Our food looked like it was hastily thrown together after it took so long. I understand food can be good or bad but bad food coupled with bad service is too much. It had been a while since I visited for a meal and I forgot what I was missing. I have only ever sat at the sushi bar and only solo or with 1 friend. I always enjoy the variety of little dishes you get when eating here. Service has always been very friendly. The Ronnie roll will kill you with it's huge portions, but I didn't get that this time. I opted for lighter and got the Bento Box 1. I don't like Tuna, so I asked that they just omit it rather than asking for a substitute (trying not to be imposing). Nevertheless, the sushi bar served me up a little something anyway in its place that was fresh and delicious. This meal was all excellent except the tempura. I would probably avoid the Bento box in the future because of it. It had so much breading that the shrimp was lost in it. Additionally, it was too cakey. I'll be back for sure. read more

Finding the Ronnie2 while visiting Anchorage was a hidden gem! We we're driving around desperately trying to find something open past 8 on a Sunday when we discovered this sushi restaurant. A lot of people have complained about the amount of appetizers served prior to receiving your meal, and I think this is a wonderful attribution. All true appetizer sized - the miso soup, tiny salad and small bowl of rice noodles aren't enough to fill you up but just the right amount of appetizer to give you something to snack on until your dish arrives! The staff was incredibly friendly and willing to offer their suggestions on the menu. The vibes are warm and the food was amazing. I ordered the open wide roll and it was perfect in every sense! We we're even given a small complimentary desert to finish our meal. If I'm ever in town again, I'll be returning! read more

Bad service. Waitress was not polite or friendly at all. Mixed up several orders which is understandable as it was lunch time and also pretty busy. But what's not acceptable or sanitary was the fact that the waitress delivered a plate to me and then took it back after leaving the table because she said it was supposed to go to a different table. She didn't know whether or not I touched the plate and continued to serve it to another guest. With that, the guest that it was supposed to go to refused to eat it considering that I had it first. The server then waited a few moments and delivered the same plate back to me. Ronnie 2 has been my whole family's go-to place forever! We've been mostly getting take-out since shut down, but the service & food is still amazing as usual. We don't usually get sashimi etc, but we do enjoy a yummy cooked roll. Their portions are generous & price is right! Have never been disappointed with this place. Super impressed, blew me away. It's night and day, comparing Ronnie 1 to Ronnie 2. I cannot believe this is part of the same ownership. The place was spotless. We were acknowledged upon entrance by the sushi chef and the waitress. There weren't a lot of people, and we were seated right away. Now, my reservations of the first Ronnie were held, but since I had never been to R2, I had bought the Groupon. I thought, "Well, if it kinda sucks like the other Ronnie, at least I only paid $15." Needless to say, I wasn't concerned at all. My partner and I conversed after we were seated by the polite and bubbly waitress. We talked about how practically every sushi joint in town were the same, some with higher prices than others. But Ronnie 2's menu was a little different. Their prices were comparable, and their rolls had funnier names. They had more to offer in their non-sushi items, as well, which was pretty cool. I've been to a lot of sushi restaurants in town, but never had I seen such a variety of dishes. I ordered the vegetable roll (typical of me) and the fried tofu nigiri. My partner ordered the gyoza soup and Alaska roll. Not only did we get the typical bowl of edamame as an on-the-house app, but the miso, salad, crab-cucumber cold noodles, and even a complimentary mini plate of California rolls (that my fish-eating partner happily consumed on my behalf). We ordered hot tea (I don't think we were charged) which was a little too cooled down for my preference, but it was still a tasty genmaicha. Food came out quickly and it was delicious. The gyoza soup was HUGE. That alone could be one man's meal. The tofu nigiri was surprisingly simple but tasty. They don't skimp on the wasabi or pickled ginger, either. It was almost too much -- I felt guilty for not using all of my prettily-piped wasabi mounds. But, I'd rather have too much than not enough. I think a lot of sushi places give really pathetic amounts of wasabi. Oh, and I liked how our waitress asked if we needed silverware (we didn't!) because most places just plunk down a fork and spoon for us cracka white folk. Even though they're on the other side of town, I think I will make Ronnie 2 part of my favorite restaurants list. I was really happy with the service, the food, and the ambiance. Ooh, and the bathrooms were SUPER clean and super nice. That really says a lot about an establishment, don't you think? read more

In my opinion, this is the best sushi spot in town. I have been to many, I have sampled most, and this stands above the rest. Pros: Cool layout allows you to dine downstairs in a traditional manner or go upstairs and bro out with some homies while feeding each other sushi and beers by the bar. Serving sizes are all great; salads, soups, and mini desserts come with meals. The menu is made in a way that doesn't leave you guessing "what the hell is in that roll" and then feeling massively disappointed when your random guess of an order shows up and wasn't at all what you imagined. I have experienced that at other locations in town. The servers are all very nice, patient, and friendly. My fiancée left her purse there once and we went and got it the next day and there was nothing taken from it. Cons: Muldoon can frighten some. Suck it up if you don't get to East Anc often, and check this joint out. read more

I've been to Ronnie 2 for the past year and it has always been great. Service and food were superb. Until last night I had decided to order out. I had ordered the udon tempura noodles, bento and spicy tuna hand roll. As I opened the parcels To see all the great stuff I got I had noticed something not only was there a piece of plastic floating in the broth of my soup but there was no noodles! Instantly I figure they must've put it to the side I looked in all the containers I had and there was nothing I figured I must've left it in the car there was nothing.. I had just worked a 10 hour shift and I just wanted something delicious and fast. When I called to let them know, they sounded in disbelief. It was already late in the night and I didn't wanna have to go through the hassle of driving across town for noodles that should've been there in the first place. Don't tell Ronnie's, but I actually like Ronnie 2 better than Ronnie 1! The menu is the same, but 2 includes a whole lotta extras that 1 doesn't. The edamame, green salad, and miso soup prior to dinner are standard, but Ronnie 2 includes a small order of sushi, and a cold noodle salad too! Nice touch! As I said before, the menus are exactly the same, and the rolls are all very yummy. Just when you think it's time to get the check and leave, they bring you a little sweet treat! I was so unimpressed with this place, and I'm not overly fussy when it comes to sushi [unless it's regarding quality]. I actually found this place to be overly Americanized, and even though they may have been trying to appeal to people who aren't into raw fish, it doesn't translate well. About a solid third of the rolls had beef in them - yes, beef. One of them was called a "cheeseburger" roll and it had beef and cheese. It sounded like one of those things on "This is Why You're Fat". More than half the rolls had an overkill of spicy tuna, and while I love spicy food, this was spicy beyond any sort of reason. I literally couldn't finish it. My gums were on fire. Not to mention every roll - including the nigiri - had an overload of rice. Good sushi is supposed to have just enough rice to complement the fish but the rice in these made the rolls huge, and filling in all the wrong ways. I'll give them a star for the customer service, that was pretty cool. :) read more

Ate there for the first time today because Shobu had a sign that read, "Today is closed." I ordered the special for 13.95, and it was an extreme value. Two shrimp tempura sticks, 4 pieces of sushi, three zucchini tempuras, a bowl of rice, pork bulgogi and two pieces of meat on a stick. As you can see, I didn't pay a lot of attention to the specifics of the special, but you get the idea. It was all pretty good. I think the weakest entrant was the bulgogi, and the strongest, the tempura shrimp. I'll definitely try this place again. read more

After a day of playing tour guide to my tourist mother, she said she wanted sushi. My wife and her friend had plans afterwards so we all decided that Samurai was our destination. My wife mentioned that to her coworker who said that Ronnie 2 was way better. This was the same person who recommended a nameless lousy Mexican restaurant to us so I was a bit leary, plus I have been to Ronnie 1 and it must not have made an impression because I couldn't remember if I liked it or not. Great choice to go to Ronnie 2!! The place was mostly empty and we were greeted by a cacophony of voices upon opening the door. Service was attentive and they didn't make a snarky look or comment when I wanted a fork. I want to eat my food, not play with it. We were quite hungry and most of us are larger people and the portions did not disappoint. We all ordered bento boxes and one rainbow roll and one nuclear bomb roll to share amongst us. They had delicious edamame on the table, and shortly after ordering we got miso soup, salad, and a cold noodle salad which may have been the highlight for me. It tasted like a fresh spring roll with the dipping sauce already on it, yum! The bento boxes were very tasty but not the star of the show. The rainbow roll was very fresh and just the flavor we were hoping for. Very delicious. My wife and I took care of the nuclear bomb roll. Anyone who thinks it could be too spicy should try it anyway. The heat comes solely from spicy tuna so it is not bad at all. Really good flavor. After stuffing ourselves with our meal, they brought us a little sweet potato cake which wasn't overpowering and just a very good flavor to end on. The huge triangle building known as Ronnie 2 stands out among the trees and small homes on this in betweeners part of Muldoon Road. While driving home after a long day of exploring we stopped by to cure our sushi craving. We came by around 7pm on a Friday rather than waiting for a table we decided to opt for take out. The menu has tons of creative sushi roll creations that include everything from crab to tasty tobiko. After spending way too much time gawking over the menu, I landed on the "Open Your Mouth Roll" which was monstrous and had crab, cucumber, and avocado on the inside and spicy tuna, tempura shrimp, green onion, spicy mayo, tobiko, and eel sauce piled high on the outside. It's almost impossible to eat a whole slice in one bite (ALMOST impossible) but when broken down to be more manageable, each part was great by themselves. Even though we ordered on the spot we only had to wait about 20 minutes until all of our orders were ready to go. Even after the drive home, the meats were still cold and the rice didn't turn mushy. Ronnie 2 serves huge sushi rolls and when paired with miso soup make a gigantic meal guaranteed to fill you up. read more

I decided to just brush that off because I heard good things about this sushi joint. We ordered three rolls and shrimp tempura. When we received the rolls they were stale and didn't taste "fresh". This place is great. Everyone is super friendly and nice. Great creative roll selection. It's also good for big groups with a private space upstairs. Miso is good, tofu is good, sake selection is good. Everything is very clean and there are great decorations. I know a lot of people don't like the beef rolls, but since I don't eat red meat in didn't bother me none. The fish based rolls and dishes are fantastic. Presentation on everything is pretty decent too if that is one of your sushi breaking points. The major down side for me is that they recently installed huge flat screens all over the place playing a variety of shows on the food network and other distracting things. Some tables don't have a veiw of the TV's so that's nice. read more

The food here is okay. But the service was very rude and pushy. They weren't even busy. We walk in and they asked how many then just yelled at us to go upstairs. Once upstairs made me feel like we were inconveniencing them. The waitress kept coming back after we were done eating picking up stuff, trying to get us to leave.
