    French onion sandwich
    Emily C.

One of the best dining experiences I've had in York! The French onion soup sandwich is one of the best things I've ever tasted! Also - amazing fries with it. My fiancé got the orange glazed chicken which was just as good. The staff were also amazing, and we had a great waitress! For our appetizer we had the cheese fondue, which was great as well. It felt upscale, but the prices were super affordable and reasonable. It was also casual, which we loved!

Fantastic service as always, come here pretty often and it's always the best. I'll always recommend this restaurant to friends.

Delicious experience. Outdoor seating was nice surrounded by flowers and a water feature made a very relaxing spot. Wednesday night is steamer night $8 and wing night $8 per pound. My friends got them. I tried both and very good. Wings had good flavor, plenty of meat, easy to chew. I chose the honey sriracha chicken bites, they were so good. Just enough sweet/hot. I got a side of grilled asparagus. Yummy. For dessert, I got the honey ricotta cheese cake which was a special dessert for Honey Week. It was rich and creamy. Melted in my mouth. Great relaxing dining experience. Aaron out waiter was great.

I think this is the most underappreciated restaurant in York. Always great food and service. The menu items are always imaginative.

The event planner was great to work. She had wonderful suggestions on menu & set up. We chose a brunch buffet & added some of their appetizers & fresh fruit. We had rave reviews from all who attended on the venue, staff & food. We will continue to dine here and would highly recommend the space upstairs for private events. We made reservations as we know it gets rather busy. Reservations are highly suggested for Friday / Saturday nights. Large parking area outback the whole is packed full, which is generally a good sign in a restaurant. We arrived and we're promptly seated and our waiter arrived to take our drink order shortly thereafter. I had a desert bloom and Bestie had a sangria, rum punch concoction. Desert bloom was delicious. Nice change for a margarita. For apps, I had the French onion soup, which was absolutely delicious perfectly caramelized, onions, nice baguette plenty of cheese. Topped with a crispy onion broth was flavorful. She had the burrata which was a meal in it of itself came in a large salad plate with dressed leaves and strawberries, and a side of crusty bread. For means I got the cioppino and she had the angel hair with shrimp. The cioppino came with a wonderful large slice of grilled bread with an Uni butter, which was absolutely delicious. The broth of that stew was absolutely AMAZING. So rich and flavorful I could've died on that alone. It was full of seafood..... crab, claws, shrimp mussels, fish it was more than enough for two meals. Crab claws were great. The one thing I didn't like. I expected crab claws, and even muscles in the shell. But the tails on the shrimp is frustrating for me, in any dish like that, but I survived lol. Bestie was smarter than me and asked if the shrimp and her dish came with tails on, they did. She then asked if they would remove the tails which the waiter said yes they would so she requested and they obliged. Even though we were stuffed, we want to try some dessert. She had the dark side of the moon cake, and I had the Greek Panna cotta. Both were absolutely delicious. The cake was rich chocolatey just everything you would expect from an overindulge dessert. The Panna cotta was absolutely the perfect ending to the meal. It was covered with a sour cherries and small almond cookies - wonderful, flavor profile - worked so well together. Service was friendly. Price point was amazing. My meal with a drink before tip was $58. For the quality and amount of food I had and considering the giant bowl of seafood stew it was a great value. First post is on our regular rotation for Friday night dinners I haven't tried their brunch. But if you haven't tried The First Post and are looking for something not necessarily upscale, but also not of the Chili's Applebee's vein, consider giving them a try out in East York.

We paid to park right next to the restaurant - approx $8 for 2 hours. We had reservations and would suggest same for anyone having dinner. Wait staff was great. Was knowledgeable about the menu. Could talk about the dishes giving information based on her actually tasting the dishes - which we appreciate. They were attentive but not annoying. Didn't get a pic of our appetizer - deep fried brie- two wedges served with apricot jelly, pistachio dust and dressed leaves. It was so delicious. Crispy outside with melty cheesy goodness inside. Paired with the jelly and leaves it was absolutely delicious. Perfect appetizer. Our drink were great. The amethyst daiquiri was definitely rum forward but the flavors of the butterfly pea flower syrup, lemongrass infused pisco and lemon juice created this wonderfully crisp drink. The lavender dream was equally refreshing. I'm not a huge fan of the taste of lavender but the combination of faber vanilla vodka, lavender simple, lemon juice, and ginger beer created a refreshing well balanced cocktail. Our mains were delicious. My NY strip was a medium rare. It was so delicious. The steak did have gristled ends on one entire side which wasn't appetizing but otherwise was a good cut. The shrimp were wonderful. Just a subtle pinch of red pepper to add heat but it did not overpower the sweetness of the shrimp. The cafe de paris butter was rich and flavorful. Combine with the arugula salad it was divine. The jalapeño mopping bread was a dense cornbread like addition but honestly it was out of place in the flavor profile of the rest of the meal - a rustic, crusty bread would have been better in my opinion. Bestie had the Seared Duck Breast with a black pudding croquette, charred bok choy, and blackberry chambord reduction. Was her first time having duck. She absolutely enjoyed it. The black pudding croquette was delicious and rich. She really enjoyed the dish and the flavor combinations. The strawberry pavlova was huge. The meringue was deliciously delicate and paired beautifully with the strawberries and fresh whipped cream. Bestie also had a caramel affogato. She said it was very deliciously. She actually dipped some of the meringue into it and said it was very tasty. Lol. They do have a bar area with seating . There is an outdoor seating area as well. We opted for inside knowing how busy N. George St. is around rush-hour with the street noise. But it was a lovely night out and there were many couples outside. The lighting in the restaurant was perfect wasn't too dim, but wasn't harsh and bright. Service was timed perfectly. Overall, it was a really nice experience. Price point was what I would expect for the quality. Great place for a date or a special occasion or just to treat yourself.

You see, back in 17th century England, private houses would open their homes to the public and sell food and beer. Hence, public house. Over time, they dropped the "lic house" and just called them pubs. Because you never dropped the "lic house" makes me think that you haven't evolved like you should have. And frankly, your food is proof. In fact, it even made me nostalgic. But not in the way you might think. You see, I loved making fun food concoctions when I was a kid. My sister and I would watch this corny show called "Zoom" on Maryland public television, where the kid hosts would make recipes sent in from all over the country. We'd make homemade peanut butter cups using Jif and semisweet chocolate chips. Or weird sandwich combinations like pickles and potato chips and cheese and jelly. The seafood egg rolls weren't the worst part of my meal, but they were definitely sophomoric--as if a kid chef-in-training was asked to whip something up from Chinese food leftovers. Seafood should never taste fishy, yet these did. One bite hit me like something that had been sitting a little too long above the waterline. Not to mention, they were laying on a greasy glob of some mayonnaise accompaniment disguised as a fancy garnish you'd see on MasterChef. One word: Ick. The ahi tacos. Oh boy. My mind fills with seawater the moment I think of them because they tasted as if they had been fished right out of the ocean and then placed on my plate. They were wet. Soaked. Drenched. The gelatinous seaweed clump on each taco wasn't culinary-forward, just unappetizing. I took one bite and wished I could spit it back out, but I reluctantly swallowed it. My esophagus is now aquaphobic thanks to you. The moment the coconut jasmine rice hit my mouth, my tastebuds took the red eye to the coconut tree haven of the Maldives. Normally, this wouldn't be a bad thing, but the rice and coconut had no cohesion. It tasted like my younger self dumping a handful of shredded coconut--the sweetened kind my mom kept in the pantry for the wool on her Easter-shaped lamb cake--into a cup of microwaveable rice. The only redeeming aspect of our meal was your kind, charismatic waiter. He was lovely in every way--attentive, sweet, and helpful. He would have been an incredible host on "Zoom." If only his personality made the food taste better. For your sake, I hope you learn to evolve your kitchen's offerings beyond the amateurish trio I experienced. If not, your restaurant's bones may end up fossilized alongside every other place that couldn't adapt.

We went for lunch and it was not very busy so that was nice. We asked if we could eat outside and we were able to nab a seat there. We were seated a high table which was cool because we had a clear view of the street but was able to maintain staying in our little food bubble. When it came to order, we ended up ordering the Loaded Nachos for an appetizer and I ordered the Chicken Chesapeake with a baked potato and onion rings. I did order a drink but for the life of me, I can't remember which one. Please blame my foodie mind! (Haha!) The Loaded Nachos were good filled with white cheddar cheese sauce, tomato, jalapeno, black beans salsa, sour cream and chicken. It was good and the chicken was nicely seasoned and succulent. It was not chewy which is sometimes how chicken or any meat can be especially, when added to an appetizer like nachos. Unfortunately, I think that my biggest disappointment of this lunch was the Chicken Chesapeake. It came with a chicken breast, a 5 oz jumbo lump crab cake and mornay sauce. The chicken breast was just okay, it tasted bland as I think that maybe a little bit of salt and pepper could have helped. The jumbo lump crab cake was....okay, it was topped with the mornay sauce that was very tasty but the crab cake itself just fell apart. I didn't feel as though there was any structure to it and that with the amount of sauce on the crab cake and then the crab cake being too tender that it just falls apart...it wasn't a good mix. It felt like the crab cake was swimming in the sauce at the end, unfortunately. The mornay sauce tasted great with the mixture of cheeses so I really appreciated that. Besides the mornay sauce, the onion rings were another big favorite of mine. They were perfectly seasoned and crispy. I really liked the batter on the onion rings as I think it was executed perfectly and they helped to save the rest of the dish. Altogether, I'd enjoyed my experience at this restaurant. While one dish was lacking, the appetizer and my drink weren't. The prices were alright, a little steep but nothing I couldn't handle. The customer service was also really good as our waiter was kind and helped us with whatever we needed. If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely come back again to try other things off the menu.
