My company has recently started using Roti to cater office events, so I've had their food a couple times in the past few months. So, while I can't speak to the in-person experience (the line, the service, the whole chipotle-type wrap operation as people describe it, etc.), I can attest to the quality of the food. For one thing, please just ignore the fact that they are taking cuisines from many cultures across a vast region and just condensing them into a singular point on the food landscape. No, it's not Lebanese food. It's not Greek, Israeli, Moroccan, or anything else either. It's just generic Mediterranean food. Their goal was clearly not to replicate the authentic experience of being in one specific country somewhere. It was just to incorporate the flavors and ingredients of a region and its varied food traditions into a product that a wide range of people will enjoy. In that respect, I think that they have succeeded in their efforts. I've had quite a range of their offerings: chicken and feta wraps, veggie wraps, chicken kabobs, beef kabobs, falafel, pita and pita chips, hummus, various sauces and condiments, a cold grilled vegetable salad, an orzo salad, and some other things. I was impressed with the attention to detail and depth of flavor in all of their dishes. They also do a great job of catering in that they put together all the aspects of an actual meal, which beats the hell out of sandwiches and chips. Terrible place to have lunch. Wife and i ordered the salad and rice option. My rice plate had falafel. The sauces they put had gone bad. The garlic and tahini sauce had a terrible smell and aftertaste to it. The falafel was not hot and was premade for the lunch option. Will not go back here. The service was mediocre too. The other worst part: Bathroom. There is no trash or baby changing table. In 2016 there should be a trash can in the bathroom. Where is one supposed to discard diapers/trash? On both the bathrooms there was no trash bin. It was dirty too. read more

Fast healthy food options with high quality ingredients. I had the Falafel with hummus and cous cous wrap dressed with Tahini sauce. You can add tons of extras if you like i.e. Rice, bean veggies etc. It was excellent. Staff was courteous and friendly. Lots of seating inside and outside. Outside seating is covered with heat lamps. Only draw back was bathroom did not have a baby changing station. Good to know if you go with a small child- other then that minor challenge it was very good! read more

Great falafel! I've lived overseas and enjoyed plenty of good falafel, especially in the Middle East. Roti has nailed it: light and crispy, not at all mushy. Excellent flavor!! Service was great, no surprise - they just opened, but it seems like they have their system down pat and I'm pretty excited to go back. Salmon kabob is also really, really good. Lafa bread is light (I prefer it a little thicker) but held all the food in without breaking. Good choice for any time. read more

I have visited this Roti location many times now. It has never failed me! Fresh quality of food, efficient service and good value for the money. The kabobs platter with two sides and pita bread are to die for! Also if you like falafel, you can not get more authentic than this. Give it a try, and you will never regret it! This place is fast! And delicious! And friendly! Normally I don't get so excited about a lunch place. However, the fact that the food is decently healthy, and the staff are always nice is pretty irresistible. Don't be intimidated by a line out the door, it moves quickly and you should be able to find a table at the end. Also, I signed up for a frequent visitor's key chain thingy (free) and somehow that translated into $5 off last time I went for lunch. Neat! read more

yum!!! I'm so sick of chain restaurants so this was a nice addition to the Farragut area. (Just to clarify, yes Roti has other locations in Chicago but I don't consider them a chain the way I consider Chipotle a chain.) Me and Co-Worker walking down Penn: "Where is this place?" "Oh I see a really long line up there..I hope it's not Roti" It IS! But no worries, the line moves quickly AND the manager walks up the line with free samples of hummus and fallafel. He also has menus and helps answer any questions. "Sure, I don't mind waiting in line as long as the samples keep coming out." What a smart move! Once you get up to the counter, the line moves quickly so be prepared. I almost always get the Chicken Roti in Laffa. Here are the stations: - Laffa or Pita / What kind of meat or dish? - What kind of sauce? I usually get the spicy (which is more sweet/spicy) and on the side. - What toppings? Some cost extra (roasted veggies, etc) -Pay! That was easy. It's almost Chipotle Style. Two things I advise management to look into: First, the sauce guy always gives me an attitude when I ask for it on the side. I only ask for it on the side because you slop it on and make it messy. Second, sometimes my food moves down the food line faster than I'm moving down the line. Do you really expect me to yell back what toppings I want over the 5 people in front of me? read more

One of my friends got on the special free lunch list today, so we had the opportunity to check it out pre-official-opening. The staff seemed prepared and the woman at the front of the ordering area was helpful and happy to explain anything on the menu (there are a lot of options, so it can be a bit overwhelming). I tried the Venetian plate with fire-roasted chicken, which is also served with sides of hummus, baba ghannoush, cous-cous and tomato & cucumber salad. The chicken was very flavorful and I enjoyed the other sides as well- except the baba ghannoush. It seemed to have a much stronger eggplant flavor than I was expecting. My friend had the chicken kabob and offered me a piece- it was herby goodness and tender. Another friend had the falafel sandwich and said the falafel was a little soggy. There were lots of topping choices, so that's a plus. It will definitely be a good addition to downtown lunch options! I believe the official opening is next Monday (April 12). read more

This was the 4th time I have ben to Roti and I will say they have done very well each time. The line moves much fater now, so even if you are at the back it will only take 10 minutes to get to the front. The food was great. I had the steak in a wrap with all the goodies. Had a wonderful fast lunch here! Think of it sort of as a Mediterranean Chipotle. Do not be daunted by the long line as it moves very quickly. The staff's mission is to get you in and out and you can order online as well. The falafels were great and a large side order of 6 is only $3.50 with a small of 3 also available for less. I got a roti steak sandwich and while the hummus was just OK everything else was brilliant. Everyone I went with really enjoyed their meals (especially the vegetables). I went here for the soft opening. Obviously all the staff and service was top-notch during these days. The only annoying thing was an older gentleman who was affiliated with the restaurant was orally describing the menu to people (do we not know how to read?) and making it seem like NW DC had never eaten Mediterranean food before. Hello, there are many other restaurants that serve this cuisine. Someone did ask about the chicken roti being white meat. Instead of just saying no, it's dark meat. He went into an obnoxious rant about how Americans are the only ones who eat white meat. I heard him say this three times while waiting in line. This was annoying. On to the food: I think the prices are pretty fair. Probably the best deals are the sandwiches and plate. If you get a salad meat will cost you more and if you get more than three toppings, which you'll probably want to do. I ended up ordering the chicken kabob salad. The chicken was tender but not very flavorful so I had to add salt and pepper (which they didn't have out anywhere). I think chicken roti is probably the better--more flavorful--choice. My salad toppings included the roasted veggie mix, tomatoes and cucumbers, eggplant, slaw and bubbagnoush (sp?)and hummus. It sounds like a lot but the "scoops" were fairly small. Veggies were good ( a little oily), Spanish eggplant was delicious, slaw was ok, bubba was good but wasn't a fan of the hummus--a little too creamy and tahinish for me. I wish they had salad dressings (like a vinaigrette) for the salads instead of the sauces they use for the plates. Overall I think the food was good and a decent value for the area. The only problem is I was hungry an hour after eating (and I'm no fatty, actually fairly petite)! Maybe salad portions could have been a little more generous? Portions served with a tablespoon?! If you enjoy small portions, this is the place for you. I spent almost $10 for a salmon rice plate which looked like something you would feed a 3 yr old. I think they prepared the salmon yesterday because it was tough (yes I said tough) and tasteless. There wasn't much for me to taste as far as rice and veggies go, so I can't elaborate on the rest of my meal. Of course if you ask the servers for larger portions be prepared for nasty looks or my favorite "you have to pay extra". LOL I was short on time so I took my kids meal and ate it. I informed the manager about my meal and he looked at me in shock. He told me he would look in to it. REALLY Sir?! Trust me I will hike down a few blocks to Foggy Bottom location or go to McD's and get a kids meal because that's what this location is serving up Roti Kids Meals. read more

When roti first opened here, it was great. Portions were generous, and they gave free hummus with any dish that came with a pita. Then the management slowly started screwing customers, shrinking portions and now training the servers to be OCD about asking everyone if they want hummus as one of the 3 side dishes. This has happened over the past couple years, as portions keep getting subtly smaller and smaller. What finally prompted me to write was that they eliminated the roti frequent customer card. Like, they told me it's no longer valid and that from now on, customers have to download an app and submit their receipts themselves. This to me is a real slap in the face to customers. The management not only shrink portions and jip us out of previously free hummus, but now they are trying to make it hard to just get a free dish after loyally buying from them? We're busy professionals, isn't the point that we don't have time to make lunch....but yet we have time to save a $10 receipt to upload later? I don't have anything against trying t make a profit, I just take offense to management so blatantly trying to see how much they can get away with. It's really turned me off roti, so I go much less frequently. read more

Please read this is you have food allergies! This place is like Chipotle for Mediterranean food - fast, reasonably priced, and absolutely delicious. I'm a huge fan, and have recommended it to just about everyone I know. The line tends to be really long, but in my experience it does move quickly, even at the height of the lunch rush. If you have food allergies, however, I advise you to proceed with some caution: Many of the sauces they use are rather runny, and because of how fast they move, there is a lot of cross-contamination. As someone with food allergies myself, I have to be really careful when I go. If you have food allergies to any of the ingredients on their menu, I would recommend against ordering online, just so that you can be there when they prepare your food, and make sure that you get a "clean" meal - full of deliciousness, and free of anything that could make you sick!! If you don't have food allergies, no worries! just dig in and enjoy :) read more

Mediterranean Chipotle... I'm a fan! I wasn't sure if I was a fan of Mediterranean food, but RMG convinced me it was so. Staff was friendly, store was clean, and the food was better than just A-OK chain food - yay! They have options of salad, plate, or pita/wrap... all their sauces are awesome... and their falafels are like pillows of flavor-packed food of the heavens - who knew rabbit food could taste so good!? This place is absolutely amazing, every time I stop in Washington I decide to walk by the White House so I can stop here for lunch or dinner. The Sultan Sandwich is the best tasting pita sandwich I've ever had, and I hope to see more of these places popping up around the country in the near future. LOVE LOVE LOVE Roti. I get the Sultan Sandwich every time + feta. I keep telling myself I will try the falafel but I never actually do. A coworker got the falafel last time we went and said it was really good... maybe next time. But seriously, the sultan sandwich is amazing. Do not go here with someone you are trying to impress. You will eat 2 pounds of food and it will get messy. Ordering is set up in a similar fashion to Chipotle but is obviously way better and the food is fresher. The staff here is very friendly, the restaurant is clean, and the portions are large. I was very impressed by the flavor of the food. When we walked in I felt like we were walking into a Chipotle, and in general the style of dining is very similar. You can get a salad, plate, or pita all of which you pick what is added to your dish. They have a wide variety of toppings to pick from as well. I tried the falafel salad and I was very impressed. I am picky when it comes to falafels and Roti definitely satisfied me! If you are looking for a quick and delicious lunch place this is a good choice! read more

This is average food at best. I got the Best Plate Ever and it was dry and bland and what kind of hubris is it even to give it such a ridiculous name. Today I got a chicken rice plate and it was meh. All their meats are dry and overcooked. There's a ton of people and it's chaotic, and the sauces always give me heartburn. This has never happened to me in the Mediterranean towns I've eaten in. This is a pale simulacrum of healthy mediterranean fare and I can't believe the number of 5 stars this place has gotten. Avoid if you are a serious foodie. read more
