Both had wonderful fillings, but I think the pastrami was the winner for me due to the sauerkraut. Apparently the sauce they use on their sandwich is their Royal Grinder Sauce and it is so good! This place is always good. They may get order slightly wrong, but i've always had a good lunch. Their bread is good, both hoagie & panini. Their garlic sauce is fantastic. The ingredients are quality as well. YEARS ago, they had great gelato. I think it was the first time I'd ever had it. I have only been using delivery for the last many years, but from the other reviews, it appears that the old gelato bins now are full of beer. And any pics for the last 12 yrs or so are sandwich oriented. So I think we can safely say RIP yummy ice cream. I particularly love The Italian, and The Chicken Pesto. I've tried The Royal and a couple others but keep coming back to my faves. I find the sammiches are plenty big enough so I avoid the extra salt; but the chips and drinks are lacking. Tim's orig seems to be their only option (at least for delivery), and Coke Zero or diet are their only sodas. Gross. And - a star. I LOVE you Royal Grinders! They closed the shop during covid, which was sad. The only thing I wish had changed is the store hours. They close at 5 pm on weekdays but I go to Fremont Brewing after work. It would be wonderful to grab a sandwich and go to the brewery. Oh well. These are amazingly delicious sandwiches. I've only been once, but I appreciate that they have a fair number of tasty vegetarian options. I got the roasted veggie, and it was delicious. The bread is toasted and flavorful, and the cheese was nice and melty, and the veggies were well-cooked and flavored. The zesty grinder sauce is also great! The guys working at the counter were super friendly. My sandwich took about 10 minutes to come out, so while it wasn't instant, it was more than worth the wait. Total with tax it was $11 for a sandwich, which is a little expensive, but these sandwiches are worth it! One thing to note-they appear to have replaced their gelato freezer section with beer and cider, so don't go and be disappointed by the lack of gelato. My husband and I decided to give this place a try after reading so many local articles and threads referencing Royal Grinders and how good the sandwiches are. I ordered the chicken pesto (so many rave reviews for it) and he got the pastrami. To be honest, I was very disappointed. While the bread was pretty tasty, the sandwich was lacking depth of flavor, and there was only a very thin layer of chicken on it. I could barely tell if I was eating a bite of meat or part of my slice of cheese. It was just bland and there was too much bread to filling. My husband's pastrami definitely had more flavor and meat, but neither of us feel the need to come here again. Went here after the Sunday market and it was great! The person working the register was extremely friendly and helpful. They let you customize the sandwiches however you want (I think the only thing is you can't request them cold based on a sign I saw.) Toasted, hot, royalty. If it's royal, then this place is perfect for a hungry princess or prince. It's not your subway, or Quiznos. It personally doesn't live up to the paseo hype, but it's one darn good sub sandwich. I honestly looked up on yelp "panini" because for some reason I was craving a sandwich with those beautiful markings on it. I came across this little local shop located in Fremont. When I scrolled through the photos, what did I see? No pictures of paninis. I only saw pictures of beautiful looking subs and I thought to myself, "if I go here, screw the panini, I'm getting myself a grinder!" Commuters, take the 32 bus towards Fremont! It's the same bus stop you would get off if you were to go to Pie or Simple desserts (both which I recommend trying as well). You'll walk and eventually see the Lennon statute (he's kinda hard to miss) and then it'll be the area with all the tables outside. Inside it's pretty small, with a few bar seating. The menu is extra simple. You have your grinders: all which come with their zesty grinder sauce (garlic Italian ranch). Their famous is the royal grinder: roast beef and ham, but I decided to get the crown grinder: turkey and ham. My partner decided to devour the Italian grinder: salami, pepperoni and ham. Both of the sandwiches have Swiss, tomato, red onion, black olives and pepperoncini. It'll take about 15 minutes because they make it fresh and toast is right after. However, they recommend calling early and ordering so that you can avoid lines and the wait time! Next time I think I'll be doing that. However, on this rainy day, I didn't mind waiting inside. I had some small chat and then I heard our names get called. Beautiful, hot sandwiches ready to be eaten. They put in their zesty grinder sauce once the sandwiches are out of the oven. The first bite, glorious. Everything melted and melded together. Even for two people who aren't fan of olives, this was delicious. The meats were decently thick slices, and there was a lot of sauce to go around. The cheese was perfectly melted and just so stringy after each bite. The pepperoncini definitely added a little bit of bite back but just ever so slightly. The bread is thick, warm, easy to bite through and divine. It looked like a small sub, but I barely managed to get through and we were both content after one sandwich. Although it doesn't compare to Paseos for me, it's still a really good sub place to try. Their sandwiches are prices fairly and it's honestly oh so fresh. Their flavors are definitely ones that I have not tried before. Definitely worth trying. read more

Oh, royal grinders. I am having withdrawals already even though I just left Seattle two days ago! I stumbled upon this sandwich shop while visiting the Fremont Troll. I am so glad I found this place. The toasted italian sub is one of the best thing I've ever tasted. It was heavenly! I never thought a sandwich could be so delicious! The gelato was great too, healthy and so yummy, many flavors to choose from. You get a small spoon sized gelato of your choice (they call it Lenny scoop) on top of your gelato cup. The staff are the best. They were so friendly! They have free water and free wifi. For such a small shop, they actually have a clean and functional bathroom too! I was also able to charge my iPhone when I ate there but forgot the charger at the shop. I called them later, they found it for me so I picked it up a few hours later. Royal grinders, I am your big fan! Too bad I don't live in Seattle. Otherwise I'd come here everyday! Visitors, please stop by this sandwich shop when you are in Fremont!
