Although it didn't really necessarily show up as "the best food in LA area" but all the reviews were so good so I became curious to try. Mainly the reviews also raved about the vibes, services, and live music. Well, they were not wrong! It was fairly easy to make a reservation through Opentable, and I made a reservation for two people for my birthday dinner on Sunday night. I put on the notes that it's my bday so it'll be nice to get a nice table near the stage. I didn't have a high expectation, cos I'd never been to the place and I didn't make a call or anything. But wow, they definitely gave us a great table at the very front! As many reviewers had mentioned, the acoustic of the restaurant is really great. You can barely hear other people's conversations. There's a live jazz band playing, so you can really enjoy that. Although it made it slightly hard to hear what other nearby people say to you either, haha. Our server Dawson was a really great one! Very nice, very informative and just has a great vibe that made you feel comfortable to converse with him. We also asked if he could take a picture of us and he went above and beyond with taking our pictures haha. He took the table lamp as our additional "lighting". Such a great service! Dawson also made a few suggestions on food. We ordered the milk bun (so great!), the tiger prawns tostada (omg, my favorite of the night!), braised lamb pasta, pork belly risotto, and roasted broccolini. Everything was really good and really filled us up! We also got the "smokin old fashioned" and "Wake up and repeat" cocktails. It was plenty of food for us so we asked for a check. Dawson asked if we wanted a dessert but we were already full. He asked if it's ok to give us a lil treat for my bday. It was a really nice dessert :). Oh I forgot to mention that they also put a small bday card on the table for me. The prices of food and drinks are on the higher sides, but I feel like it's worth it due to the live music and the vibe. It easily covers the entertainment part. We definitely will go back and recommend this place for anyone who's looking into a nice date night or to celebrate something special. I was informed that Friday has more of a "party vibe" here, although it's still a jazz performance. Sunday feels more laid back :) Overall I'm really pleased by this place. I used to think that I don't care that much about excellent service as long as the food is great, but I was wrong. The excellent hospitality just made the night even better than expected. The usually have a live band after 7pm and the sound in the resturant is amazing. It's like a recording studio. The staff was very friendly! The decor and ambiance was also impressive. We got the tiger prawns and it was presented as a toasta, which had a great flavor and texture. The apple salad was also refreshing and a good portion to share between 2 people. The broccolini was cooked perfectly and my favorite after the tiger prawns was the Dungeness crab pasta. It had uni on top! The uni elevated the dish, and honestly there were a good amount of crab meat in the dish. Overall well balanced and creamy. The 2 of us left full and satisfied. Highly recommend this place for a date night. There's also plenty of street parking when we went but there is also valet for $15.

We were stoked that it was at a new spot, and so close! We went on a Sunday afternoon. So it wasn't packed. Had a booth to ourselves. The decor inside was amazing. And the show was hysterical and fun. The actors are so great. Now as far as the bar goes - we plan to go back during normal operating hours and times (hopefully soon). And I can comment more. But I will say I'm excited to go back because the cocktails are super delicious, AND they have daily happy hour (5-8pm if I'm not mistaken). Huge plus. The only negatives are the parking. Very little parking lot so that could be tough on a busy day. And the service was mid. There was one friendly bartender, and another one that just may have been having a rough day. But I didn't feel really welcomed or attended to. Rest of the staff was great!

They even have a free trolley that runs hourly to/from Universal Studios and a LA bus terminal. Our 3-night stay during Memorial Day was great - comfortable rooms, beds, and friendly service. Rooms had plenty of storage space and charing ports, and wifi is free and fast. They also have an agenda of daily activities like group exercise classes, LA hot dog/taco nights, and classic movies next to the pool. Their main restaurant, Front Yard offers a daily breakfast buffet and ala carte brunch, lunch, and dinner. The only reason for the -1 stars is that their AC is an older, in-wall unit that gets loud when turned on. Outdoor Parking also isn't cheap at $50/night with in/out privileges but that may be typical for the area.

Starting off, when we checked into our room, they had us in a 1 king room, when we had originally…read morerequested a 2 queen room. We had 4 people traveling and 4 people were not going to fit into the 1 king room. When we asked to be switched, they offered us a roll in bed, which was the size of a twin bed, would not fit two adults. When we got up to our room, there was hair on the wall between the shower and the toilet, making us feel like it was not cleaned thoroughly. Our electric car was charging on site and we were running back and forth doing things for the wedding, setting up, etc. No one informed us that there would be an additional charge if we were still parked there after our car was done charging. $58 later and when we mentioned that in our review through the hotel, they said they'd comp our food bill, which was 2 drinks and a fruit bowl, probably $20+. This was disappointing to my mom, who went beyond her means to stay on site for the wedding. This was completely disappointing as we were traveling for a wedding that took place on site. 2 of us were luckily able to stay in the luxury suite which was reserved for the groom get ready room (2 nights). If those stars hadn't aligned, we would not have been able to sleep comfortably in our 1 king room. Also, the suite does not have a microwave in it, we had to request one to be brought up, which I found unconventional. My cousin had their wedding here for how much money my aunt spent between the suite, a bride get ready room, and just the general costs of a wedding, it was disappointing to hear she had a difficult experience here as well. She mentioned that they pulled her away from her son's wedding reception to place her credit card down for incidentals. Why hadn't that happened beforehand? They had her card on file already between all the rooms she booked, so the fact that they took her away from this once in a lifetime experience is ridiculous. She also mentioned that they asked not only for her card info but for her ID. She told them she was not going out of her way to find that when she didn't have it on hand and they were in the middle of celebrating. Needless to say, it was an unfortunate experience this time around. I've been here before and didn't experience the lack of professionalism we experienced this time. The valet service and the staff that supports with luggage were very helpful and kind. It saddens me to have to write such a poor review for such a beautiful place. I have recommended this place to people in the past for general lodging. However, for weddings or any big event, this is not the best of places to host.

The host was very friendly---he said it was his second day but checked to make sure to find out answers to questions he didn't know. He sat us promptly at the bar. From there, it was a steep decline. It was fairly hot inside as if the AC was broken and made the experience a bit uncomfortable. It took us about 10+ minutes while we were sat before a server even approached us. He told the table behind us that he would be with them in a minute and my friend responded thinking he was talking to us but he wasn't. He didn't even acknowledge us until way later. When he finally came over to us, we inquired about the different prices for the sake and they didn't have the sake we wanted on the menu so I asked for one more minute. He didn't come back for another 10 minutes and then I flagged someone down by raising my hand and he came over and interrupted me trying to order to tell me he would grab my server. Not sure if he was a busser or another server who had his own section and didn't want to help out. Alas, there seems to be a lot of floor staff and only 5 tables occupied at the time of our visit but the service was one of the most atrocious things I've seen in a while. Our server finally showed up again and we ordered our sake and one specialty roll to split: the Terminator. He asked us if we wanted ginger or wasabi to which I responded 'just a lot of wasabi.' The sushi roll came out extremely fast---probably within a 3-5 minutes of us ordering it and while we didn't have full on conversations with the sushi chefs, they were very nice and the reason for the extra stars on this review. I sat there for about 5 minutes unable to eat because I was still waiting for my wasabi. The server never checked up on us. I got the attention of the lovely lady sushi chef and asked for wasabi and she was apologetic and left to go tell the server. The server finally arrived with not just wasabi but a lot of ginger that we already told him we didn't need. The prices are ridiculous for what you get but it's Citywalk so understandable. The sushi roll was expensive at the tune of $23 but it was pretty tasty. If I was just rating the service, this review would have gotten 1/5 stars. Didn't catch a name. He never introduced himself. We asked one of the sushi chefs if they get to keep the tips in their tip jar on top of the bar because we wanted to make sure they got tipped properly and they said they do (just fyi if you want to tip the sushi chefs!). Would I come back? Possibly if I'm there for a movie or Universal. However, if I have to wait more than 5 minutes for a server to even acknowledge my existence once I'm already sat, I feel it best to walk out and head over to Vivo where their service is always on point.

I went to the soft opening of Rouge on September 25th with a friend, and the venue felt familiar because I realized this used to be a hookah spot I visited years ago. The complete makeover gave it a fresh, upscale vibe. The venue has multiple levels: the main floor with a retractable ceiling (perfect for summer nights), a bar and DJ area that's great for socializing and dancing, and more intimate seating upstairs. The food was delicious, especially the cheeseburger--it's one of the best I've had in LA, perfectly cheesy with a sweet bun. The salmon was also amazing, tender and flavorful. The pastas, however, could use a bit more seasoning. As for dessert, the brownie with ice cream was the highlight, though the cheesecake and the dish with gold flakes were also incredible. The only downside was the parking situation. We parked in a lot next door, but the valet came over to tell us we couldn't park there unless we used valet services. It was a bit confusing, but the staff at Rouge clarified that they aren't associated with that lot. In the end, we parked across the street, which saved us from having to deal with confusing valet. Overall, despite the minor hiccups with parking and the food taking a bit longer due to the soft opening, Rouge was an amazing experience. A friend took me to Rouge on a Thursday night back in March, and what I remember most is how thoughtful the service was. There were two celebrations happening that evening, and our server gave us a heads-up that it might get louder near our original table. He offered to move us to another spot where we could hear each other better, which I really appreciated. The space has a moody, lounge-like feel with low lighting, greenery, and a cozy covered patio. It felt lively without making conversation difficult once we moved. We started with the charcuterie board, which had a nice mix of cheeses, cured meats, fruit, nuts, crackers, olives, and cornichons. We also ordered the Chilean Seabass Skewers with citrus yuzu ponzu, and those ended up being such a hit that we ordered a few more. The fish was tender and flavorful, and they were easy to keep reaching for. Our Lychee Martinis were refreshing, lightly sweet, and almost too pretty to drink. The purple color from the butterfly pea flower made them stand out, and each came garnished with a lychee. Rouge also offers valet, which made arriving on Ventura Boulevard much easier. I'd happily come back for cocktails and another relaxed night with a friend. Disappointed with Unprofessional Service I had a reservation booked three weeks in advance and was looking forward to it. However, when we arrived, we were informed that our reservation had been canceled without any notification. Supposedly, they "tried to contact us" on Monday but never left a message. After checking our missed calls, it was clear they never even tried. When the owner was contacted, he admitted to calling once but forgetting to inform the host to follow up. His excuse? "I was busy with everything else and forgot to follow up." To top it off, the real reason for canceling our reservation was that they decided to prioritize booking a group party instead. This level of unprofessionalism is unacceptable. A proper business honors its commitments and communicates effectively with its customers. We were left stranded and extremely disappointed. I recently visited this restaurant and lounge, and it was a disappointing experience. The only good thing about the place is the beautiful interior. It has a tropical style with cozy seating areas that look very nice. The service was terrible. Even though the restaurant was almost empty, everything took a very long time. Drinks and food were served slowly, and the staff didn't seem to care. The food was the worst part. We tried a few starters like chicken fries, chicken wings, and shrimp in lemon sauce, and all of them tasted awful. The only thing we liked was the French fries because they were crispy, but it's hard to mess up fries. We didn't even want to try the main dishes after that. Overall, the service was slow, and the food was bad. The hookah is overpriced and wasn't good. I won't come back, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. It's a shame because the interior is so nice, but everything else was disappointing. read more

I've been here twice now, and I'm honestly surprised this place isn't more popular! The food has been amazing both times, everything we've ordered has been flavorful, fresh, and cooked perfectly. You can tell they really care about the quality of their dishes. The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and makes for a great place to enjoy a meal, whether you're going with family, friends, or on a date. I love Rouge. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with warm candle lights and Tulum vibes music. The staff was super friendly and took care of me right away. They have a super interesting and epic Armenian wine selection. They also educated me on the some of the history of Armenian wine and it's one of the oldest regions. The food was bomb. Loved the torshi with the pickled Persian mulberry, the bone marrow was out of this world, and the short ribs congee was super flavorful with nice spice and a tangy fish sauce chili oil. What a great restaurant, not for the ambiance, not for the service, but for the actual food. Dro and Garo, work together in harmony and perfect everything they touch. We had reservations at Rouge with another couple, which we made well in advance. However, upon arrival, we were told that they didn't have space for us, and that they had forgotten to call us to cancel the reservation. The owner mentioned being too busy to remember to reach out. I rarely ever leave bad reviews, but my experience here was honestly unacceptable. The staff were completely negligent and unprofessional from start to finish. We were ignored for long stretches of time. When we finally got someone's attention, they seemed annoyed that we were even asking for help. We were sitting in the bar area, and I think on the other side of the outdoor host area is more traditional restaurant seating, though I can't be sure. Jesse was our server and he was very kind and, by his own admission, new to the place. He worked hard to make things right for us. We started off with two glasses of happy hour pinot noir ($6) which were served very warm. When I inquired about it, he told us that they serve wine at "ambient temperature," but he would mention it to management. When it's over 80 outside, you should not be serving wine at that temp. He brought another glass in a little carafe on ice to try to remedy it, which was kind. I ordered a Watermelon Mojito on happy hour, with no agave ($10). It was fine. Other drinks our group ordered were a Lagunitas IPA ($8), a Pacifico ($8), and cold glasses of champagne (I asked before ordering to be certain; $12). As for the food, it was also ok, not bad, but fine. We shared the happy hour vegan Brussels Sprouts ($10)--no one is vegan, but that is how they come--the happy hour Margarita Flatbread ($10), the Lamb Bam sliders ($17 for two, add $6 for a 3rd), the Short and Saucy Tacos ($18 for 3) short rib tacos, and the Bone to be Wild ($18) for two large pieces of bone marrow with a few small toasted squares of bread. All of it was fine, in some cases a bit overpriced, especially off of happy hour. Many people seemed to love it, but our group was all of the opinion that it was fine. It's not a place we would rush back to.
