Flying down El Camino late night I saw a sign that read "OPEN 24 HOURS" I love donuts. I love places that are open 24 hours. I love places with parking. Royal Donuts pretty much covered all of that. . . and friendly service at 2 AM. 2 AM! This is what my life has become. Prowling the streets for late night sweets! I had great restraint and only bought 6 donuts. I ate 4 before the sun rose. They were delicious. I savored them slowly. They weren't oily like some places. They have raised, cake, crullers, fritters, croissant, bars, filled bars... pretty much any donut style and combo you love. Did I mention I love donuts? read more

First time I had to wait at this donut shop for 15 mins with no customer service no one greeting me empty store with me and the donuts alone. At this point I'm like should I serve myself and walk out. I'm saying hello 4 times loud af. No one on top of that flys all over. Some dude comes out the back yawning like he just woke up. Then laughs and tells me what would I like. Nah nah not today. This is going to be the last time you treat someone like this. I need a month free supply of donuts or something. I went here pretty late at night and there wasn't much of a selection left. I went with a chocolate twist, glazed cronut, and chocolate raised. The best was probably the cronut, gave it a solid 6.5-7/10 as far as cronuts go. The chocolate raised was mehh, and the dough in the chocolate twist was super dense, if you like that kind of donut. I prefer more of an airy dough. Probably wouldn't go back unless it was earlier in the day or I was down bad for a donut at night. read more

My favorite doughnut store!! Large variety if you get there in time. I live in SF so have tried finding one that compares at least in type I like- which are usually more on the plain side. But when I get a sweet tooth I always go for maple bars. One can find good maple bars in SF but my favorite is almond croissant and no one makes them better than here in my opinion! Large, fresh, soft and slightly sweet but not too sweet-my favorite place to get them! And unlike other places they don't put that messy powdered sugar all over!! Wish they were in SF. There are other royal dounut shops elsewhere but not the same owners or bakers. And in SF Too many expensive pastry shops here. Prefer an old fashioned doughnut. And although some good ones in SF I'd pick this Royal over them. Owners are very nice as well. And more importantly if your not into plain doughnuts they have other tasty doughnuts to chose from! This doughnut shop is definitely convenient in my neighborhood and they're open 24 hours if you are craving delicious doughnuts or if you have the midnight snacks appetite and they also, have other yummy pastries like beer claws, apple fritters, croissants, danishes, etc.. I love it when the doughnuts are fresh and they are for the most part, especially, the crumble cake donut, glazed donut, and glazed donut with chocolate on top. Going to give Royal a 4 because of the neighborhood cat. :) You have to acknowledge the kindness people show to animals especially stray little cats around the neighborhood. Also, a good thing since they keep mice/rats away, which I'm sure is the reason why the owners probably keep feeding them. Anyway, donuts are NOT like Krispy Kreme, these are the real deal - old fashion, old school, authentic and genuine. Donuts are made everyday and if they run out well they run out! Nice fluffy raised donuts reminiscent of my youth. And their version of a glazed cronut is really good! So if you're craving for a real donut instead of a small mass produced corporate donut, this is your place. I went for the first time and the customer service was fine. Great donuts and coffee, but the prices for donuts are a little high compared to what you would expect from similar places, especially if you get the less standard kinds. The way they do their eclair and cream filled donuts had to be my favorite thing about this place. They basically cut open a donut without a whole and slather a good helping of creme in it before closing it. Maybe a little messy, but it tastes great! Some pretty minor gripes: First, it's cash only unless you buy over $10 worth of donuts, which can be inconvenient because I generally don't have to carry cash for most places. Second, I'm pretty sure I haven't seen their bathroom be open for use for years. The taste of their coffee has degraded over time, they've got rid of their WiFi and the restrooms have been out of service for months now. It's Colma. What's in Colma? Cemetery, Flower shops, Stone engraving shops, Car dealers and Target, that's about it. So, why a donuts shop in Colma? Especially the road, Mission Street meets El Camino, very strange location, I must say. If you are driving headin' south on Mission Street, past San Pedro Rd, stay on the right lane, the lane take you to one of the parking spot right front of the donut's shop. You don't even turn your steering wheel. It's kind of dangerous but the most easy access I've ever experienced. It means that if there is a drunk driver chasing by police car on the right lane, this donuts shop will be smashed very easily. I don't know. Nothing wrong with that. Open 24 hours. There are few sandwiches, all about 5 bucks, but Please Don't. Don't go for it. You'll be regret. I am sure you will, only because I did. It's a rip-off cheap sandwich that I ever had. A RIP OFF CHEAP SANDWICH. I know that doesn't sound right, it doesn't make a sense but true. Was going to try this place out with a friend. I was just in their parking lot when I realized he was having a hard time finding the spot. I walked out and headed toward the street to try and flag him down when a worker came and told me, "Miss, this is private property". Lol. I'm sorry, what? Private for who? Non-latinos? Incredible. My sister used to live close to this place when it was Rolling Pin in the late 70s/early 80s and would bring over a box every so often. It was like having contraband when one of those boxes showed up! After she moved away from the area I forgot about them. How the hell did that happen? After reading about the two 5 star reviews between this and Eagle in the Mission I had to have my own taste battle. This was serious research, people! I should've applied for a grant! A classic glazed was the test subject. I got two of each, bought within a half hour of each other. Actually, I got three of Eagle's because of their 3 for the price of 2 after 2pm deal. Anyway here are my results: Eagle's was just a little more crisp outside, both crust and glaze. Soft and airy inside but enough heft to chew. Its coloring was darker than Royal's. Biting into it the glaze cracked and fell off a bit. No big deal to me, but it may be because it was the afternoon and it was about 12 hours old? Nonetheless, it was tasty, not too sweet, and I ate all three! Royal's, though...totally worth the drive! I think individually they're a dime more per 'nut but they're worth it. They're really soft, the glaze doesn't crack as much and they're a tad more hefty/chewy, the way I like them. They're a more golden color than Eagle and if memory serves, a little shinier. But also, this could have been a "younger" donut. In the end, although I very much liked Eagle's, and really like their afternoon deal, if given the choice I'd go with Royal. Next I plan to match it up with Glaze Donuts in my n'hood. I'm simultaneously hoping and not hoping that Glaze is better, for the sake of my health and waistline! read more
