I was hungry during lunch time, so I decided to drive to Downey Landing. Rubio's was the first restaurant I glanced towards. So, I proceeded to this establishment. Everything looked new, as I hadn't been to a Rubio's in a long time. I asked for recommendation, and the lady at the counter recommended their Especial Burrito. So, I got myself a chicken one of those. By the time I helped myself to the condiments, salsa, etc. they had the burrito ready. Sweet! Especial Burrito was $8.18 with tax. This burrito was very delicious. Their packaging was good and retained the burrito shape and texture by the time I returned back to work a few minutes later. The various layers of burrito could be tasted with every bite (doused by copious amounts of their salsa). Value for the price is decent. The Picante salsa could have been a lot spicier. Both the Picante and Chipotle salsas were a little too sweet to my taste buds. I will definitely be back! Updated 3/2/2018. Bumping this to 5 stars. Coastal Trio is an excellent value for fresh food quality as well as quantity wise. Staff are so welcoming and very pleasant to interact with. I've been visiting this location since it opened and I can say for all the years I've gone there, the quality of the food and service has been outstanding. I've never had one complaint and always enjoy returning. It has consistently improved over the years and the last time I visited I had a large order and was amazed at the quality of service I was given by Victoria. She was very polite, patient, and knowledgeable of the food items which was perfect me for this specific order. Victoria was most importantly helpful and went the extra mile by offering to assist me with bringing the order to my vehicle which I was extremely grateful for. Everything was prepared faster than I expected and I can't recommend this place enough. The level of customer service I was given is something that is extremely rare nowadays which is why I'm taking the time to really highlight how positive of an experience this last visit was. I look forward to returning and appreciate this location very much. It has been great to me over the years and has continually improved in a time where most customer service representatives are doing below minimum expectations for service. As someone who really enjoyed Rubio's in my highschool years, this location was very disappointing. I always order the California bowl from the location I usually go to, so that is what I ordered here. The rice was in a weird state of porridge-like but also very dry (still confused at how it is possible). The pinto beans were so strong that the bowl tasted solely of pinto and sauce. My boyfriend ordered the shrimp tacos, but they looked like they were run over by a tire few times. The taste of the tacos were okay, but definitely did not live up to my expectations. I was also let down by this location not having a sauce cart where I can pick and choose my sauces, lime/lemon slices, and onion/cilantro mix for my meal. It may also be because of COVID-19, so I can understand this. I don't think I will be going back to this location again, but Rubio's on its own I recommend! read more

You know you're in trouble when your daughter tells you to get her a Shrimp Bowl and it isn't even on the menu. Kind cashier rang it up as a California Bowl with shrimp, but when I sent my daughter photo of menu, she told me what she wanted was actually a Mexican Street Corn bowl with shrimp. I like everything I've tried on the menu. They're really fast and I've never been unsatisfied with Rubio's food. I frequent Rubio's a lot since I don't eat land meat of any kind (no beef, pork, or poultry). This place is always clean, food is fresh, service is friendly, and it's fast. Rubio's was one of my favorite restaurants growing up. In fact, my love for Mexican food and Baja style meals stemmed from Rubios. I would order about 2 shrimp burritos and the grande bowl. The meals were utterly delicious and I could not get enough. I'm giving it 5 stars solely for the taste of the food, because the quantity of the food went down a bit in the past few years. The pricing increased and the quantity decreased. Basically the downfall of every good restaurant. I still love the food to this day and I always will, if it were cheaper however and they brought back some of their old menus I would eat here again every weekend like I used to. I always recommend Rubio's strictly for the taste, because it is by far the most delicious Mexican food I have ever tasted! Give it a shot! read more

The 2016 Yelp 500 - Review #173: WHY ENTER A BUILDING AND YELL OUT "TEAMSTERS!"?: On the day I came here a mildly raving, perhaps homeless, man approached people in a threatening manner and with some sort of death-wish (?) he tried to start a fight with a large group of construction workers outside. Then he entered Rubio's. Shortly thereafter 5 or 6 police officers showed up, after local security was ineffective at diffusing the situation. The officers searched him and he did become a Rubio's customer under the watchful scrutiny of the police. Local law enforcement ensured that the customers were not bothered and the rest of my experience was, thankfully, less exciting. Nice job DPD! HOW IT WORKS: If you have never been here. You simply place your order and pay for it at the register. Next, the cashier gives you a number that is attached to steel holder that vaults the number high off your table. When the order is ready the server locates your number and deliver the food to your table. My food delivery occurred prior to the police showing up... so I kept the steel number holder to use myself if the crazy man decided to assault people at my table. MY FARE: I had the chicken quesadilla and it was just OK. Lots of tortilla with not so much filling. Noting that the salsa bar was a minor highlight, with the mildest one being less a treat than, say, a store bought salsa of the same temperament. The chipolte flavored salsa was quite savory and nice compliment to the leftover piece of doughy tortilla. BOTTOM LINE: I would rather have the burrito-shaped quesadilla from El Taco instead (even I don't get the shape or the fact that it isn't grilled or pressed). Love me some mahi mahi grilled fish tacos yummy! My hubby loves there beer battered fish tacos. There salsa bar has some bomb flavors going on. The food here is made to order fresh and so so delicious. My family says yes to Rubios Kids love there rolled tacos. It's a win when everyone is enjoying what they are eating. I know the price is rather high compared to so many other places around LA but it is higher quality ingredients (not just the meat) and they offer deals all the time by email, phone, and in store. This place isolated at the Downey Landing.. So there are other places to eat if you are with a group and not everyone is feeling the same .. Today I came in and I found it to be waaaay Too cold inside the restaurant.. Uncomfortable cold! It feels like 40 degrees in there .. I been here before and it's never been this uncomfortable..
