I have been coming here since the 1980s when I was in high school. This has been my "go to" fast food for decades. This has been the place my friends who moved away stop at when they come back to town to get their Mexican food fix! Unfortunately the recent change in management has resulted in a menu change (no more lite burrito) and food sloppily thrown together and downgraded quality. The staff doesn't seem to care anymore. Can't go wrong with a California Burrito from Roberto's! Every location I have been to has had great food and great service. It can get quite busy during your normal feeding times, so its a good idea to call ahead and get your order in for pick up. read more

Robertos is okay, nothing spectacular but if you're hungry it does the job. There are better options in the area with better food My food has always come out warm, I haven't had issues with illness or cold food like the other users, but I agree that there are issues with consistency. read more

I never leave reviews... but I am so disappointed and even sad that I had to. I have been coming here for over 20 years. A staple in the area. New management just took over and is running the place into the ground. Absolutely rude people serving, with the most terrible, frankly embarrassing attitudes. On top of that, we showed up to find out there were no beans. In the whole restaurant. At a Mexican restaurant. The man laughed at us when we were surprised and asked questions. This is truly upsetting and I cant believe I'm saying this but I'll be going back to Juanita's from now on. Shame on the people who ruined such an amazing San Diego staple. read more

Fresh, solid, mexican missing some flair for me, but this is authentic. I prefer more upsacle mexican with more herbs and flavor, but was clean and fresh and super busy, which says a lot. Stopped by yesterday for the first time ever and we were delighted by our food and fast, efficient service. I had a Quesadilla which was tasty but the wife had a Tostada. Crispy tortilla and excellent frijoles, REALLY excellent frijoles. Need I say more? We will be returning. read more

We walked past the shop and it smelled delicious, so we had to order some food. It completely exceeded our expectations-it was fantastic! We ordered fish tacos and chicken tacos and both were exceptional. The chicken tacos were some of the best chicken tacos I've ever had. The amount of taco places in San Diego, even on the 101 is amazing. Roberto's is located in the north part of Solana Beach right before Cardiff. They have a walk up window and outdoor patio. Had the California burrito and my girlfriend had some Carne Asada fries which we both shared. Food was mediocre at best. The beans that came with the fries were cold and to the side. The fries were weird, the salsa was awful and the California burrito was nothing special. Asked for it to be spicy and it wasn't spicy at all. Overall a pretty lame experience at an "Americanized" Mexican chain restaurant. Avoid if you enjoy authentic Mexican cuisine. read more

Solana Beach Roberto's takes the cake. I don't know why there is such a huge variation between locations, but other places don't seem to want to season their meat or give you any sour cream. This location knows how to make a burrito! read more

The Carne Asasa buritto is great here. Roberto's can be quite popular at times, so one of the best things you can do is call ahead and place your order before leaving your house so that it's ready before you arrive. Decently priced, quick and always a good place to eat. read more

Excellent cheap eats with a great view - I like to drive down the block and eat at the beach. unfortunately they have no public restrooms.

This place is the boss of all mexican places. I can sincerely say that as a non mexican, their food is fantastic. I have eaten at over 50 establishments of the Mexican variety and this place, more specifically the Roberto's​ brand takes the cake with their California Burrito. 100% authentic Californian I can attest to that. Roberto's is open 24 hrs, they have great Chicano grub available at all hours. Cheap prices, if you are having a chubby moment and calories are not being counted then by al means order the Carne Asada Fries a concoction of (Steak Fries, Carne Asada, Cheddar Cheese, Guacamole and sour cream) A total fat grenade but so yummy. I am born and raised in San Diego and I live down the street from this Roberto's. Over the years the quality has gone way down, the portion size has gotten much smaller and prices have gone up. Don't go here unless you have no other option. And definitely don't order a small side of guacamole...you can fit it on one chip...seriously. This place only has stars because it is the only Mexican place around, ordered California burrito which has no guac, was empty more tortilla the contents inside, carne asada tastes like its powdered and dipped in pure pepper then cooked. I've lived in San Diego county my whole life, from SD to Oceanside, and this Mexican food is THE WORST by far!!! To start with, two Cali burrito's was almost $15. They were tiny, meat was way salty, and salsa was like water!, (which they only gave two lil cups of). I also asked if they could sub guac for sour cream and they wanted to charge me full price for another side, talk about being cheap!!! LOL. I used to like this place. Then they raised their prices and reduced their portions. What really bothers me, though, is that the last two times I came here it took 15 minutes + to get my burrito.
