Everyone was extra friendly and the tech that arrived put on shoe covers and was polite to a T. My beef, is what I consider a total lack of transparency, bordering on questionable ethics. I had a very straight forward toilet replacement job and when I asked for a ballpark estimate, the office person told me she had no idea and, as every job is different they offer a no obligation quote when they arrive. Total nonsense. Their logic makes sense of the toilet is leaking or does not work, but 95% of the time, replacing a working toilet with a new toilet does not entail surprises. So I sit around waiting for the tech to arrive and then wait 20 minutes while he measures the toilet and then prepares a hand written quote. I don't mind that it was 3x the amount Lowes charges. If they can get that type of money, they have won their customer's respect. My objection, as stated above, was questionable ethics. Many plumbers will provide a ball park on the phone. Most customers likely are swayed by their professionalism and by the time the plumber arrives, they are either too intimidated to say no thanks, or are willing to pay several hundred dollars more to save the hassle of going through it all over again with another company. read more

I cannot remember a better experience with any plumber or plumbing company than we have had with Roman' Plumbing. We had worked with Roman years ago when he was employed by another outfit which was eventually sold. We experienced a plumbing emergency the other night ... it was late. We had received a wonderful letter from the previous company when it changed hands and then again when they decided not to service Marin County. They referred us to Benjamin Franklin plumbing and heating and had sent us a wonderful letter stating things like would be treated as VIPs, and one call does it all, ... well, one call does not do it all at Benjamin Franklin. One call did not in fact do anything. Benjamin Franklin plumbing told us they were booked up and could not help us and when I asked for a referral her reply was, "I'm not even in California sir; we can't help you." So much for VIP customer service from Benjamin Franklin. We tried several others and my wife finally said, let's call Roman. I was unsure about the one-man shop being able to service our needs but I was very pleasantly surprised. We left a message for Roman late at night and the call was promptly returned first thing the next morning. We were told that they were booked, and she was very apologetic and then said "let me call some of our other resources and see if we can't get you fixed." She was calling competitors to help us out of a jam. This was absolutely Macy's referring people to Gimbels and it was above and beyond the call of duty. She then called back to say that their schedules have changed, that she found one of their own technicians who would be out between 11 and 1 PM. He showed up at about 1130 and did a brilliant job. He did what was necessary. He did what we wanted and corrected the problem. He did not try and sell us outrageously priced services, he did not try and sell us a new water filtration system or suggest that we redo the entire plumbing system as others had. After troubleshooting the issue, Jason and Jay made perfect repairs, and cleaned up so we never know that anyone had been there. I cannot say enough good things about Roman's plumbing. It was Jason and Jay who did the work. They were great. I mean really, really great. When they say "one call and you're family," they mean it. I haven't written a review on Yelp in a very long time, in part because I have come to doubt the quality of reviews on Yelp. But, today I have to call out the excellent customer service we received from Roman's Plumbing, who I called because of their high Diamond Certification rating. Our problem: upstairs bathroom leaking through the downstairs kitchen ceiling. Yuk. Jason worked with thorough focus to diagnose two issues that were causing the problem. Faulty bathtub drain pipe and worn out tile grout. Replacing the drain pipe required two plumbers, but, because my husband and I work during the week, Jason rearranged his schedule so he could return later in the afternoon with another plumber to replace the drain pipe. This was simply to save us from taking another day off work. Since he gave us the time, we decided to have more non-emergency work done. It was worth it to us to have a number of things completed at once as time is very valuable to us which Jason surmised without our pressing the issue. Jason also gave us a referrals for the tile work and drywall we need to have done as a result of the leak. Jason and his apprentice Jay were extremely respectful of our home and cleaned up afterwards. They were both also very pleasant and easy to communicate with. Maybe the parts were a bit pricey, but it was well worth it for the knowledge, professionalism and amazing customer service. I will call them for all our plumbing needs going forward. read more

She accosted me and would not leave me alone when I stated repeatedly that I would not discuss my Yelp review with her. This person seems very volatile, unsettled, and her approach to customer service is to harass anyone who criticizes their work. THEY HAVE MADE NO MEANINGFUL ATTEMPTS TO ADDRESS OUR CONCERNS. Bottom line: NO FREE ESTIMATES AND NO PRICING TRANSPARENCY! They will not explain their costs and they charge you to inform you what they will charge you. Buyer beware that if you post a negative comment, she will not let it go! I am about to complain to Yelp! If I could leave zero stars I would. What could make a quiet old man scream at a business owner to get the F off my porch? A frantic business owner demanding to litigate my Yelp review when she didn't like my opinions. She would not take no for an answer, she insisted on saying what was on her mind, and didn't care at all that it was my home and I was not going to discuss my review in front of the county inspector. This woman went off on me to the point where I had to demand that she leave. It's never come to that before and I hope it never happens again. We have used Roman for several jobs, which were all over priced. In fact, they charge $175 for a quote and did not apply that to the final bill. So it ropes you into thinking you have invested in the company instead of seeking other quotes. And this was an emergency situation: my wife's mother needed hit water. When I finally asked for an itemized receipt when laying the invoice, Roman told me they "don't do that." He mumbled through a feeble explanation but still refused to even quote the price of the water heater. Had it not been an emergency, I would have found another plumber. He drained the old tank onto my lawn without asking permission. He left pipe behind, so didn't clean up after this job. The new taps in the bathroom are coming apart after a $3000 upgrade a few months back. He left a dirty bathtub after working, so no clean up on that job either. Really over dealing with a high-priced under-performing plumber. BEWARE: No free estimates! UPDATE: Her reply is not what she was saying to me. She was sobbing, and aggressive! History: Eleni came out to meet the county inspector. I mentioned we had requested an itemized receipt. In response to my review, Eleni attempted to defend her business. At first, I politely informed her that I would not discuss this with her now, but she would not accept my no and insisted, getting louder and more frantic as I got louder in my refusal to discuss my review. Eleni tried to pull the inspector into the conversation, which he tried to avoid. I became more insistent that she stop, each time she tried to engage which was never ending. It was dealing with a toddler throwing a tantrum. When the inspection was done, she drew the inspector into the conversation saying that I was questioning their competency. He looked embarrassed. After he left, I told her that I was not questioning their competency but rather their integrity. That's when she came up my stairs crying at me, telling me that I don't know how hard they work. It was so dramatic and unprofessional. I told her to leave several times, while she cried at me and moved closer with each argument, finally offering a complete refund if I wanted it. I said yes. I finally had to tell her several times to get the F off my porch and my land. Her husband showed up, didn't say a word to me, and proceeded to try and calm her so they could leave. I am a disabled 65 y/o man who should not feel harassed, accosted, interrogated, disrespected, or made to feel anxious in his own home by a service provider who was unhappy with my Yelp review and had physical access to my home and person. It was rude, intimidating, embarrassing, unnecessary, and entirely unprofessional. If all business owners acted like this every time a customer publicly voiced dissatisfaction, the world would be uncivilized. This experience has left me feeling ill after such an adrenaline response to her aggressions. All the happy little cards from them cannot undo such a horrifying experience. Peter came by the next morning after we called 4pm previous day with a probable faulty thermocouple issue on our water heater. A very pleasant guy who was quick to assess and get going on a fix. He was respectful of our home, wearing shoe covers on our boots. Just over an hour later we have hot water. I appreciated them rolling the diagnostic fee (95 per half hour or 170 per hour) into the overall final cost ($275). I would have thought cost was high, but having consulted many other companies, it was acually a bit better than the going rate in Sonoma County. It helped that our Rheem water heater was under warranty and I got the pilot assembly part at no cost in advance from manufacturer. Years ago this fix could have been done by the average person, but it seems the manufacturers of modern water heaters have made it difficult to do anything but hire someone. And 5 stars to these guys and to Peter for doing a good job. I'm hoping it lasts for a while now! read more

When Monica told me they were booked (after I told her we were totally unable to use any toilet or shower in the house) and very honestly told us probably wouldn't be able to help until tomorrow or Monday, the most miraculous thing happened as I was trying to get over my disappointment ... I used to recommend these guys strongly. They've lost their minds. Less than 5 years ago, they installed one complex expensive part to manage water pressure at my tiburon home. When Roman finished I expressed concern over the exposed joints when prior plumbers had painted or covered those joints. Now 5 years later, those joints have failed causing a 1 gallon per year leak. Not a big deal but a problem that needs to be repaired. After a $95 cost to come quote the "repair" (which I thought was a warranty item) his guy tells me I need to pay $1595 and replace the entire unit as the rusted joints have ruined the unit!! read more

I've used Roman's a few times in the past when I had sewer problems at my rental and always was impressed! This past week there was a blockage in sewer line so I called them to see if they had a tec to come take a look short notice. While they could not squeeze me due to short notice and almost after hours. the office woman or should I call her "super woman" Eleni stayed late to make phone calls on my behalf to get someone there to fix problem, which they did. Romans goes above and beyond to accommodate there past customers. Great customer service! Thank you for all your help. 8/27/18 Once again plumbing backed up and called on short notice. Romans staff jumped through hoops to get me a tech which turned out not to be needed because I got problem fixed. The staff was so happy I got problem fixed for my tenants even thought the were not the ones to unclog line. Fast forward to 8/29/18 i received a card from them. Seriously the best experience I've had with a plumber, maybe ever. We had a kitchen sink clogged. We called up Roman's who was booked that day, but they squeezed us in no problem. We didn't really ask, but they read between the lines and understood our kitchen sink being clogged is something you don't want to wait on. When they came out, we thought they were just going to find something in the garbage disposal; maybe even replace the disposal at worst. But it turns out, our entire house had a clog in the line leading to the street. Roman's went the extra distance and snaked our house from the street and unclogged a massive block. Sometimes it's hard to find examples that combine good customer service with good business ethics. I can cite two for Roman's Plumbing. First, we were having trouble getting hot water to the bath furthest away from the water heater and were thinking of a tankless heater. We called Roman's out to estimate the job, and he recommended a solution (I don't understand the particulars but it was a valve of some type) that brought the hot water out faster at a much lower cost than a tankless heater. Second, we had a hot water heater go out over the holidays, which is an incredibly busy and shorthanded time for any company including Roman's. But they got out to us a day after we came back from an out-of-town trip, making time in their schedule. The heater regulator was broken and out of warranty and we assumed we would have to replace it (and we would use Roman's to do the work to replace). But Roman's did some additional research later and found out that although the heater was out of warranty, it had a still active recall to it. They referred us to a different plumber who was authorized to do repair work under the warranty, and saved us a bundle as a result. It was an extraordinary act of customer service for which we are grateful. You can't go wrong with Roman's Plumbing. read more

I originally posted a review with issues I had over charges that I felt were too high given the service rendered (My wife was home while I was at work). After doing so, I called and left a voicemail regarding this problem as well as a problem that was still present. After doing so, I received a call from the owner who apologized and went out of her way to make everything right. She found an error in the charge and let me know she was making a correction. She also sent their plumber back out to our home. I decided to change my review and debated on giving 4 or 5 stars. I decided to give 5 stars based on how hard the company worked to make sure I was 100% satisfied. I believe strongly in customer service and have no problem paying a little extra to receive the best service possible. I believe Roman's Plumbing went out of their way to make sure I was completely satisfied. Everyone is entitled to making mistakes, how one handles a mistake is the true measure of character. The way Roman's Plumbing handled a mistake says a lot about the integrity of the company. We had a leak from the shower into the living room downstairs. We called Roman's and he came and gave us an estimate even his company was really busy. We accepted the price. He fixed the leak even though the pipe was really hard to reach. They had to come back and wait for the Novato county inspection. Then we asked about the faulty shower head. Roman tried to screwed it tight but it did not work. He order us a new one and replaced it. Roman and William were courteous and efficient. I recommend his company for plumbing work. read more

WHY DOES ROMAN'S GET OUR BUSINESS...?? The 2nd floor toilet to an office building I manage in Santa Rosa was plugged and overflowing, draining into the first floor foyer. The toilet was original to the building (circa 1980's). After an initial clean-up and diagnostic, it was determined this original unit needed replacing. This was on a late Monday afternoon. Contacted Roman's first thing Tuesday morning who gave me a Wednesday window of opportunity to be there. (As there were other functional toilets on site, having one down for 24 hours was OK.) At 1:30pm on Wednesday, their staff showed up and installed a new, 21st Century Toto toilet which works extremely well. A 4pm check in by me showed the work was done per specs, site was clean and office staff pleased to have the upgrade. This is why we use Roman's.
