Location/Parking: The restaurant is located in the same shopping center as Ice Palace. There is ample parking. They have 10 minute parking for take out orders. Food: The buffet line was constantly filled up and the food was hot. The food was decent. I enjoyed the fried shrimp, pork hash and gau gee. There is a wide range of Chinese food from chow mein, chow funn, fried rice, white rice, string bean with a black bean sauce, eggplant, orange chicken, fried shrimp, fried chicken, French fries, oranges, pineapple, jello, egg drop soup and etc. Price: The advertised price is $12.95 for lunch. Ambiance: The restaurant is outdated. The decor, furniture and carpeting need to be replaced in the future. The area near the kitchen looks cluttered. Staff/Customer Service: The staff was friendly but did not provide waters to a handful of people in a large party of 50. It looks like the owner/worker's children linger at the restaurant near the cash register. BYOB: The baby shower I attended was a party of 50 and they were allowed to bring their own drinks, desserts and appetizers. Overall, it was a decent affordable Chinese buffet. I would come back for the pork hash, fried shrimp and the gau gee. read more

Long review but worth the read!!! This was our first time dining in and I am just going to take a moment to explain how underrated this place is! We like to really go all out and try several menu items at a new place. Our family of 5 ordered chicken wings, sesame balls, crab wonton, hot and sour soup, shrimp wonton soup, salt and pepper tofu, lemon chicken, general tso chicken, and Mongolian beef! It was a FEAST! We have so many left overs and we are so thrilled to get to enjoy these items again! The sweet woman working was absolutely amazing and attentive! She was funny and interacted with our children regularly which they love and we value! The restaurant was quiet and very clean. We can't wait to go back! Delicious, fresh, fun, and very affordable! I would give negative stars if I could. Stupid me keep giving this place a chance and I need to kick myself in the ass for doing that. A few years back when I dined in, it was a horrible experience. I ordered a carbonated drink and it was absolutely flat. So I changed my mind and told her I wanted the Arizona iced tea in a can. The grouchy waitress grabbed the sample Arizona Iced Tea can (unopened) sitting next to the register. When she handed it to me it was so dusty, that she blew the dust off right in front of me. How gross. Another time we were invited to a party that offered buffet. Absolutely horrible. They purposely take forever to fill the trays. I wasn't even full at the end of the party because these guys take so long to keep the Buffet filled. The workers have no personality the food is mediocre, and today they took forever just to prepare my take-out order. They explained that they were busy yet there was no one in the restaurant. Do not do not do not eat here you can drive a couple miles down the road and go to Salt Lake Chinese instead. read more

Just had the buffet and we were pleasantly surprised. Food quality was mostly good. Fried shrimp small and hard to peel but at 5:30pm on a Friday i was happy that it looked like most of the food was fresh and wasn't sitting long. We ate our $15 worth and soft serve was refreshing. I often feel crappy after eating Chinese food (msg overdose) but i fortunately felt well. Not bad for a quick cheap meal if you're in the area. read more

Dirty. Also, their fountain Diet Pepsi tasted like stale, old carbonated water. I returned the drink and asked for a canned drink instead. She then pulled a dusty, old Arizona Iced Tea used for display by the register to make my iced tea. I stopped her and said "never mind I'll just drink water." The buffet is meh. Cold, sitting for a while, and they take long to refill. Re-visited this place on 6/30/18 only because we were invited to a birthday dinner. We had the buffet. This place is shittier than ever. They had only scraps at the buffet and they took forever to refill the empty trays. I will post some of the junk ass food they offer. Don't ever waste your time here. The waitresses also have an attitude problem.. when I asked mustard again, same old shit, they give me attitude.. WTF?! read more

The scallop fried rice and chicken with vegetables were yummy. First time trying this place. I'm chinese, so I'm picky and my children are even more... they loved the fried rice we ate it all. Forgot to take pictures. But must try and will definitely be going again. read more

We came here on a busy night as it was right after graduation and there were already multiple families there for the same purposes. The pricing is affordable for dinner and they do offer military and senior discounts. The tables were super close together. There's no way to get in and out unless the people behind you also has the same idea and b lines it to the buffet line at the same time. They have quite a few choices for their entree but the desserts wasn't so good. The night we went also had an argument break out in the restaurant... so I guess we had a dinner and a show? I was close to the crime scene and thought it was a better idea to move away as punches was about to happen shortly between two older ladies over the bathroom. I think they also didn't have enough staff on hand for a weekend. Maybe they should anticipate nights that has events near the stadium. Our plates were not cleared and our water cups weren't filled. However they were nice enough to let us stay past closing. We did show up about 30 mins before closing and didn't leave until 10? read more

This is the first time I've ever ordered from this place because they just got on bite Squad . I have not been to their location so I can't tell anyone about the cleanliness of the store. However, I can tell you about the food I ordered. The minute chicken cake noodle was very very good. One of the best minute chicken cake noodles I've ever had. They also give a lot of food for the price that I paid. I ordered beef with asparagus but they ran out of asparagus so I ordered beef with Chinese snap peas. That was really yummy I ordered their beef egg foo young but it was okay. It was a little undercooked and still runny inside. All in all it's a good Chinese place to eat. read more

This is the absolute worst Chinese restaurant in all of Hawaii!!! Beware!!! I ordered Kung Pao Chicken and it came with no chili's in it. They said they were out of chili ! What??? We also ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp and it had no walnuts because they said they ran out of it. This place is over priced and the service is even worse. It is very dingy and to top it off we found a pubic hair on our plate. Come at your own risk! See the pics I posted. Beware! Stay away! read more

Went to lunch at this Chinese restaurant located in the Stadium Mall. My brother in law brother invited me so I figured free lunch . Lucky he was paying because I would not go there again if I had to pay . It was average Chinese food buffet. Your normal beef broccoli, chicken , some vegetables platters dessert and crispy Gau gee maybe a little over than 20 selections. After eating my stomach didn't feel right maybe a little too much MSG or to much oily things that I ate. Don't get me wrong for the lunch Buffet at $16.95 can't go wrong for big eaters read more

For $30.00 at a buffet, it was not good at all. Then the waitress said that a chair was dirty where my 12 year old son was sitting, and there was nothing there. I will never come back here and I suggest others don't ether. read more

I almost never post reviews but this is the worst restaurant food ever!! I am absolutely mortified!! I ordered some roast pork and it looked like it had been roasting all damn day! Then onto my supposed General Tso's chicken. I put the option to have it very spicy. You would think they would at least try......I took a bite thinking hey at least it looks good, but no this shit tasted like Syrup chicken.....deadass tastes like they cooked the chicken then grabbed some Aunt Jemima and covered this shit WTF!! Family of 14 had lunch at Royal Palace today. Only 2 waitress/waiter working but they did their best keeping our water cups filled, refilled the teapot without being asked to and removed used plates from tables before they began to pile up. Buffet wasn't quite ready when we got there. The waiter was apologetic and as soon as buffet was ready came to our tables to let us know. Food was tasty and they also have ice milk ice cream for dessert. We were so stuffed we couldn't eat the dessert fish our waitress brought to the table. read more

Not the best quality. Not the cleanest place. Not sure why I came here. Oh I remember, traffic was bad and I was hungry. Ate the $15 dinner buffet. Food was probably sitting out for a while. I've eaten at a lot of different Chinese restaurants. They offer pretty much the same things. Noodle, Beef, Pork, or Chicken dishes. Soups and appetizers. What I like about the Royal Palace Restaurant is that they offer tons of specials. I can pretty much come here any day of the week and get a dish for a good price. The flavors are good and the portions are plentiful. Today I got the Gau Gee and Char Siu Fried Rice. Got there a little after the $6.95 special ended, but was still able to get that price. I got through half my plate and now have half a plate to go for later on tonight. I might even have lunch for tomorrow. If you want some Chinese food that tastes great at a good price, you might as well try it here. read more

Seriously not worth it at all. I thought I'd support this business and give it a chance. Honestly the worst Chinese food and buffet I ever experienced. I keep asking the lady to bring out shrimp because there was only 3 pieces left (old) and she would tell me that there is some left. There was no pork chops left or other items and they refused to restock. I had a party of 6 who finally decided to just get up and leave. Save your money or spend the extra buck for some quality food. This place should not be in business, if your passion is not food then why the heck you even in business. You need more love and passion in your food, I feel like my family and I got robbed. -5 stars read more

I needed a pan of fried rice last minute so I gave Royal Palace a shot since they are close to my house. Well my fellow Yelpers are correct again. This place is not the same as the original owners. First I was disappointed with the size of the medium pan. Then pissed when I opened the foil at the party. Look at how little meat and vegetables are in it. I basically paid $49 for white rice!! We had some good choices on the buffet, but the food was very cold, the only thing that was hot on the buffet was the soup. I also noticed that there are more vegetables than meat on the entrees. This past ten days we have had a round of family members dropping every other day with a two-three day bout with the flu. Given we've all had flu shots WTF! That said, no one wanted to cook let alone smell cooking no matter how good the cook cooked. We settled on this restaurants as it is down the hill from Halawa Heights and off HB went to pick up everyone's soup orders. What were we thinking? How can you mess up soup in a Chinese Restaurant? Absolutely the worst Wor Won Ton min I have ever in my life eaten. Brown broth and the Wor consisted of only Choi Sum and not another item, as in no Min. HB's Saimin only noodles and Choi Sum. Another Egg Flower with the same brown broth, I swear scrambled eggs dumped in, peas and that same Choi Sum. Hot and Sour soup, mostly sour and the tofu was chopped so small it was blended into the soup. Ha ha at least no Choi Sum. Needless to say I will not be back. I don't care if they were next door, nope, no way. read more

Royal Palace Restaurant should have old reviews erased and have its yelp page be treated like a brand new business because it is under new management and it's in the best shape I've ever seen it. The old reviews probably scare off customers and that doesn't seem fair because it truly had improved so, so much. It's not in tip top shape, but for a casual dinner out with family, it's perfectly fine! There's nothing terribly wrong and I actually can't wait to go back. *This review is only based on the buffet.* My family and I went for the dinner buffet because we hadn't eaten there for the buffet in awhile. There are more choices than before and the quality of the food is noticeably different. For $15-17 a person for an all-you-can-eat buffet, it's amazing!! There's a wide arrange of food you can choose from (my favorites being Chinese chicken salad with their peanut (?) dressing, cake noodles, chow fun, ung choi, zucchini and chicken, clams, broccoli beef, orange chicken, and almond tofu). Prices are worth it for how much food and choices you get. New management is so much better... The young lady (manager possibly?) goes around everywhere making sure everything is okay, taking away empty plates, and refilling drinks. I should also mention that for ~$7-10, you can also get a takeout version of what's available on the buffet line similar to a takeout box you'd get at Panda Express. That's great! read more

Royal Palace is an old neighborhood Chinese restaurant located next to Ice Palace that has an impressive Lunch Buffet serving a mix of local and traditional Chinese dishes at a great value ($10.50) while maintaining single-serving quality. Let me preface this review by stating that when my mother suggested we go to Royal Palace to have lunch buffet, I flat-out refused. I usually hate Chinese buffets - they are, 99% of the time, flat-out terrible. Even the ones that were considered "reputable" by most people in the past made me gag. I'd learned my lesson a long time ago. Then my mother broke out the "spend time with family, eat lunch with us, etc." guilt trip. I rolled my eyes and gave in. I figured I'd go, eat a few bites, then go get something else to eat on the way home. What I found instead was a Chinese buffet that far exceeded my expectations. Usually buffets have a problem in that producing mass amounts of food results in very poor quality; just by the dynamic of food volume vs. heat transfer/ wok size/ burner BTU/ low skill of the chefs. So what you usually get in the trays of a typical Chinese buffet is a bastardized, crappy, inedible dish with somewhat of a resemblance to what it's supposed to be. This was *not* the case with Royal Palace. The owner/ head chef at Royal Palace was the former Executive Chef at Empress Restaurant in the Chinatown Cultural Plaza, back in its prime before he struck out on his own. Empress, to this day, easily serves banquets of 1,000 while maintaining a high standard of quality. His kitchen at Royal Palace remains the same, able to pump out tray after tray of quality local and traditional Chinese food to keep his customers satisfied. Here's what you need to know about Royal Palace: Parking: Plentiful. Royal Palace is in the same shopping center as Ice Palace, and so there's tons of parking. Food: Buffet with single-serving quality. That is difficult for buffets to do. Fried Rice, Chow Fun, some of the best Cake Noodle on this island, Crispy Skin Chicken that stays crispy and moist and tender. Sweet and Sour Pork that stays Crispy even in the perfectly balanced sauce, with inside that is tender and not tough. Fish Fillet with Ginger Scallion Soy, Szechuan Eggplant, Chicken Breast with Long Bean, Mustard Greens, Taiwanese Style Ong Choy like my mother makes it, Pickled Daikon, Beef Broccoli, Braised Roast Pork with Lettuce, Ginger Scallion Steamed Chicken, Crispy Gau Gee, Salt Pepper Prawns, Spring Rolls and some of the best Jin Dui I've had on this island (not greasy, crisp and sweet). Also, I realize that I lose most of my Chinese-food street cred by saying this but I love bastardized American sweet and sour pork. I almost never admit it to anyone, mostly because my family would probably disown me for saying it; but there's something really comforting about Americanized red sauce sweet and sour pork over steamed rice that I can't explain. Anyway, Royal Palace does this the best of anyone I've ever eaten at. I'd come here just to eat heaping plates of the stuff. Ordering: Walk in, let them know you're sitting down. Tell them you want buffet, or if you want to order something else. Go at lunch, so all the food is freshly cooked and there's no hold-overs at dinnertime. Seating: About 8 rounds of 10 and about 12 tables of 4. Service: They fill my water up and bring me tea. They remove my plates. I can't ask for much more from a $10 buffet. English is acceptable but not great. Owners are some of the kindest people I've ever known, but I've been coming here since I was a kid. Decor: OLD. Like, crappy even back in the 70's. But who cares? Cost: $10.50 per person. On a side note, coming here for actual sit-down (non-buffet) dinners, they can really pull out all the stops on making great Chinese food. They make, hands-down, the best banquet appetizer platter with the Roast Pork, Char Siu, Beef Shank, Jellyfish, etc. that I've ever had, anywhere in the US. Their Lobster and Crab preparations are also among the best I've ever had, rivaling restaurants 3x the cost; but you need to know what and how to order. The buffet is good, but if you speak/ read Chinese, there's a special menu that has great deals for great food on it. You know how in movies, they find some John Rambo guy living as some random guy in the middle of nowhere in some village and no one would ever think that he was once a super badass ex MACV-SOG that can really tear sh*t up if he needed to -- the chef at Royal Palace is like that except with cooking Chinese food. Also he's really nice so he won't stab you in the face. read more

Just got back from eating here and I am completely stuffed up to da max. I recently became an uncle, so my brother and sister-in-law decided to throw a party here to celebrate this special occasion. Located in the Stadium Mall strip mall, this Chinese restaurant is quite small for what It could be doing. The Ice Palace is basically the anchor to this strip mall and it caters to the Aloha Stadium community and to the fans who stay around here, during UH Football Season. There was plenty of parking inside Stadium Mall, so that wasn't an issue. I was craving Jack In the Box on the way in, but I was bummed to be eating Chinese. I really get bloated when I eat Chinese and feel sick afterwards. But then again, I rather come here for special occasions than a daily thing. Royal Palace was a small restaurant. With just about 20 tables or so, the party was located in the back 3 tables, filled with 8 people each. I thought there was menu service, but as it turned out, everything was buffet oriented. I guess that makes everything more simplified for many reasons. It was kind of busy when we went in at 11:30am and there basically was no waiter service. Maybe it was just because they were understaffed or something. No refilling of the water cup or anything. The buffet itself was basically 12 dishes along with rice, chao fun, or chao mein. What I really liked today, which they probably don't do every day, but they had this eggplant dish, which was pretty good. Bangkok Chef makes it better, btw. They also had that white fish, which was pretty good, but I honestly can say I have had better on that particular one. Cold ginger chicken and beef broccoli were some of the other classic Chinese dish offerings that interested me. There were others, but I tried to not overkill, since I had a UYE event planned later that evening. The buffet itself was about $10.95, which was decent for a Chinese oriented buffet. Right now, when I am writing this review, I still feel bloated and sick. A different feeling from loading up of Pho though. But anyway, Royal Palace is decent, but not terrible. While I did not get any waitress service whatsoever, this self service idea was good at best, but could have been better. Overall, I could say that the food quality was average to slightly poor, since like other reviewers have eluded to, they mass produced them and cart them out into serving trays, the quality of the food goes down quite dramatically. I guess you just know how to make food, but real good food is somewhat lost to them. The standard of quality isn't there for some reason, and it really shows in the presentation and the taste. While most people don't mind or can tell the difference, my taste buds can and I probably won't come back here, unless there is a family function to attend to here. Regrettable. They are under new management and the restaurant looks better than before! Buffet line looks good for the price. We've only gotten takeout and its pretty good for the price and location. Got their scallop soup, shrimp fried rice, beef with veggie and king pao shrimp! All yummy! read more

The BEST cold ginger chicken sauce ever! FOOD My partner and I enjoy going here because of the chicken and we live close by. Plus they have a buffet which for 15$ you really can not beat for all you can eat. And the food tastes delicious. AMBIENCE The place has been under new management for sometime and I have to say that they have definitely made improvements to the place. They've painted and changed the look of the place. It's good if you have a big party because they have tons of tables to accommodate. STAFF The staff is always friendly and when they see us walk in they kindly put out more cold ginger chicken for us. To our surprise, KRB wasn't busy that weekday evening with both private dining rooms occupied and only one other table of 4 during our arrival. I asked the family what they wanted to eat and because they are big eaters who also enjoy leftovers, our initial food order consisted of 9 different dishes that included doubling up both noodle orders. Overall, our meal was above average with family favorites of tofu casserole that was so delicious that I ended up getting another one. The seafood crispy noodles were also phenomenal as it was executed well with great texture contrast and finesse in flavors. Personally I enjoyed the free range chicken with ginger onion sauce and the sautéed lamb with leeks. We also appreciated the complimentary dessert of chilled coconut milk tapioca. Service was above average as the staff were attentive to our needs and exchanged plates halfway during our dinner. The only setback for me was the ambiance as it was semi dark and dingy. The interior could use an upgrade. Recent returned visits to KRB is truly deserving of 5-stars from me. The food exceeded my expectations where it was worthy to drag my family here and have concluded KRB is deserving to be included in our rotation of restaurants to patronize.

Highly recommend if you're looking for a nice dinner with family or just want to enjoy good Hawaiian-inspired food in Waikiki. We'd definitely come back the next time we're on Oahu!

Royal Palace is definitely my favorite Chinese restaurant, well, outside of China. This restaurant specializes in Cantonese/Hong Kong fare, and that means you're treated to fresh produce and ingredients. If you're into the "fake Chinese" food popularized by chains like Panda Express or Patti's, you're not going to get that taste that can only come from thick artificial sauces here. I suppose if I wanted that, I could stay at home and open up a bottle of Lee Kum Kee and slap it on my poor attempts at stirfy. Here, the focus is on freshness and that means a delicate balance between the meats, greens, and sauces. Among their pairings, the seafood is really the star. I mention again that the seafood is really the star at Royal Palace. In fact, most of my favorite dishes here are seafood. Must tries include Black Bean Clams (a mild balance of clams with the spiciness of black beans and fresh peppers), the Seafood Combination (a light dish of shrimp, scallops, calamari with a medley of mushrooms, snow peas and other vegetables), the Fish Fillet (delicately steamed sea bass with a sort of light shoyu and garnish base), the Honey Walnut Shrimp (mayo-citrus covered shrimp served with honey roasted walnuts), steamed Kumu (when available), and of course their black bean and ginger onion lobsters and crabs (for a special treat, try their "supreme sauce" lobster). Their dinner combination specials are pretty good deals. You're offered three choices from a menu of 38 and your pick of a Dungeness crab or Maine lobster prepared black bean or ginger onion styles, all for under $40. For the non-seafood fans, my recommendations are the Mongolian Beef, Kau Yuk (pork belly simmered in a shoyu mix), Mushoo Pork (pork and veggies wrapped in soft wrappers), Crispy Chicken, and definitely the Peking Duck, Roast Pork, and Char Siu (better than what you'll find in Chinatown). Royal Palace is very casual and draws a mixed local, neighborhood, and Chinese crowd. The decor could use some updating. And some of the waitresses could give better service. But I go for the food and the value. Most of the menu is under $10 for generous portions and you'll find yourself spending more (for less) elsewhere. You'll sometimes find the place busy with dinner parties (as they have a number of party courses) or lunch buffets (which I'll say is a hearty deal). The holidays and before or after games at the stadium tend to bring out the crowds. And the restaurant seems like a great place for a family meal after ice skating at Ice Palace. If you find yourself in the Moanalua/Salt Lake area, definitely eat at this gem. read more

Gross quality of food, stale, old, undercooked, and cold. Me my wife, and three kid's age 3 mo., 2yrs, and 4 yrs. Went there for dinner before looking at reviews and let me tell you all the negative ones don't lie. The food was stale as if it had been out since lunch; the soft serve ice cream machine was giving sour soft serve which made me gag at first taste. I then opened the top of the machine only to find they had added Ice to what was likely a warm sour soft serve mix, only to disguise it as a cold sour soft serve mix. There were fly's in the fruit cocktail ben they had on buffet. And their pot stickers tasted like they were cooked in a sweat sock. And to top it all off it was almost $50 for two adult buffets', and one half price child's buffet. Children 2 and under eat free Ha.(Paid for by the drastically overpriced Soda and adult buffet.). When confronted about the fly's the Hostess just nodded her head and said "We don't take American Express" (As if I had not said anything to her, and there was no compensation or apology.) I left no tip except for them to clean up their act. If you have not been to this place than save yourself a bad memory and don't go. Overall I am disgusted by this place and will never return. read more

This is the single most disgusting, filthy Chinese restaurant I've ever been to and i will never go back. We went to celebrate my son's homecoming from college and satisfy his Chinese food craving. All the dishes were cold and looked like it was lunch leftovers. We proceeded to walk out and told the waitress all the food was cold and not edible. She chased out the door and offered to give us 15% off. No way not even 50% off is worth getting sick. I'm surprised the board of health hasn't closed this place down. Horrible food. When we got our order the broccoli beef chow menu was super greasy and the noodles we soggy and had no flavor. The mixed veggies with mushrooms were extremely greasy as well like they were floating in the container in grease. The spring rolls tasted like the oil they were fried in was old and not cleaned. Since I work right up the road and was having a big craving for crispy gau gee and sesame balls I decided to order here. A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!! The gau gee and sesame balls had no taste. The sesame balls were burnt. BTW the floors were sticky, like someone spilled juice or soda and they didn't mop it good or just didn't mop good at all. Never coming here again! read more

The food container had gravy on the outside and the paper bag for the gau gee was very oily, but it was contained in a separate bag, so that wasn't a problem. Their food didn't really have a much flavor as I was hoping for. The crispy won ton had barely any filling. The spare ribs had mostly bones and fat, the kau yuk was tough, and the noodles were decent. The gau gee was okay, not great or horrible. For the price, there are better options. However, for the area, this is a decent choice.

There was this green onion & jalapeño mix on it but I don't like spicy so I stayed away from the jalapeños. Crispy gau gee - it was small and it tasted ok. Have seen bigger, filled gau gee. Service - the ladies came around frequently to refill our water glasses. We were given take out boxes to bring home the leftovers. Their sweet and sour sauce was good. I spooned that over everything. It was large and very satisfying. This was the best Mongolian beef on Oahu. I would like more of a wok cooked flavor but since they don't have any competition here it was good enough.
