This review is long overdue. 8 years ago, I walked in and asked for a cartilage piercing to complement my other earlobe piercings. It was to be my first cartilage piercing, and I was a little apprehensive, I felt a little out of place, but the staff immediately made me feel welcomed, kindly listened to my ideas, looked at my ear and made recommendations. My ear is tiny, and the piercer (regretfully I don't remember his name) looked a bit surprised when I asked if he could fit a daith, but he did it! It's an 18g and the process was quick and painless. Before I could say 'will this hurt?,' my ear was pierced and he was fitting the jewelry. I received professional instructions on the aftercare, and felt well-educated when I went home to care for my ear and the jewelry. The daith was so well placed that I could hide it when I needed to for professional reasons. It's stayed in place and hasn't migrated much, even with moderate stethoscope use. I live in Hawaii now and there is maybe only one other piercing shop on Oahu that might be comparable to the expertise and professionalism that I experienced on my one and only visit to this shop. If given the opportunity, I would definitely to go back and get another piercing from here. read more

This place excels at customer service. I've been coming here for years for all of my piercing/jewelry needs, and I always have a great experience due to the extremely helpful, gentle and courteous staff. The last time I was in, they didn't have exactly the type of nose stud I wanted... The young lady who was working suggested I go to another store (Adorn) who was likely to carry it. I went here today and got my nose piercing stretched/re pierced. I was told it was a ten minute wait , me and my boyfriend sat there for 40-45 minutes before the lady saw me. Which is sorta ok because it was a walk in however it was truly disappointing.It was really quick and some what easy but I was honestly really scared and could have taken some time to at least get her name before she put her finger in my nose. I didn't know what she was doing I just knew that they may use a needle based on what the person estimated she'd do up front. (My piercing had been out for 3 days) It seems like it was just a bad / busy day for everyone but I'd definitely hesitate coming back. read more

I wasn't impressed by the looks of the shop it didn't look very clean, I decided to get my triple helix here any ways and I don't regret it. I got my second hole ear piercings done this weekend by Jo, and it was a wonderful experience all around. Jo was super respectful and professional, and did an awesome job to talk about consent and bodily autonomy even when getting something simple like a piercing. I was in there today and received such poor service from a new tattoo artist. He was going to charge me an insane amount and was arguing with me telling me how I wanted my tattoo. I pay artists to collaborate with me and he was doing the opposite. He was very pushy, wouldn't negotiate with me and was unaccommodating. In a city where there are so many wonderful tattoo artists, no one should be treated with such poor service. The quality of his work was okay, but he didn't listen to me and my requests weren't unreasonable. He wouldn't negotiate placement or coloring which is unacceptable. He was also hitting on me, which made me feel very uncomfortable. Artists like this don't deserve my business or yours either. However, this experience doesn't reflect on the entire operation. Everyone else I have dealt with here has been so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Make sure you are working with anyone but this dude(Zach), and everything should be okay. read more

I got a terrible tattoo at Robot! Having gotten several tattoos before I know whats bad and this was very bad. I wanted to get a tattoo of Japanese characters. My artist was Dave and he told me that he had lived in Japan for a little while so I wasn't worried about the tattoo. I'm Japanese and I also brought my friend from Japan to write out what I wanted. So all he had to do was copy the writing. It turned out really bad! The lines were of different thicknesses and on some parts he went way TOO deep so it scarred!!! I was so ashamed to have this tattoo I wore a watch over it for months until I could get it covered at another shop. read more

Yesterday I went to Robot for a septum piercing. I've had good luck in past with other piercers but heard this was the place to go and so I checked it out. I got my nose pierced here back in December and it has healed pleasantly! Just follow the directions they give you for aftercare and you should be good! I go back in whenever I'm in the mood for new jewelry and they can put it in for you free of charge. I always tip them though, as that's the nice thing to do. I have many piercings and am diligent about home care and have never had an infection until I went here. I got my nose pierced and after weeks and weeks of infection I tried calling the store multiple times and went in to have them look at it and the only advice I ever got was to soak it in salt water more which I was already doing. Went to a different piercing place and they immediately told me I had a metal allergy because I was pierced with cheap metal. The other piercing placed switched out my jewelry and was perfect right after. I walked in today to get a consult and was completely blown off by the blond chick. She was the only tattoo artist at the shop and she wouldn't give me the time of day, she told me to come back on Saturday at 2, then changed her mind to Sunday at 730...when I asked if another artist was at the shop she said I'm the only one here and I want to leave in an hour, so I don't have time for you. After having horrible service dealing with another shop on numerous occasions, I deiced to try out Robot. I needed to buy a new basic seamless nose ring & have it put in for me. The entire staff was very friendly & helpful. The piercer (I can't remember his name) was very polite, chatty & made me feel very comfortable. I was very impressed with the vast amount of jewelry that they carried that I even bought a pair of plugs as well, which was shocking since I have very picky tastes. I got my septum pierced about four months ago in new york, and my goal for coming back to Portland during winter break was to buy some new septum jewelry (no tax woo!). I first went to Adorn in SE- the woman was rude, treated me as if I had no idea what she was talking about, and the piercer wasn't even there so I couldn't get someone to switch out my jewelry. I then went to Robot, and instantly knew this was the place to be. Adorn was empty, messy, and dark- Robot was full of staff members, customers, and it was very bright and clean inside. All of their jewelry was out for customers to see, unlike Adorn where most of it was "in the back and I wasn't allowed to look at it". The woman helping me was really friendly and answered all of my questions, and when I chose one another very friendly woman switched it out for me- easy as pie. They also take cards (Adorn is cash only), which is very convenient. Overall it was a super easy process, their selection of jewelry is fantastic and the staff was very welcoming. read more

I've never actually taken the time to write a yelp review but this place deserves some love. I went in to get my nipples pierced and all of the staff were friendly and laid back, and you could tell they knew what they were doing. The front desk lady was adorable and kind as well as informative and honestly made me feel like i was just hanging out with a friend. The piercer (Anna) did a clean, quick and wonderful job. When it was all done i felt just a tad light headed which i usually get with piercings, and instead of rushing me on my way, they gave me a free juice box and she sat on the floor with me explaining the cleaning process while also making sure i was OK, which i totally was. After researching local piercing shops for about 3 weeks I found this place to be the most reasonably priced and professional in the Portland area. The people weren't snobby which you sometimes get in tattoo shops like if you don't have a sleeve or something you are just a poser, no, these people are welcoming and funny. The lip piercing took a total of about 2 seconds after ensuring it was in the spot I wanted and at the gauge that was both functional and fashionable for me. I went into Robot years ago to get some advice on a piercing gone wrong by another shop. They were very kind and professional and really seemed to know what they were talking about. Today I went in to get my nose re-pierced with a ring instead of a stud and my ears stretched to 8s since they were only 12s before. Emerald is a bonafide badass, I absolutely loved talking with her and she really knew what she was doing. She also removed a lip ring that my dentist said is wearing down my gums. I also wanted to talk to someone about a couple tattoos I want, so Shauna took the time to listen to my ideas and I can't wait to see the drawings! I'm very excited to go back. Came in to get an industrial bar piercing on my ear since I had heard such great things about this place. When I politely asked a guy working there about it, he gruffly yanked my head toward him to have a better look at the ear I wanted to pierce. Asking for some kind of consent (i.e. "Do you mind if I take a closer look at your ear?") or even a notification ("I'm going to look at your ear now") would have been much better, since that interaction came across as a shock and a bit careless. He proceeded to tell me that I have "a weirdly shaped ear" and that "there was no way I could get an industrial". The "weirdly shaped" part was a poor choice of words, but fine -- maybe it is. I then asked for alternative piercings, and he mentioned one I hadn't heard of. When I politely asked him what that alternative looks like, he practically rolled his eyes and told me to Google it. Obviously I can Google it, but if I came to your piercing studio and am kindly asking you to talk about a piercing, you think it wouldn't be so difficult to do so for a minute. Went to another studio and got my industrial piercing without a problem -- they said my ear was fine, and the piercing has healed well since. Disappointed that Robot couldn't show the same kind of service. read more

I love this place. I've been going to see Jo there on and off over the years to get my plugs but I recently got tattooed there by Jason. It was a nice experience. I've been in quite a few shops, worked in a couple, and the music is always so terrible and loud and overwhelming. Not here, the music is generally pretty soothing and it's a welcoming environment. Jason was very friendly and I enjoyed geeking out with him over movies and scifi while he worked out my wedding band. This is the first place in Portland I've been tattooed since I've lived here and I'll go back. I think they are now my favorite tattoo shop and the employees are a lot of fun to be around. read more

So I came here because it's closer to my house than adorn but it was a mistake. I came here to get my nostril done. Yes this place is clean and nicely decorated and price wise is average, but the people that work here are very misleading. Not to mention, you're basically a number. The whole time I felt like they just wanted to get my piercing done and get me out of there. If you come here to get your nostril done, do not select the hoop as a starter jewelry. I have tattoos, have had many piercings but had no clue that I would get a giant irritation bump from the CBR they let me select. Why they would even let someone choose this as starter jewelry is beyond me.. maybe so they can make more cash? I don't know. I didn't know this would happen, and they should have made me aware when I picked it. But after 2 weeks my nose developed one, it however looks hideous and does not make me want to come back to get a stud from here. And this is a common issue, that you would think as professionals they would know.. and then not let customers pick that type of jewelry. When I called I was told to continue SSS and if worse comes to worse, they would replace the jewelry but I had to pay for it.. to me, it doesn't sound morally right to first, let the customer choose incorrect jewelry and then turn around and have them pay for something that should have at least been mentioned. If I was told on the spot that irritation bumps are common with CBR 's when I pointed at it, I would have picked a stud instead. They also said the CBR they put in my nose is titanium but a part of me doesn't believe that. I am going to adorn today, where I know my experience will be positive, and will be surprised if the bump persists. Don't go here unless you REALLY know your shit, and are ok with a fast food experience, in and out. Regretfully, I am left with this giant bump on my nose, full of pus and only regret for giving the piercer a big ol' tip. Bleh. Will not return here, such a shame. read more
