My family consist of a group of 10 ppl and everyone ordered and said they enjoyed every bit. I ordered the Rigatoni with al la vodka sauce and pancetta. It was so good. Nine girlfriends and I (former graduates of Wilkinsburg High School several decades ago) enjoyed lunch at the Roman Bistro on a recent weekday. We could not have been more pleased. This was the first time we ever held a lunch event at the Roman Bistro. It was fantastic! We ordered for about 20 people from the 3 choice lunch buffet. We had the steak medallions, grilled chicken, and cheese ravioli with pasta, salad, and bread. Everything we delicious! We all really loved the cheese ravioli. Everyone there was so helpful. Tammy and Pam were great! We were able to utilize one of the TV displays for a presentation, which was awesome. Once again totally amazed by the atmosphere, quality, value and service at the Bistro. It started by accommodating two changes to our reservation party size and time. When we got there, we were greeted and wished a happy new year by Mike Roman the owner. The bartenders were out of this world asking questions, giving a few samples to help navigate the massive selection of draft beer and ciders. After reading the mixture of reviews here, I wasn't sure just what to expect. I was totally pleased with my food. I had the squash ravioli - it was superb. I also had a house salad that was nice and fresh and had just the right amounts of everything. The place was pretty noisy, but I don't think there is anything that can be done about that. I really love the Roman Bistro. The service is great and the food is pretty consistently good. I wish the pasta was fresh, however. My family hosted a wedding shower at Roman Bistro for me on Saturday March 29. As a first timer I was highly impressed! Prior to the party I sat at the bar with a friend and couldn't believe the all of the beer, wine, etc options. Our wait staff inside the party was so friendly, helpful, patient and attentive; we couldn't ask for better service. We had 3 choices on our party menu and guests raved at how delicious everything tasted; the food was served quickly after ordering and in a great flow with the shower activities. We were not rushed out in any way leaving ample time to visit, chat, take pictures, etc at the end of the party. Invited 26 people for Sunday brunch this past weekend. The staff was very accommodating and the buffet selections were fabulous! They had everything from the traditional breakfast foods to some great proteins and pasta options. Other choices included a cold station and dessert table. I went here last night for dinner for the first time. They have an extensive beer selection and food menu. I was very pleased with the service from start to finish. My waitress was very attentive and my Garlic Shrimp was delicious. The White Sangria was pretty tasty too! ;) I will definitely go back soon, perhaps to check out their brunch. We've tried Roman Bistro several times over a few years and in roughly a third of our visits have been disappointed. The waitstaff is professional and caring, but the management is not willing to take responsibility or try to satisfy in the face of problems. Tonight, two of us were served while the third member of our party waited for about 10 minutes before being served. The manager made no apologies and insisted that we had only waited 4 minutes and gave us a card for a free desert next time we bought a dinner there. Never again. read more

Just had dinner with family there. The fish selections were wonderful, but something for everyone from the chicken, steak and salad arena. Our whole group loved their dishes. Delicious food, generous portion and the staff were warm, friendly and went out of their way to make us feel at home and well cared for. This is our go to spot for delicious 'real' Italian cuisine. Horrible horrible horrible !! Over an hour and a half for our food to come out after we ordered. The manager was a complete joke and stated they "had a lot of late checks tonight"..... well sir, maybe instead of walking around doing nothing you should help your staff and then you should probably reevaluate your business !!!!! All he did to rectify the situation was offering to pay for one drink and a salad that looked like it sat out all day! Don't waste your time. This past Sunday, we celebrated my daughter's Baptism at their brunch. We had a private room on the side which was perfect for our large group - 18 people including kids/babies. The variety & quality of food was excellent. Everyone was able to have something they enjoyed whether it was breakfast, lunch, dessert or a little bit of everything! The omelette/waffle chef was wonderful too. Our servers, Kelsey & Amber were AMAZING. Man, I don't know who has anything super negative to say about this place. Some people must be hard to please! I thought it was a great restaurant, and my service was very good. The waitress was very friendly and chatty, and while it was paced out nicely (read, not rushed), I never felt impatient or 'where's my food??' hungry. Whatever service issues from it being new must have been ironed out in the first month. The food was really good too. It was a little modern and experimental (wood-oven fired flatbreads with duck, made from scratch gumbo with huge hunks of crab and shrimp, pasta with fig and shallots, creme brulee, these are just a few of the things we tried) but it wasn't pretentious. Also the portion sizes were huge! You also get bread that comes out with a dipping plate including olive oil, tapenade, and sun-dried tomato pesto. (See, fancy!) I'd feel comfortable telling someone that this is a good place to take friends, a date, or even your parents. The atmosphere is just 'nice,' and fits well for a lot of things. As far as value, we payed $55 (including tip) for a 3 course meal and we still had enough food left over for lunch the next day. I'd call that a great value! So, overall: Pros: -good value -fancy, yet not pretentious -classy atmosphere -drink selection -service -delicious food Cons (I only have two): -music (the background music was a weird mix. They'd do better to just stick on a jazz CD) -the 'beet salad' is actually a salad with beets. But I told the waitress and she took the constructive criticism very graciously and agreed that it needs to be noted better on the menu. I can't wait to go back! Came here yesterday with my boyfriend and his sister for lunch. Was somewhat crowded being st Patricks weekend. When we got there the dining room was busy. The bar wasn't so busy so they seated us at two high top tables pushed together which was fine. The bartender was our waitress. There was a waiter who was also helping our table. He wasn't friendly at all and seemed very unpleasant. To get to the point. Food was pretty good. But no one came to check on us or see if we needed anything. I had to ask two other servers for ketchup and refills on all of our drinks. I had an empty glass from before my meal came out and long after I finished. In my opinion that is poor service. read more

Walked in at 7pm, took awhile for our order to be taken, got our appetizer (which was good) after not too long. At 8pm, a manager came and apologized for the wait. Food finally came at 8:15pm, with the manager again apologizing and saying dessert would be free. My plate of ravioli was overflowing with a very watery cream sauce and it took more time to flag someone down to get it fixed. When it came back, it was good. But it took longer for anyone to check on us again or see if we wanted dessert, at which point we just wanted to leave. They did take my ravioli off the check instead of the free dessert, and I appreciate that. But after waiting 75 minutes for food, it's excruciating to have to wait around to be checked on, to get the check, and for someone to finally run the check. The food blew me away! I wasn't sure what to expect but it was outstanding, quality food. I got the pollo ala cuomo and my boyfriend had the osso bucco. My mouth waters even now just thinking about it. My mom got the salmon and my sister got the scallops and they raved about them as well. I recently read a report indicating that independent restaurants have been out performing chains for the first time. i was a bit shocked, but then i thought about Roman Bistro! And it started to make sense. This place is really doing things right. Across the board, you name it, food, ambiance, service, menu selections/choices and changes. They never stand still. In all areas they continuously raise their own bar. The owners have built a pretty darn impressive crew of employees who are loyal and seem proud to be part of something so cool. The place is cleaner than the board of health, a huge plus, and Roman Bistro is gorgeous to begin with (double win) They nail events, parties and big holidays. Just a very very well run, restaurant. Its gotten to the point now where Roman Bistro has become part of Greater Pittsburgh, and we are lucky to have her. Most of these reviews are about the food. Well, back to the first thought. They are outperforming and the food is obviously the driving catalyst of that. Big menu that will touch every want small, large, simple or unusual, the food is always really top notch and you can tell its a scratch approach, you get the feeling that there is a lot of 'homemade' going on back in the kitchen. You can't fake authentic. I could go on and on about the food there and what i have eaten, i will let everyone else do that. Bottom line.....GREAT PLACE! really just an impressive job by an independent who is nailing it, and deserves it. Well done! 2 thumbs up! read more

Excellent food, great service. Only a little too noisy because of a slightly rowdy birthday party in the room. Management should have asked them to remember there are others in the room. But would go back in a heartbeat. Prices are medium high. I bought a $20 Groupon for $11 but for two people the bill was over $60. Went to Roman's tonight with friends and it will be a long time until I return. The service was very rough, food was so,so. The fries were al little pieces and over cooked, I requested ranch dressing for my fries and was told there would be an additional charge, I agreed. I will add I received about a tablespoon of ranch. We were rushed through our dinner, asking about take home boxes and checks. One guest had the $5 off promotion that is no longer accepted, a man came over did not say a word gave her credit for the promotion and turned around and walked away. He never uttered one word! Then the hostess came over and asked if she could have our table in 20 minutes, yep you read that right! We said oh yes you can have it now we are out of here.
