Been coming to Rose garden for as long as I can remember but have never reviewed it. Me and my family and my church which is down the street come here all the time!! Service: great service. Always fast and friendly. The food comes out within a couple of minutes of ordering and is always hot and fresh. And the servers are always close by just in case you need anything. Food: the lunch combo is great with a good serving of food. I'm a big guy so I get worried it doesn't fill me up but it always does. The broccoli beef is amazing. The broccoli is nice and crunchy. And the fried rice is amazing. The chow mein has great flavor as well. The only reason I took a star away is the amount of veggies in the chow mein. You can see it in the 3rd picture. I separated it just to see how much. And it was a lot. Buy some may like that. My wife got the sizzling soup and according to her was amazing. Love the sound it makes when the rice gets added to the soup. Atmosphere/price: nice and quiet for lunch on a Friday but plenty of people came in. Overall nice for a quick lunch. We paid $40 for both of these plates and two cans of soda so not bad in my opinion. Overall great place and will probably go back tomorrow LOL read more

We ordered the sweet and sour chicken and the Mongolian chicken lunch plates. The Mongolian beef was good, but the sweet and sour chicken left a lot to be desired. It was fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce poured over. it didn't have bell peppers, pineapple or onion or any vegetables at all, nor was it tossed in the sauce. The ambience was fine and quiet. I finally had a chance to drop in on this joints. Expections were low. Especially after reading a few reviews. To my shock I was pleasantly surprised. The veggie entrée that I ordered had the PERFECT TOFU for me. I'm not a fan of the spongy/ chewy tofu. Or the bland no flavor kind. This tofu was, how can I put it? SILKY, it was the star of the dish. Granted the veggies were perfectly cooked. They didnt use canned mushrooms, which is a plus. My waitress was ok. Not rude, not overly pleasant. Just like someone trying to get through the day. No shade I've been there before. I will come back to see if we can recreate magic with the tofu or if it was a fluke. read more

I've been going to Rose Garden since I was a toddler. I'm so glad that they're still around even after Covid. The wonton soup is soooo good. I always get it when I come here. The basil chicken is another one of my favorites here and it's not something I can typically get at other places. I highly recommend it. LIGHTLY BREADED AND SAUCED I came here to eat because Rose Garden Restaurant is a participating diner partner as Caesars Rewards Dining. As a Caesars Rewards Member I get reward credits when I eat at restaurants that are part of Caesars Rewards Dining. The more reward credits I earn I can use to redeem to get comp or discounted stay at a Las Vegas at The Strip. The first time I came here for lunch. I ordered the Combination C Plate, which included sweet and sour pork, chow mein, and fried rice. I am a sucker for deep fried, breaded, sauced meat items. Most of the time when I eat those items I feel floated due to the heavy sauce. One thing I noticed about the sweet and sour pork was the sauce was light and runny. Also the breading was lightly coated. The combination of the two made the sweet and sour pork at Rose Garden Restaurant enjoyable without feeling queasy. The next time I came here I tried the new item - sesame chicken. The menu stated they were lightly breaded. I expected the consistency of the sauce to be similar to the sweet and sour pork I ate here. I noticed the sauce for the sesame chicken was heavier in texture than the sweet and pork. Hence the breading became too soggy. The sesame chicken was meaty I just wish the breading was crunchy. Almost three months later I came here for dinner. In fact I came here on a Wednesday in February that was not only Ash Wednesday, but also Valentines' Day. As that night was Ash Wednesday in trying to observe as a Catholic I ordered honey walnut prawns - one of the specialties at Rose Garden. The honey walnut prawns are a test to see how well a deep-fried breaded meat item is. Unlike walnut prawns I ate at other Chinese restaurants this dish is lightly sauced. You can actually see the prawns are not covered by the white, thick sauce that is associated with walnut prawns. How was the taste? I can taste the flavor of the walnuts. The breading maintained a slightly crispy texture. After eating the honey walnut prawns at Rose Garden Restaurant I didn't feel bloated as I've had with other walnut prawn dishes from other Chinese restaurants. The only mistake I made was ordering the salt pepper tofu. It was delicious, but I became a too full as I ordered two deep fried dishes that night. After three eating experiences at Rose Garden Restaurant my two favorite dishes were the sweet and sour pork and honey walnut prawns. That was because these dishes were lightly breaded and sauced. I can taste the meat along with the sauce. Also the sauces didn't smoother the dishes. If you eat a dish with a heavy sauce you get to feel bloated after eating. Maybe next time when I come to Rose Garden Restaurant I will try the sweet and sour chicken. read more

We chose the Rose Garden to host our 30-Day celebration of our newborn grandson according to our Chinese tradition. One of the owners, Susanna, who was very friendly, worked with us and proposed an appropriate and reasonable menu. She also made accommodations for arranging our 3 tables of guests to allow for more privacy. The 10 courses, including the Peking Duck, prawns with walnut, and special noodles, were well prepared, all delicious and enjoyed by our guests. The service was on point - available but not intrusive. Their chocolate-dipped fortune cookies, offered with their fried sesame balls for dessert, were also praised by our guests. If you're looking for some good Cantonese-style Chinese food, I recommend you try the Rose Garden. read more

This is a staple in Union City and has been around longer than I can imagine. Growing up lots of folks would come here and rave about their walnut shrimp. I came here on a Friday evening with some family and had dinner here. The restaurant had a handful of groups dining in, but towards the end of the meal it was quite empty. Surprised at the low traffic in this restaurant! We tried the pre-selected family dinner course since there was 6 of us, for about ~$23 a person, forgot the exact cost. Overall we had lots of food and the pricing was not bad. The family dinner came with soup, fried rice, chow mein, sweet and sour pork, appetizers of fried egg rolls and some fried thing with shrimp inside, cashew chicken, Mongolian beef, broccoli prawns, and we also ordered a side of green beans and walnut shrimp. Total came out to about ~$230 including tax/tip for 6 people, which wasn't too bad. Lots of food were had and we had leftovers for the next day. Service was fast and attentive. Everybody loved the cashew chicken and the walnut shrimp, I personally liked the broccoli prawns and Mongolian beef. I would come back here to grab their lunch specials one of these days. A small suburban neighborhood Chinese restaurant with sleek decor and sleek food. Not too crowded, though on one Saturday lunchtime the empty restaurant was invaded by an enormous party (with a reservation) just as I was about to leave. I like the lunch special menu, which gives you a choice of standard dishes in a moderate but filling quantity, and for $1 extra a choice of sides beyond steamed rice, including steamed veggies which I was very glad to have. Soup is also extra, though not really necessary, so there is a feeling of being nickled-and-dimed here, but the food and service are good. When here for dinner, I looked at the "old-time favorites" part of the menu, which did have things like egg food yung, but I ordered dumplings in beef gravy, which is a dish I'd never heard of, but it was thick and delicious as well as sleekly made, which is also true of the lunch specials. My experience is about a year old. Though it was bad enough for me to decide never to return. I understand that the Rose Garden is a Union City favorite that has served generations. I stopped by to order egg foo yung takeout. When I got home I found I had received an unrecognizable batch of harden fried noodles only ready be tossed. Portions were ridiculously small, especially considering the $20 price tag per plate. Absolutely not worth it. If you're looking for great tasting Chinese food but will be sick of major MSG then this is the place. The MSG that was put in the food made us all sick right after we ate. My husband and I did a quick dine-in as we were in the area looking for some food while getting our car worked on. There are plenty of other eateries in the area but this place seemed to stand out to us as it looks like a local favorite that has served the area for many years! (They even sell their own hot chili oil here as well as other products-- super cool!) We ordered the chow fun, Mongolian beef and chicken salad (I believe this was the only house favorite). Food was great and not that oily, which is always a win when getting Chinese food as you do get oiled out if not seasoned well. All of them were seasoned really well and served in LARGE portions! I highly suggest to just get two dishes as 3 was definitely a bit too much. It was my first time actually eating Mongolian beef that was a little spicy (I'm glad!) & really loved their chicken salad-- I really didn't expect to see so meat in the salad-- also really great! The chow fun was alright. I eventually got too full to finish it as there were WAY too many noodles but good nonetheless. This place is definitely a "sit-down" restaurant that seems to be popular at night as they offered dinner combo-priced items. I do admit that the food here was a bit expensive.. with some items being exclusive, such as the peking duck needing to be ordered 4 days in advance (which is sad for newcomers if you're a fan of the disk). We have had many family gatherings over the years here and Rose Garden will be missed by our family and I know a lot of other families. We haven't come here in a long time after moving to Southern California but it's my kids favorite for their general tso chicken and we always ask for extra sauce on the side. This is our favorite dish here. This time we also ordered a vegetarian hot and sour. This didn't taste good at all we had to send it back because it was so sour we all started coughing. The second was less sour but still too much for our taste. I group placed a takeout order on a week night for a group meeting. Our order was ready on time and everyone was quite pleased with the items. The vegetable eggrolls were fresh and crispy on the outside, generous filling on the inside. The sweet and sour sauce was yummy. The chicken fried rice was still warm and tasted fresh. The vegetable fried rice was filled with great vegetables including zucchini and asparagus as well as the traditional veggies. We also got some veggie balls that were coated with sesame seeds and dipped them in a hot mustard sauce... wow! My first time trying them, but certainly not the last. If I could give negative 10 stars I would. This place makes tasteless nasty sour dishes. We ordered a few vegetarian items off the menu and there wasn't a dish that tasted remotely good. All the vegetarian items we ordered were super sour, bland, oily, and with no vegetables whatsover in it. It just had chunks of sour tofu which tasted (prolly)and smelt like an old dirty mop cloth. Each entree is about 18-19 bucks if not more! For a strip mall, hole in the wall, and bad quality of tasteless food, this place should be a hard pass. Service sucks as well. Not sure what happened to the Rose Garden? Usually it's pretty good? Today I came for lunch, ordered the Kung Pao Chicken, with what I thought was going to be Pork Fried rice, because that's what I ordered. When my lunch arrived, I noticed that the rice had what looked like thick strands of white meat that could only be Chicken? I quickly told the waitress that I had ordered Pork Fried Rice, she immediately told me that During lunch, they only offer Chicken Fried rice, and that Pork Fried rice is only offered during dinner? I figured I'd give it a try, when I say the chicken appeared "white" I mean it looked like processed chicken meat formed into strands, the worst part was that both the rice and the Kung Pao Chicken were both bland, and the sauce the Kung Pao chicken was made with was super thick, I only saw 1 red pepper that was cut in half? I doctored it up with Hot Oil, then the waitress brought over my tab along with the half dipped Chocolate Fortune Cookie , I thought ok, they're still giving these yummy chocolate dipped cookies out! So super disappointed when I broke open the cookie and it was was stale! I told the waitress about the stale cookie, and she wasn't surprised at all she said that "allot" of people had complained about those particular cookies being stale?!!! Yet she was still giving them out!! she says, "well I guess I need to stop giving those out?!!" I was invited to Rose Garden for lunch but quickly realized my friend made a mistake. Given the vast majority of Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area, there are much better options so save your tummy and money. We started with Wor Won Ton Soup which was served to us almost cold and was very salty. Next we had fried rice which was bland but again very salty. Honey walnut shrimp had crispy walnuts but the shrimp seemed old and bathed in oil that's been sitting for days or at least the night before. Same problem with the Salt Pepper Ribs. General chicken tasted burnt and drenched in sauce. Fish fillet and long beans & beef was actually ok and the most edible among the dishes. The waitress seemed nice and checked on us. This last point is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1 star. read more

Atmosphere is very clean and at the front of the shop, it displays with very decorative merchandize for purchases, with the yelp checked in, you can choose a horoscope mug, but the server told us they were sold out; however, there were plenty of mugs for sale. Order the pan fried noodles, i took few bites that I no longer could eat more as it was extremely salty soaked with oyster sauce and salt. I have to sent it back. A bit disappointing. read more

We ordered the Rose Garden Chow Fun and a combo meal. The price was fair but the food was really salty. Their crab rangoons were sour. I'm guessing the cream cheese wasn't so good. The service is not the best but not the worst. After the food came out they pretty much left us alone until we asked for the bill. The restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday. After landing in Oakland we took to Yelp to find a new Chinese restaurant near home that was still open pass 8pm, plus my mom recommended this place since she and my dad had a nice recent experience. When we walked in there was a couple sitting at a table nearby; the restaurant was quiet but there were a handful of people coming in for take-out. As soon as we sat down, our server, who was super attentive with a ton of energy took our drink order and offered for us to order the sizzling rice soup as our appetizer. Shortly there after she came back to take our dinner order. For dinner we tried the following items (family style servings): 1) Green Beans with Beef: 4 stars, this dish consisted of exactly what's it's called, pieces of crunchy green beans and cubed pieces of tender beef. Order this! 2) Honey Walnut Prawns: 4 stars, I love when I order this dish and the prawns are crispy and crunchy upon the first bite. Nothing grinds my tires more, when you bite into a soggy prawn. This dish is meant to be crispy and sweet all at the same time. 3) Combination Chow Fun: 2-3 stars, unfortunately this dish was salty to me- even adding chili sauce and lemon to counteract the strong salty flavor, it still lingered within. I would skip this... 4) sizzling rice soup: 4 stars, this soup is pretty good, filled with tons of veggies and chicken! Good flavor.
