I haven't been here in forever, maybe in 6-7 years ago. I was really hungry and wanting to eat Chinese. So this restaurant popped up being it was a buffet and near by. We go there at 4:00 pm and they said that the buffet opens at 4:30pm so we went shopping across the street and came back in a half hour. I'm glad we came here at that time as everything was fresh. All the entrees they had was items I would've have ordered anyway like Minute chicken cake noodles, fried rice, sweet and sour pork, salt and pepper pork chop, crispy gau gee. This went from 2 stars to 1 when I got serious food poisoning the next day. A friend really loves this place and wanted to take me here so I was excited to try it. When we got there, the food was anywhere from luke-warm to cold. Nearly everything was deep fried and even that was really stiff because it had been sitting out for so long. I liked the sweet and sour chicken when it was dipped in the sauce because the sauce warmed up the chicken. The next night I felt really icky but just thought it was a passing bug. All day the day after I was crippled with nausea and diarrhea. I know it's TMI but I felt like I was dying. The only reason I wasn't throwing up was because I'm so good at holding it back but I barely downed chicken noodle soup and a little pineapple and settled in to sleep at 8 pm. Another woman had the same thing for lunch and was as sick as I was yesterday. Today I'm still a little sick but much better... I'm POSITIVE it came from this place. read more

My first time here thanks to my mom who was starving and couldn't wait until we got to the birthday party at ice palace for my niece. So we popped in to get something small to eat. Customer service was great, right when we walked in the cashier greeted us and within seconds the waitress came to seat us. We ordered and our food came out pretty quickly, and we were even given complementary dessert I'm not sure what it was called deep fried dough ball filled with bean. If service was so great why 4 stars ? The food was all right, unfortunately I've had better Chinese food. I looked on yelp and saw a review about some ranting on about the black bean chicken and decided to try for myself, I was really disappointed. It should be named vegetable with black bean sauce with light chicken because they're was hardly any chicken and the taste it was all right not something I would rant on and on about. My family has been coming to this restaurant for many many years due to its convenient location for those that live in either Ewa Beach or Millilani and are craving cheap chinese food. I think the restaurant could do with a renovation, especially with the drab interior. The food is ok, great for family-style. Service has always been good, or maybe only because we frequent it so often. Have never been here for lunch. sometimes would find dead insects in our water. Carpet is extremely dirty. The restaurant itself isn't the best looking in terms of cleanliness, but that shouldn't matter too much since we all go there for the food. I love how the buffet has everything you need! This place is a total rip off. Be careful and check your bill because they will charge you a 25% tip on your bill if you have a party of 7 or more. I had a party of 6 and she charged me 25% tip. I came here just looking for something to eat in this area, and Chinese food didn't sound bad. We decided to try out the buffet since the price wasn't too bad either. It was about $30 for three of us to eat the buffet line. I come from Nevada where buffets reign supreme, and this did not even reach the bottom of my list of places to try again. The food was not very good. It was over salted, oily and a lot of the food lacked real flavor, all I could taste was the grease. I was not impressed at all. I finished my plate of food and didn't return back to get seconds. The waitress wasn't very nice either, but it also could of been the language barrier, so I wasn't too upset. The place seemed pretty decent and clean for the most part. They seem definitely 2 star worthy, and not anymore than that. I wasn't disgusted at the food or place, so they are saved from the wrath of the one star rating, but I will not be returning to this place. I used to eat here for the lunch buffet regularly a few years back when I did business in this area all the time. Came back for the first time in a few years since I was passing by and was hungry for Chinese. This place has gone WAY downhill from what I remember. Most of the food was hard from sitting out all day on the buffet trays. What was worse though is some of the items were actually SOUR / spoiled. Ok, I am the kind of person that likes old, out of the way food restaurants. Establishments with character. However, when I walked in here I instantly felt the hair on the back of my neck stand up. When I went to wash my hands in the men's restroom there were approximately 15 used air fresheners in there. All of them seemed to have been there for years. It smelled horrible. I've been to public or bar restrooms that smelled better. For some reason they had mothballs in their urinals. So, it smelled of crap, pee, and old mothballs. Not sure what they were trying to accomplish in there. But, I'm guessing it's their way of saying "get out...." Walking by the kitchen I could see that it too seemed to be filthy. Aromatically and visually it was a very scary place. But, for some reason my in-laws wanted to eat here. Hoping for the best, I tried their buffet. Thankfully the food tasted ok. It wasn't bad. But, honestly I would have preferred the food at Panda Express. It's really hard to describe the food. Nothing really stood out. Nothing tasted really bad. Nothing tasted really good either. It was all rather bland and tasteless. Visually the food didn't look appealing. But, it also didn't look too bad. There just wasn't any color to the food. Nothing stood out. Ugh I walked about 4 miles to get to this place and I was seriously hoping for something better. My woman told me about this chinese buffet near pearl harbor while I was in port with my ship and I got all excited because it was within walking distance! Needless to say my GPS led me in the wrong direction and by the time I got there, I was hot, sweaty, thirsty, and ready to feast on chinese food. I walked in and looked around for someone to greet me or a counter to walk up to or something, but I was just confused and didn't really know what to do. I was just kinda right in the middle of tables and people eating. After looking around for about 30 seconds a little lady came and sat me down and I told her I wanted the buffet of course!! First mistake - No crab rangoon. Seriously? That drives me crazy! That should be a requirement prior to opening a chinese restaurant, especially a buffet. It was kinda dirty in there too and I didn't really like the whole feel of the place. I mean I don't expect a place to be pristine but I could see stuff still stuck on the plates when I went to grab one. The chairs and tables were kinda cheap and the atmosphere was kinda weird. They didn't have a whole lot of selection either. The food that I did eat wasn't really all that bad. I didn't really know what most of it was since it wasn't labeled, but I did have some sort of sweet and sour chicken or something, with fried rice and some wonton things. It was kinda tasty but some of it looked like it was sitting for a while. They might have different things on different days but I guess I've just been spoiled with the variety of things I find at other chinese restaurants like crab rangoon, chicken wings, lo mein, mongolian beef, orange chicken, etc. Ya know... the good stuff! Not bad. Though it could have been better. Here are my reasons for 3/5 stars. Let's start with the Pros: 1) Acceptable price. Most buffets I saw at Hawaii are super expensive, especially in the Waikiki area. Once in a while, it would be nice to have a buffet for the locals, especially price affordable by the locals. 2) It's good to have buffet like these in Hawaii. Hawaii needs more of these buffets & NOT those expensive ones that the tourist usually goes to in Waikiki. Like I said, Hawaii needs a buffet for the locals, not just for tourists. Now the Cons--& please follow these suggestions/comments I stated below for further improvement. 1) Buffet NEEDS more variety. Since your restaurant serve lobsters & Dim Sum separately, I do recommend have those "1-day a week Special" where you decided to have the lobsters/Dim Sum TOGETHER with the buffet. That way you'll attract more customers. 2) Some of your cooking needs work. Especially the basics like fried rice, orange chicken, & chow mein. Please work on that. Being new to Hawaii we figured we give this place a shot as we live near Pearl Harbor and it was relatively close. We originally couldn't find the place cuz the map here on Yelp has is incorrectly located, our GPS actually got us there, but I ignored it because I saw the picture on here and knew how to get there. Should have seen the signs that things weren't going right from the beginning. We get there and it looks like any other Chinese, not to much on decorations, more of a bunch of tables and a tank with dirty water and some lobsters. I order the sweet and sour chicken, kinda the stand-by for a new place so I can get used to it, and the wife orders steamed fish. The plates and utensils were dirty, had to ask for new ones and even some of those were dirty. Had tea on the table but no sugar, I add sugar to mine, could be I'm just weird, oh well. We get the food, my sweet and sour chicken, is just that deep fried chicken with sweet and sour sauce, no veggies, pineapples, nothing else. The chicken was rubbery and greasy, had one bite and gave up on it. My wife actually enjoyed her fish, so they got that going for them. Overall a very bad experience, although the menu was rather large, it doesn't matter if you can get the basics right. We won't be going back while we are here. read more

First of all their food was HELLA NASTY especially the chow fun it had no taste! Second, when I asked about the kids price, she looks around and just said 10% off adult price, they do not have kids prices posted or age limits. My daughter eats very little, like 1 scoop of rice makes her full, they was trying to charge me $9. for a scoop of rice. Sadly, this place has gone downhill quick. My family and I have been customers for over 25+ yrs as we live just up the street. It's located in the Stadium Mall shopping center and it's really convenient for us. We used to dine-in couple times a week, and still continue to frequent here for take-out platters for parties. They used to have exceptional customer service. Very friendly, welcoming, and personable employees. Now their employees are rushed (when its slow), fly or drop things onto the table, not timely on phone orders, and there is a majorly snotty employee who seems like she may be the owner. No personality at all. Very "I dont need your business" attitude and almost like you're bothering her and she's doing you the favor of providing you food. Also, their buffet is highly falsely advertised. It says over 50+ items. Went in and literally counted maybe 30. We have said many times we wouldn't come back here, but somehow whenever there's a party we forget and order here again. Ate here on Saturday afternoon after the buffet had closed and we were just about the only ones in the Restaurant. We were hungry for linner (lunch/dinner) and ordered the special on the recommendation of the waitress. For $35.50 we got a fresh dungeness crab prepared with ginger and onions, roast duck, salt and pepper pork and eggplant with shredded chicken. The special allows you to pair either crab or lobster (if they have it) with 3 entree dishes from a long list. You have to pay extra for rice, but considering how reasonable the cost was, paying for the rice was a manini thing. Crab - excellent. Very fresh and tasty, if a little salty. We were licking our fingers. Duck - they gave us a 1/3 to 1/2 duck. OK. Not extraordinary. Skin was still a little crispy and the meat was moist. Eggplant w/shredded chicken - Very flavorful, tender eggplant in a great sauce. It was a little greasy, though. Pork chops - this was disappointing--the pork chops were tough and had little taste. We did order a 1/2 order (6) of gin doui for dessert. They were very fresh and hot and made to order. Very crispy, but not too flavorful. OVERALL - a good value, just based on the crab alone! Total bill was $44 or so without tip. A couple of misses on the entrees, but I'd come back and be more selective on the choice of entree. read more

I eat here for dinner with my family when we crave Chinese food. One of the best on the islands...great flavors on every dish. Crab or lobster special is always what we order. Prices have increase a bit, but who hasn't raised prices lately? So its totally understandable. I don't really eat here for lunch or buffet lunch....so I won't comment of that. read more

So about every twice a month we go down to pearl city side to do some errands. When we do we always have lunch at Royal Palace for their lunch buffet. It useds to be $10.95 but when we went there recently couple days ago it was $12.95 . It seems like the management changed. I noticed they changed the tables and the buffet line they have added alot more food to the line. But most of them I couldn't tell what they were. Nonetheless I always enjoy the food over there. The one thing I noticed that was different ever since the management changed was their food isnt overly salty. So I repeat my order a 4th time which was 2 order cold ginger chick and 1 roast duck. She said "fine" I asked for my total and she said $18 so I already knew it was wrong. So I ask to repeat my order and she said 2 cold ginger chicken. I then told her and 1 order roast duck. That's 5 times I repeated to her. she then yells at me on the phone and said "why did you ask for the total if you not finish". I bluntly told her "I repeated myself 5 times what I wanted to you. Even after you told me to hurry cause your busy I still repeated it 3 more times after that I asked for you to repeat cause I knew you got it wrong" she then blames me that its my fault. I told her "I have been a loyal customer to this resultant for years and never have been spoken to this way" she then argued with me and said my fault. I told her " you will no longer have my buisness or that of my family's and will order from somewhere else" she said FINE BYE. This use to be our favorite restaurant and we came her at least 4-5 times a month. I hated that they spoke to me this way as such a loyal customer and always gave them high praise. What drew us to the Restaraunt was the sign in the window for the $14.95 Dinner Buffet. We took a look at the Buffet and it looked ok. But we chose not to do it because we decided to get something to go. The waitress was very nice, and patient in getting our order! We got the Chicken fried rice-its definately not fried in a wok but it had ok flavor. Also the Mongolian beef. Hubby said the peices of meat were more like fatty pieces, but I thought it had good flavor. The chicken chow mein was packed with a sauce that was so-so in flavor. There was a good amount of chicken, noodles, and some green stalky vegetable that I didn't recognze. The chicken with chinese green beans was good in flavor. I have been a frequent customer when I lived on the Leeward side. But after I moved to town, I seldom went there. The last time I went was over one year ago for lunch buffet. Unlike other Chinese restaurants which buffet items seem to have sat out there for millenium, Royal Palace is one of the few that refills frequently. In other words, their food carries the essential "Wok Qi" -- hot steam from the wok -- the key ingredient of Cantonese cooking. Especially I loved their Stir-fried Un Choy with Ham Har. However, this restaurant got some drawbacks: (1) The chef likes to put extra portion of salt; (2) The chef uses MSG liberally; (3) Like most other Chinese restaurants in Honolulu, they use the cheap cotton seed oil for cooking; (4) The restaurant is kind of dirty -- just go check its bathroom (which I used to do whenever I visit any restaurant). read more

Hostess was so very friendly, beautiful layout of great dishes on their buffet! they kept checking the dishes and replenishing as needed. more n more kept coming out of the kitchen! The salt/pepper pork chops were da BOMB! can't put my finger on the spice in them that is a wee bit (better) different but oooooOOoh yeah! moist pork in a killah crust. Steamed fish....awesome. Chow fun, great! mochiko chicken...score!! Egg rolls actually had ingredients in them! not just a rolled dough like some places. Haupia was sooo sweet and BAM with flavor! Upon walking in. We were promptly greeted by the extremely friendly staff. The building was pretty dated but was basically what was expected of a shopping center Asian food location. The lighting was a little dim, and the staff had difficulty understanding me. The biggest qualm I had with this place was that when you purchase their buffet the drink is not included, and when the drink is purchased it is a can of soda, not a fountain. I suppose this is the profitable route, however if they are gaining more profit I hope they sink it into some repairs to the bathroom as the quality of the facility was in poor condition to say the least. Food choice was limited and temperature was off on some products (cold was warm, hot was cool) Overall, I won't be dining here again but if you are looking for a buffet place I guess there are worse options. read more

I used to really like eating here (twice a month or so) but after the "new" owner and chef, the buffet just isn't what it used to be. Hard (right, hard, not crunchy) cake noodles. So-so vegetables with some-kind-of-meat (thought one was chicken but turned out to be undercooked pork). Cold, stale fried foods (cold even though under the heating lamp?). The service is really good - friendly wait staff - and the steamed fish is still REALLY good but those positive aspects can't make up for consistently mediocre food in general.
