Mexican fast food is me and my family's preferred cuisine. Our go to spot is Yesenia's Carmel Mountain, which we've supported since 2010. Roberto's Taco Shop is a Mexican food restaurant chain started in 1964 and I believe I've dined at one of their shops when I was growing up in the South Bay, so eating here is nostalgic to me. I decided to visit this particular Roberto's because I read that a segment of society was trying to cancel this iconic chain due to its founder supporting our current President. I decided to support Roberto's for dinner last week where my wife and I got to grub on their delicious rolled tacos and I received friendly customer service from the young lady behind the counter. Roberto's Taco Shop has several locations around San Diego with the one I visited residing in Rancho Bernardo. The restaurant is located on Bernardo Center Drive specifically within the Big 5 and CVS shopping center. It's across from IHOP and a short walk to Sapphire Indian Cuisine restaurant. Roberto's is in between Big 5, Code Ninjas, and a few steps away from the UPS Store. This shopping center has plenty of free parking. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is covered outdoor seating and plenty of seating inside with high table top stool seating, low table top and chair seating, and wooden bench seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There really isn't much decor inside the restaurant with it's yellow painted walls, a single television, and a framed Welcome To Roberto's Taco Shop art piece.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The young lady behind the counter who took my order was friendly and had a positive attitude. My family's go to Mexican food spot is Yesenia's and I seriously have not found a San Diego Mexican fast food joint that has supplanted it. This was the first time in many years that I got to eat at Roberto's and I don't remember what I thought of their food way back when, so it felt like a first time experience. My wife craved fish tacos, so we ordered their #12 Two Fish Tacos combination plate, which comes with rice and beans. I ordered Carne Asada chips, which comes with cheese, guacamole, sour cream, salsa fresca, and queso. For our final item, I ordered their 3 rolled beef tacos with guacamole and cheese, but I added sour cream for an additional charge. My wife and I each had a fish taco, which were fresh, had plenty of toppings, and it was a good entree. I ate the Mexican rice and beans and thought both were cooked really well and were made to order. Their carne asada chips were covered with a lot of ingredients and had plenty of meat, but they were just okay. The star of our meal were their rolled tacos. The rolled tacos were packed with flavorful beef, they were hearty, they were fried perfectly, and they were covered with creamy sour cream, fresh guac, and had an ample amount of melted shredded cheese. We thought their rolled tacos were better than Yesenia's version. I took a star because they don't give complimentary tortilla chips and they don't have a serve yourself salsa bar. My wife and I have found a rival Mexican fast food restaurant that serves delicious and quality Mexican food. I don't think Roberto's Taco Shop can get cancelled if they continue to serve tasty rolled tacos that beats our favorite Mexican food spot. read more

While in North County, we had to stop at a true San Diego local legend. Roberto's is the OG of taco shops, and it's still delivering seriously good Mexican food. There aren't any locations near me anymore, so I was genuinely excited to see Roberto's still holding it down in North County. I ordered the chimichanga and it was amazing , crispy, flavorful, and absolutely worth every calorie. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the whole experience reminded me why Roberto's has been a favorite for so long. If you get the chance to eat at Roberto's, do it. This was the first time I ordered from Roberto's and based on what I received I will not be ordering again.....the fish tacos were not as described in the menu, the fish was so overcooked I had to check that it actually was fish......I requested extra Salsa (an extra charge of $1.25) and it was not included.... I was very disappointed. Also, instead of the rice & beans you should offer tortilla chips and salsa. read more

I came in and ordered the carne asada burrito. Sat down at an empty table to wait for my food. Since there was a mom with a kid, they changed the TV to a kid show on Netflix. Pretty cool. Burrito came out pretty quick, probably under 5 minutes. The first bite was terrible. Not because of gristle, but because it was so rubbery! Took a long time to chew, and the flavor didn't carry it at all. A couple bites in, I got the pico. So there was a little flavor to ease the otherwise unpleasant meal. About 2/3 through the burrito, I got one of three bites that had guacamole. It tasted freshly made, a nice addition to the rubbery asada. But it was gone too soon. I ate enough to not be starving, but I did not finish the $13+ burrito read more

This place always comes through with hot, fresh, and delicious food. I'm here pretty often and the food is on point. They also deliver on service. Ana always has a smile and connects with each customer. The boys in the back are cool too, saying what's up to everyone while they're cooking up something good! My favorite are the crunchy chicken tacos with sour cream and salsa fresca. They also always piping hot with cheese melting and shredded lettuce. I add the salsa and sour cream to cool it down just a little bit. The chicken is flavorful and the shell has an amazing crunch! Just come see for yourself.... it's awesome! read more

I'm a fan of Surf and Turf Burrito and trying one at Roberto's Taco Shop at RB is very satisfying. For $11 dollar afternoon snack, I'd give this a 4 star because it still needs some improvement like adding more creamy sauce (like more white sauce). But over-all, it's delicious and you could taste each of the ingredients: carve asada, shrimp, fries and cheese. read more

This the food I grew up on. It was perfect. Ordered the 5 rolled tacos and a carne asada burrito . It was just before lunch time at 11am and this place is open 24/7 so guess where I'm going when I crave that need for Mexican. It was fairly clean inside but had my order to go. Unfortunately, this is probably one of the worst Roberto's in San Diego. I've been to them all and I'm a Mexican food connoisseur, and this place just doesn't live up to the Roberto's standards. Number one, their Carne Asada is almost never fresh. It's always cold. It's horrible biting into a burrito with cold Carne Asada second, their service is pretty bad. Still haven't been physically inside the RB Roberto's but I did order a carne asada burrito from a food delivery app and let me just say the quality of the meat was disappointing. (Sorry I don't have a pic to post!) Chewy, bordering on tough and inedible, and flavorless. One thing. The star of the show was the red salsa. Roberto's (my opinion) has always had the absolute best salsas of all the taco shops. I'm going to try again and not sure what I'm ordering but I have an open, optimistic mind given my 40 years enjoying Roberto's Taco Shops all across San Diego County. I walked into Roberto's Taco Shop after I walked out of a different local restaurant, due to their poor service. I was immediately greeted and offered assistance. The lady that placed my order answered my questions and they promptly prepared my food.
