I was a bit hesitant coming to this place after reading reviews on the curry. To my surprise, all the foods I ordered turned out great! We had a party of 7 and was seated right away. I absolutely love this restaurant so much! The aura is unmatched and it is extremely fancy and beautiful inside. I was more impressed however, with the lady at the front desk! It was a first time but as soon as we walked in she brought us fancy menus and hot tea, urging us to have a seat. I tried to explain I was getting it to go but she paid me no mind and she made sure we were comfortable while we waited. Her service was amazing the entire time which is why I tipped and I never tip for pickup! As far as the food OMG it is amazing!!!! 2nd visit for the lunch special. Ordered the red curry which comes with rice, an egg roll and soup. I skipped the soup and got extra rice. The curry was flavorful and the chicken cooked perfectly and sliced thin. It was really hard to stop eating, and when I finished it, I was craving more. That's what you call great Thai food! Unassuming and situated in a strip mall, we walked in to the smell of floral cleaning products and not of aromatic Thai cuisine. Gave it chance based on the reviews, easily the most mediocre food we've had in Plano. Curry puffs were small, dry, and hard, zero puff just dense and tasteless. Thai coffee was watered down instant coffee and a hint of condensed milk. My guest ordered the Lemongrass chicken curry and instead of telling us they were out of lemongrass they replaced it with pineapple and it screamed sweet and sour sauce. I ordered the pad kee mow not even a trace of wok flavor, undercooked shrimp, and just sadness. The servers kept coming by our table itching to bus our tables and asked if anything was wrong, at least 6 times. Not a great vibe. Bill was $70 and I've had better at Panda for 1/4 price. read more

They had some good Thai food. I had curry. Level 5 hot was just right for me. It was very flavorful. Spring rolls were the usual. We went for lunch. It was a bit crowded. Not bad. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes Thai. read more

When we called, the guy taking the order couldn't speak much English and we were certain he was going to get our order down wrong. That's how you know a place is going to be good- if the people there barely speak English and the menu is translated at a subpar level. When we arrived at the restaurant, we could tell the food was going to be delicious just by looking at the interior decorations. Authentic restaurants have a way of decorating their place that just lets you know the food is going to be real. The food was delicious and the prices weren't too high given the portions. The food was out of this world delicious. Service was very personal, friendly and attentive all the way from bringing the dishes in a timely manner to making sure my hot water for the Ginger Tea was always hot and fresh. My wife and I each got a separate dish and shared, and both were winners!! We will definitely be going back again, and again, and again to try each item on their menu! Amazing and sweet services!! I felt like I was being taken care of by grandparents and family there! I got the pad see ewe and my bf for their red curry. We both had ours at a 3 spice and it was good. The pad see ewe was a little too sweet for me and a little too saucy for my liking. The curry was delicious though! OMG...I grew up in Montana in the 60s and 70s--there was no Thai food. I married in '79 and moved to LA where I discovered Thai food and fell in love. 14 years later we moved to Texas and there were Thai restaurants, but none of them was as good as the one on Fairfax Blvd in LA. But here I sit, almost 30 years later and I'm FINALLY eating the Chicken Pad Thai I remembered! I'm so happy :D. Y'all are pricey, but it's worth it. read more

jan 7th 2022 it's the new year and we decided to order delivery from Ruang Thai. i ordered the Pad Ma Kya the eggplant like the last time. when i got to the table and opened the container, it looked only half full compared to the last delivery we got from Ruang Thai. only 50% of the container was filled with eggplant. i didn't know what to think. did they just decide to give me less or did the Uber Eats driver chomped down on my beloved Pad Ma Kya before delivering it. the more i thought about it, the more it made me feel ewww thinking that if another stranger got into my food then should i eat it? covid and all. i mean really, the difference between this time and last was very obvious. i will try and leave a picture so you can see the difference. no matter, i still ate it and the food was delicious. i am just glad i have natural immunity. i will look at this as a one off and not something the restaurant is doing but i can't speak on the Uber Eats driver part. that's just gross on his part. read more

I love Ruang Thai! It's a great lunch option and it's always plenty of food. The lunch special comes with entree, steamed rice, egg roll and soup or salad (get the Tom Yum soup). This place is more authentic than many other Thai restaurants and the little lady that owns it is soooo sweet and friendly! My favorite dish is the Green Curry with chicken and the curry puffs are amazing although I wish they were bigger (cause I can eat about 400 of them!). Tip: They are closed on Wednesdays so plan accordingly for great Thai food. I've never dined in unfortunately but maybe someday. The interior is quaint but I cannot comment on the service. read more

After reading the rave reviews on Yelp, we were excited to try this place. However, it was somewhat a disappointment. The food was actually better than many other Thai restaurants in the area, but I guess our expectation had been too high coming to this place. We ordered the following: - Fresh Roll with Tofu - Satay Tofu - Green Curry with Tofu - Pad Kee Mow with Seafood - Sweet Rice with Green Tea Ice Cream & Black Rice Pudding (pictures attached) All were pretty good- above average, but not spectacular. The service by the lady owner was also friendly and attentive. Their prices were a little bit high (vs. most other local Thai restaurants), especially given its not-so-premium location (in a strip mall at Custer x 15th St.). Therefore, it further reduced the C/P ratio. The best Thai food we have had in the area so far still goes to "Thai Green Village" in Frisco! read more

For years and years, I have measured all Thai restaurnats against Jasmine's. Well, Jasmine has finally met it's match. The Thai iced tea is perfect. The duck rolls were the best use of duck I've ever tasted, not to be missed. The entre containing bean thread (forgot the name) is fantastic. So is the one with fried chicken, lemongrass, and basil - light, perfectly crispy, not greasy. The curries are just slightly better at Jasmine's still, but the overall variety of options at Ruang even the playing field, if not win entirely. Ruang is BYOB. Service might be a little slow on busy nights, but we went on an off night and found out how incredibly nice the owners and staff are. read more

I have been to Ruang Thai over 20 times now. Love the way owners take care of guests and love the food. Having said that... I do have 2 big issues with this place. 1. Spice Consistency: They are not consistent at all with the spice level. I always order Medium spice (***) on all my dishes but its a hit or miss most of the time. Sometimes it feels like eating 1* and other times I need cold milk to tone down my burning tongue. 2. Service: The owner take all orders and also take care of issuing the bill. This makes the process extremely slow (especially if you venture out here for lunch). They should hire 2-3 servers and make them take down the orders as well. Would be a lot more efficient. Ok! now, will I be back here? Of course... but will do take-outs only. I don't want to spend 2 hours sitting here with a glass of water. read more

Wow! Pleasantly surprised! My husband and I were craving mango with sticky rice, so we searched up Thai restaurants. This one was close to home and had great reviews. We gave it a try. Ordered a chicken pad thai fresh. A spicy pork and shrimp fried rice, also fresh . A crab fried rice and crispy fried chicken that my picky 4 year old son devoured! This Thai place was excellent. They have these special duck rolls that were wrapped in Rothi bread and amazing sauce. We had 2 orders of it because it was that good! Loved the desserts. They made this special desert for us that was off menu and had condensed milk with roti and ice cream. They are very friendly and fast. A very clean and quiet atmosphere. Came here with my friend and o-m-geeeeeee. This place was fantastic!!! We had the duck rolls, red curry with pork and the basil chicken. For dessert we had the mango sticky rice. The duck rolls were ah-may-zing!!!! Omg. I wanted more of just those. But I was ready for the red curry to warm me and my tummy. What a great find! I ordered the Massaman Curry with spicy level 3 for pick up. The perfect spicy level for me. The curry made my nose run and my lips burn but just the right amount. My order was already wrapped up and ready to go by the time I arrived. The inside is lovely, beautifully decorated, and very clean. The woman who helped me as I paid for my order was amiable and sweet. They even added an egg roll on the house. A pleasant little surprise when I got back to my office enjoy my lunch. Pineapple fried rice, larb gai, spicy Thai fried rice and lemongrass basil fried chicken. You have to order the pineapple fried rice. This is how fried rice should taste like. The flavor is just enough where it's not salty with soy sauce. There's cashews, raisins, pineapple, dried pork, and beef/chicken/pork/shrimp (your choice). A little bit of green onions and cilantro to add a little extra bit of flavor. The larb gai was not anything special. However it was still good. I only say this because I make it better at home. Portion was a little smaller on the portion size than I expected for that price. It could have used a little more fish sauce and lime juice I think. Spicy Thai fried rice was spicy. It had that almost burnt taste in most good Thai food when it's cooked properly in a wok. It was refreshing to taste this again. Lemongrass and basil chicken. If you're looking for something very cultural, this would be it. There are deep fried bits of battered chicken and basil leaves. The lemongrass and basil flavor is very strong. Would def order again the pineapple fried chicken and lemongrass basil chicken. It's byob! The owner is a short lady, very sweet. All waitstaff attentive also, waters refilled constantly. Just finished my meal here and was very satisfied! The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food came out quickly, but not too quick that sacrificed taste. Portions were just right to generous. I started with the Ruang Duck Roll and it was pretty good. I think a little less of the flour roll and a little more duck would be good. Didn't taste enough duck, but the flavor was great. Presentation was also great. I ordered Pad Kee Mao for the entree (my usual first dish at a new Thai restaurant I'm trying). Flavor was great! The veggies were cooked perfectly. Some places don't cook it enough and it's too crunchy. They didn't skimp on the chicken and the dish wasn't fluffed with a bed of lettuce beneath it. The decor isn't quite as elaborate as other Thai restaurants I've been to, but it's nice with chill Thai tunes. The restrooms are clean. read more

This place had the highest rating for Thai restaurant. So we decided to check this place out, it turned out to be a disappointment. We ordered 1. Appetizer - Chicken Patty 2. Red curry 3. Thai spicy fried rice 4. Dessert - Mango sticky rice All these foods we ordered were recommended by the waitress. Chicken patty had really thick crust which was hard to bite into and it was way overpriced for an appetizer $9. Red curry was very watered down version of the original red curry. It was more like a soup. You cannot simply find any chicken pieces in it. it was filled with vegetables that weren't cooked properly. Thai spicy fried rice is too oily and wasn't flavorful as it has to be. The only item we thought OK was the dessert. read more

Great atmosphere and just a wonderful gem in a town full of so so restaurants.
