I was SO excited to find out that Rubio's has cheese shell tacos ! This is such a win for anyone doing keto/low carb or even if you just don't want the tortilla! I went with the classic taco trio plus I added the Salsa Verde Grilled Shrimp Taco. I got 2 steak and 1 chicken, and it was hard to choose because they were both so good. I was going back and forth like.. do I want more steak or more chicken? so of course I had to add the shrimp too. Everything was fire ! I will say, the tacos are on the smaller side, so don't be surprised, but they're definitely not skimpy on the meat. They're still packed with flavor and filling. I was a little unsure at first because of the size, but four tacos got the job done. This spot itself is really nice it has an open layout with plenty of seating both inside and outside, which I liked. Customer service was also super friendly and welcoming. Came in today for Taco Tuesday and it was great again. I'm a big fan of Rubio's Coastal Grill and I really enjoy their fish tacos $2.50 each smoking deal . The food was fresh, everything tasted good, and the customer service was on point. Staff was friendly and the service was quick, which made the visit smooth and enjoyable. The only downside for me was the men's restroom. They don't have a working urinal it's been covered and there's only one toilet available. I'm not sure if they plan to fix or replace it, but it's been like that for over five months. Besides that small inconvenience, everything else about this location has been consistently good. :( read more

I ordered the Carnitas Macha Bowl via the app. My order was ready within minutes of placing the order. The portion size is not very appealing. The bowl feels half full. Citrus rice taste more like bland white rice. Carnitas taste like soft shredded chicken jerky. The only things that saved this meal were: 1. I was hungry. 2. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful. I've been a fan of Rubio's fish tacos since first tasting one at the Del Mar Fair decades ago. I signed up for the Rubio's website and was offered a free taco. I also received an offer for a free insulated tote bag on Friday the 8th only. That did it, I showed up at the H Street Rubios at 10:45, and was surprised to find a lengthy line. One thing waiting in line for 18 minutes will do is to allow you to observe how the restaurant is running, and perhaps determine the need for a line at all. The first thing I noticed is that employee Sahra was multi-tasking like crazy. She was taking orders, processing credit and debit cards, accepting cash and making change, running food to tables, calling out ready To-Go orders, and dispensing tote bags to coupon holders. There was an unused register position about 5 feet to her right. OK, now we know why there is a long line: Failure of management to provide appropriate personnel for a planned event, the tote bag giveaway. My free taco was the Fish Taco Especiale. A small Coke ran $2.29, and they had Vanilla Coke, a favorite. A word about the taco, which tasted fine. The corn tortilla was not large enough to contain the fish filet, slaw, white sauce and guacamole, resulting in basically, a sloppy hand full. Apparently, either due to fashion or cost-savings, the tortilla has shrunk over the years. I give this place five stars because of their fish tacos! My uncle took me here for the first time and I can't get enough of it' the fish is nice and big! How it should be! I should not be able to close the taco! These are the best fish tacos I have had! I like this location it isn't super tight. It was very clean and the people were super nice! I didn't know they put their food on glass plates when you dine in so I was like WOW. Cool. It's kinda tex mex...but the fish tacos are the bomb. I like their salsa bar with some chips and beans. If was really nice of him. The food was good. Got classic fish tacos, and especial burritos with chips and quac. My daughter doesn't eat fish/meat and the lady that took our order was kind to make suggestions. Portions were also spot on. My only reason for knocking a star off is the bathroom. It's run down and a bit dingy. It's clean but definitely needs some touching up. Also, for the life of me will never understand places that offer kids meals but don't have changing tables. It's 3 tacos which consist of a grilled mahi mahi taco, a shrimp taco, and an original fish taco. They were all good and prices comparable to other places. Food is always fresh here and good. I decided to get a chicken grilled burrito. It came with tortilla chips on the side. There was a salsa bar near the drink station. All I paid for was the fountain drink which isn't too bad. It was $2.00 and some change. The lady at the register gave me my drink cup along with a number. We sat at a table while we waited for my food. Food came out quickly. The burrito seemed small for what you normally would pay. I managed to share my food with my daughter. It was just okay. The tortilla chips did not taste fresh but was edible. The tomatoes in the salsa smelled rotten, all the container lid for the salsa was bubbled meaning it was sitting in the fridge for a few days due to the gas inside the tomato. Fish taco wasn't cooked well as the same for the shrimp and corn tortilla. Chips were stale. Time for new ownership and time for new cooks. . When my husband and I were in high school and students at SDSU, Rubio's was our go-to place for fish or shrimp tacos. Before yesterday, it was a long time since the last time we went. I'm very happy to see that, besides the decor, not a lot has changed in the franchise. I usually get the original fish taco plate, but I wanted to try something new so I ordered the coastal trio (original fried fish, grilled shrimp, blackened tilapia). Everything was delicious, I definitely found a new favorite! I ordered food through Uber eats from Rubios, the food was over an hour late. It came cold, the food was not a lot they were very stingy with the portions. The price was super high for the portions. We asked for utensils and there were none in the bag. I try to give a business three chances before I post something negative about them and this is their third strike. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again. Which is a shame, I don't eat a lot of fast food and I'm picky and I love Rubios. Side note Something weird happened between the restaurant and Uber, the receipt says my order was done and picked up at 8:22 pm. the latest the app says I would get my Oder was 8:30 and we didn't get our food til past 9:30 pm. So we came here for Taco Tuesday and I had my dog with me so I figured I could sit outside with him. It was pretty cold so I asked if they could turn on one of their 4 heaters, and the guy said they don't work...really? all 4 of them? Not cool. So the tacos themselves were pretty good. They weren't consistent though. The BF and I got a total of 6 tacos to start and some of them had more sauce than others, more of one kind of sauce than the other, they didn't all taste the same....Then the BF wanted more tacos so he got 3 more tacos for us and this time we got them on Flour tortillas (which i prefer and forgot to ask for first time around) and it was so mushy!
