Can I give six stars? Years ago I wasn't impressed with Roti's menu and stopped eating there. I decided to give them a second chance about a year ago, I'm so glad I did. Roti serves fresh, flavorful, satisfying Mediterranean food. I especially love the cauliflower rice option and the garbanzo bean salad, which makes every bowl and sandwich delicious. Also worth trying are their grilled veggies. During my last visit, my server was especially attentive and engaging. Little did I know that I was talking to Roti's culinary director, Layla. She is responsible for the menu in all of their restaurants. Bursting with energy and enthusiasm, she educated me on their chicken (farm raised and organic!) and where they drew inspiration for their menu. She accompanies the CEO on a trip to Jerusalem every year to immerse themselves in Middle Eastern food. She even showed me pictures of the food and restaurants at which they ate. The server at Northbrook, Bulky, and Latino man, possibly in his early thirties, was extremely rude and dismissive when asked about the menu. When done with, his attitude was unpleasant, and it spoiled the experience. He continued to walk toward the back of the kitchen, whispering to his coworkers about what appeared to be my asking about the menu. I won't be returning. We came here to get takeout about 40 minutes before they closed tonight. Roti is a Chipotle-style concept where you build your bowl, salad or pita from the toppings and sauces available. I like the Mediterranean-ish approach, though it's far from authentic. But it's fast and easy and, when done well, is a good option that's nearby and open a little later. The restaurant itself was empty when we arrived, as a woman had just left with her own takeout order. I was surprised to see someone sitting on the counter in the food prep area with his shoes on the counter. I don't know if he was an employee - he was playing on his phone and never acknowledged us while we were being helped. He wasn't wearing anything Roti branded either. Still, inappropriate and honestly strange. Neither of the two employees working suggested he get off the counter so this appears to be accepted behavior. Should we have left? Probably. But we just got home after a long drive and needed something to eat. Our food was okay. It wasn't fresh and was lukewarm but at the end of the day, we sort of expected that. The pitas were stale - pita shouldn't be hard. Food temperature aside, it was flavorful and the portions were generous. I felt like I was being rushed through the process as the employee kept asking "What else?" as I was reading the labels and making decisions. Overall, not my first choice tonight or in the future. I'm not sure if there was a manager there but, if so, that doesn't bode well for the cleanliness and standards of this place. Update: I had a very positive interaction with Alexy at Roti's customer service. They agreed the entire situation was strange (sometimes you just need someone to confirm that, right?) and provided a refund on our meals. They're also escalating the situation. It will probably be awhile before I consider coming back to this location but I'm not writing off all Roti locations, especially after a warm and quick effort to repair an odd situation. read more

I like Roti overall. I appreciate how flavorful its food often is, but this location doesn't serve it well. I came here during a slow afternoon. Everyone working there was nice enough, so no problem there. But my main issue here is that you're paying $15 or more for a bowl that is sooooo dry. The proteins are sitting out in a way that isn't a food safety issue but certainly is a taste issue. Everything has dried out - the proteins, the rice, the cauliflower rice, etc. I got two sauces, including the terrific green schug (spicy), but that ultimately wasn't enough to rescue a super dry chicken bowl. It would be good if they found a new way to store their proteins and other food that wasn't as prone to drying out. read more

Service was incredible. Our server was very generous and offered to customize our bowl. His friendly demeanor is not often displayed in fast food restaurants. I had a pretty pleasant experience here despite all the not so great reviews. Service was efficient and friendly, and the food was pretty good. Similar to chipotle, you can build your own rice bowl, salad bowl, or wrap. You pick a protein, and then you can add whatever salads, dips, and sauces you like. They have so many options for a person like me who likes to try a little bit of everything it's perfect! I had a falafel rice bowl, the falafel was a little lukewarm I think they make it in big batches which is great for speed of service but not so great on the fresh falafel texture. The spicy feta and hummus are so good. Pita was a little dry and the pita chip toppings were a little stale. BUT the salads and other toppings more than make up for it. When my order was delivered without the dressing I ordered and I called the Northbrook store, I got a voice mail 3 times, with message nobody was available. So, frustrated, I left an angry voice mail saying please call and tell me if you will deliver the dressing or if not, refund the order. The manager did call me back, saying he didn;t understand how the dressing was not there, (that is fine) with no apology and then told me no refund and I could pick up the dressing. I responded that I would not use their place again. Then he accused me of leaving a horrible uncalled for message with cursing, which was not true at all. Be advised. I live in Indiana and there aren't any Roti's out this way. When I get up to the Northbrook area, I always go to Roti. I was there recently on Saturday, June 5th. They never disappoint! My salmon and kale bowl was amazing, It was delicious with a generous serving size. The staff was friendly and helpful. The cost was reasonable. I did a curbside pickup for Roti using their app. It was super easy and the order was ready just in time, as I arrived at noon exactly. The staff stopped what they were doing and greeted me with a warm hello as I walked in to fetch the order. I ordered some kids meals which were a good size and also a steak bowl. We really enjoy Roti for the ability to build your own bowl and get just what you want! We appreciate this especially bc my kiddos have celiac (wheat allergy). My daughter built her bowl and the last step was sauces - she wanted to try the avocado tahini. Ok, so odd - the regular tahini is gluten free but not the avocado tahini. I forgot to check to make sure it was gluten free before they poured it. They were very gracious and made my kiddo a new bowl. Everything was super fresh and really tasty. Had a 2 for 1 coupon, sad to say my husband's not a fan. With my daughter in town I actually had opportunity to use 2 for 1...she IS a fan! Extremely conflicted about my review. First of all, of course there's the 2 for 1 deal which can't be bad (unless food and service was terrible). Then there are the employees - so very seriously nice! The food, I hadn't been here in a long time, was even better than I remembered it to be. The mix of Mediterranean flavors is awesome. The food and toppings are displayed nicely and I like that you tell them what you want from the "buffet of base, protein, and toppings " and they add it. One can pick from salad, rice bowl, cauliflower rice bowl (up charge of $2) or pita. Also, the pita which is now pre-wrapped is so good. Finally, it was packed nicely "to-go" and included forks and napkins. Here's the good/bad: my daughter had her bowl made. Then suddenly, one of the extremely nice employees said, "I'm remaking your bowl, I saw something that I didn't like the looks of in your original bowl." At least that is what we think she said, so hard to tell with masks on. The good is that she was remaking the bowl, the bad is that we don't know if she saw a cockroach or just wilted lettuce, something worse, or something innocuous. Thank you yelp for giving me $20 gift card to use at this location. The parking was convenient and the place inside was very nice and clean. It's a quick sit down or in and out place just like chipotle and halal guys. I got the Steak Roti Salad and my boyfriend got the Chicken Wrap. For my salad I chose the Romain lettuce as the veggie base and I told the lady server to place the toppings and not tossed. I added the cooked fresh veggies with garlic and the red s'hug sauce (spicy). For the chicken wrap he added some cooked fresh veggies too with garlic sauce and roasted red pepper sauce. We were given free drink cups as well. We got the carrot, lemon, and ginger drink. They have soda and a few healthy drinks you can choose from which is a plus. The food was amazing. The steak was so juicy and it was cooked perfectly. The spicy red sauce and the garlic just made the salad taste much better. The chicken wrap was delicious too. The chicken was not dry at all and even though it's a small wrap, it was good. I would love to come back to this place to try the flatbread and rice plate which are also on the menu. I would recommend anyone to come to this place to try their food. I have no complaints. However, I thought it was kind of pricey. The woman told me I had to pay $11 extra on top of my gift coupon. I was shocked at first but then reconfirmed with her. So my total was $31? It wasn't like I ordered any hummus or extra stuff to my order. Today the cashier working told me that I had to pay the exact amount and that "I couldn't go over." Normally, I do pay with card, but it was a small amount so I figured I can pay with cash. As I was waiting I saw a young lady helping out customers and handling online orders as diligently as she could and when it was finally my turn I was greeted with the utmost respect and patience, even though she had just handled a long line of customers and online orders. Roti Mediterranean used to be good until a new owner bought over the business. Reviews have been poor, and continue to go downhill since the new ownership. Sides like pearled couscous, lemon kale, rainbow slaw, and hummus - YES, you heard me right, HUMMUS IS PERMANENTLY GONE - were replaced with cheaper options. Just when you think it couldn't get any more cheapskate, the sides are now green cabbage, purple cabbage, tomato, and cucumber. You got that right: They no longer serve tomato and cucumber salad together. Tomato and cucumber are now separate sides. Green cabbage and purple cabbage are also now separate sides. They split up the rainbow slaw to separate slaws to save on cost. It's like serving peanut butter sandwich or strawberry jelly sandwich instead of peanut butter jelly sandwich to save on cost. To make it even more cheapskate, I had to repeatedly tell the employee behind the counter for another spoon of side. Meals automatically came with pita in the past, but employees now ask you if you want pita. One also has to wonder if they wash their vegetables. Everything was dry, too, including the chicken. I also found a cabbage core in my order when until date, I haven't seen an avocado seed in my guacamole at Chipotle or bell pepper seeds in my kung pao chicken at Panda Express. Roti Mediterranean is clearly struggling. It's evident not only in the reviews at this location but for all locations. The new owner should sell the business rather than continue to cheapen a once loved by all Roti Mediterranean. If the new owner doesn't sell the business, Roti Mediterranean is going to close down all of its locations soon. That's already happening; several locations - even in Chicago - had already been shut down. What a shame. And it's definitely not because of Covid or the economy. If that's the reason, we'd see Chipotle or Panda Express struggling, cutting corners, and replacing their menu options with extremely cheap ingredients, but that's not happening. This is clearly a management issue ever since the new owner bought the business. Don't waste your time with Roti Mediterranean anymore. This place is no longer Roti Mediterranean. read more

Fast casual Mediterranean is where it's at. Think Chipotle but with trendy middle-eastern ingredients that we somehow associate with heart health and not Iraq. I associate it with taste. Get the wrap (not the pita--it fits less), and grab chicken Roti (otherwise known as chicken schwarma) and add hummus, the tabbouleh (the tomatoes and parsley stuff--they dumb the names down here), and olives and feta and tons of other good stuff. Wow time for an update. So apparently I used to love this location... can't quite say that anymore. When I come here, it's typically for weekday lunch. Maybe I got used to the super-efficient locations in the city that handle lunch rush no problem, but this location just does not live up. I've found the lunchtime service to be very inconsistent. Not only do they not always offer to mix the salad, but I've actually had them refuse to mix my salad because they were so busy, which is ridiculous. Manage your line, manage your staff, but don't refuse to give me what I'm paying for. (Usually they do mix it, but that really shocked me when it happened!) Food is still great, though the quantities of toppings vary significantly based on the day. read more

Do not use this place for business purposes!!!! Although, it came recommended from a friend who lived in Chicago few years ago, the quality of service must have changed dramatically in recent years. I've ordered 24h+ in advance directly from Roti's website for 10 people for a business meeting and the order arrived with no utensils, no sauces, no bread, no drinks, and half the dessert. I called repeatedly to ask for the full order to be delivered and no one even picked up the phone! To put the cherry on top - on subsequent days I called several times to inquire regarding a refund for the undelivered items and when they do actually pick up the phone I am told by a grumpy employee to call their delivery contractor and figure it out with them. Horrible service, communication, and execution - overall an appalling way to do business.
