Fantastic Dining Experience - Flavor Explosions (July 2018) We discovered this gem thanks to Yelp. Suggestions and reviews we read said to call ahead for a reservation. We did so and that proved to be helpful. Because we were traveling, we didn't really have fancy clothing to wear with us. We had jeans and nice shirts, we were ok to eat there. So, if you're traveling through, don't be intimidated by the fine dining mentionings in the reviews. The staff there is friendly and we didn't feel uncomfortable at all. Driving to the restaurant, we went down Main street in Georgetown. It was beautiful. Lots of old houses and fantastic architecture to look at. Our server was fantastic, very descriptive and helped us understand the menu. We got the artichoke dip appetizer. It was wonderful. We got the salad special that had seeds and nuts of all kinds, roasted beets, roasted carrots, roasted Brussels sprouts and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Again, wonderful. The bread our server brought to the table was crusty and warm that came with wonderful oil and balsamic vinegar complete with cheeses and fresh seasonings. I ordered the shrimp and sea scallops dinner with asparagus and grits. It was fantastic. My husband got the special, the Alaskan halibut with sweet potato slaw, grits, and this amazing corn salsa stuff. He loved it. Seriously wanted to lick the plate it was so good. Everything we had was a flavor explosion. Even though we were full, we decided to go for dessert. I got the Carrot Cake with the house made bourbon glaze and roasted pecans. My husband got the peanut butter pie. Both were to die for, pure heaven in each bite. We had plans for the next day, but seriously wanted to follow the chef around for the day, along with a notebook and a pen to write down his secrets. Cute atmosphere, very limited parking, they had the table set with a handwritten card for the birthday girl which was very sweet! Dinner was good! Appetizers included the calamari which was good, and the artichoke dip which was very heavy on capers but otherwise ok. The steak has a phenomenal crust and char to it, cut very easily and was delicious. The broccoli was cold and a bit undercooked, but it's broccoli. The mushrooms were delicious. Everyone else also enjoyed their meals. We ordered nearly one of each dessert and here's my honest recap. The créme brûlée was very light and delicious, would order again. The key lime coconut pie was light on the lime flavor but overall also very enjoyable and would order again. The 7 layer white chocolate raspberry cake was a bit dry and felt as if it had been frozen and quickly thawed, would probably pass on getting that again. The flourless torte had a great flavor but was very dense, more of a truffle consistency, so very rich. Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend giving it a go if you have a special occasion. read more

"How is this jewel located in Georgetown, KY?" I found myself asking this question over and over. Yet, one of the finest restaurants in this area of the country is located in an unassuming, beautiful, old house in downtown Georgetown. Through a series of events, found Rodney's on Broadway. Once we found the house which hosts the restaurant, we wondered if we made a mistake, but then we entered. The old house is a beautifully decorated restaurant, with some fun artwork. (Which is for sale, and we even bought a piece before leaving. It turns out the artist was Chef Rodney's wife.) The tables are well spaced so you can have a private conversation, which feels intimate, although you can still engage the people at the next table if you wish. I'm usually not that guy, but I had to ask the neighboring table what was their decadent, mouth-watering dessert (it was a raspberry cake with a cream cheese-based icing). In short, the ambiance and setting are ideal. The staff at Rodney's is attentive, friendly, and engaging, but not intrusive. In short, they are at the table whenever you want them, but nowhere to be seen otherwise. As for the food, the first thing you will notice is the presentation. The plating is great, but it's the taste and flavoring I care about . I ordered the lobster bisque with a small filet and the mashed potatoes. Two words - home run! The bisque was the best I have ever tasted, and the steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Side note - Rodney also sells his steak seasoning. The mashed potatoes included marbleized russet and sweet potatoes, and pairing these mashed potatoes with the steak was one of the best things my mouth has ever experienced; especially with the perfectly aged Chateauneuf. Speaking of which, they have a great collection of craft cocktails and a nice wine list. Being new to town I came across mention of Rodney's in someone's blog and their reviews seemed to be pretty darn good, so I made reservations for their New Years Eve pre fix menu. Major let down and NOT worth the $75 per person cost. Now the building itself was really neat, historic building and we were seated upstairs next to the window with a couple other tables in this room. Our server Stacy was excellent! She hustled all night running heavy trays of food and drink up the stairs. This review is all about their food and lack of presentation, flavor and temperature. For our starter my husband and I both picked the 'lobster bisque.' This was served in a pale ramekin matching the color of the bisque itself. The bisque was good, extremely creamy but only a hint of the lobster. Would love to have chucks of lobster or some other texture to the soup. Now for the entree, the star of the meal, and where the course took a deep plunge into the abyss. 8oz Prime Beef Filet served with green beans, scalloped potatoes and a carrot. I couldn't even finish this dish, it was so unappetizing. The filet was cooked to temp but you can see that it was reheated at time of order, the meat had absolutely no juice to it. The entire plate was dry, it was difficult to enjoy. For one, I wish a new steak was used and not a reheated one that lost all its yummy juices. Two, if your going to use a reheated dry steak, at least serve it with some sort of sauce to accompany it. The entire plate was served luke warm and cold to the touch with in a minute. I ate less than half of the steak and grabbed a box so I could give the rest to my dogs. Dessert was the berry cobbler, served on a plate. This also came out luke warm. This dish should have been served in the ramekin that the soup was in, that way it could have held on to temp and made for a nice warm dessert. Maybe even topping it with vanilla ice cream that could have melted into the berrys, that would have been delicious! All the food came out insanely quick, and the courses were served nearly on top of one another. We were in and out of their within in less than an hour. We took our to-go box of our disappointing entree to a wine bar in Lexington and showed the server, she said it looks like something she got at Applebee's once. I know an excuse can be made saying, 'they were busy, it was New Years Eve.' No, we were only the 2nd table to be sat upstairs and people slowly trickled in after. We were going to give Rodney's another shot but after thinking on it we decided not to. I feel if a chef can't handle a limited 3 course set menu, how can they handle a full menu on a regular night. read more

My husband & I thoroughly enjoyed our meal last night. We travel quite a bit & enjoy eating at fine restaurants. We have to say that Rodney's is at the top of our list for great food! We had a special beet salad that was delicious, shrimp & scallops and a filet. The seafood was delicately prepared & the steak was melt in your mouth quality! An interesting twist to the meal was the panko encrusted baked potato. We topped the meal off with a bourbon bundt cake. Rodney's is located in a refurbished 1840's house, and was fun to explore. If you're looking for an awesome meal, do not skip this place. There are items on the menu that are pricey, but the 8 oz burger and fries were only $13. Our waiter was very friendly and informative. He explained the featured items of the day and a bit about the history of the restaurant and it's chef/owner. Actually, everyone in the restaurant was friendly, my husband took a tour around the restaurant which was once a historical home but now is modern, with a classy touch. My food....I had $8 calamari appetizer, which was the best that I have ever had. The marinara sauce was excellent too. I added on an order of fries for $3 and made a meal out of the two dishes. The bread that was served before the meal, with oil, herb and Parmesan was excellent too. I would eat here often if I lived in the area. The drink menu is unique in its own right but food menu continues to follow that path as well. Tonight we had filet, beef medallions, and lamb shank. All were excellent. The presentation of each plate was wonderful. Vegetable and potato compliments were delicious, and there are many more types of compliments available. The location is easy to reach and parking is wonderful with parking in the back near the patio dining and along the street in the front. The house was converted for dining years prior but the proprietors have appointed it comfortably including a couch seating off the bar area. The TV in the bar is never too loud. Cleanliness is consistent on every level, from front entry to bathrooms. While I haven't been able to say anything but flattering compliments, I've saved the best for last. The staff. Amazing. Rodney and Elizabeth put their touches on everything, including staff selection, and that is a very good thing. Professional, knowledgeable, nice, and prompt. I just called this restaurant (8:50pm) to get a 9:30 reservation as they close at 10pm. Most places stop accepting reservations not close down their entire kitchen a whole hour early. Idk if that's a northern United States thing, but I'm from Miami and that thoroughly left a bad taste in my mouth. The hostess came back to the phone to say the chef himself said he was closing early tonight and not accepting reservations. I'm sorry, is the chef and owner the same person? I never heard of the chef deciding when a restaurant closes and it's a Saturday night at that! So disappointing for a restaurant with seemingly nice reviews to be such a terrible experience without even getting our foot in the door. I guess I should thank them because they're probably rushing their poor guests at dinner now to finish up so they can close. Will never recommend this restaurant. read more

We both had a 10 ounce sirloin, Panko crusted baked potato and asparagus. Everything was absolutely delicious. We follow that up with desserts. Peanut butter, pie and crème brûlée. Even though both of us were full after our meals, we were still able to find just enough room for these delicious desserts. We will definitely be using this restaurant for our special occasion meals. I traveled down from Cincinnati per the recommendation of a friend. Rodney's did not disappoint! I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Rodney and spent some time talking with him about his passion. He's a fantastic man and from what I'm told, a great employer. I was alone, so I sat at the bar. The manager Jennifer was very attentive and fun to chat with. They have a wonderful drink selection and very reasonable prices. They have a very loyal customer base and I met several last night, who stop in weekly for the best steaks in the area, along with the conversation. Rodney's is certainly a staple in Georgetown and rivals neighboring steak houses in Lexington. I've been to Tony's & Jeff Ruby's and I'd choose going to Rodney's every time. You cannot beat the experience. You definitely get the vibe of a family owned restaurant, yet it's fine dining. Rodney cultivated a special atmosphere. Even the music, lights & decor are carefully curated. The food was exquisite. I had the artichoke dip, which surprisingly had capers (intriguing & delicious at the same time). The chips were fresh. The food was at the perfect temperature. Beef Short Ribs were the special and I devoured my plate. It was a generous serving of braised short ribs with fingerling potatoes, carrots, mushrooms & gravy. Definitely comfort food and what I had in mind. They were the best short ribs I've ever had. The food coupled with the hospitality made this a very enjoyable meal. The only disappointment is I didn't allow enough time to stay for dessert, which I heard is divine. I was headed to a concert in Lexington. The stop in Georgetown was definitely worth it and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. We loved it so much we had to align our travels back through Georgetown just 6 days from our first experience to enjoy Rodney's one more time. My wife was fantasizing about the blackberry sangria so we had to come back and the master chef Rodney said he would create an entire meal just for us. Wow, each course was a delight to the palate. Without a doubt 5 stars! I arrived late so there were only a few people at the bar. But Chef Rodney was sitting there and chatting with the customers. He showed me how beautiful the tuna looked when he got it fresh that day from a photo on his IPad. Funny, I love to take pictures of awesome food too! This is my second visit to Rodney's on Broadway. We came here to celebrate my son's birthday and they were keen enough to sprinkle a few birthday confetti on the table with a little birthday card for him before we arrived. Nice touch! They have a diverse food and beverage menu. The food and beverage was awesome - there was nothing not to like. And they have great creme brulee! I visited Rodney's for the first time last evening with two friends. Normally, we do not drive to Georgetown, but thought it would be a nice change after we visited Southern Lights at the Horse Park nearby. It was one of the most enjoyable meals that we have had in a very long time. The food was as good as advertised and our server could not have been more pleasant, knowledgeable, and showed great enthusiasm for Rodney's and the quality of its food and drinks. When we arrived, our table was not available as the prior party had not yet left. The hostess was very determined to get us a table as soon as possible and we were seated at another table as soon one came available. The table that had been reserved was not vacated until a full hour after our reservation time. I mention this as a reminder that when restaurants accept reservations, there is a social contract that you will leave within a reasonable amount of time. Profit margins in the restaurant industry are very slim...holding a table long after your meal has been finished costs the restaurant money, and frankly, it is just plain rude. read more

What an amazing experience! It was my wife's birthday and I only made reservations 4 days in advance, but they still gave us a beautiful corner table and had it decorated for her with a card from the chef and staff, what an awesome touch. The food was amazing. The filet you could cut without a steak knife, the grouper was some of the best I have had, and I have had a lot of grouper in my days. The drinks were hearty and delicious, the service was top notch and the atmosphere was so cool, an old period home that was simply amazing inside. 3rd visit to this exceptional restaurant in a charming storied brick house. The food choices are unique, but try everything. Rodney and his wife renovated the brick house that is now a gem. Rodney will sit with you at the bar, and is very east to talk to. I had Chilean sea bass on grits-wonderful! Carrot cake is a must. Wait staff was quick, smart, and very efficient. I love Yelp! My daughter and I were driving to college, and we had to stop near Lexington to break up the trip. So, of course I used Yelp and found Rodney's on Broadway. The food was amazing! We had the delicious goat cheese salad with the raspberry dressing to start, the lamb chops with the mashed sweet potato and potatoes (amazing!!) and julienned vegetables. All was delicious and presented beautifully. A weird serendipity: I got a splinter from my steak knife, which lead the manager to give us dessert.
