Ok to go if you're already here. I went here only because my friends and I were starving and we didn't feel like paying $30 for the buffet at Fresh Harvest. You can sit at the sushi bar or the bar in the center (shaped like a triangle) that can seat quite a few people. The atmosphere is modern and upscale but you can smell the smoke from downstairs. (A minus if you're not a smoker such as me). The service was not good; we felt rushed the whole time and then when we asked for the bill two times, it took 20 minutes to get it?! We all ordered different noodle bowls for $12 each and everyone enjoyed theirs. I would recommend the Chow Fun, it had tasty pieces of grilled steak and wide, rice noodles smothered in a delicious brown sauce. So this place is on the 2nd floor of the Hard Rock Casino, and it does have a "restaurant plopped down in the middle of the lobby" feel to it. HOWEVER... the decor is pretty good. Having been to Vegas a million times (and eaten in restaurants that seem like they're plopped down in the middle of a casino... "Dragon Noodle" in the Monte Carlo, anyone?), I'm not going to hold the location against it. So on to the food... The food was really good. Not superb, not "over the top" good, just good. And the portions were very generous. Ginger-glazed Grouper and Chicken Chow Fun were the selections, and both were quite satisfying. Now to the complaints... The beer selection sucks. I mean, how about SOMETHING besides the standard Bud swill? Ok, so I'll go with sake instead... nope. Only two kinds of sake... hot and cold. And while the Gekkeikan (sp?) traditional stuff is basic, the place had the vibe where you'd THINK they'd have a decent sake chilled. How about a nice unfiltered nigori? Nope.... chilled Gekkeikan basic for $5. Meh. All in all, it's good. The beverages need to be better, but the food stands on its own. read more

We went here to check out the food. We didn't see this spot yelped yet so we went in blind. It is obviously located in the Hard Rock Casino so you have to walk through the place to find it. It is in a large space with no tables, just a sushi bar and a large fountain with seating around it. I'm guessing these guys running it are chinese. The food leans toward more chinese stuff so it is really NOT a sushi place but a chinese place with sushi. The rolls here tend to have ingredients that I find objectionable in a roll such as cream cheese and mayo. Also they use asperagus a lot if you want your pee to stink for 24 hours. We had nigiri and sashimi but it was a weak average for quality and the pieces were small. Presentation was poor and the wasabi and ginger looked like it was sitting out all day. The kitchen food was better. I ordered the baby octapus and asked the server if it was nigiri and how many pieces it comes with. She had to check with the kitchen. It turned out to be a plate with a few dozen octapi marinated and cooked. Not as good as the sushi version I've had elsewhere but a good value for $7.00. The soups were large and tasty with just the right amount of solids in them. The soup came with a plate piled high with tempura, the shrimp tempura was very good. I had a plate of a dozen oysters which were quite fresh and briny tasting. While we were here a guy came with a plate of food from the nearby all-you-can-eat buffet and sat down. I was not at all pleased with this place. It is basically an extension of the entrance of the buffet restaurant next door and it is about the size of a slot machine. The draw of this place is its convenience for people who are already at the hotel or the casino. There is no other reason to be here. The food is awful and pricey. It is a casino after all. The sushi quality was most excellent, although the menu choices were way too limited. The hot dishes were bland and disappointing. The Malysian chicken curry for example was overcooked and had no spices or heat factor. The so called soft boiled egg was anything but...see picture. If you simply must have sushi while gambling, give it a shot. Otherwise save your money. Oh yeah, there's no wine list either although they do have two basic sake choices. read more

We ate at Rock N' Raw a few times. The Sushi we had this past week was absolutely delicious! We shared the Ebi Maki, Double Spicy Tuna, The King & I, and the Rising Sun Rolls. It was very difficult out of those four to actually pick a favorite! This place is a must try. We will definitely be back! read more

Dined here last night in order to use up some comp dollars. Been to Council Oak & Grey Salt a ton of times so wanted to try something different. I was hesitant since only 3/5 stars... and of course, I was very disappointed with the food. The quality of the sashimi was subpar & I didn't enjoy the salt and pepper shrimp either. I did appreciate that they allowed me to create my own roll, however, it did not have the correct ingredients that I requested. I would give 4 stars for the service and speed that the food was served, but the quality of the food brings me down to 2 stars. If you're in the casino, stick with Council Oak or Grey Salt... you won't be disappointed with either of the 2. Needless to say, I won't return to Rock n Raw. read more

I love it!!! The place is really small, and when I say small, I mean 1 bar and seats 12. The staff was very friendly and the food is great, original presentation and ingredients. The type of restaurant has nothing to do with those franchises where the food ir prepared a few hours before and stored until diner/lunch time. Everything was prepered on demand in front of you. I recommend it especially when your grabbing a bite in a casino!! Awesome! read more

A long wait time, but that was expected (about 20 minutes on a busy Sat. eve.) and unfortunately it is amidst the Smokey area of the casino. The service was a little slow but precise. The food was not bad, just a little bland. We started with the spring rolls, which were falling apart and a little burnt. They were mushy inside, so I'm sure they were of the frozen variety. I had the Korean beef and my partner had the salt and pepper shrimp. The beef was meh, but better than no food at all. The salt and pepper shrimp was very hot and crispy--so that got some big points from me. My partner claims it was bland and could have used more salt and pepper, but I thought it was quite good. We had a Sapporo and a Riesling with our dinners and the Riesling came in a beer glass because they were out of wine glasses. Overall, not a super stressful experience, but the food was just OK, and honestly it was the reason we came to the casino in the first place. I wouldn't go out of my way again. read more

Those who know me know that I am not really a very picky eater, just one who appreciates all kinds of tastes; I think they would be very surprised with how the trip to Rock N' Raw sushi went. Honestly I used Trip Advisor to find the place, because i was new to Tampa, and thought it would be a good thing to look up while I was looking for a hotel; little did I know the restaurant was actually inside of the Hard Rock Hotel/Casino/Time machine. The confusing directions to the restaurant were not made any better by the atmosphere of mid-80's/David Bowie-esque decorations, or the overly abundant smoke which was unavoidable (I know, it's a Casino, last time I swear). I sat at the sushi bar after being looked at by the wait staff like a freak for 5 seconds before they asked what I wanted...I just turned around and sat at the bar. They may have been mute, which if that's the case, I'd feel better. The glass case commonly present at sushi bars was filled with a great array of fresh fish, and an oddly posed Octopus, but meh, works for me. I ordered a large hot saki ($7) and an order of the Devil's Edamame (or something like that) before looking at the sushi menu itself, and noticed that the underserved portion was over salted, and looked like it had been cooked a bit too long. I also noticed that while the fish in the case was fresh, it mainly consisted of salmon, tuna, octopus, yellow tail, and that was about it; that reflected in the choices for sushi and sashimi. Oddly enough, a majority of the rolls you could order were either fried, covered in mayo, or both. I will say that the double spiced tuna roll was pretty good, and rising sun roll wasn't too bad either, but I'm a sucker for rolls with jalapeño on them. The wait staff wasn't bad, but only came by when they noticed a plate was missing, and the person sitting next to me and I also noticed the tone in the voice every time I ordered a sake...demeaning? Regardless, between the pain of parking at a large Casino and the poor quality of food options at a sushi bar right on the Gulf of Mexico, is not what I would call ideal. I've had better sushi in Jacksonville North Carolina, and if you've ever been there, that's saying a lot. Gonna try another option tonight to compare it to, but if you do go, get drunk gambling so you don't taste the food. read more

Alright let's begin with the ice tea... It taste like socks never order it had to order a sprite instead. Now the general tso chicken , a. It's not chicken b. the batter taste like it was fried like a zeppoli. No bueno. Spider crab roll horrible. Way to much rice and seaweed. The double tuna roll or w.e its called wasn't that bad. So, sushi at the casino, eh? Could be an adventure! Actually, it was quite good! I can't claim to be a sushi connoisseur, but I loved what I ate here! Got a good tuna/salmon roll (Beautiful Girl) and some nigri sushi pieces. All of it was delish! My only complaint was the octopus wasn't quite thawed from the cooler but it was still good, not chewy like it can be. And the prices are reasonable considering where we are. Service was great! And the Ching Tao is COLD! Will definitely be back... Now if I can just find someplace to watch Monday Night Football... read more
