It's as if my Jeep knows the way to Rosie's smokehouse , I have a 12 minute drive from Cerro and I could smell the BBQ coming into Questa. Rosie's smokehouse is the BBQ oasis North of Taos , west of Red River and south of the Colorado state line. Rosie's is worth the drive . We ordered take-out of the smoked sausage and the full Rack of ribs. The ribs were mouthwatering , perfectly smoked and fall food the bone tender. I slathered on one of each BBQ sauces as I went total carnivore on today's meal. Each bite a savory thick meaty bite. The sausage perfectly smokes as well and went well with the assorted sauces packed as well. I'd say if you're looking for some mouthwatering BBQ it's worth the trip from Taos or Redriver. There are a vast variety of full combo plates, sandwiches and delicious deserts, mouth watering again. The Owner Rosie was welcoming into her neat, spacious and clean establishment. Also a bonus is the servers Katy and Arden , the most pleasant ladies East of the Rio Grande. Lunch & Dinner order in or order Takeout for your best experience. Put Rosie's Diner on your Google Maps and Enjoy !!

It was about a 15 minute wait to get a table on a very busy Saturday afternoon. I am bumping up my review since it was a dog-friendly restaurant. Our server, Arthur, graciously brought me more water for my dog and offered me a bowl even though I already had both. For starters I had a Whiskey Smash ($14.75). I enjoyed it. I sampled a taste from my brother's beer flight ($18). My mom's Desperado Mexi Lager also. They were mostly enjoyable. Red apple cider was probably something I would have on the front porch. For lunch I had the BBQ brisket sandwich ($12.50) with fries, pickles, and onions. They did not skimp on the meat. There was BBQ at the table which I added because the brisket was a bit flavorless. I chuckled when our server brought the mac and cheese out to my ultra picky nieces. He stated to my sister-in-law that it was in fact the Kraft-style mac, but it wasn't. I mean maybe he should learn what that means first of all. But second... Can you believe those kids are so picky that they didn't eat a single bite? Eight dollars per bowl with a side. Wow. My kids would starve the rest of the afternoon if their food smelled and tasted half way decent. Lol. I can almost hear the mutterings at my parenting style. Hey at least I drank my overpriced whiskey cocktail. Because our party was so large, automatic gratuity of 18% was added to our ticket. The women's restroom was small and mostly clean, but awkward entering and exiting with other women and girls crammed inside. I did not like how tables in our area were left untouched long after other patrons left. If I had my choice, I would probably opt for an alternative place next time. I was not that impressed by the staff's overall indifference to all the patrons. RATING BREAKDOWN (3 stars overall, bumped up because they were dog-friendly!) The fries were crispy and I really liked the "spicy" barbecue sauce. The service left a lot to be desired. When our food came out, something was missing from every plate. The runner seemed confused and lost when we asked about our remaining sides. The waiter had to ask someone if they had to-go cups for my 8 year old and the runners had to ask about barbecue sauce for our brisket . I really wanted to like this place, my husband and I have enjoyed their spirits at various restaurants in Taos, but we were very underwhelmed and felt it was very overpriced especially for lacking service.

My wife bought me a silver shaving bowl for our anniversary at the Tabasco shop. They sell Pepsi products. The difference between the large vs medium margarita wasn't that much of a value. However, I ordered the bbq ribs because the menu says they are baby back ribs. They are not: they are spare ribs. Very tough and you have to saw them off the bone with a knife. I went ahead and ate as much as I could because I was starving after hiking all day. I asked the waitress if these were really baby back ribs. She said "oh, no, those are not baby back." I told her the menu says baby back. She said "nowhere on the menu does it say baby back." I asked her to bring a menu and then I showed her where it clearly states baby back. She said, "oh, I learned something new". I then asked to see the owner, Orlando. He refused to come. The waitress said he was busy working the bar so I went to see him (since he didn't have the simple customer service courtesy of coming to see me at my table). I told him that I wasn't looking for a free meal but I thought he could do something (like 1/2 off my meal, a free appetizer, anything; I would have been happy with an apology). I told him that he is buying spare ribs because they are cheaper and trying to pass them off as baby back and this is false advertising. He didn't say a word. Busted.

The service was good but I feel like they can be more informative, especially to someone new in town. If you're not aware, the burgers do not come with fries. You must order them separately. One thing the server did not mention. All she asked was, fries or onion rings? Now, I do understand we could read the menu, which we did, but most hamburger joints come with a side of fries especially at these prices!!! You're paying between $13-18 a burger, it should come with a side of fries! Now what she also failed to tell us was the amount of French fries that come when you order them. It's a large basket that could be shared between 2-3 people. We ordered three fries plus 1 onion ring. We paid $16.50 for three fries and barely ate through one whole basket! The fries seemed fresh cut but seemed like they had this weird film on the outside. Not sure if it's their oil, or if they didn't fry it at a high enough temperature. What we ordered: - bison burger (medium) : it came out burnt to a crisp. The initial bite wasn't bad but eating it more felt like you had a mouth full of ash. While I can appreciate a good charbroiled or grilled hamburger, it was overly done. Not to mention it was over cooked. There was no seasoning on top of the burnt flavor. It wasn't really edible. - old timer w/cheese (medium): add an additional charge for cheese! This too came out burnt! My daughter could only eat a little as it was too charbroiled/grilled. It too was over cooked and no where near medium. - green chili burger (medium): I had high hopes of this burger as it came with cheese and their infamous New Mexico Green chili! While my patty was not burnt, it was over cooked and it had zero to no seasoning! It came with a green chili mayo which was really good but it still didn't help with the seasoning! The burgers here seem fresh and the beef seems a good quality, but I still believe it's overpriced for what you get! I also understand times are hard and our economy is struggling with prices, but then they need to find other ways to cut prices down without sacrificing quality.
