Rainbow Bowl with fish
Jay S.

People are really sleeping on Rubio's and I was one of them! Up until a few months ago I hadn't been to a Rubio's in almost 10 years. Luckily that changed and I am so glad I found out they also have bowls now, plus the amazing Taco Tuesday special. Everybody needs to try the Rainbow Bowl, it's my absolute favorite and I even got my entire family hooked on it too! The fish tacos are always a classic, but I'm so glad that I started going to my local Rubio's recently, my experience here has been fantastic each time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I even ate inside on my last pickup order since it's always so clean and we'll kept, and I got to enjoy my food extra fresh![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Let me start by saying I loveeee Rubios and always get the fish tacos. On 6/11 I DoorDashed 3 plates and they had mold on the inside and outside of the tortillas!! My boyfriend and I only realized after eating 4 out of the 6. I feel so gross at the fact that they all probably came from the same bag of moldy tortillas. Just make sure to double check your tacos before eating at this location!! Also to top it off the lemons they gave us were actually rotten.

Had to make a stop here since all the rubios locations closed in the Bay Area. Got the classic fish tacos. Service was quick, and staff was friendly. The salsas are my favorite and are what really make the fish tacos delicious. Definitely miss the fish tacos tuesdays because their fish tacos are so good and crispy!!

I grew up eating Rubio's fish tacos, and out of nowhere had a craving for them! I got the classic two taco fish plate with a side of beans and chips. I was pleasantly surprised by the price of the plate, which was $11 for everything! The fish tacos have their signature flavor and light crispy batter. The fish was really delicious with the medium salsa and Crema on top. However, the beans were a bit bland and could have been seasoned more. Nothing a little salsa won't fix. Service was nice and I saw the cashier treat the police officers very well when they walked in to order which I appreciated! Would come back for more fish, taco cravings!

Per usual, Rubio's has the best fish tacos, in my opinion. They always have great flavour for all of their selections, the food always fresh, the service is friendly, and [[HIGHLIGHT]]the restaurant is kept clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This evening we had our old stand-by's which were 2 Gourmet shrimp taco plate, 4 Original Fish tacos, and for the first time .. the Langostino Lobster Taco ! The Original tacos never disappoint as they have this complex texture combining the crispness of the batter, this magical hearty sauce all wrapped in a nice soft shell, while the Gourmet Shrimp have their own character combining the plump & savoury bite from the shrimp, with a moist and juicy afternote of the cheese and fresh avocados. The Langostino's first bite was absolutely perfect ! Possessing first, a nice little spicy kick, then a light punch of citrus as you finish with the subtle yet characteristic taste of the fresh lobster! Wow ! I think I have just found a new favourite !! We really have no problem making a special drive from Thousand Oaks to El Segundo for this treat! We continue to search for a restaurant that is consistently comparable, but to no avail. I do hope the franchise decides to return its footprint to Ventura and maybe Santa Barbara counties. Cheers !!

I came here for lunch. I ordered two original fish tacos. They were prepared and served pretty quickly. The fried fish tacos were pretty good, though they definitely needed lime and hot sauce. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is casual. They're going for a beach/ocean vibe. It was clean and well taken care of[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Though I got fish tacos, there are other options. I'd eat lunch here again. It was a relatively quick place to get a tasty lunch.

Fish Taco Especial*

Quite a busy location even if we ordered ahead of time and it said it would be ready in 20 minutes, we still had to wait another 20 minutes when got there! Sigh. So be prepared to wait no matter what. Fish taco was nice and crispy, I'd order it again - it also held up in spite the wait and drive to bring home. I cannot tell the difference between the special and original fish tacos. You can skip the street corn, it's ok, but honestly, i make it better.

Langostino Lobster Bowl

Good food but doesn't look like double lobster to me. We always order lunch from here and skimping is starting to become regular. When ordering large drinks through DoorDash they send you a regular which is $6.00. Maybe it's the economy but overall food is good.

Coastal Trio and chips with guacamole.

Typical fast food restaurant ambience. Order at the counter and they'll bring it out. I have no complaints on my dinner. All three tacos were great. I think the original was my favorite and the shrimp was a very close second. The flavors were bold and everything tasted fresh. My chips had a hard crunch and the amount received was skimpy. The guacamole was very fresh, a great texture with avocado chunks and excellent flavor. My friend got blackened salmon which came with white rice and a bowl of chicken tortilla soup. The chicken tortilla soup was rice, chicken and two slices of avocado on top. We looked to see if there was a chicken and rice side dish and they said it was the soup and showed us a ladle full of red broth stating it was in the bottom of the bowl. We assured them there was no broth one person tried to convince us there was and it had been soaked up into the rice. We told them no, there was nothing red or orange in the bowl with the white rice, chicken and two avocado wedges. They gave an apology and offered another soup. Good as it was and would have been, we were already stuffed and traveling so we thanked them and turned it down. Would I go back? Absolutely! If I wanted tacos and I was in the area I would not hesitate.

Shout out to Jackie and Leylani who make our weekly dinner at Rubio's a great experience. The food is always fresh and delicious too.

Salsa bar

Please Note that the issue below is resolved, but I cannot delete it??!! The food is fresh, with a varied menu and healthy options not found at other "faster food" restaurants. The cuisine is California Mexican, but tasty and they are good about customizing orders (I can't tolerate cilantro and we don't like cheese). The salsas tend to have a lot of cilantro and the one that is supposed to be picante, is hot and no cilantro. To me it lacks flavor, but I'm picky about salsa. Service is friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are eat in and take out options and there is ample parking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Beware of their online ordering system: Check everything and do not leave without a correct receipt. I was not alone with app issues. Now, why the five stars after having had a terrible experience with the app? It took a while, but Rubio's resolved the issue in my favor even after my credit card resolved it in their favor. I never got the receipt for the corrected amount despite both charges appearing on my credit card, so it was hard to prove I had been charged twice instead of credited the overcharge. Hopefully the app issue is resolved, but they are good people, so order some food, mind your receipts and keep good food and people in the neighborhood.

Delicious nachos, all the fixins
Kari H.

This place is always a winner, I got the California bowl with shrimp, it was so tasty, hot and fresh!! My friend ordered the nachos to share and it was large enough to feed 4 adults, the fresh guacamole, sour cream, salsa, cheese and crispy chips. The restaurant is always clean and nicely furnished and decorated. The service staff are nice and helpful, they delivered our food to our table. It was a pleasant dinner, recommend this restaurant!!

As for the food/drinks, the happy hour was such a great deal. We got to try the mushroom choriqueso (which was our favorite item), Al Pastor tacos, taquitos, shrimp ceviche and two Mercado margaritas. All of this for about $70! Everything tasted great and came out super quick too. Service was absolutely amazing. Everyone's always checking up on you, making sure you're doing okay and there was never a time we were waiting on anything too long. What makes it worse is that this is not our first time with Mercado. We've been fans since the original location near The Grove and have been coming to this South Bay location for a while. We used to order takeout and dined in regularly and in the past the experience was much better. Unfortunately, that is clearly no longer the case. The service was atrocious from start to finish. We waited far too long for everything, including drinks. A single Tecate took about 30 minutes to arrive, which set the tone for the rest of the night. Nobody checked on us, nobody seemed attentive and we spent way too much of the evening just sitting there waiting. The food was equally bad. The carnitas nachos came out cold. The steak taco was rubbery. The fish tacos were incredibly dry. The birthday fajitas were also dry and underwhelming. For a place at this price point, there is really no excuse for food coming out like this. The overall atmosphere also felt off. What used to feel lively and welcoming now felt neglected and poorly managed. It was especially frustrating because this was supposed to be a birthday dinner and instead it turned into a long, overpriced, disappointing experience. It genuinely breaks my heart to write this because we have a long history with Mercado, but after this visit, we're done. There are too many better options in the South Bay to spend this kind of money on bad food, bad service and an overall miserable experience.

We were staying near LAX and I didn't want to drive too far, so we stumbled upon this Mexican spot in the cutest little downtown area ever. El Segundo, you are THAT b*tch! We arrived around 5:30 on a Saturday and were seated immediately (thank goodness). Our server was super duper friendly and even had multiple conversations with us throughout the meal, sharing anecdotes and talking to my tattoo artist friend about getting a tat from her LOL. We quickly ordered some chips and queso (not free) and were blown away by how creamy and tasty the queso was. The tortas were also delicious and easy to scoop a lot of cheese on to. On to the menu, they had a good variety of Mexican dishes, but the price point, man. I thought $4-5 a taco at Barrio Queen in Arizona was steep, but this place charged $7-8 for a single small taco. I would've been okay with any menu item since it's Mexican and nothing under that cuisine could be bad, but seeing each enchilada over $30, made me steer clear of the main entree dishes. I also knew I wanted to try fish tacos, so I just opted for one fish taco and one grilled taco, with a side of mashed black beans. Crazy that some black beans also were at least $5. The fish taco was nicely battered and the guacamole was ripe and creamy, but the grilled chicken taco was nothing spectacular. There was also cauliflower tacos and beef brisket tacos ordered among us. My friend who ordered the beef brisket taco rated it 7.5/10, whereas the cauliflower tacos were rated 9/10. The food also took at least 20 minutes to arrive at the table. Both sauces my tacos came with were extremely spicy so I didn't even touch those. My friends enjoyed their meals, and the side of green rice two of them got was rather tasty. Overall, our server was the best part of the experience. She really ate DOWN, whereas our food and the price point did not.

So like yesterday, I decided to stop by and grab a burrito, but unfortunately, this will be the last time. I usually visit this location with my dad. He's been coming to this location since before I was born and I'm damn near 40. But this time I came alone and the place was packed. They don't have a big seating area. It's like a bar with about four seats to the right and four seat seats to the left so it doesn't accommodate many people, so people order to go. And that was my plan. I walk in and the server (with his chef at and money taped to it) and I grab the same menu. He allows me to have it, and he grabs another and gives it to one of the customers. I say all this to say that he definitely knows exactly when I arrived. However, A white man walks up less than a minute later and for some reason he decides to ask him if he ready to order, as if I'm invisible. This was the second time that this happened to me today and God knows how many times has happened to me in life. So at some point, I just have to stop ignoring the fact that Black people aren't welcome in certain spaces. Maybe we are by law, but not at all met with respect! That is all!
