Formerly the best donut shop around. Ever since Jason (owner/mgr) disappeared this place resembles an army whose commander has been shot...chaos and disarray. The breakfast burritos are terrific. The donuts are great. I like the tuna melt with grilled onions and avocado on squaw. Nowadays the wait for your food is too long and the customers just don't seem to understand how to line up. Lots of people cutting in front and no direction of traffic flow leads to confusion. The prices are higher than they should be now. Bottom line: still a solid place to get breakfast on the fly which will likely send you to a cardiologist but, it's very different without the great customer service and finely tuned machine feel it had under Jason's steering. read more

Everyone who's anyone around north San Clemente is a customer of Rose's. Come for the donuts, but stay for the brreakfast sandwiches. Youy may wait a few extra minutes, but it's worth it. Have a fresh squeezed OJ with your order, and come on back for lunch as so many do. You can split your order with a friend - they are not shy on portions. I just tried Rose's on the recommendation of my co-workers. I'm an instant fan. I got a sandwich special, which includes a sandwich, side, and drink. You can get fries, potato salad, or chips. If those don't appeal to you, there are other options you can upgrade for that cost a little extra. Those include sweet potato fries, onion rings, seasoned fries, or even fried zucchini. I opted for the potato salad, and was expecting the typical little cup of potato salad. Ohhh no. You get a heaping scoop of it on a bed of lettuce, and it looks very freshly handmade. So delicious. My sandwich choice was tuna. They listened to me when I said only lightly toasted bread, which is SO refreshing. I don't want it CRUNCHY I just want it to not fall apart. They are very very generous with the sandwiches. There was just gobs of tuna on it, fresh tomatoes and onions, and yummy pickles. The tuna is kind of a sweet-relishy style that I usually don't like, but this was good. They also include cheddar cheese, mayo, and lettuce. I pulled the lettuce out because I'm a weirdo, but it looked crisp/fresh/etc for those who are into that sorta thing. Overall I'm really stoked on Rose's so far. Next time I'll go for a half sandwich, as this was too much food. But hey, I have lunch for tomorrow now! Sweet! Now that's value. $8 and change for 2 lunches? I'm down. Everyone in the place was so nice and friendly, and my food was ready fast. Huge bonus points since when you're on your lunch break you do not want to spend the whole time waiting for your food. We always come here for Texas donuts (XL size) to celebrate little things with kids. Weekends are pretty crowded in the first part of the day, you would need to wait to place and get your order. We also grab sandwiches with our donuts to save a trip somewhere else. The sandwiches are just okay, I would say 3.5 stars and more expensive than you would expect of a donut shop. Donuts are good (like 4 stars), but Texas donuts make this place special (at least for me). Service is great and you can always call to place an order or place a hold for a big donut . Portions are HUGE, fries are well done (as in both crispy and done well) and the service is always prompt and very friendly. What a fun and nice place. With a sign out front like Donuts and Burgers you know that Rose's is serving up some of the best american comfort food that can come out of a cafe. On a weekday morning to see the sheer volume of people in the tiny cafe showed how loyal people are to Rose's. CHP was there, pregnant moms were there, families were there, local employees were there, it was like a San Clemente reunion. While the donuts looked and smelled delicious we were there for the breakfast burrito. A great soft flour tortilla with egg, cheese, bacon and....wait for it....a whole hashbrown in the center. It was delicious and something I have been thinking about ever since we ate it. That hashbrown still stands out like a golden brown nugget of goodness stuffed right in the middle of all of my favorite breakfast things. Rose's is truly down home and you will become a local here pretty quick! read more

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon when the bf and I headed in here after a night of debauchery in Newport Beach. Why is it when you've spent a night punishing your body with alcohol all you want the next day is food that will continue your masochism? I got the cheeseburger, and so did the bf. It comes with fries and a soda. All for just over 14 bucks. As far as the food, it was perfect for what we wanted. The cheeseburger was delicious, but it was a frozen patty, and a little too greasy. The fries, though they had a great seasoning, were average, some had different texture than others. They have the good ice for the sodas, the Sonic ice (looks like little pellets), that's a nice plus. The staff was very nice and welcoming. I will definitely be back to try the donuts - those looked good. They also had a really awesome fruit salad at the front, but, like I said, we went for the greasy and the fatty, and we found it. Note: If you are looking for this place - the sign in the strip mall says Donuts & Burgers - NOT Rose's. Makes more sense to go here than Jack in the Box or Carl's Jr. as far as a burger goes. Since I work nearby I often put in an order, swing by moments later & am always delighted by super fresh, fiercely beach-Americana styled food. The donuts are lovely when fresh but honestly, I usually come here for breakfast or lunch! They have a bagel called the San Franciscan that is a perfect culmination of flavors -- your choice of bagel toasted with cream cheese, and generous slices of tomato and avacado (actual fresh, avacado -- not guac!) and dashed with lemon pepper. It is divine. For lunch, I've ordered everything from the wraps to the sandwiches and burgers. Personally, I'm not as into wraps, but they make an awesome BLT and burgers...I swap the fries for curly fries, it's not that much extra & they give me ranch to go with it. Heaven. The owner is super nice! I had finished paying for a whole bunch of orders under seperate transactions using cards from coworkers...and then I saw them...the cutest little Valentine donuts, all whites, pinks and red with the teeny heart sprinkles...I dunno if the estrogen-surge was apparent in my expression, but he gave me two giant donuts and some little ones for free! I was stoked. I love this place. The only thing keeping it from a 5-star is because it's so tiny, and I really love a place where I can sit down and share a meal with friends. This is a very excellent little restaurant that serves lots of delicious food. The place is a little hard to find, considering that the place is so tiny, but, again, the food that this restaurant serves is dynamite. The donuts that this restaurant serves are really sweet and tasty. The quality and freshness of the donuts are really what makes this restaurant stand out. Other menu items that I have had that this restaurant serves are the hamburger, the grilled cheese, and the blueberry croissant. All of these food items were quite delicious. For example, the grilled cheese is cooked to perfection so that when a bite is taken, it is noticeable that the bread is crispy and the cheese is all gooey on the inside. Another example would be the hamburger. The hamburger doesn't have a lot of ingredients in it, but I think that is what makes it taste so good. Stopped in yesterday around 330. I really like the new look and arrangement. Ordered a wrap, which was delicious as always, although it took over 10min to make and there was only one other customer - not sure what took so long. I would also recommend cleaning the dirty old welcome mat as it's not very welcoming, especially in contrast to the sparkling new floors and paint. We will be back next weekend, hopefully some of the kinks will be worked out. read more

Cynthia and Nicolasta always greet customers and have a good sense of customers service. The owner is very accommodating and as you can see in replies, very concerned on customer experiences. Rose Cafe is a neighborhood staple with friendly employees and a regular crowd. The menu is huge, and everything I've had has been excellent. The superstar here is the steak and egg breakfast burrito, which is hands down the best I've ever had. Their lunch selections are also solid - I had a really good tuna melt and curly fries last week. Indoor seating can be sparse (especially in the morning), but whatever inconvenience that presents is well worth enduring for the awesome food. read more
