to me. Surprise! I had the BIGGEST BADDEST WOLF variety. After going through the literature he had provided me, on my follow up appointment we decided to go ahead with the treatment. With my monthly check ups, the nurses were all extremely nice when drawing my blood and all that. They did a great job. When I came in for appointments, the test results were always ready, and I was informed each and every month that I was not pregnant, which was such a huge relief. The receptionists were great as well. They were extremely friendly and encouraging. I almost felt like their pet project. Or maybe I was their favorite new reality show: Extreme Makeover: Face Edition. (Oh wait, that's just Extreme Makeover. My bad.) And now? My skin is alllllllright. It ain't perfect, as I don't get it all fancied up at the spas and smoooooooothed over. I do break out a little bit from time to time (I probably could've gone on a second cycle of Accutane if I pressed the issue; the appetite suppressant side effect ain't my thing though), but you know what? I'm not fussy and I don't need perfection; I just wanted to retire from playing that game on the subway. And I was able to. If I really wanted further treatment, I'm sure Dr. Ferranti or Dr. Moraru would've made me a new man. But I can stand a few eensy weensy blemishes from time to time. They're like old friends who keep me grounded. Anyways after this ordeal, I got recruited by (more like duped into "working" for) Abercrombie. They thought I was the affirmative action hotness. I typically do not review doctors but after my experience with Dr Moraru I must. I went to Dr Moraru because my dermatologist, Dr Kopp, was out on maternity leave and I thought he would be of the same incredible caliber as Dr Kopp. Unfortunately, I was incredibly uncomfortable with him and his horrendous manor and was very disappointed. I waited for 55 minutes in the waiting room to see him and the moment he walked into the exam room he was abrasive and argumentative. I understand that everyone has bad days but after 5 minutes I could not wait to get out. I refused treatment of any kind by him and after literally 10 minutes with him I left. I have voiced my concern to management, however, any potential patient needs to be aware of what they are walking into. read more

Wish I was a fan since this place is so close to my office but my experience here was really sub-par. Long waits and over-booking of popular time slots (particularly the FiDi lunch rush), doctors that like to quickly write prescriptions and send patients on their way in order to elicit a series of follow-up visits instead of solving problems upfront, pushing of name-brand drugs over generics due to pharmaceutical company marketers, etc. Won't bore the world with details but feel free to message me if you're interested in my particular experience. read more

Great doctor. Cured my skin problem in no time, and gave lots of free coupons and samples to those of us without golden purses. I will say that they do ask you to come back excessively. After one or two visits, don't ask for a third, I don't have the money to shell out for ANOTHER co-pay! They're fast, and if you know what problem you have, they can help you. I had been going to Dr. Moraru for a few years. I went to him because he was so close to my office. Unfortunately, he is not very friendly (although his staff is) and doesn't really seem to care. My last appt I had a procedure done. I told him that I bruise easily and to please take it slow. He ignored my wishes because he was in a hurry. Because he was in a hurry and careless my entire face was bruised which lasted for 3 weeks. The office doesn't feel very clean either. You would think that a dermatology office would take more care being super clean. Also, even though I was going to Dr. Moraru for several years he never seem to recognize me from one appt to the next. read more

Dr. Moraru's office is sloppy, not clean, and in extreme need of a long overdue renovation. The staff is friendly. Dr. Moraru is too and accepts my insurance, but he's too rushed and doesn't spend much time with you. He also overcharges for anything not covered by insurance. Clearly the money is not going into the upkeep of the office, a big turn off, as it is a refection of the doctor himself. AND BEWARE OF ANY WORK DONE WITH A LASER! read more

I came to Dr Moraru on a referral from my primary MD when my plaque psoriasis simply could not be brought under control. Dr M and his staff treated me with care and respect, exploring every option and, ultimately, connecting my psoriasis to my severe arthritis. He was ceaseless in advocating for my insurance to provide coverage on certain meds not on my formulary and was instrumental in connecting me to a great rheumatologist who confirmed his diagnosis and, at long last put me on a medication that has both my arthritis and my skin condition under control. I'm walking again and am no longer miserable because my skin is covered in lesions. I'm actually writing this from the doc's waiting room before my check-up and I'm thrilled because I am currently 100% clear. Love this doctor and his staff. read more

HORRIBLE! He is by far the worst doctor I've ever encountered. He didn't touch me, didn't listen to me, and undermined my feelings about what i felt about my skin. I told him my back was breaking out. He asked me to lift my shirt. When I tried, but couldn't get it up, he said "ah it's fine." Um... can you help me doctor? I'd really like you to see it. But NO! He prescribed medication that I repeatedly said didn't work for me and to top off, he got into a battle with an assistant about writing one less refill than he wanted. I'm guessing she should've read his mind. When he ran out, I advised her to quit. I really didn't want to sign up to yelp, but I found him on here, so I figure I'd do a civic duty today and prevent anyone else from experiencing this disappointment. read more

dr. moraru is an excellent individual and an incredibly personable doctor, educated at the prestigious columbia university. as a patient of dr. moraru i felt a level of personal connection (patient to doctor) that i had fruitlessly attempted to develop with previous doctors. his team and him are extremely compassionate and understanding. they successfully breakdown the medical procedure and jargon to simple terms that allow me to leave the doctor's office understanding my condition, treatment and battle plan. he dedicated an appropriate amount of time to me at every visit. they are open early on thursday's (8 a.m.) which is a must for me to avoid disruption with my job. they also have a wonderful waiting room with plenty to read, HGTV always-on, and a fifty gallon freshwater aquarium. he is a great, caring person. read more

Dr Moraru is not interested in listening to your concerns and he doesn't care about your health - he only cares about collecting his payments from your appointments. I have had 3 or 4 "appointments" with him so far and each of them has lasted under 2 mins. He does not have the patience to listen to any questions or concerns and just wants to be done with the appointment as soon as possible. Regarding not being concerned about health, he kept me on an antibiotic for 7 MONTHS for a minor acne issue, despite me telling him that I am not comfortable with that and that I am experiencing unpleasant side effects. But either he did not care to listen about my concerns because he just wanted to finish the appointments, or he absolutely did not care, or both, as long as he gets paid. I am so glad I switched doctors, and I am far more satisfied with my current dermatologist who actually takes a minute to look at my skin, understand my concerns, and then prescribes a medicine that's suitable for me. Run as far away from Dr. Moraru as possible because he is one of those nightmarish doctors that will prescribe medicines to profit from them. read more

Sub-par dermatology practice. Dr. Moraru and his PA are always rushed and do not take the time to explain things to you. Their rushed attitude also makes it difficult to ask questions. Also, they appear more interested in racking up charges than in actually making things easier for patients. They give you a hard time if you want test results over the phone, and the staff gives you grief when you ask to leave a message, saying "you need to call back on the doctor's schedule" when I called most recently during business hours. They also want patients to come in for a large number of follow up visits to generate additional fees. Also, don't bother trying to book an appointment for late in the day! The staff will call you and make you move it earlier so they can close early. Not professional. Convenient location if you work or live in the Financial District, but otherwise you could definitely do better. read more

Customer service was terrific, took a couple minutes on the phone but there was no wait or forms to fill out when I got there. Was seen by the Doctor immediately! I've been going to Dr. Moraru's office for a year now. I really like him. He's a good doctor. He's not too chatty but he listens to your concerns. He is meticulous and detail oriented which is what you need from a doctor. Yeah he doesn't spend a lot of time with you but neither do most dermatologists. Really, from all the one's I've been to, he's the best. Also, he doesn't try to sell you products or convinces you to do a microderm or anything. Everything he did or gave me was covered by my insurance except an acne scar fading cream which he recommended that I buy. His staff is really competent too. The best thing about his office though is that they are always on time. I have never waited more than 15 minutes. You'll be out of the office in less than an hour - perfect for a lunchtime visit. read more

I went to see Dr. Moraru for a mysterious rash. He came in to the room with the prescription for a topical steroid already written and dismissed me as having bed bugs. Even though I insisted this wasn't the cause, he told me, "I am 99% sure it is." Sure enough, it wasn't bed bugs. Instead, it was a contagious rash that should have been treated immediately. During the time I was using the pointless cream he had prescribed I gave this rash to at least two other people. He is no help at all. During my "examination" he didn't look at my skin at all. While he stood at least 6 feet away from me, I sat in front of him, fully clothed, without any skin exposed, and he told me my skin looked better, even though I came in telling him I was much, much worse. I had to literally diagnose myself and demand a prescription from him to be treated. Finally, three months later, I'm feeling better, no thanks to this doctor. On the other hand, the staff and nurses at his practice are great. read more

Firstly, they do not overbook, (read: They respect your time),and I've consistently been seen at my appointment time. I've seen Dr. Moraru twice and both times I left feeling half annoyed and half underwhelmed. First time it was an annual skin cancer examination. I waited a half hour in the waiting room and a full half hour (I timed it) in a paper robe, in a freezing waiting room. He finally showed up --with the wrong patient's paperwork. He found a mole he didn't like and proceeded to remove it. If I hadn't asked why it was bad, why it was being removed, etc etc, he wouldn't have explained at all. I had a follow up two weeks later. Again: 40 minutes in the waiting room. 15 minutes in a freezing examination room, until I was finally whisked away to a room with functioning heat. I saw a nurse (or assistant, IDK) that asked me all the same questions I had already answered at the previous appoinment and on zocdoc and then I saw Dr. Moraru for about 30 seconds, when he half explained the result of the biopsy (that might be exaggerating,it was really vague). He is actually nice and I hate to write a bad review, but 1) I wanna know what a doctor is doing and why, that's not too much to ask 2) I won't go back to a place that disrespects my time like that and doesn't even acknowledge it read more

Dr Moraru is a good doctor- he's very brief with his appointment and could be a better listener and address concerns a bit better, but if you have a straightforward issue, he'll be sure to fix it. I have waited for 45 minutes to be seen (I took a nap on the examination chair). The woman manning the phones however is enough to make me seek out a new dermatologist. Today I called concerning a series of prescriptions that were supposed to be home delivered. The drugs were more than I had ever paid for them, and I expressed concern with the price of one of the drugs, and wanted to know if there were a cheaper alternative. The lady assured me that she'd look into it and followup. A few weeks later and nothing. I call today to find out what's going on, and the lady on the phone today says 'The issue is that you complained about the drug price for x.' Her words. 'Complained.' I said, well yes one of the drug costs went up to more than I anticipated/wanted, and I was supposed to get followup on a generic version/cheaper version. She started talking over me, saying that other patients pay $35-$75 on their copay etc etc, so I would just take the price of $x. I said, well first of all that wasn't the original price, so maybe they found an alternative but didn't tell me and didn't put the order through. And secondly, it's just very crass to compare me to other patients. Just because one price works for some patients doesn't mean it'll work for others. Very unprofessional and very combative. Train your staff better. read more

My kids and I have been patients of Dr. Moraru for several years. The visits are quick and we're out of there within a 1/2 hour. I must defend him on two fronts. 1) The office might need to be renovated but it is very clean. Renting office space in a Class B building in the financial district ain't cheap. I'd rather he spend money on equipment and staff. I don't need his office to look like an interior design spread in Elle Decor. 2) Dermatologists are known for the quick look unless you have such a rare skin condition but most patients come in with same the eczema and other conditions that they have seen thousands of time before. Chit chat is fine but if I can get in and out quickly then it's all the better. Moraru is pleasant and he's focused on the task at hand. read more

I've just started going to Dr. Moraru after seeing how he cleared up my cousin's skin; she went to him after seeing how he cleared up her coworker's skin. I love that I'm never waiting long and he gets you in and out fairly quickly. He's friendly enough and answers all my questions. My skin has never looked better. I don't have insurance and I find his prices to be very reasonable. His office is always clean and I don't care much about the decor and would much rather him continue to charge me reasonable fees than have some swank office. I recently visited Dr Moraru regarding a bad flare up of adult acne. This was my first visit and will surely be my last. He spent about one minute with me, merely gave the affected area a cursory glance, didn't touch me, and hardly asked a question. Is that what passes for an examination these days? On top of that, he brought his two nurse/assistants into the room with him. I'm not sure what their purpose was other than to make me uncomfortable. Though, they had spent some time with me earlier to inquire about the reason for my visit. He was happy to write out a few brand name prescriptions, charge my insurance, and send me on my way. I was in such a state of shock at what went down, that it didn't even occur to me to voice any protest. I want to give 2 stars, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that patients with more serious issues actually leave feeling like they just saw a doctor. read more
