Crab cake was pretty delicious. Not as good as G&Ms but still a really good quality crab cake.

$30 for a crab cake platter where the fries are made fresh, but are cold from sitting in the order window while front of house gossips. Crab cakes are pre cooked them microwaved and mush on the inside. Line cooks are too busy talking to each other to acknowledge the front of house unless they are ringing the service bell right in front of them. Jeremy C. and I were looking for a place to grab a quick bite before my flight out of BWi when we stumbled upon this gem. We saw a sign for steamed crabs and immediately sighed "mmm... crab....". We went in and looked at the menu. At the top of the menu were baseball crab cakes! I immediately knew what I would be ordering. Jeremy decided on the seafood platter. We waited about 10 minutes for our order, paid and went across the street to eat. I was eager to see if the crab cake would be as big as a baseball. It was pretty darn close (wider, but flatter than a baseball). One bite and I was in heaven. Each bite was full of crab meat and flavorful stuffing. It is hands down one of the best crab cakes I've had! My platter came with 2 sides and I opted for the mac and cheese and hush puppies. The mac and cheese was good, but the hush puppies were amazing! It was crispy on the outside and delightfully moist on the inside. Jeremy's seafood platter was good too. It had fried shrimp, scallops, oysters and soft shell crab. It was tasty, but nothing really spectacular. The scallops were tiny, but I think the softshell crab was the star of that dish. It was lightly fried and seasoned with old bay. For sides he had fries and coleslaw. The fries were battered and crispy,. The coleslaw was ok. We also shared their award winning crab and veggie soup. It was good, but we weren't expecting to find ham in our crab soup. Apparently they won awards for their crab soups in 96' and 97'. Me thinks they need to update their recipe if they want to win more awards in the future. A major downside to Roy's is that it's just a takeout place. There's no seating inside or out, but there's a wooden bench area across the street at the Hawaiian shaved ice shack. Even though there was no seating, I'd still recommend giving this place a try. I have been going to Roy's Kwik Corner for years. They have the BEST Cream of Crab soup in town. Tonight I went and ordered the usual for our family of 6 and when I got home I realized my baseball crabcake was missing from my bag. I immediately called and was asked for my address so they could bring it to me!! I could not believe they were going to drive my lost crabcake to my home. This place is over priced especially for such a mushy down grade crab cake. This is the home of the baseball crab cake and all, yeah. However, if it's a baseball crab cake, it would be a plastic baseball from toys r us. If you're a REAL Marylander you will NOT appreciate all these shells nor the extra filler. read more

Let me start by saying that you haven't had crab cakes until you have been to Roy's in Glen Burnie. The seafood is fantastic and they also have chicken. I've been going to Roy's on and off over the last 20 years and the food has always been great until last spring for me. I had been going through a crab legs craving for about a month and stopped couple times to get some and they were delicious until about a month after that and had problems twice with the legs being ice cold... Like right out of the fridge. Naturally the owner had them redone and took care of the bill. Wasn't his fault, just question the hirees at times. I haven't ordered any since as it kind of killed that. Friday night, I ordered crab dip. Shouldn't have. Was in an aluminum foil container like food comes in but needed a much smaller container as the dip was only about half an inch across and was very bland. So disappointed. Never even tasted Old Bay or really anything other than mayo and cheese with the crab. It's a shame cuz I usually love that place. read more

I love this no frills carry out if you like MD style seafood this is must visit it's still family owned by the same family I love the fish sandwiches you can pretty much order any fish they have fried or broiled and in a platter or sandwich they also make a delicious cream of crab soup you walk in it's usually always busy but you place your order and it's ready almost always in 15 minuets or less and always super fresh you name it they probably have it on the menu just don't expect nothing fancy here but the food is delicious read more

I've been coming here for years during lent. I've been here and G&M but I kinda prefer fried over broiled. I always order the baseball crabcake platter with two sides. I called in my order and it was ready upon arrival. I drove it all the way back to Baltimore and my food was still warm. This is the most amazing crab cake I've ever had. Had it on a sandwich with fries on the side, which were pretty good too. The crab cake is big with huge chunks of crab meat and no fillers and not over-seasoned. It was perfect. It wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny. The service was friendly and prompt too. I've been here twice. I must say its a nice sub shop and its local, nothing fancy. While I haven't had it all the menu items the seafood I've tried has been good. Good: -Cream of crab soup -Onion rings -Shrimp salad sub -Seafood sub (my dad loves it) I look forward to trying more of the menu soon. If you come often they remember you by name. I'm willing to give this place another try... but first impression was pretty terrible. I ordered a few things so i could try a variety. I ordered a banana milkshake, got home and realized they had made me a vanilla one. The cream of crab soup was the WORST cream of crab I have ever had. I do not know how some people are raving about it on here. It was disgusting; it was like a really thick crab pudding... nasty!!! The crab dip was pretty bad as well, I took two bites and threw it away. The onion rings were pretty good.. and the crab cake was okay. I can get a better crab cake at Crabtowne right down the road. Also for those of you who are picky eaters or have allergies, their crab cakes are made with mustard. I may possibly go again and try a burger or something but everything Crab there is terrible. My friends and I went here on on an early lunch break (before 11 am) for takeout and were served pretty quickly and the ladies were courteous. I ordered the little Roy crabcake platter takeout and I'm happy with the portion of the crabcake, whereas the portions on my side potato salad leave me much to be desired. The garden salad I bought separately was fresh and was a good-sized portion I couldn't finish it. For a simple but yet good crab cakes, this small corner deli convenient store makes homemade and tasty food. The store is a take out but the price is typical. For example, a small crab cake ball is $2.50 each and a (really) small cup of soup chicken noodles is $3. In this economy, good food from a Mum and Pup establishment wont' save you money. Crab soup is so thick, but not creamy like a cream base but instead is more chicken broth with a thickener like gelatin and there is hardly any crabmeat. The crab cake has nice chunks of backfin but soooo much mustard it is overwhelming and I didn't finish my sandwich. Fries were cold and customer service was really lacking. I have always enjoyed coming to this sub shop for crab cakes and quick carryout. The shop is plain and nothing fancy but that's what Glen Burnie is all about. I love the seafood counter and in the fall the smell of steamed crabs just makes you want to go and get a bushel. The parking is a little tough sometimes except during coronavirus when the place is empty. Overall excellent service and food is fantastic. read more

I am a fan of this place. I like their cream of crab but don't love it. The soup is way too thick for my taste. The soup has won tons of awards. I seem to be an oddball. They are a bit over priced for my liking. The fried seafood is good. French fries are not good. Since this is a takeout only place they didn't consider that when choosing their fries because they are soggy and gross by the time you get them home. Their deserts are not that great. They look good when ordering but when you get home you realize that your eyes lied to you. It tastes like 3 day old cake. The icing is off tasting and the actual cake is dry dry dry! First off, Roy's is a carry out. Not a restaurant. So folks, don't whine when you can't find a seat. It's takeout, only, in a small, one-counter Mom and Pop store. That being said, the food at Roy's is delicious, and made to order. Their shrimp salad sandwiches are huge, made with jumbo shrimp and a healthy portion of Old Bay, which is a must. The cream of crab soup is well know in the area, full of crab meat, thick and yummy-- a little pricey, but worth it. Fried mushrooms are good too! I often get their turkey club sandwiches; they are so huge you can't fit them in your mouth (which I don't mind at all). The hot roast beef sandwich comes with fries-- get them smothered in gravy and you'll think you died and went to heaven. My boyfriend's favorite is the chicken salad; he swears it's the best he's ever had. The crab cakes are just the way you'd want a Maryland crab cake to be. Size is good, too. Worth the price. Did I mention their shakes? Homemade, with ice cream, whipped cream and a cherry. More like a dessert than just a drink. If you can, call in your order 15 minutes before you go.
