So this was MY SPOT. Last night I literally was disgusted by how I was greeted off the start. I did think I had a reservation but I was informed that I did not by the manager. Now this was ok not a big deal so I asked if I could get a table. Felt like my head was getting ripped off and manager stated with a terrible attitude "we require people to eat food if they want a table" now I frequent this spot ALLOT because I love the people that work at rooftop! We did get escorted inside and there was a Good amount of empty tables and I got stuck RIGHT SMACK in the middle, now still not a big deal again but seemed like I was put there as punishment. Managers name was Alison and I was really upset how I was treated by her considering I do come in consistently 1 or 2 times a week. My waitress Nikki was awesome but was really upset how the night started not to mention on a expensive check I was forced out at 9:15 with lights completely on. Never seen this before. As a local business owner it hurts to give a bad review but regulars or first timers should not be treated this way. May have to look at a new spot if this is how mgmt is going to treat customers read more

The Rooftop is my go-to restaurant to impress, whether it's friends from out of town or my husband with date night. It has amazing cocktails, the plates are excellent (the 20oz Bone-in Ribeye is a must-try, I ate it before remembering to take a photo) and a great ambiance. Why I'm writing this review is because of my most recent dining experience with my server, Nicole. Nicole was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, super attentive (my water glass was never empty - a pet peeve of mine), and patient as one of our friends went back and forth on what to order. She was very friendly and, even though it was an incredibly busy, Nicole made the time to frequently check on us throughout the night. Thank you, Nicole, for a wonderful dining experience! read more

i was very disappointed. we had reservations for may 11 . we were looking forward to a great dinner. unfortunately our air conditoner when out about 2 pm . having 2 pugs dogs we could not leave them i repeatedly tried to contact them. all i got on the phone was that mailbox was full. so i waited until they opened had the same results. i can not believe that a restaurant would not have phone system that would work. i wonder what else does work jim t read more

Spent 8 hours at this restaurant for a friends birthday party and enjoyed our time had great services UNTIL general manager KEVIN came and attacked our table of gentleman. Yes, we knew we were in the wrong for bringing outside food after the fact but how the situation was handled was completely out of line. As a MANAGER aren't you suppose to NOT escalate the situation but better the situation. Not the case. Instead of leaving it alone and trying to make it better, he kept wanting to make a point that he was right in the situation. Getting more people in our party involved. Very cute spot!! Perfect for a late night bite with friends. It's true to its name - you are literally dining on an open rooftop. The view just oversees downtown Walnut Creek (so basically a bunch of shops/restaurants). The food is prepared to share. It's pretty much just a bunch of appetizers. The drinks are good... I got the tequila mule as usual. The food is good, but not amazing. But definitely good enough for me to return. I'd say the overall experience was a pleasant one. read more

TLDR: Good(ish) food, but not really worth the price. Came here on date night with my boyfriend to celebrate both our birthdays because we kept seeing it around. We decided to order a few things off the menu because the pictures all looked really great. Strawberry salad: The salad was really good, it had strawberries and some deep fried bonito flakes in it. The serving was also HUGE. I was really pleasantly surprised because salads are usually bite sized. Halfway through the salad though, we started to realize why restaurants usually don't give that much. Humans are just not meant to eat that much salad, it was still good, but it had become a chore to finish it. Yellowtail: I usually get ahi tuna at restaurants but I wanted to try something new this time. We love quality yellowtail and it looked really good in the pictures. It came out and again, it was a pretty sizable portion. There were 6 "flower" rolls of it and each roll was about 2-3 slices worth of sashimi. I say "flower" because we could tell that they were trying to arrange the slices into a rose, but it kind of just looked like tubes of meat. We took a bite of a tube and it just didn't taste right. My bf said it was too cold, but I tried unraveling the roll and eating it as slices and that helped a lot. I think rolling it up was kind of a bad call because when you bite through multiple slices of the sashimi it completely ruins the texture of the fish. Banana Leaf Cod: The presentation was beautiful and the fish was incredibly tender. There was kind of a weird fishy aftertaste to it but it didn't bother me too much at first. After a few bites though, the weird taste got a little overwhelming and I started getting a headache from it. The filet was only about the size of my palm but I ended it not being able to finish it because the taste was making me feel sick. Fries: They were just plain thin shoestring fries. Not really something you would usually talk about, but they were the only dish that I actually completely liked. I usually need at least one hot course to be satisfied, but I stopped enjoying the cod halfway through so the fries were my saving grace. Pork Chop: BF got the pork chop and said that he liked it when I asked him how it tasted. But he's usually really expressive about the food he likes and he didn't really say anything else about it so I assume it was only average. Overall impression, the food looks beautiful and high quality, service is great, and the place has all the trappings of a great fine dining restaurant. Sadly the taste is just not really there, and taste is a top priority for me. I don't think the price was really worth the food that I ate, so I most likely won't be going back there again. read more

Had a great time at Rooftop during a work brunch. The manager, Alisson, made sure our whole party was well taken care of. Alisson made sure the staff were attentive to our large party, even though the restaurant was packed for an NFL playoff game. The restaurant has an open space feel and a classy ambiance (without being pretentious) and doesn't get too noisy, even during big sporting events. The food was spot on. The pork belly and the meatballs were my favorite. Mixed drinks were very good. Can't wait to go back for dinner. Highly recommended! read more

The service was not great. It was slow, which would have been okay, but our waitress kept forgetting things, or just neglecting the table, altogether. They definitely need a new dishwasher. The glasses were dirty, which took a while to replace. Then, we discovered our silverware also was pretty gross. We ordered fairly simple food. I just got Brussel sprouts and sautéed mushrooms. My husband got the burger. The food took 35 minutes. No drink refills. The mushrooms were excellent! Brussel sprouts were undercooked and too salty. My husband's burger was very well done when he had asked for rare. No, we did not send it back. He had to ask for more condiments, as the burger was very dry. The bun was fresh and soft. First time here so I was expecting it to be spectacular yet I was disappointed. Salmon is a great meal pair but if you don't pair it with the right things the whole meal is thrown off . I ordered the wild salmon which came with bok choy and purple potatoes . Not the best match up especially considering what they have on the menu . I went with purple potatoes and mashed potatoes (substitutions are limited) when it arrived presentation was nice . The purple potatoes where dry and I felt as if they need some type of flavor cause they didn't have one bit , my mashed potatoes where very good I think that's the only thing I truly enjoyed for a 30 $ meal . The ginger glaze salmon tasted burnt ,salty and fishy I'm pescatarian and make salmon all the time yet it has never been burnt the picture below will give you more of a understanding about what I mean when I say burnt . I enjoyed the plates that we got, but I didn't leave feeling like I got a meal out of this world. I can imagine wanting to come here to catch up with friends and have a social meal. My family and I ordered a lot of different plates, but I'll talk about the Short Ribs, Lamb Meatballs, and Peach Crisp SHORT RIBS (4/5) - Really tender meat that falls apart in your mouth - Super flavorful and easy to share - Paired well with carrots and other vegetables LAMB MEATBALLS (2.5/5) - Nothing really to write home about - Definitely tasted the lamb, but not a course with varied flavor - Yogurt sauce on bottom was pretty good PEACH CRISP (3/5) - Tasted like a normal peach cobbler with gelato on top - Nice dessert to share with other people It took some time to get our food, but all of our dishes came at relatively the same time. Although most of the dishes are to be shared, I didn't think that the portion sizes on all of the dishes were large enough. I really don't like to give this low rate to any restaurants but it was a horrible experience. My friends and I had a reservation made and we were on time to be seated. However, we had to wait almost an hour to get a table even though we had a reservation. What is the point of reservation if we have to wait??? At first, we were trying to understand the situation and be cool about it. While we wait, there were many people who got seated before us even though they got there later than us. After 40 minutes waiting, we had to say something. So the host called her manager, she came out and told the host to let us sit down. After an hour, we got seated FINALLY!!! Still we had to wait for the server to take our order but she never showed up. So we left. Overall, it was so DISRESPECTFUL AND DISAPPOINTING. Ok, so here me out. We have been wanting to go here for a while. Maybe as parents we romanticized the idea of going to a cute (vibe worthy) late night dinner, order drinks and have amazing food. So for starters, the vibe was set. The visuals were there for sure. Presentation-not a problem. The food however, nothing to be excited about, especially after paying $185 ( including a $20 tip). I ordered the short rib plate with mashed potatoes. The way that dish was looking, I was expecting to have a flavor pow-wow on my palate with a side of " oh hell yes"! However, much to my surprise, it was bland, the gravy didn't add any flavor to the dish, mashed potatoes (while fluffy and wisp full) did nothing for me and the ribs had this misleading chimichurri situation on top that was there to just show effort on behalf of the chef. Again, it did nothing. Over all, the food was OK, but nothing magical or rememberable. My husband ordered a shrimp Caesar, but again nothing special about it. In short; if you're looking for a 'Gram-worthy place to take pictures, it's nice! Food and for consumption purposes, you can do way better. read more

We have been here several times over the years and it is always a hit or miss. This last visit was the last miss as we will not be returning. For some strange reason, they do not take reservations on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. They do Monday through Thursday. We walked in on a Friday night at 6:30 Pm and were told there would be a 30 minute wait. So we made our way to the bar, found two seats, and ordered drinks. On the way to the bar, we noticed many open tables. We do not know if they are limiting their access, have staffing problems, or something else as no one said anything. We sat at the bar with our drinks for about 20 minutes at which time the hostess approached us.. She said the bar was reserved for people ordering food and that we should wait out in the very small entry way. I got up from the bar ready to comply but then she said we could finish our drinks. So I sat back down. About 5 minutes later she came back to advise us our table was ready. She took us to a table that had been vacant the entire time we were there. Guest she wanted to get rid of us from the bar. We ordered three appetizers: burrata which was good but how do you ruin cheese and tomatoes; crab toast which was ok but tasteless; and the worst was the spice ribeye lettuce wraps which tasted suspiciously like stew meat. We also ordered one entree which was halibut. The fish was overcooked, dry, and tasteless. The server was supposed to pace the meal but the burratta arrived first and then for some unforeseen reason the halibut entree was next followed by the crab toas,t and then the terrible lettuce wraps. This place has higher prices then similar restaurants. They are now the leader in the price of martinis in Walnut Creek. A Hendricks gin martini was $18 and a vodka martini was $16! With the high prices and mediocre food this is not a place to recommend. read more

Making a reservation I asked for a table on the edge with a view and I was so glad I did because we were able to sit on the balcony over looking downtown Walnut Creek. While the service was sometime slow (but hey it's Friday night??) the food was truly amazing with the lamb meatballs, spicy edamame, mussels and frites, heirloom tomatoes salads and a beets and cheese salad. All I can say is wow! We decided to celebrate my moms bday dinner here last night and had one of the best dining experiences. From the appetizers then the main course to the deserts everything was prepared amazing. The presentation of each plate was something you'd see in a food magazine. A special shout out to our waiter Sebastian who made sure we didn't have to ask for anything his timing was precise on refills and always had clean utensils as well as fresh plates placed in front of us. Id also like to recognize Betty (manager) for setting up the table and private room which over looked downtown Walnut Creek. She provided a warm atmosphere with incredible view please make sure you contact her to book your next event at there location. Lastly all the compliments to Chef Noah his preparation and plating was beyond perfect as you can see in the pictures attached. The flavors of each dish made your mouth water and could not help yourself but to get a second serving. I think this place is popular because it's the only rooftop bar around. A reservation is suggested, but my partner and I were able to get table right away without a reservation when we went. The servers were attentive. The vegan options are almost nonexistent. We just ordered edamame and drinks. The drinks were good, but a little over priced. Enjoyed a night out for a friend's birthday. Staff were somewhat attentive. We ordered a bunch of food to share amongst my group of 12. The food was very flavorful but we overheard another group next to us say the pizza downstairs would have been worth it. Cons: Bathroom location- being it on the second floor, some of us decided to just wait it out until the end of dinner. Not convenient but at least there was a bathroom to go to. (Surely I know it wasn't the restaurants fault, as I was told in a private message from them) Charge to cut the birthday cake (restaurant sent me a private message indicating that most restaurants do this just like a corkage fee) people don't be fooled by their friendlyness! Being relatively newer to the East Bay, I don't frequent Walnut Creek much so I'm not familiar with a ton of other places in the area. I had heard of the Rooftop recently so decided to try it out. The place is gorgeously laid out. Bright, open, airy. The building has a nice "vintage"/"rustic" feel to it for lack of a better word, but the insides really beautifully offset that. The food is pretty New American/gastropub-ish. Plenty of meat, fish, etc, but as a vegetarian also had MORE than enough options. For a hearty veg option try the rizottata. Lots of "small plates" but really everything there is shareable. Pricing is absolutely reasonable for both the quality and quantity of food. The drinks were creative and very well done also. The patio is small. Only a few larger 6 people tables. We grabbed a spot outside and had to share the table but the weather and view was worth it. The staff is warm and welcoming. My friend mentioned her birthday in passing and within a few minutes of sitting three people walked by saying Happy Birthday. I'd absolutely come back and would highly recommend it. read more
