We did premium AYCE and it's worth it for the salmon and ribeye. I had never seen a coconut broth at hot pot before so I was excited to try it. The coconut broth, beef belly, and citrus sauce is a perfect bite. The salmon is super fresh too and melts in your mouth. We will definitely come back next time we're in town! read more

I come by the Packing House quite often, but never tried Rolling Boil until recently. It wasn't bad at all, and I think that if you live nearby then it's a cool little spot to go for shabu. I went with the szechuan spicy broth and it tasted a bit weird to me and the herbal scents kind of threw me off, but everything else was decent. Service was solid and friendly and the food came out promptly. Our server came by and checked up on us often to see if we needed anything and he seemed pretty friendly. Price-wise the restaurant is definitely a bit more expensive than many other shabu places, but it's understandable considering the location they're in. I went around lunchtime and there wasn't a wait surprisingly, but keep in mind that the restaurant is still on the smaller side. Overall, had a decent lunch here and will probably come back again to try the Thai coconut broth that other Yelpers have mentioned. read more

It's located on the lower level, across from the Vietnamese Restaurant, you can't miss it. We were sat immediately and our waiter quickly gave us the low down of how to order, whats most popular, etc We ordered the shrimp and 2 orders of the Rib Eye with the Szechuan and Miso broth. Yooooo! This place is legit. We had just finished sitting in two hours of LA traffic and we were hungry. We decided with the weather we were having, hotpot was the go to. Props to the two guys that were working that night. Their customer service was top shelf. My cousin and I got their AYCE. He got their Spicy Szechuan and I got their Thai Coconut. None of it disappointed us. The flavor in both was great. At first there weren't many people at the bar area where we were, but then a little into our meal, the place started filling up. Their music selection was on point. Their meat selection for AYCE was good. Ribeye roll, beef belly, pork loin, and chicken breast, and you can upgrade to salmon and premium ribeye. All of it was worth it. Their dipping sauces were great. They included a vegetable platter as well. What I liked about this spot the most was that when our bowls were running low on soup base, they didn't just add water to it like other spots. They gave you a brand new bowl. They always checked in on each customer and gave refills even before we could ask. Other spots I've been to, you're trying to flag down your waiter for anything. Jaime and I wanted something warm for dinner and we've had Rolling Boil bookmarked for quite some time. Located on the bottom level of the Anaheim Packing House, the spot is usually pretty crowded with not only patrons, but people gawking a the TVs they have showing various sporting events. We were able to snag a table pretty quick, and our server immediately brought over menus, a plate of veggies/tofu and a drink menu. Being this was our first time doing hot pot, we were a little lost in the process and expectations, but she was great to walk us through the activity. Basically, you start with your meat selection, choose a broth, pick your type of rice, select two dipping sauces and then you wait for your water to boil before throwing all the ingredients into the hot liquid in front of you. I went with the 12-piece ribeye steak with their Thai coconut broth. Jaime's not a big fan of cooking his own food, so he opted for the Beef Noodle Soup that he's come to love from past tastings where they were sampling it. The steak was an ample amount. It comes on a white plate so that the red color pops when it's walking towards you. I was really hungry, and probably could have consumed more, but after slurping up the remainder of the citrusy broth, I was completely stuffed. Jaime's soup was good and the meat was super tender. If you're looking for something on the smaller side and don't want to go all out, their single portions are a good option! We really enjoyed our meal here and will for sure be back. This was my first time to the packing house and my wife and I were just wanting to sample different foods around the house. When we walked by the rolling boil a patron at the counter yelled at us that if we bought food he would pay for our sake. Well I can't pass that up. So we ordered chicken/ beef fried rice and got our sake. The fried rice was full of flavor, fresh, and cooked to perfection. This was by far the best fried rice I've ever had. We then went to walk around to try other foods but we ended up back at rolling boil for a hot pot. Let's just say that if my bank account allowed me too, I would eat here every night. The food is bursting with flavor but it's also so fresh. They literally slice the beef on the spot. And the broth, oh the broth. I got the coconut broth with sesame sauce on the side. We wondered if we had to order them separately since they had special noodle dishes on the menu...but found out (only after going out of our way and asking) that they ran out. :( I feel it would've been appreciated if we were told about this fact before we were served anything, as noodles to a shabu place are a pretty big deal. But c'est la vie... We ordered the Rib Eye Steak as the waitress recommended it saying it was more tender than the NY steak but not as much as the Prime Rib Rye. The meat quality was pretty decent. I got the Thai Coconut broth as I've never seen this option at other shabu places and I love me some Tom Khaa soup. The broth was very flavorful and I really liked it. I got the 'try em all' option for the sauces and the Citrus is basically their version of ponzu sauce...with just a more lemony kick and Toasted Sesame is their version of peanut sauce. I liked the Sha Cha sauce as it was different and it reminded me of a sauce I've tasted in many other Chinese foods. We also ordered the dumplings, which I would pass on as their pretty bland and not like any Asian dumpling I've tasted...even with the sauce. I should say first that I am not at all a fan of restaurants that insist on patrons cooking their own food. If I wanted to do that of course, I'd stay home and learn to cook. So when a client suggested this place for lunch and said it was his "favorite place".. I didn't really feel I could say "NO" but I truly wasn't excited. We went for a weekday lunch, but after 1 so the food court was busy but not slammed. We were able to find a seat at Rolling Boil's main bar with no problem. The owner or manager (couldn't tell) was very friendly and helpful and really, that's the reason for 4-stars. The truth is that I honestly just didn't eat much at all because the whole process seems so over-wrought and unnecessary - boiling your own food. And if you could choose a cooking process when someone is making you dinner, you almost never say "boil me something", right?? So I did order some steak for boiling in a veggie broth. I was pleasantly surprised by the nice chunks of fresh tofu that came alongside in the veggie bowl (honestly, a bowl of raw veggies, also for boiling). I ordered the peanuty-based sauce. And brown rice. Again, the owner/manager was helpful with talking me through but it still seemed like a lot of work for lunch... let things come to a rolling boil (OH, get it now?), add veggies for flavor, add your meat, put in bowl with rice and your choice of sauce. Or I think that's how you do it. It wasn't awful at all.. but again, it was boiled steak. So no, I would not come back nor do I want to do this again. IF however, you really dig making your own food and think boiled food is delicious, this would be a great place to go. It's usually packed and I like the customer service here. During our first time here, the server was really polite and showed us the menu and suggested to us some options. My friend and I liked the meal here. It was a really different atmosphere because we were eating hot pot instead of APD. The hot pot heat setting works here just like a couple of other places. Seriously the best combo! I may be biased because I try my best to stay away from red meat, but still.. this salmon and spicy coconut broth was so good... mixed with the vegetables and rice and sauces, yummy! It's the same owner, different chef, similar concepts, but one is shabu shabu, the other is Chinese hotpot. What's the differences? I don't know everything... I hate shabu shabu because it's flavorless, too much work with mixing soy sauce and adding this and that into the broth. It's confusing as heck! I really don't like to think or use my head when I'm eating. Shabu was on boarder line of being blacklisted of places to go eat...but here comes Rolling Boil, rolled into my life and turned it upside down, inside out. It changed my life! I love it! Im a pretty big fan of CALI SHABU, the shabu is delicious and is easily known as one of the top Shabu restaurants in the the OC area. But... Shabu only gets you so far. I simply love the taste of the broth! p.s. yes cooking food in plain water is "healthier"...but Im all about that flavored-soup swag. So.... When I heard the owners of CALI SHABU were going to open up a HOT POT restaurant...I literally had the hugest erection in the world. CALI SHABU is already delicious, one can only imagine how amazing their hot pot edition would do. So about the food... Broths: (Good Ol' Water/Szechuan Spicy/Savory Vegetarian) There are three different choices of broth. Plain Water, Spicy, and Vegetable. The Spicy and Vegetable are absolutely delicious. The vegetable broth "sounds" boring, but the taste definitely isn't. The broth is literally "savory." The spicy broth...not very herbally (big + for me), not too spicy, kinda taste like a Szechuan Spicy. This shabu restaurant is tucked right next to the Blind Rabbit. I wanted to sit at one of the tables but we had three people in the group and they do not have the hot pot seperator so we had to sit a the bar. The shabu soup had many choices. There is also an option to have 50/50 broth. I wanted to get the thai soup but they did not have that option at the time. I decided to get the veggie and spicy szechuan, the New York steak 8 pieces and for the sauces I got the peanut and citrus. To me, this place is a combination of the Japanese shabu and Tawainese hot pot. The meat is fresh and the soups are flavorful. The Roiling Boil is a Taiwanese Hot Pot spot at the Packing House. It's located downstairs next to the entrance of The Blind Rabbit and consists of a u-shaped bar to sit around and 2 other tables for parties of four. We had to wait around half an hour to get seated and the line was pretty backed up mostly because a party of 9 took up the majority of the bar. I'm a bit confused as to why anyone would come to this tiny place with such a huge party. There are plenty of other hot pot places around OC and The Packing House could've been a follow up dessert location after... just saying. Despite the line, the wait staff was polite and apologetic and seated us as soon as possible. The ordering process is extremely simple and the menu is designed to be really easy to understand. I started by picking a broth. I went for the $1 Szechuan spicy broth - spoiler alert: not at all spicy - and then picked two sauces. I ordered the sha cha and toasted sesame sauces. For my protein I got the 8-pc $16 rib eye steak. My friend got all the vegetarian options for her hot pot and also ordered the $4 onion pancake. Our meals were delivered shortly after ordering and the process for cooking our food was explained thereafter. My favorite part of the meal was definitely dunking everything in the sesame sauce. It provided the best flavor of the entire meal. The rib eye was decent and the selection of vegetables was great. I liked the carrots, butternut squash, kale and the udon noodles. The variety made the soup much more interesting. The meal is served with a small bowl of white or brown rice as well. If I could suggest one change it would be to add more depth to the flavor of the broth. It wasn't nearly tasty and spicy enough and I had to rely heavily on the sesame sauce to provide the flavor. As for the onion pancake, they provide a generous portion of it for $4 and was paired with a tangy orange sauce. I felt that both were lacking in flavor and relied yet again on the sesame sauce to give it a kick. The service here is great. Everyone is fast, friendly and helpful but the food is just decent. After an unsatisfactory meal at the Chippy upstairs, I decided to get a taste of Asian cuisine at the Packing House. My first red flag should have been the fact that there was no people. But hey why not? We got the large New York steak set as well as the mixed set that came with sliced pork and bay scallops. For the broth, we went with the miso and Szechuan. The service was decent and the waitress occasionally came by to tune the pots' temperature and check how we were doing. Few minutes go by and the food finally comes. My initial thought: can the slices of meat get any thinner? They were as thin as paper and once you cooked them, they shrank to the size of a pulp. Additionally, you couldn't taste the true flavor of the pork and beef since they were so thin. Bay scallops were decent and you could taste a slight natural sweetness from them. Overall, I had to rely heavily on the sauces. The other additions that came with the set were below average, lower in quality compared to SWSH Shabu Shabu. This includes some vegetables, udon, and tofu. The only elements I particularly enjoyed at this restaurant were the broth and shacha and ponzu sauces they provided. If you decide to dine here, expect the price of one hot pot to be around $19.00. In my personal opinion, I believe this is far from an authentic hot pot. If you are looking for something authentic, I would advise you to look elsewhere. read more

Wow! Just wow! Did you know, this joint isn't a shabu shabu restaurant? The owner(?)/manager specifically told me it was a Chinese Hot Pot place. There is a very distinct difference between the two (please see my Yojie review for my explanation ;)) We had passed by this when the Anaheim Packing District was still new and was still collecting it's variety of restaurants and eateries. Rolling Boil was one of the early ones that was already opened. We finally got the chance to try it and was totally blown away by the flavors and quality of the food. Although on the expensive side, Rolling Boil is a Hipster Chinese Hot Pot place inside the Anaheim Packing District that provides very simple and delicious hot pot using very fresh ingredients. :) Ordered a 12 pc NY Steak with a Vegetarian Mushroom Broth ($17.00+$1.00 soup base) with their light, delicious and subtly tart citrus sauce. The broth had amazing flavors without being greasy and complemented with the succulent and beautifully marbled lean NY Steak meat, the meal was beyond what I expected and didn't leave me feeling gross afterwards! The service was great and very attentive, always cleared our plates in a timely fashion so that it didn't become cumbersome to us when we were eating. TIPS: Try and come a little before the dinner rush, they get packed fast! And also APD has overflow parking around the corner on Claudia St if you can't find parking. I felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome here... From the moment I arrived I understood I had to wait to be seated reading from the sign they have. But nobody behind the service bar dared to even say anything like a hi welcome. I just got a glance that I interpreted as a side eye. I tried to give them some grace but there was only four people seated and plates left behind waiting to also be acknowledged. After 10 minutes I was finally told I'd be seated soon. I asked a few questions being my first time trying this place and having some confusion - I was met with our server pushing our menu back to us and confusing me because he wouldn't answer my questions. I was so disappointed with the service and ever more with the food. The plate of veggies was very disappointing to look at. The sauces were good but after all that I just didn't want to be there. I stuck it through because I was hungry and wanted to give give them the benefit of the doubt but it was impossible. 'Tis the season for HOT POT! And if you want something less greasy at the Anaheim Packing House, this is your place. There's counter and table seating, but I prefer the counter. It feels more fun for something like this. I've been here a couple of times. The second time they were packed but they took down my cell to call me when seating opened up and they did. I like that each person gets her/his own hot pot (a metal bowl) so you can customize the way you want. You start by picking the protein and a size (4, 8 or 12 pieces), then a broth and lastly, two sauces. You can also do a 50/50 split on the protein. The first time I picked the ribeye and the next time I went with 50/50 ribeye and gulf shrimp. The savory vegetarian broth is so good I keep getting that one. The citrus sauce is my favorite. I am officially obsessed. As someone whose only exposure to hot pot was Shabu Shabu and Sukiyaki, it was quite the experience to get super flavorful and spicy broths. Angel was amazing and I usually call all amazing servers angels, which is kind of ironic, but in all seriousness she was FAN-fucking-TASTIC. She recommended the 50/50 broth WHICH MEANS YOU CAN MIX TWO! I didn't even know that was a thing! So, I got her favorite which was the coconut milk and the spicy one to create a delicious flavor that can only be experienced, not described. The beer selection has a great variety and they also have an awesome sake selection as well. The staff went through great lengths to take care of me and even though eating alone is looked down on and is considered weird, I didn't feel that way at all.
