The food , service and drinks at Rodrigo's are consistently good. We come here often and the food is always fresh. This time I had the shrimp fajitas beans and rice and also served with sour cream and guacamole. They give you a lot of veggies and shrimp for leftover lunch the next day. I also had a coconut margarita, it comes on the rocks and is delicious garnished with toasted coconut.this restaurant is also decorated so festive. Rodrigo's Mexican Grill has a beautiful exterior that pays homage to Spanish haciendas. The interior is spacious with ample seating available and the staff is friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The restaurant has an extensive menu but, in my opinion, left something to be desired. I ordered the carne asada & camarones (steak & shrimp) and there was something missing in terms of flavor. The dish, along with the salsa and even the margarita, all tasted bland or "off" in some way. I came here the friday before 5/23/25 with my family to celebrate my step dad's birthday. He loves mexican food and we occasionally come here to eat. However it has been probably two years since our last visit. Everything started great we were promptly seated and greeted by our server and wait staff. We were offered chips and salsa and our server gave us adequate time to look over the menu. My mom got the taco plate, sister in law got carne asada plate, brother order the fajita burrito with chicken, step dad got 3 item combo with beef taco, chile relleno, and beef enchilada. I also got 3 item combo with beef taco, beef enchilada and chili verde. My brother was the only one that enjoyed his meal. The rest of the gang thought the food was ok. The rice was undercooked and the refried beans were bland. This place used to be really good maybe it was just an off night. I might give this place another shot since it holds a lot of memories for us. We celebrated my brothers high school graduation back here in 2018. read more

Dec. 31, 2024 My wife and I went for an early dinner today. The restaurant was not full and we ordered our regular meals. No alcohol, coffee only. The wait was longer than normal, the food was terrible, especially the enchilada, part of the tortilla was so hard I thought it was plastic. The sauce tasted terrible. My absolute favorite Mexican restaurant in Orange. We lost our usual go-to's during lockdown. I'm so happy this one survived. I love the decor: dine in is a must! Be sure to also check out their daily specials on margaritas. I'm sipping a pomegranate margarita as I type this. The food and service is top notch. I usually go for the enchilada platter and it's super tasty. The margaritas are pretty awesome too. Salsa is a bit on the wetter side, but it does have a nice spicy kick. Long time patrons going back to the Don Jose days. Sadly, our past few visits have been less than enjoyable. The food quality has dropped dramatically. Carnitas were dry and over cooked, meat in the steak dishes, including the fajitas, seemed to be on the border of its expiration date. I've come to this location on and off since the 80's, when it was called Don Jose. I have many fond memories of family get togethers here, but since I've moved out of the area, it's been a while since I've been back. I made plans with a co-worker to meet for happy hour, and immediately thought of Rodrigo's. I found myself reminiscing of the last time I'd been to happy hour here, and a small buffet was complimentary with drink purchases; but that was last century. We met on a Wednesday at 4:00pm, so we had vast seating options. Our server was at our table within moments. We each got a drink and nachos. Our server confirmed we each wanted our own nachos "because there is plenty to share." We both wanted our own because I wanted spicy and my friend wanted meaty, but the server was right! Imagine a platter piled 5 inches high with fresh tortilla chips, refried beans, olives, melty cheese, sour cream and guacamole. My friend added carne asada & I added jalapeños. I also asked for their spicy salsa which had a chipotle flavor - worth ordering every time! My Midori Colada was refreshing & my friend thought their Margarita on the rocks was delightful. We enjoyed our time so much that 3 hours flew by! There was music playing, but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other across the table. Our server checked on us regularly & kept our water glasses full. When we were wrapping up, the server brought the bill quickly & when I mentioned I had a coupon from registering on the Rodrigo's App, she cheerfully helped me retrieve it and brought the corrected bill reflecting the $10 discount. She also brought each of us a typical styrofoam to-go container and cup for the salsa. Despite us both eating throughout our time, we both had difficulty fitting our left-overs in the container and closing the lid. Indeed! There was enough to share! Everything was tasty and the service was great! Now I have another fond memory of Rodrigo's & I didn't even miss the complimentary buffet. My +1 and I swung in here randomly late one Saturday evening. We're fans of El Torito but we thought we'd give this place a shot. We're glad we did. Though the offerings were similar, we found it to be more cozy and less commercialized. We started by ordering drinks: a Cadillac margarita for me, and a coconut margarita for my +1. We enjoyed both. They were decently strong and the flavors popped. The chips and salsa tasted freshly made, and we feasted on them until our meals came. I ordered a "chimi" style Supreme burrito. It was huge and covered in sauce, so I dug in with a knife and a fork. It was filling and I quite enjoyed it. My +1 ordered a chili relleno and chili verde combo plate, and thought it was delicious. Being retired, it's important to go out sometimes and enjoy others cooking. This is one of our favorite places for a quick, non fast food meal. Pleasant atmosphere. Good service. We always like to go during lunch special ( who doesn't want to save money?) The lunch plates will definitely fill you up, and you'll maybe pass up dinner. Worst, worst experience ever! My family and I dined there for my birthday. While dining in my vehicle was hit in their parking lot. As soon as I realized I called to ask if they had footage of the lot to try and find the vehicle that hit and left my car damaged. A young girl who seemed like she knew nothing assisted me. After a two week wait to find out if they could see anything on their parking lot cameras this girl says they couldn't find anything; mind you she asked more than once for my vehicle info and the location of my car. I felt that she had no idea what she was doing. Any how after calling and speaking to her a few times she calls to say they couldn't locate my car although the camera covered the whole lot. So I asked if it was possible for me to see the lot footage the day my vehicle was hit. She said no because to their convenience the camera would reset that day. I asked if I could set up a face time or something and she refused saying it was too late: I was so disappointed given that I informed them ahead of time of the situation. The impression I got was that they had no intention to assist me. I get it's not their responsibility: all I was asking for was the info of the car that hit me so I could provide to my insurance. We have been back twice now as we really like the food here. The servers and bussers are consistently attentive and always great and welcoming. Food wise we have no major gripes! My husbands favorites are the beef flautas and the Mexican pizza plate. My favorites are the taquito plate, the tacos, and the chili rellenos (which is huge)! We ordered the guacamole as an appetizer last time we went and we were both incredibly disappointed that it wasn't made with fresh avocados and looked like a highly blended, refrigerated, canned offering. So not getting that again! My husband is also in love with their big huge margarita there. He orders it each time we go! So I can't comment on the food. I have been to others. And it's good Mexican food. But we mainly ordered beers and drinks. I do like their margaritas here. You can get one the size of you head. And the prices for drinks here are very reasonable. Not high. Actually a little low. But let's keep that among us reading. The bartender was on point. Got us water right away. Hello I just left your restaurant in city of Orange. As we walked in we were greeted by an amazing host who was so welcoming and he showed us the place. We asked to sit at the bar and he said no worries you're a party of 6, come sit at these tables. We were served the drinks we ordered and when a man asked if we wanted more chips she loudly yelled in spanish "no, no more chips for them they aren't eatting more they're only drinking here" she was very mad and rude. This used to be our go to restaurant for years. Not anymore. The waiters have become very unfriendly and do not like to accommodate special requests. Now mind you we have been coming here for many years. This has become a frequent problem (never used to be). We will still be going to Rodrigo's just a different location unfortunately.
