Went up to Shasta for labor day weekend to check out Mcarthur Burney Falls and Lassen volcanic park.. Got up there Saturday afternoon check in to our motel and I say to myself I am hungry so I told my old lady to go yelp to check if there is any good eatery in Redding.she stumble on the this little nice restaurant call the rose garden and she say the pictures looks legit an good but I told her many times we check yelp for eatery in San Francisco and almost all of them was either a lie or people hasa low low expectation which I believe. well mine as well give it a try since we don't want any burger king or mcdonald bullshit.. Got to the place and there was a few tables with people eating and you know what all I see was white folks and I say to myself is going to be shity food again. but as we sit out table and I started to notice some asin folks came it and more and more people start to come in either to dine in or take out or to pick up.. wow that suprise the hell outof me and it took the two girls about 20minutes to take our order.. I guess this is a MOM and POP restaurant and these must be daughter. well to tell you the truth they work pretty good they don't stress out and give people bad attitude like the waiters in San Francisco would do when they get jam packed. This is a break down of my score for Rose Garden 2 star for service why they get extra 1 star is because they have the 2 girls has patient.they never lost their cools even when the restaurant was jamed packed,customers just kept on coming in and out.. Food wise I will give it a 4 star.....well 1st thing is the appearance of each dish we order came out to be a normal dish. looks good and smells good. I can smell the wok air when the dish arrive to the table.. and the color contrast of the dish is pretty even out. especially they are jam packed with orders to be done.this tells me the cheif takes his time to cook each dish to a perfection. unlike in San Francisco they would hurry up throw evrything in the wok and just bring out for people to eat.. It was so good that we actually went back for diner the next day..and I can tell u this restaurnt is pretty consistence with there cooking. I can say is legit Thai /vietnamese/loas cuisine.. and I can't believe that I have to go out all the way to Redding ca to have a nice lunch and diner.. For the dead beats living in San Francisco if you people want some real foods that is cook by somene call a chief than go upto Redding ca to try this place out.. otherwise u can stay with the I won't feed this shit to my dog restaurant. Came here because our usual thai restaurant was closed for renovation. Was absolutely blown away at how yummy the chicken pumpkin curry is! Also, the thai eggrolls are pretty amazing too! Every time I come here, the service is incredibly slow. Today, it took about 70 minutes to get our food, with no hint of an apology from any of the staff. A table that arrived after us got their food before us. The waitress was courteous, just incredibly busy and overworked. My friends and I went here on a Sunday afternoon. There was barely anyone there. Still, the server was not very friendly and seemed to give off the impression that what she was doing was a chore. I ordered Tofu Pad See Ew and was served the chicken. I had a meeting to get to and could not ask for them to change it because I had to eat quickly and go. When my sister asked for a to go box, the server seemed annoyed and pointed to a nearby shelf (?) with to-go boxes and lids where my sister could get some. I want to see the best in places and in people, so it's frustrating when I have to give a bad review. Family loved this place. We were traveling through when stopped here by chance. Family especially loved the pad Thai and eggplant dish. The basil rice was ok. Khan special good for the fam but too spicy for me. I liked the avocado spring rolls with peanut sauce. Yum! 4 stars for the food. For papaya salad probably one of the better places to get the Lao style then other places in Redding. The service however, need lots of help, I wish they were structured when it comes to service and promptness cause this place could be the all around best. Thought we would try a new place. Sad to say we never got to try the food because it was over 40 minutes and still no food! It was not busy and two tables came in after us and got served before us. This place is the real deal. Their Pad Thai is on point. The Pho is amazing. I will not eat Thai food anywhere else in Redding. I can honestly say that they have some of the best Thai food anywhere. Word of caution. I eat spicy stuff all the time. If you ask for it spicy here, it's going to be spicy. not like most places where they put a picture of a red chili it comes out and it's about as spicy as ice cream. I went there on a Saturday night. Mistake. The place was a bit busy but still had empty tables. The waiters were nice enough. We got drinks and order food. 45 minutes later the food came. One dish came, then another 10 minutes later. The food was very original and had pretty good taste. We would go back but maybe on a Tuesday night. It is half self-service and the regulars seem to know this. If you want another drink, get it yourself and tell the waiter. Everyone complains that the service is slow. It is. VERY SLOW. read more

I have been a regular here for the past few months and I've loved it! The drunken noodle with pork is especially my favorite. But for these past few weeks that I've been in to eat lunch during my breaks, it's been freezing. Ice box freezing. I've had to run to my car for my jacket every single time. I really enjoy the food and service here - the waitresses are quick on their feet and know when I want something. This could be a 5 star review but the ice cold temperatures in the restaurant really stop me from being able to enjoy my food. All I think about is how my fingers and face are freezing. When I complained about it to the waitresses, they told me they couldn't do anything about it. Bummer. I guess I'll just have to wait a week or 2 to see if they decide to make this place room temp again. read more

In Redding, Ca there is not a lot of food diversity. From that limited diversity there are a surprisingly large amount of Thai restaurants. Yet, even in the large amounts, not all are that great. Rose garden is great. Why you ask. Simple, their food is good, their prices are reasonable and they have bobba tea. Does it get any better than that! My hubby & I were going to order Thai Cafe one Sunday night through Entrée Express because we were feeling lazy. Well come to find out Thai cafe is closed Sunday's so we decided to try Rose Garden down the street from us. We ordered yellow curry, spring rolls, crab wontons, brown rice and drunken noodles. They told us about 20 min which was Perfect. My hubby goes to pick it up and it took a good 15-20 min longer than what they said because they were a little under staffed. I'd been here a few times when it was Kanya Garden. I liked it well enough and thought it was cheap and satisfying Thai food. Nothing amazing, but as good as a lot of other places charging more. Their pumpkin curry was excellent, the Pad Thai was pretty good too. The price is really what puts this review in context. We came in on a Friday and it was $5 Pho Friday: All Pho was $5 for any size. They also had $5 pan fried noodle plates from 2-5pm for happy hour. The menu is extensive and there are a lot of different offerings. We had gone with the intention of getting Pho, but I almost got a different dish because of all the other appealing offerings. Started off with the Avocado spring roll. It was basically a typical spring roll you get at a Vietnamese or Thai place with shrimp, but there was also avocado in it. Very generous appetizer size. Definitely the largest spring roll appetizer I've ever had. It was only $5 but it was nearly a meal in itself. The avocado was fresh and tasty. Shrimp was fine, but next time I think we'll get it sans shrimp. Came with 2 dipping sauces, the peanut one was pretty sweet. Tasted kinda like a pre-made mix with corn syrup, but whatever, it was serviceable. the other was a sweet and sour vinegar based. Pretty standard and again, serviceable. I had the large seafood Pho bowl and my fiancee had the large chicken Pho bowl. The large size is quite large. Both were chicken based broth with decent flavor, but I doubt it was authentic, boiled down bone and marrow. (Can you even do that with a chicken based Pho broth?). But hey for $5 for this huge bowl of noodles my expectations were not too high. Flavor is nothing that can't be helped with a nice load of Siracha, tamarind, hot chili and garlic sauce and some jalapeno. The seafood Pho consisted of shrimp, calamari, a little crab meat and fish balls... (start your snickering). Fish balls were not too good, I only ate one (again, your snickering, please). Calamari and crab meat wasn't exactly high quality and I was indifferent to it. The shrimp was pretty tasty and succulent. No weird after taste or freezer burn or anything. All were devained except for one. I took care of it; hey I'm not expecting perfection for a $5 bowl of Pho in Redding. The rest of the bowl was onions and garlic and noodles. Noodles were cooked maybe a tad past the point I prefer them but it wasn't stopping me from slurping them up. Fiancee's chicken Pho was better. I think the seafood flavor kinda messed mine up a little,. I'll get the beef next time, or pan fried noodles. They gave us a plate of the usual bean sprouts, basil, and cilantro, though not as plentiful as Pho Saigon does. I would prefer a little more cilantro and basil, but I'm not complaining. They don't give you fresh jalapeno. Instead they have a very diverse condiment tray to place on your table along with food. It has all the standard fair plus pickled jalapenos. These weren't Mexican style pickled jalapeno that you're used to getting at a place with a salsa bar, but more tangy and not as hot. They were a unique flavoring addition, though I'd recommend not to overdo it with them. I think there were also some crushed peanuts and some tamarind seasoning. Service was good, fast, and very friendly as it always was when it was Kanya Garden. They should probably provide more napkins for Pho eaters, as the likelihood that we're dumping Siracha and spices in the bowl and clearing up our sinuses like an Asian herbal extract is high. No matter, I got up and helped myself to to the supply cart next to the beverage fridge. Very happy with the meal when looking at the bill and the whole thing with tip was $21. We'll be back soon, and I'm probably gonna go for some pan fried noodles. 4 stars for now, but potential to be bumped up to 5 because of the generous servings, good tasting and decent quality food, and the friendly service. The person on the phone had no idea what was inside any of the dishes or the food they even carried. I would never recommend this thai place to my worst enemy. This is by far my favorite Thai in town. All the dishes are served with a good serving and diversity of vegetables (not like other places where it's all meat and sauce), and everything tastes fresh and never over cooked. The pho is fantastic - big portion with tons of toppings, and the fresh avocado spring rolls are the way to start. All the curries are incredibly flavorful with fresh veggies.
