Sunday pizza on July 8- Arrived at 5:30PM told by check-in it will be "10 minutes". 50 minutes later we (party of 5) finally sat down. After water arrived without table silverware the young waiter arrived 15 minutes it take out order of (2) salad appetizers and (2) pizzas. 30 minutes later the salads arrived with requested silverware. I have lived in Rowayton and Darien since 1989. I have visited your restaurant about every other month for the past 25 years. Including take out in the dead of winter, and at least monthly in the open-air summer months. 2. You NEVER offered my meal gratis. Not even while I stood there awkwardly waiting inside for the waiter to process my refund. And if the pizza you repeatedly claimed was almost ready, that would have been a good time to hand it to me with an apology. 3. I was not in a rush when I arrived. 90 minutes should be plenty sufficient for a weeknight pizza dinner. 4. You did not "escort me out of the restaurant," -- I waited inside for the refund to be processed. Shame on you for continuing your hostility to a customer - whether 25 years or a first timer. You had so many opportunities that evening to treat the customer right and make your busy night's challenges better. Yet you chose to blame me for your poor service and you still remain hostile. We came across this restaurant just by chance and we absolutely loved the place. It was small cozy space and it will be nice to sit out in the summer. Owner was friendly and very accomodating. There was a communication problem in pizza name, he mistook Sara to be Salad but then immediately had the pizza changed. I've been a customer of Rowayton Pizza for probably 20+ yrs at this point, and each year it just gets better and better. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience there, whether it comes to the service, the efficiency, or the quality of the food. Although we live in Norwalk, we don't live in the same neighborhood, so it's rare that we actually dine in at RP. It can also get super busy during the summer months, because they have a lot of outdoor seating right across from the water, so it's a popular family spot in town. On the occasions we do opt to eat there, the service has always been very good. As far as the delivery, I don't know what I would do without the option to order RP at least twice a month...sometimes as much as once a week! I love that their menu has just gotten better and better over time, continually adding creative takeout options, other than pizza. Their sandwiches are really good, with everything from light and fresh paninis to huge grinders for the bigger appetite. They have fantastic salads too, with very fresh ingredients and generous sizes. They have a creative selection of personal pizzas, and of course, their classic plain pie is an old standby at our house, and consistently delicious, no matter what. We freeze our leftovers, and it's pretty much guaranteed that a few slices can always be found in our freezer. A few minutes in the toaster oven and it's just as tasty as it is fresh from the box! We do branch out once in awhile, but tend to skip the toppings more often than not, because their pies are really tasty as is. My favorite thing about RP has always been their crust. It's crispy and flaky, and their pizza sauce is tasty; a perfect balance of not too sweet and not too acidic. Their pizza is not heavily laden with cheese either...it's just the right amount. Delicious food aside, Rowayton Pizza is an institution in Norwalk. They are very supportive of the community...sponsoring local school projects, sports teams, field trips, and helping support, or run fundraisers that ultimately help improve our children's schools and extracurricular activities. Absolutely fabulous- not only are the staff and owner extremely friendly and attentive, but this is the best pizza in Fairfield County hands down - and I'm from NYC so I like to think I know what I'm talking about! In particular, their salad pizza is TO DIE FOR! It's quite rich actually- has lots of pesto, garlic, cheese and the freshest salad greens imaginable on top. The regular pizza is great too, you can't go wrong. A couple of times I've had non-pizza items and they were really good, too (penne a la vodka, eggplant parm). As you can see by his bizarre and lengthy diatribe, Joe has a real issue accepting any sort of blame. Truth is he did refund us. It took a few days to come through but it did happen. Truth is he did hang up on my wife. Truth is if he doesn't think that he can deliver to us in a timely manner then he really shouldn't offer the service. Truth is the reason his restaurant got "torpedoed" is because Joe doesn't think he did anything wrong. Oh well, there's a ton of other places selling the same thing Joe sells. We won't be "swinging by" to pick up your food, because if I want to go out of my way for pizza/pasta, we much prefer Tarry Lodge. I wish this could've been worked out but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. Sorry that you feel Yelp failed you Joe, maybe a good long look in the mirror and a decision to start accepting responsibility would help. UPDATE: We have now been charged again out of nowhere by Rowayton Pizza. Guys please keep this in mind that the owner Joe has now held on to our debit card number to only recharge us again for the money he said he refunded us. Joe, you keep the money as its obvious you need it more than I do. I cannot believe that such practices are going on here. If you don't want to go through the hassle that I'm currently going through and canceling your debit card over a guy with an axe to grind go elsewhere. I absolutely love this place. I used to go almost 1-2 per week. Everything Ive had there is great. My favorite above all has to be their chicken dishes. The chicken parm is outstanding as well is the chicken francese. The chicken itself makes the meals. The pasta dishes are quite good and you can tell that they use fresh ingredients and dont freeze dishes. In the summer time it has a great local outdoor vibe. Its a tiny place so could be hard to find a place so I would suggest to do a to-go order. The people are great and make you feel at home. read more

Really wish I could give this a ZERO star. I could NOT have been more disappointed in the meal. On a non-crowded Thursday night, service was poor. I ordered a kids pasta; angle hair with red sauce. Kids pasta was available on the menu and no price was given. When I received my check, I was dumbfounded at the price that read 11.43. My friend ordered a cha cha sandwich which was 8.48$ The sandwich was very large and had bacon, cheese, avocado and chicken. I asked to see the menu again to clarify that no price was given when the manager told me that there was nothing that he could do about changing the price. Also, I have yet to mention how horrible my pasta was; how can pasta even be bad? Im not sure but somehow they managed with a pool of watery, cheap tomato sauce. I cant express more how disappointed I am in my local pizza place. I can assure you that I will never show support for this local place again. Keep in mind my price was not dropped after complaining. Being a New Haven pizza snob, I must give accolades to good pizza when found. The thin crust pie, very similar to Sally's in New Haven, flavorful sauce, light on the cheese was excellent. I finished the large after my husband only had three pieces. My bone with this place is cleanliness and lack of professionalism in the operation. I sat inside to enjoy the AC on a hot summer night. My table was over the kitchen and several bowls with proscuitto and other topping fell onto my table. The silverware basket full, was stacked on a table where patrons sit, clean newly washed utensils. It was moved several times during my dinner to different tables, I was waiting for it to be moved to the floor. The owner sat with his friend at a table, who was eating his salad with his hands, and the staff and others chatted. Several times things were loudly dropped on the floor, and the waitresses were unprofessional, walking into the open kitchen chatting loudly and giggling. The bus boys brought the left over pizza and put into boxes with his hands, I watched this over and over again, this did not appear as proper behavior. The bathroom located outside in the back of the restaurant was filthy, with water on the floor, overflowing garbage bins with no toilet paper, paper towels sitting on the counter and unhung. This was by far one of the most disgusting bathrooms I've encountered in awhile. This place is frequented by locals, families and I was surprised they could overlook cleaning the bathrooms, guess where the staff washed their hands?The waiters, busboys all came in/out being loud and disturbing diners. They were pleasant, but the atmosphere, overall ambiance left allot lacking, and surprised by the casual, careless attitude of this operation. Never to return!!!!!!!!!!!! read more
