This is a very clean if that is possible, Mexican roadside joint serving up the usual burritos, tacos and quesadillas. They have a number of locations and have a big following among the surf community as there is nothing better than a juicy burrito after a session. There's no waivering between Roberto's and Juanita's. ROBERTO'S is definitely better overall. Don't get me wrong, I like Juanita's, but only for the Chimi. Roberto's is a favorite of mine since high school.....ummmm for what over 20 years now. There is one closer to my parents house in Del Mar, but I prefer this location better. I love the taquitos with guacamole, carne asada burrito and the quesadilla. The machaca burrito is delicious, but the amount of oil they pour over the fillings while cooking on the grill makes my heart stop. The food is a decent quality, but for the price, I expect much better, or even a larger portion. Roberto's takes huge advantage of their location, charging much more than local Taquerias I frequent, serving food not quite at the same level of quality, and with portions almost exactly half the size. The seating area is nice and clean and the help was a couple girls, probably under 18, who did their job well, both in taking orders and maintaining cleanliness. Overall? I suppose you have to bite the bullet when you're at the beach. Roberto's used to be the best Mexican Food in San Diego (specifically their Carne Asada Burritos,Taquitos,& guacamole). This specific location was one of the top... now it's slipped far into mediocrity. Carne Asada Burritos are just not what they used to be. They have become 'smokey' somehow, taquitos have gotten soggy, hot sauce has been changed. They used to be perfect!!...they were juicy and tortillas were like butter. Seems like they changed up their recipes and process, and took Pepsi off the menu....as well as getting a new Logo and slogan "very Mexican food" (?) For me this is when things started to decline. So so sad. Please return to your former glory! for now I go elsewhere for my fix. read more

I wouldn't even really give them 1star. I'm really annoyed w the service here. I waited 30 minutes for ONE breakfast burrito and ONE Chorizo burrito. As at least 6 people came after me, ordered, got their good and LEFT. 20 minutes and after 4 customers got their food before me I went back up to the window to remind her about my order. Her excuse was "chorizo burritos take longer to make". I still waited another 10 minutes before I got my burrito and two more customers. Not an apology or any compensation worth the time. Great location. So of course it's a tad more expensive. The breakfast burrito is great. $3.99. It comes with eggs, cheese ans salsa fresca. It's a pretty decent size. Although they could pack more eggs and cheese inside. The tortillas is really good and fresh, They have red or green salsa. Both are good. The service is super-friendly and quick. Roberto's is my favorite spot for cheap, convenient, and delicious Mexican food. I always order the rolled tacos with no lettuce & extra guacamole pictured - yum! In terms of burritos, the chorizo, carne asada, and California burritos are my personal favorites. The meat is always fresh and well-cooked, and they are very accommodating if you want to customize your orders a bit. Very average Mexican place. Little overpriced, good but not great. Limited seating and so so service. Enchilada sauce was good. You usually get more for the price. Free coffee in the mornings is a bonus, but doesn't make up for the mediocrity. They got our order wrong but fixed it when we showed the receipt. The tortillas are a bit salty, but the taste and simplicity are enough to keep you coming back! My boyfriend had #12, chile relleno, enchilada & a taco (wow!), and devoured the entire thing, followed up with a beef machaca burrito to go for a midnight snack. Roberto's is my jam when I come to this part of town. Denver just doesn't know how to do this style of Mexican food, so I gotta get my fill when I can. Rolled tacos are my thing. 5 or 6 bucks for 5 of them, filled with tasty beef, fried to a non-greasy perfection, smothered with guac and sour cream. My girlfriend and I came here after a date at the beach this past Tuesday. We both got burritos and it was so freakin good!!! I ordered a California burrito and my gf ordered a bean and cheese burrito. Both were delicious (mine CA burrito was better though) and both were a big decent size. Also it was $1 off Tuesday so they take a dollar off from your total. I thought $5 something for my burrito was cheap. I have not tried any of their other food items so I would not be able to say if anything else is good or not. There's times I've ordered a shrimp burrito and been in food coma heaven and other times that I decided to just throw it out due to it bring in edible! I have wavered in the past between Roberto's and Juanita's as the best taco stand around. In many ways, they are very similar. What it really comes down to is the salsa and over the last few years, I have come to believe that the salsa at Roberto's is superior. So, my nod to the best tacos is for Robertos, when it's open. I paid with my debit card and noticed while the receipt said I was charged a certain amount, the amount taken from my bank account was 3$ more. While some may see this as a minor mistake, I am a working college student and every dollar counts. I was never presented with a tip options so I assumed they may have added a tip without telling me. The only thing on my receipt was the food and tax. I brought this up with the cashier and he brushed it off as just a bank problem or taxed (when the tax was clearly on the receipt) and when i asked to speak to a manager he just said "they are out of town for a while" I was not helped in any way and just seen as an inconvenience when I was clearly taken 3$ without any reason. I asked for a number of someone to call and he just turned around and said something to the cook then proceeded to tell me there is no number to call. I will be calling the restaurant multiple times in the following week when said "manager" is back. I would have appreciated if he had just tried to help me in some way but the lack of concern or help and excuses has led me to leaving a bad review. I won't be coming back until i get an answer. Also it is 100% not a bank issue cause I checked other charges which were all equal to how much was on receipts. read more
