Very disappointed after hearing such great reviews on this restaurant. The mussels were horrible -came in a sauce which seemed to be sea water mixed with Dijon mustard. When the waitress asked how we liked our appetizer we told her the sardines were good the mussels bad, she said oh glad you like the sardines. There were 4 in our party none of us thought the meal was very good either. The tilefish was raw inside, the crab cakes seasoning was just not right, fish sandwich was just ok. The only thing we liked was the side of cornbread with maple butter was outstanding. Next time we are in the seaport area we will not be going to Row 34. read more

Oh man, we took a friend who was visiting from TX here last night for some fresh non-Gulf-sourced seafood. It was amazing. Got both kinds of lobster roll, oysters, chowder, all the things a tourist ought to try and we were all really impressed. I made a meal of smaller things including the grilled vegetables with tonnato and holy crap that was some delicious fish-mayo! Also had the onion rings which I feel could've been a little bolder with Old Bay seasoning, since it was pretty hard to detect. The chowder was impressively unique yet satisfying as the hearty soup you'd expect it to be, so good! My husband was delighted to see our favorite beer from Baden-Württemberg (Rothaus Tannenzäpfle Pils) on tap and I ordered us what I thought would be your average bottle of inexpensive muscadet that turned out to be a biodynamic, slightly oxidated, totally unexpected treat. Amazing! My boyfriend and I dined here back in April. They have a wide selection of beers plasted literally on the wall. They also have an array of oysters and seafood available. We were able to try various river oysters w/ the help of our knowledgeable waitress. She was very well informed on her beers as well and was able to help me and my boyfriend make selections. Very cool atmosphere. Very modern and industrial feel. We had reservations but it did get crowded in there. I would recommend getting there early or making a reservation! read more

We went on Saturday to celebrate my dad's birthday. I got the kampachi crudo to start. The fish itself was delicious but I thought the dish could use a bit more balance. It was a little too salty and a little too tart for my tastes. For the main course, I got the blue fish and that was amazing, perfectly roasted fish with a crispy skin, delicious corn, bacon, and the arugula pesto was really nice. My family enjoyed the buttered lobster roll, but my dad's fish and chips could have used more fish in relation to the patter. The desserts were the reason this review gets four stars and not five. With our table, we tried all three desserts and none of them were on point. I got the donuts and they were way too dry. My mom got the short cake, but it wasn't really a shortcake and my sister's friend found the butterscotch pudding to be overwhelming. I went for lunch and the food was awesome! I ordered the seafood tower, which came with a whole lobster, 12 oysters, 6 shrimp cocktails, ceviche, and littleneck clams. The price for the whole thing was reasonable as well. Our server was great. The whole atmosphere was also great. Overall, me and my friends enjoyed the place immensely. We arrived early around 5:30 and were seated promptly. If you try and book a reservation same day it is pretty difficult. They have tables for walk ins.. you hear that rock bottom? The food was very good i had the Maine crab cake which actually had a lot of crab meat along with mushroom casserole which was delicious. My wife had The Hake which was cooked perfectly. Splendid beer list, a great alternative to ICOB that's closer to home for me. My only down side is the dishes are not quite as good as Island Creek, but still some of the best in Boston. The best tuna tartare I've ever had and an awesome beer list to compliment anything on the menu.

They were about 20 minutes late seating us for a 7:30 reservation, but the hostesses were super apologetic and even sent us a complimentary appetizer when we were seated. All the food was outstanding, and the seafood was really fresh. Definitely recommend getting the 242 fries - super crispy and delicious. read more

Oysters are fresh but they don't ever have jumbos. For a restaurant known for its oyster house, I would expect more variety. Instead of the regular price of $2.5-$3 a shuck, I would go for equally fresh $1 oysters elsewhere. Raw bar food is delicious but I would pass on the regular kitchen food. Don't get the lobster roll here - they overboil the lobster. The reception area is extremely confusing every time I go. There is no clear line or enough space to accommodate everyone entering. Someone has to be holding the door between the reception area and the building entrance all the time. Overall very underwhelming despite the foot traffic. read more

Ate there recently - excellent oysters and beer selection. The other food choices left a lot to be desired. I ordered the shrimp from the raw bar and it was tough and the portion was rather small, it seemed like 2 large shrimp cut up into cube size pieces, very average . My biggest gripe was the crab cake I ordered, it was overloaded with a strong jalapeño flavor and some heat. It had so little crab in it, it was more like a jalapeño breaded biscuit - for $27??? Unacceptable. You could not see nor taste the crab. For a $200 dinner for 2 I expected much more - skip it. Neptune and Island Creek are way better! read more

While in Boston for meetings I was looking for a place for sea food that wasn't a chain restaurant or otherwise too "touristy." Row 34 was spot on. I had dinner with two colleagues and it was outstanding. The restaurant and bar are fairly tight quarters and we had to wait over an hour for a table on a Wednesday night, but the time passed quickly over some craft beer and wine while standing in the bar. The beer and wine selections (no liquor) are extensive enough to meet most expectations. The wait time was estimated accurately and once seated, service was quick and efficient. We shared the crispy oysters and calamari as appetizers and all three of us gave in and ordered the buttery lobster roll for dinner. Everything was outstanding and the lobster roll was the best I've ever had even considering the week I spent in Maine prowling around in search of the best lobster roll ever. I hope I have the opportunity to return to Row 34. I would in a heartbeat. read more

Found a seat at the bar. Friendly bar staff. Ordered the clam chowder and the tuna crudo. Clam chowder was fabulous--nice ratio of potatoes, ham, and clams. The tuna crudo plate had three pieces of tuna on avacado slices, a drizzle of tangy sauce, and some crunchy bits (prob either salt or sugar). The tuna was delightful. Hands down the best restaurant in fort point and potentially in all of boson if you're a seafood lover. They have fabulous and fresh tuna tartare and Tuna crudo on the raw bar menu. They also have a healthy but delicious avocado and watercress green salad. For entrees the monkfish and the warm butter lobster roll are to die for. Any go wrong here and is a great spot for a fun night out with good cocktails as well. There can sometimes be a wait but always check with the bartenders if you're down with sitting at the bar- it's a separate waiting list and can sometimes be faster. While the food was great the service was lacking. We arrived not making a reservation about a hour before closing, the hostess was very polite and took our name and said it would be about a 30 minute wait. We agreed to wait, about 35 minutes after I checked in to see the status. She let me know it will be a bit longer but the bartender let me know he has two spots opening up. There was a girl behind the bar which I'm not sure if she was having a bad day or always this rude. It first started while we were waiting we wanted to grab a drink so I went to the bar. It clearly said reserved so I got her attention just to order a drink and she turned over to me very very rudely stating these are reserved. Had I known that she would be taking care of us on her side of the bar I would of never agreed to sitting there. She was very rude while taking our order, I don't know much about oysters so when spending $50pp on just a light meal I wanted to learn more. She responded very quickly with not much explanation - maybe about 6 words. It's really disappointing because when spending the money and the food is so fresh you should be a bit more helpful and not as rude. I wouldn't recommend this place because of her and I don't think anyone spending that kind of money she be treated like she is doing you a favor. read more

Row 34 is definitely a must-try in Boston! It's in close proximity to the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in the Sea Port District. There seem to be many offices nearby and bonus points for the beautiful water view that you have depending on which way you take to walk there. Upon entering the restaurant at 11:45am on a Thursday afternoon, my friend and I were greeted immediately with open arms. We also got a table without having to wait - this probably would've been different had we come with a large group or arrived 15 mins later than we did as it got pretty packed. Our server came by to get our order and patiently went patiently went through the whole oyster menu (you know, brininess, taste, size, the whole shebang). We went with the Row 34s, Aunt Dotty's, Moon Shoals, Bay Views, Puffer's (our favorite one of all) and Permaquids - none of which you could go wrong with. Additionally, we ordered one warm buttered lobster roll, a cold lobster roll, fried oysters and clam chowder. The clam chowder was good,but not great. If you're a fan of bacon - not the thinly sliced kind then you'll like this. Unfortunately, I felt like there was too much bacon that it overpowered the clam chowder. The lobster rolls were cooked to perfection and while I have never been a fan of cold lobster (or crab - yes, because I'm Asian and we tend to eat them steamed), I would have to say that the cold lobster roll definitely tasted the BEST! We each ordered one to-go so we could take it on the plane with us. **(Lobster Roll Hack: Have them wrap up the roll in the paper, have them put the lobster meat in a smaller tupperware box, close with the lid, and place that in the larger tupperware box with the wrapped bun and close with the lid - this way, you can transport it without it getting soggy and you can easily put it into your backpack). All in all, it was a great experience but for some reason it took us a while to get our food which didn't seem to be the norm. Everyone else around us got their food so I'll just assume that it was a random mishap. I'll definitely be back again to try out the Uni toast (which is only served at dinner) and crudo. read more

Was visiting for a conference and craving some great oysters and a lobster roll, and Row 34 did not disappoint. The vibe was industrial chic. As a lover of sour beer, I was pumped to see at least 20 draft/bottled options, and our waitress even offered up a few samples to help me narrow my selection. Started with a few oysters - fresh, briny, with a great horseradish sauce - and a tuna crudo that borderline melted in your mouth. The lobster roll was the main event - I went with the warm buttered lobster, which came on a potato-esque bun and a ton of buttery warm delicious lobster. The side of chips and slaw were fine, nothing to write home about, but that lobster I will remember. We finished off the meal with the butterscotch pudding, which was amazing (and I don't really like butterscotch!). Fluffy and sweet, it was the perfect end to the meal. I was with a "difficult" dining companion who asked about a million questions, but our waitress totally rolled with it and offered great recommendations. read more

Wow what a disappointment. This place has 4.5 stars on Yelp so I definitely had high expectations going there for lunch on Saturday. First off the service was nice but a tad bit slow. Not particularly friendly or welcoming. When I say slow I mean that the things we ordered from the raw food bar aka oysters took foreverrrrr to come. Usually oysters come hella fast because well... they're raw and there's little to no prep. Why did it take so long? Beats me. Aside from that we ordered some shrimp cocktail - the shrimp was good but not as fresh or sweet as ones I've had before. The salmon crudo was good - the fish was fresh and I personally really liked the sesame flavors. The spicy lobster tacos were not spicy at all. No jokes they were sweet as can be and hard shell tacos which I'm not a huge fan of. The fish and chips were decent. Overall nothing to write home about. I'm not sure if maybe we ordered the wrong things (???) but either way I probably won't return unless I'm in the area and starving hehe read more

While it can get a bit pricy (the more you eat) and can be tricky to get a reservation on the weekends in the summer, it is worth it. First off, the food was good, if you are looking for seafood, fried clams, and particularly great oysters or shrimp it may be worth suffering through an otherwise flawed experience. I'll say they also have a solid selection of beer and a decent wine list, though if you want a real drink I'd reccomend hit Lucky's first and take in some Sinatra as Row 34 does not have a full liquor license / decent bar. More on that in a bit. You will also want to camp out at Lucky's until the minute you have your reservation. They must, MUST fix the reservation issue or just stop taking them all together. We actually made a reservation about a month out. Turns out this matters not; despite being on time they were over 30 minutes late seating us, which goes against the point of a reservation in my book. I'm sure they hear the time honored phrase: "don't take my reservation again" frequently. Table management appears to be a common problem, there was a line just to ask "How much longer?"... Campers abound! You will also want to delay till the last minute to show up because waiting in Row 34 is absolutley miserable. Despite the super trendy ambiance the layout of the restaurant is horrendous. You are left standing on a sizable cement floor (no real seating) with 30-45 other people in the middle of the restaurant. This would be fine but it's the same space needed by the bussing operation and is the main service corridor from the oyster line to the tables. Throw in people entering and leaving the restaurant and people going to the bathroom from the private dining area and the hostesses and waitstaff moving about the cabin you are constantly having to move out of the way of someone doing any number of things, if not all of them together. As I mentioned before there is no good bar area and really nowhere to get out of the way. Consider yourself blessed if you can stand next to a pole where no one needs to go. Think it additionally fortuitous if you get the waiting areas only amenity: a small metal shelf. Note that absolutely no one will be asking you if you want a drink, you'll need to seek that out on your own. As we get into the cold months where you can't even escape outside this will be a non-starter and I'm not even sure how they can fix it. There were also service flaws which you would not typically find in an aspiring restaurant. You may or may not find these to be the case, the variability is the obvious problem here: Our waitress clearly needed to be made available to another industry, also painfully clear was we were not the only table struggling with her, another couple had to grab another waiter. It looked like their night was ruined. One would think that a manager / chef would notice and re-deploy her. Perhaps to the RMV. Also although our food was served promptly after plating not everyone got their food. We waited several minutes for this to be rectified negating the effort. At the end of the day I think the place could be turned around but I'm highly unlikely to give it another shot. You're mileage may vary. read more
