Tomato Egg Donburi and Lamb Skewers
Sarah L.

Decided to give this place another try, and I will say it has improved! I got the Spicy Chicken and Mapo tofu and both were good. I wouldn't get the tomato egg again, but this place is inexpensive and quick to fulfill your Asian food cravings. Not bad and a nice quick meal after class.

General Tso's Tofu Donburi

This place became my son's favorite at school after having it once. So he wanted to take us here for lunch. The place is dimly lit. Looking at the menu on the kiosk and the dishes in front, I couldn't tell if the dishes were spicy since we don't eat spicy. The menu items on the kiosks don't have an icon indicating spiciness. I had to ask since my son wanted the General Tso's Tofu Donburi. We also ordered the Lamb Donburi and some skewers. The tofu dish had a slight kick and delicious so my son was fine. The other dishes were spicy and I was sweating. Taste wise, it was good once I got past the burning. You are suppose to receive a text notification but I didn't so we waited a while for our dishes before someone came out to tell us it was ready. The donburi bowls portions are generous. If you're looking for spicy food, this is a good place to go. I'll order the tofu donburi next time.

They give a nice amount of food. I tried the general tso chicken as well as a beef meal. I would have liked some more vegetables. I felt that the chicken was dry and the beef a bit too salty.

Low end of mid in terms of the taste but the price is half the normal here. They also serve the food pretty fast which is nice.

While it's cheap there's a chance of food poisoning. It's like playing roulette with your stomach.

Heavy. Needs some freshness/veggies. Could not see staff when I came to get my order. Bad ambiance unless only trying to do carry-out.

She was awesome and hooked me up with all three, which turned out to be the perfect move. The sandwich was massive--easily a third of a pound of meat. I went for the fatty cut, and it didn't disappoint; you could see a legit smoke ring on the meat and the deep, smoky flavor stood up on its own even before adding a drop of sauce. It was a solid experience from start to finish. I'm definitely swinging back through when I need a quick, heavy fix. Once you walk in, you walk up to a counter place your order and they will call out your name on the order is ready for pick up. There is also a fully self service station for sauces as well as Takeaway boxes if you need them. The menu offers a lot of different combinations and samplers and meats from pork to chicken. The sides are also a little bit unique in the sense that the vegetable sides also have added bacon, which is great to see. I personally love to see hush puppies, which is a very antiquated and rare to find option for food. And they did not disappoint. Overall, I would say from the sampler of the ribs and the chicken were fantastic as well as the pulled pork. The brisket was OK, but did not necessarily stand out. We did try four different barbecue sauces, which were all fantastic. The hush puppies as I stated earlier were absolutely delicious and I would come back just for these. We also got the corn pudding, which was a little bit on the sweeter side, but made and baked fresh just like everything else here. And this was a great alternative to cornbread. To top it all off, the staff here was so super nice, especially the young man at the counter when you first walked in as he also offered up a sample of the corn pudding because I've never heard of corn pudding nor did I ever tried it and this was also my first visit. I would definitely come back here again, and/or visit any of their other locations closer to Indy.

Best breakfast in Lafayette!…read more Valerie served us up an amazing first time experience at this classic diner. Sign says they use beef tallow as their cooking oil! Love this spot. I ordered the Drew Brees country fried steak meal with hash browns and biscuits. The root beer jelly was a crazy surprise. Wife had the corn beef hash and eggs breakfast. Everything was 10/10 delicious. Nice cup of joe, the Coffee tasted like a nice breakfast blend, not harsh or bitter.

So imagine my (pleasant) surprise that there was but one Triple XXX restaurant that remained open, carrying the torch (as it were) for that great root beer! So on a nice and humid Saturday, me, hubby, and our little Puppy hopped in the car for a 2+ hr drive to West Lafayette IN for lunch! Of course - we got there - an old-style-diner-like building perched on a hill close to Perdue University in West Lafayette! We were seated in the outdoor "full service" tented section of the restaurant (covered) and perused the menu. After ordering the obligatory Triple XXX root beer (but of course - which came with free refills) we turned to the menu! Hubby ordered the Barney Burger - a 1/4 lb chop steak burger with cheese and grilled onions - as fyi, no burger comes with condiments- you get to "dress your own the way you like it" with condi's on the table. I ordered the Bernie Flowers All-Pro - a 1/4 lb chop steak with lettuce, tomato, onion (which I held) and Miracle Whip (yes!) on a toasty sesame bun. We both got curly fries (which were yummy, btw). Ok- first thoughts- the burgers - while fresh- were a bit dry. Hmm. The lettuce on my Bernie was a nice, crisp, and cold leaf. Yes! The tomato was freshly sliced and - honestly- looked like one I'd cut at home. Sweet! So why the 4 stars - I mentioned the meat was dry? Oh my. Yes, that's the sole demerit. But props to the fries and the awesome Root Beer! We enjoyed it - and just in the nick of time. No sooner did we finish up than a severe thunderstorm rolled into town! So we skedaddled to the car, hopped in, and drove thru drenching rain, super strong winds, some light hail - until we got outta Indiana on our way back to Illinois. Would we come again? Of course! Gotta support places like this-they're an important part of Americana! Check it out yourself and enjoy- as we did!
