We had a wonderful time having (Father's Day) Sunday Brunch at Roost. The food was on point! Love the balance of breakfast, lunch, fresh salad and yummy desserts they have! Make sure you ask for Felise as your server. She will take great care of you and your party. Felise was extra helpful in bringing out the Chef to help us with our daughter who is on a restricted diet which I will call Vegan-Gluten Free to keep it "simple". The chef helped us to understand what she could eat on the buffet and was very accommodating in providing a specially prepped item to help our daughter enjoy the occasion. I will preface this review with a disclaimer that I didn't actually eat here, but it wasn't for lack of effort. After looking at the menu online it looked good so we decided to go. We were seated quickly and then sat and witnessed a totally unmitigated disaster. 20 minutes later, our server (who appeared to be the only server working) comes over and explains that they only have a buffet on the weekend despite the fact that we saw a menu online. Came here to have a patio lunch a year ago, and what I remembered was that the food was tasty, but the service poor. When we arrived today I mentioned this to the lackluster host and said that I hoped the service would be better. He was completely unconcerned. At table, it took 5 min. for us to be acknowledged and served water, and another 5 to receive our drinks. The server's tone, rather than naturally friendly, was as smarmy as a charlatain's. If you want a tasty lunch on a nice deck overlooking the action on Main St., aren't in a hurry and have low service expectations, this is your spot. This is a great spot in downtown. Good location and really delicious food. I have only been here for the Sunday Brunch, so that is all I can really comment on food-wise. Our party of 2 arrived Sunday around 11:30 and were promptly seated in the patio area (which is very well covered and heated during the cooler months. Our server brought us over menus and explained the all you can eat lunch buffet and the bloody mary/mimosa bar. We both got the brunch buffet and a mimosa. The buffet also comes with a drink (coffee, juice, soda) but is on the pricier end, $20 per person. The brunch spread they have is incredible. You can also place an order for a made to order omlett with tons of choices to make it your own. The omelet however was my least favorite thing I had. The buffet has a lunch side, a breakfast side, and a salad/fruit station. The lunch side had pulled pork, beans, collards, shrimp cocktail, green beans, and ham. The shrimp cocktail was so generous and probably my favorite part of the lunch side. The breakfast side had biscuits and gravy, diced breakfast potatos, bacon, grits, oatmeal, and scrambled eggs. The dessert station was truly the star of the show. I usually do not get desert, but I heard from one of the servers that everything is made from scratch and she is constantly baking in the back. The pecan pie was just amazing. It was not overly sweet and you could definetly tell it was homemade! (They also serve house made whipped cream and chocolate whipped cream!!!) Visited Roost on Saturday night when main was bustling about the Final Four. The restaurant space is very pretty and HUGE! We really loved the idea of farm to table and were very excited about the overall concept and menu. We sat at a nice table on the patio and immediately things went wrong. First, it took 20 minutes for someone to come by and take our drink orders. The patio area seemed very short on service for such a busy night as it became evident that we were not the only table short of service. When our server finally came by, we ordered drinks and apps. They did not have any bread or crackers at the table - which would have been fine if we did not have to wait another 15 just to get the drinks we ordered. The apps finally came and the server took our order. We ordered the Korean Chicken wings - nice and spicy, but cold; and the Mussels. The Mussels & Clams where delicious and served in a large bowl with two slices of Crostini for dipping in the broth (the best part). We immediately realized that 2 little pieces of bread would not be enough for a large bowl of Mussels for a party of 4 so we ordered more bread. The bread never came, and so our yummy warm bowl of broth sat there getting ice cold. For the main course we ordered the cobblestone roasted chicken, flatbread for the vegetarian, and pork chop. The dark meat chicken was COMPLETELY over cooked. I have never had dark meat chicken that was so tough and dry. If you are going to have a farm to table concept, and the chicken was raised humanely, why would you disrespect that bird and overcook it like that? I suspect it was sitting under the heat lamp next to the poor pork chop for a LOOONG time as both plates were scorching hot when they arrived to the table. We could not even touch them to position them in front of us. The greens on both dishes were tasty, but very chewy. The tomato mozzarella flatbread got good reviews. We returned the chicken and were offered dessert. We ordered two for the table - Tennessee Mud & Cheesecake. Well that did it for us, the Mud came in a canning jar - but was coated with an abundance of dry chocholate crumbs and the mouse seriously lacked chocolate flavor. The cheesecake came out drizzled with some kind of fruit sauce and honeycomb on top. The fruit sauce destroyed the already bland cheesecake. The flavor was off-putting and unidentifiable. They best part was the honeycomb. Really wanted to like Roost simply on the concept, but unfortunately it turned out to be a very pricey disappointment with a very short-handed waitstaff. We went to this restaurant excited to be a part of the Thursday "downtown alive" music festival. They have a patio that directly faces the music that places on the hyatt courtyard so we naturally chose this restaurant and asked the hostess if we could sit outside. We ordered the appetizer and a few drinks thinking that we were going to lounge and enjoy the view. When we opted to not order anymore since we had already ate dinner, the waiter decided to tell us that there is a minimum of $25/person at the patio. He pointed at a small dessert card holder on the table that said "minimum $25/person". Since I never look at this card unless I am looking for dessert/alcohol special, I had missed this information. However, this information was not given to us when we were seated at the patio by the hostess/host. The waiter only told us this information after we had already ordered food/drinks. We were a little bothered that we were not informed of this from the beginning. But in good spirit and in an attempt to not ruin our evening, we ordered more food. Needless to say it was quite difficult to meet the $25 per person but we tried our best. And while sitting there, we noticed that two other patio tables that were next to us were eventually seated by several people, and only after ordering appetizers/drinks, the patrons are told that there was a $25 minimum per person. We thought this was only a mistake made at our table, but it seemed like it was a continual error that occurred at every table. It seemed quite dishonest on the restaurant's part. We watched as a table of 6 walked way after being seated since the hostess did not tell them before sitting down. Our food came out and we tried to enjoy the food. The Korean chicken wings were not so great. The wings were not tangy or spicy, and lacked any flavors that I would consider korean (I am actually korean hahah). and the flatbread pizza with goat cheese was quite dry. But again, we tried to enjoy the food/beer as much as possible. But the final straw was the piece of long blonde hair that was pulled out from the flatbread pizza. My boyfriend then decided to talk to the manager and discuss with him about their service/food. The manager unfortunately did not seem apologetic about the patio rule that they failed to mention to any of the guests or the food that had a piece of hair in it. Needless to say, our night was almost ruined by this restaurant that has a monopoly over the courtyard since it directly faces the live music on Thursday. They did not seem to care about their horrible service or food, probably due to the constant influx of customers they are most likely to get due to their optimal location. However, it was the first and last time I will ever eat at that restaurant, and I will advise all of my friends/acquaintances to avoid this place at all cost if they want to actually have a good time without dishonesty/bad food. I have no doubt that the place will go out of business soon with their current service. read more

Okay, consider this a review about professionalism and great service, more than anything else. Mrs. Nefarious and I stopped in here on a busy weekend recently for a quick drink and a snack. The place was busy, but not overflowing, so we took a comfortable seat at the bar. Had some good drinks and ordered some snacks. So, as it turns out, then there was a Problem with one of the snacks. Not the fault of the server, and not something the likes of which I haven't seen in my years of eating out. I brought The Problem to the attention to the bar staff, who despite being busy, realized that The Problem was not cool, and redirected their attention to us. Things were fixed immediately, apologies were given without descending into obsequiousness, and the manager paid us a calm, professional visit right away. Drinks and snacks were comped, and we left knowing that when we were ready to come back for a full meal, we would have no reservations. So, looking forward to a return visit. read more

Which was understandable but if the biscuits are so hard you struggle to rip it apart, just take them off the buffet... and my server doesn't know the meaning of pre-bussing. Everything took forever, which is never good when you are dining with hungry little ones. And it couldn't have been because the place was busy ... there was no one there! Server delivered tea but didn't bring the mug. Didn't come back to refill coffee. My girlfriend ordered eggs with avocado, tomato, toast, and a little cheese on the eggs. I got the curry veggie dish, with coconut milk and added shrimp. It was very sweet, and I tasted no curry. I've never had coconut milk that sweet. I couldn't finish it, and sent it back. I then ordered the roost burger. It too was served with a sweet Russian dressing and tomato bacon jam...even more sweet. Burger was extremely dry. My spouse tried the meatloaf. It was served with sweet bacon jam on top. My son had the pulled pork Sammy. You guessed it. Heavy heavy, sweet BBQ sauce, a top. The chicken was good and the fries were delicious. Service was great. I loved the modern ambience, especially the wine cellar (oh-lala). My mother requested to dine here since it was her birthday. Our server, Phil (I think that was his name) was very professional, polite, and even took time to give food recommendation based on my parents dietary restrictions. Since they are vegetarians, my mother had the linguini and my father had the mushroom ravioli. I had the daily special. That day it was tuna, brussel sprouts, and mashed potatoes. I did not particularly like the tuna, but the side dishes and pasta were divine. The food was amazing and the customer service was top notch. Had lunch here with family and friends. Our table of 9 was seated outside, under cover. Although it was hot today, outside was very pleasant with a nice breeze, shade, and a waterfall next to us. We tried a variety of items and everything was good. My wife and daughter had the salad bar, I had a shrimp po boy with salad, and my son had a cheeseburger and fries. Everything was well cooked with a nice presentation and ample portion sizes. The salad bar had plenty of choices and also included soup and flatbread pizza. For dessert, we shared a Reese Cup brownie with vanilla ice cream. The waitress said one dessert would easily feed four and she was right. First time I have tried this restaurant. Slow lunch crowd the day I was their. I was not overly impressed with the menu. It lacked any excitement or anyway of making it standout. The fella and I went to Roost for breakfast on a Sunday morning and sat on the atrium side. The place itself seemed huge - the atrium was bright and airy with windows everywhere, and the other side seemed a little more sleek and sexy. They were offering a $16 breakfast buffet, which looked good, but neither of us was hungry enough for that, so we ordered off the menu - yogurt parfait for me and two cage free eggs for the fella. Mine was fine (pretty hard to mess up yogurt and fruit), but the fella's came without the potato and caramelized onion hash listed on the menu, and he was too nice to say anything... and then it wound up being just okay. The Roost is the hotel restaurant for the Hyatt Regency. The layout of the restaurant is both inviting and accommodating. Weather permitting you can dine out, if the weather is a little off the enclosed patio is a nice option and if you would like a little more formal dine the restaurant can offer that as well. The lunch salad bar is very good and soups offered were excellent. The flat bread pizza is good but won't keep you coming back for more. The menu has some very good offerings.
