The service here was phenomenal. I'm a big Rubios fan and was visiting from Texas and stopped at this venue. Everyone was so nice and accommodating. I had my dog outside with us on the patio and one of the staff members kindly brought us a water bowl for her! That was so thoughtful! We've never had a restaurant be so accommodating with our dog before. The food of course is delicious and the restaurant itself is very nice and clean. I randomly had lunch there a few days ago and I have to say that my experience was great. There was this guy working there named Fernando that went above and beyond customer service. He bused people's trays for them, Walked orders over to everyone waiting for their food and was just really friendly. My lunch was great and the place was clean. Good experience! read more

Rene the manager was incredibly rude when I asked how much longer it would take since my friend and I were waiting for our food for 30 minutes. Are we at Javier's or rubios? I highly recommend the chicken tacos. I always order them with just cheese and guacamole and rice instead of beans on the side. Despite the special ordering, they always get it right and never have an attitude with it. My only gripe: there is a shelter nearby and so there are almost always some certifiable crazies lounging around. Which makes me nervous with the salsa bar that is out of view from the employees. (Germophobe much?) This is not Rubios fault though and so I still give them the 5 stars. I just have to give myself an extra dose of courage before going inside, knowing the dude at the table next to me may start arguing with his unviable friend at any given moment.... That said, the employees do walk around and ask how you're doing. So I think they are aware of the situation. read more

The original fish tacos rock. That too on tuesdays, its half the price. When we stayed in costa mesa, we would go to Triangle Square to watch cinema on tuesdays (there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays the ticket is like $4 a person!) and on the way back we buy tacos from here. Their salsas are too good. Never got the same taste anywhere else. read more

Saw the special written on a whiteboard....2 shrimp taco PLATE. Ordered to go. What I expected: 2 shrimp tacos, a generous portion of rice, beans and chips. Paid $7.99. What I got: 2 shrimp tacos, NO RICE, a small cup of beans and a handful of chips. Perfect for an 85-year old grandmother.....not a 6' 1" hungry man. Worth it? NOT AT ALL!! I remember when Rubio's gave you generous portions for a reasonable price.....no more. The only time I'll consider returning is on Tuesday nights for the $1.50 fish tacos. This Rubio's is located at a pretty cool spot in Costa Mesa. There are seating indoors and out under a patio. I like getting the chipotle ranch chicken salad. (check under photos) It comes with chicken, lettuce, a little cojita cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo, and these tasty tortilla strips. I like their salsa bar with 4 different kinds of salsa, onions and cilantro, pickled jalapeno/carrots, lemon and limes. And sometime during the year, they've got lobster burritos which are not so bad. read more

I heart Rubio's. I come here so much the manager starts making my tacos before I even get to the front. Two fish tacos on Flour tortillas. I love how they come wrapped up with a little fresh lime for you to self squeeze on those delicious little dreamy fish pillows they call tacos. $1.25 on Tuesdays cant be beat, though I never seem to end up here on Tuesdays. I've tried the shrimp tacos just to be daring, but they paled in comparison...Ok now I'm hungry. read more

Lovely wife suggested we dine at Rubio's on "Taco Tuesday" - $1.50 fish tacos. I've never never been a fan. I've always thought Rubio's fish tacos were unimpressive at best. After this experience, I can say they are plain bad. The batter is a salty mush, their cabbage is shredded too thinly, and their tortillas are rubbery. To top it off, their salsa bar condiments are less than fresh. read more

Love this Rubios! Very friendly staff and very quick with their orders. I order the Gourmet Steak Two Taco Plate almost everytime. It's perfect with bacon, carne, avocado, baja sauce and onions. I love Rubio's but today is the last time I will visit this location. For the third time my order has been messed up even after going over it twice to be clear with the employee. Because onions make me sick I ordered Nachos with no pico. But that is apparently very hard to put into the computer because they continue to get it wrong. Great shrimp tacos. Good for a quick stop, you will spend about 10 bucks with a drink maybe 12. Good salsa bar, located next to Cold stone and a juice bar so there are a few options to snack. My stop is the BevMo for their beer selection. read more

It was my first time at Rubio's- I had just signed up for the email club after my friend had ranted and raved about how good it was. It did not disappoint! Service was great, they put up with my indecisive self perfectly and were constantly friendly. Avocado Corn Fish Taco was BOMB. Only thing I didn't like was the salsa. Not the best I've had. Definitely going back, can't wait to try more! EDIT: Okay, so I was a bit starry-eyed the first time I went in light of the free taco I got. However, upon my second visit, things were not so grand. I ordered a chicken burrito and........ disappointing, to say the least. It was very small and almost flavorless. A HUGE step down from the fish tacos that I had the first time. read more

The manager here is super attentive and friendly. I was treated better here than at much fancier restaurants, even with it being during the dinner rush! The tilapia burrito I enjoyed was a tad spicy for my tastes, but had fresh ingredients and tasted good.
