First off, i inquired about a price for repair on a gas line. I was messaged back that i would receive a call back to schedule an appointment. Being that it was 5pm or so i figured the appt would be next day. Next thing i know, tgeres a guy on the way at around 7pm. Im like, wheres tge call for the appt.? Anyhiw, guy shiws up, i explain the situation and starts telling about this could be thousands of dollars with no gaurantee that the problem wont happen again later. So he recommends that his expert comes out with specialized equipment to try and pinpoint the oroblem. He tgen says that most pekple just replace the whole system of pipes. He already told me a repair would be in the thousands, so i was not feeling this connection. I canceled the following morning and was able to repair the oroblem for 650 dollars. A far cry from thousands. Problem today is these repair guys get paid on commission for upselling to a total redo, when a relatively simple fix was all that was needed. Called for clogged kitchen sink. Rooter Hero came out. They came out, tried unclogging drain for 10 minutes. They went under the house for 1 hour. He told me that my pipes were old and needed replacement and handed me a written estimate to replace water pipes. I asked him what water pipes had to do with a clogged drain pipe. He looked shocked that I asked him a reasonable question. He never answered me. He charged me 300.00 and did nothing. This is the most unprofessional outfit I have ever dealt with. We had $31,000 of work done and were given a 10year warranty if ANYTHING went wrong. Once problems stared to happen, we could not get anyone on the phone or to return our messages. Our toiles backed up and they did not care one bit!!! Diego Ruiz was in charge of the project. He would simply not show up on days or times her promised. When we would try to contact him, he would get upset. Again, he would promise to call us back or to stop by and then he would simply ignore us. They had our money and now they did not want to be bothered. Working with my husband isn't easy, nor is managing a project built on two sloped lots. We recently had to replace a 75-foot pipe, which required digging five 8-foot deep holes that wound through a maze of concrete driveway, decking, and landscaping. There were literal and figurative twists and turns--this was no straightforward job. It was intricate and disruptive, leaving us without water or working plumbing for 3 to 4 days. That said, aside from one significant mistake (because miscommunication happens), 98% of the work done by this company was excellent, and we're genuinely grateful. They are costly because that's the going rate for labor and materials. There are quick fixes in plumbing, but as we learned, investing in the more expensive, advanced technology was worth it. When we eventually sell the house, we'll have fully permitted plumbing work that was done right. Hopefully inspection passes with the good old City of Oakland ;-) read more

My elderly mother called this company for a clogged kitchen sink and mentioned that her garbage disposal was leaking. They replaced the disposal and pipes under the sink and charged her $1,700. They attempted to snake the line for only a few minutes before saying it could not be cleared. Another worker went under the house and told her the pipes needed to be replaced and gave an estimate of $10,000. After they left, the drain was completely clogged and worse than before. I advised my mother to cancel that work. The next day, we hired a different plumber who snaked the same line for about three hours and fully cleared the clog for $225. Based on this experience and the huge difference in diagnosis and price, I would not recommend this business to anyone. read more

The Rooter Hero office overseeing the projects outlined below was shown in the related contract with a Concord, CA address. The very expensive primary work I describe here was undertaken and completed by Rooter Hero in the first part of January, 2026. Caveat emptor: it's still true.... Buyer beware.... My initial experience -- for a needed late-night, December 20th auger-snaking of a clogged sewer main (a.k.a. "sewer lateral") from house to street (with family guests staying in our house) -- was satisfactory. Rooter Hero's technician visited for that task at around 1:30 AM or so. Some other companies that advertised "24/7" assistance turned out only to have someone answering the phone in the early AM, able then only to schedule a service visit in the next day or two. I included a camera scoping of the line by the Rooter Hero representative (at agreed-upon extra cost). The technician was also a larger-job estimator, as it happened. Since the sewer main was an ancient vitrified clay pipe line that showed about 5 linear feet of root intrusion (as I saw myself in the camera run), and likely soon to develop another blockage, I took a quote for trenchless replacement of that line, from the cleanout at the house out to the community sewer main in the middle of the street. The estimate, at a little over $26,000, seemed very high to me. But the street itself would need deep holes dug (later to be filled, with new pavement on top) for the new pipe connection, with traffic control etc. And a quick second estimate (from another heavily advertised firm) specified similar cost (once it's open-ended items were priced). So it seemed that perhaps the high project cost might "ball-park" as sort of reasonable. The Rooter Hero tech/estimator also suggested a look under the house, at general outflow-pipe condition there. I already knew myself of some problems under the house. Replacement of all that piping (much of it galvanized) with slightly larger-diameter ABS was estimated by the Rooter Hero rep to cost about $25,000. Due to some urgency factors in the background, I agreed to proceed with both jobs (total cost $51,500), and they were completed. Toilets and sink vanities had to be removed temporarily and were then replaced. That part of the job unfortunately left us with a piece of bathroom tile shattered and a corner molding cracked. Repairs were made, though I will now finish those properly as time allows. I noticed subsequently that a similar trenchless sewer main replacement had been done further along the street, by a different company. Checking with the owner there for what was clearly a longer replacement-pipe line (and with a needed curve to the right) I found that his trenchless job cost was "about $11,000" (vs. my roughly $26,000), completed by a much smaller company in his case. To all external appearances -- and to the functionality satisfaction of that owner -- his job was done well. So Rooter Hero's cost for the trenchless sewer-main replacement was more than double that other one. And having seen the man-hours involved and materials used in my under-house outflow piping replacement case, I believe that job was likewise vastly overpriced. My guesses were confirmed by a small-company plumbing tech whom I called in yesterday, now several weeks later, for a separate job. Urgency conditions and convenience, and a mistaken presumption on my part that small companies might not be able to accomplish at least the trenchless replacement part of my job satisfactorily, led to a hurried decision and many thousands of extra dollars spent that I could likely have saved. Hopefully, my experience can help others avoid the same sky-high cost problem for necessary plumbing work. If possible and if your timing situation permits: before agreeing to a major plumbing repair or replacement to be done by Rooter Hero (or another one of the other heavily advertised "bigs"): get estimates from at least one or two of the small local companies. At least some of them are surprisingly competent -- and conscientiously fair-priced besides, for even major jobs. And if that is your result, be sure to save the business card for your small-company plumber for any future work. read more
