We ordered from Rubio's Coastal Grill -home of the original fish taco for Fish Friday on Good Friday and had a good experience. Ordering online was super easy, and the website made it simple to customize everything just how we wanted. I had the Mexican Street Corn Shrimp Tacos, which came with two sides. There were plenty of options to choose from--I went with Mexican rice and Mexican corn. My husband ordered the blackened Mahi-Mahi burrito. We also added chips and salsa, and they offer several different salsa varieties, which was a nice touch. Everything in our order was exactly right when we picked it up. Both meals were really tasty, and the portions were just the right size--not too much, but definitely satisfying. We'll definitely be ordering again! read more

Placed a catering order for Mother's Day. Went in to pick up the order and all of the staff were friendly. The restaurant looked clean and nice, but They all seemed to be very stressed out. It was Mother's Day, so i figured it would be kinda busy. They gave me our taco bar and when i looked in the bag it seemed "light". I asked about sides and what comes with it, and no one really knew. I asked about the toppings for the tacos and they said "oh yeah". The girl then went to grab the supervisor Kat, and she was very friendly. She apologized and let me know they were out of cheese, and cabbage. I asked about the pico and other toppings and she apologized for not including those items, then grabbed them for me. They did forget the lines too which i didn't realize until we got home, which was a bummer. I called in before we headed for pick up and ordered a large guac and chips. I ended up paying 52 bucks and when we left my husband said, that's really expensive guac. I didn't even realize how much i was spending because the mess that was happening with our main order. I checked the receipt and they charged me for a catering size guac, and i only received one small tub of guac and 2 small containers of chips. If it was catering i would have got 3 large containers of chips with a big bag of chips. I called to get a refund and Kat apologized for the mix up. She let me know that they weren't expecting it to be busy and ran out of a ton of different things, so the day was kind of crazy. She told me that since i paid in person i could only get a refund in person and they couldn't do it over the phone. I stopped back in on my way home from our Mother's Day get together and it was a different supervisor and the kitchen was disgusting. Food everywhere, empty food containers on the counters. I was kind of shocked honestly. Night and day difference from 2pm when i was in there earlier. Thankfully i got my refund and will not be returning to that location anytime soon. The chicken and fish we received were so dry, but at least the guac was yummy and tasted fresh! The employees did the best they could with what they were set up with but whoever handles the ordering needs to rethink not ordering additional items for a holiday. I just had the worst customer service experience at a fast food restaurant and it was with the manager Marcos. after I had made a request to have them cook the tortillas on the griddle because I usually get them cold. He persisted to claim that they are always cooked on griddle before serving. He even made fun of me and the request to other employees as well as customers . He actually got defensive and argued with me for making such request. He declined to reprint receipt and said he was out ink and did not want to change it .. I will never eat at Rubios ever again ! Rubio's has been my go-to lately for a quick, healthy-ish dinner! This location is the closest to me and is conveniently located in the Gilbert Gateway Towne Center. There's plenty of parking, but it's shared by multiple businesses, so it might not be readily accessible during peak times. My first visit at this location was a Friday evening so they were naturally very busy. Most of the tables were occupied and the wait was longer than usual. We didn't mind. Most of the bowls change seasonally. At the time of my visit, I ordered one of their shrimp bowls. It had corn, beans, rice, avocado or guac, and other ingredients. My husband ordered a shrimp burrito. Our order was ready in maybe 25-20 minutes. Excited, we started eating it in the car before even leaving our parking spot. It was delicious and filling. At one of my recent visits, I ordered the Mexican street corn bowl which is still available right now. It comes with choice of grilled chicken, steak, or seafood atop citrus rice and lettuce blend, guacamole, roasted corn blend, black beans, cilantro/onion blend, cotija cheese, chipotle lime crema, salsa verde, and tajin®. My husband and I ordered at 6:30 and didn't get our food until 7:15! My husband had to go ask what was taking so long & they handed him a tray with our food (which was missing a couple items). I have never had service so slow at a fast food restaurant and none of the other locations are this bad. Tables were also never wiped down and was covered in food remnants. In the hour I was there, I never saw any workers come out to clean. The location on Baseline is much better . read more

We went to Rubio's coastal grill last night for dinner. Typically one of the best fish tacos you will ever find. I will say it was packed inside. They were extremely busy. I was okay with waiting because the people working at the front counter were extremely nice and you could tell they were swamped. There did seem to be a very long gap in time between orders coming out though. When we finally did get our fish tacos I was disappointed. They weren't hot. The fish was almost room temperature. I can't understand why the food wouldn't be hot after waiting so long to get it. The tortilla chips were a disappointment too. Way too many crumbs. Have some pride and some quality control before you send food out to customers. Those chips were not acceptable at all. The fish wasn't warm. This shouldn't be so difficult. read more

I have not been to a Rubio's since the one here in Mesa closed. I was going to Target so I figured, why not try the location over there. My wife ordered Tacos and I had the Classic Shrimp Burrito. Ok, let start off by saying that the young man at the counter was very pleasant. He took our orders and I have no complaints about him. We got our Order number and some of the tables were not cleaned so we found a table towards the back door. Not a problem. I like that they have a salsa bar and it was clean. We got our drinks and sat down and waited a little bit for our food. When the food came, it looked very good and smelled like it was going to be very good. I cut my burrito in half and there was a very good tasting shrimp right there and it was really good. As I ate the first half, I realized that there was only 3 shrimp in it. I told my wife that I could not believe that there was only 3 shrimp. So I opened up the second half to find only 2 shrimp in that half. Now I have got to say that it tasted ok but 5 shrimp in a Shrimp burrito. When I was leaving, I had to ask the guy at the counter if they count the shrimp when they make the burritos and he said, yes, we do, 10 shrimp in the Shrimp Burrito. I told him that I had only 5 and he asked the guy that made it and he didn't come up with anything. I just left as they didn't say anything else to me and I'm not ever going back. Terrible!! Order Steak Street Tacos and the girl at the counter didn't know her menu enough to tell me they don't sell them anymore. Placed n order for some other steak taco they sell. As orders were stacking up in the line waiting to be delivered she kept taking more orders. Watched her struggle with one guys customization and a guy who was helping make food (presumably the manager) walked to the counter and with his gloves hand took the customer's order and then went back to the line and continued to prepare food without changing his glove. I've read that Rubios has been struggling financially. They emailed me a $5 off coupon so I went. I got the Coastal Trio: Original Fish Taco * Salsa Verde Shrimp Taco * Mahi Mahi Taco. The Mahi Mahi taco fish looked like it was burned. It was. I rarely send food back so I forced myself to eat it. Part of the reason I didn't hassle returning it was because when I arrived there was no one at the register. He had gone to the bathroom and no one else could help me. First time at Rubio's in a long time. I got the Fish Taco plate with chips and bean dip + salsa. The food was pretty good, not a huge fan of the chips but they tasted pretty high quality just not light enough for me. Fish tacos were good as the fish was crispy and has some good toppings to add flavors and textures. The bean dip was solid nothing crazy, maybe on the soupier side. The salsas were pretty mid, don't compare to typical Mexican salsas. The service at this location was not the best as I had to wait a little while to order and my food took a little longer than stated, but the staff was friendly. This was my second, and last, visit to this Rubio's location. The first time ordering went smoothly, but the restaurant itself was a bit grimy overall. This time, it took a while to order, and then we sat down to wait for our food. We ordered about 6:20. I had to be someplace close by at 7. When we sat down, I noticed the tables and the floors were sticky. I tried to wipe the table and it was a dark, sticky dirt that came off, like the table hadn't been really cleaned in weeks. The people at the table next to us informed us that they had been waiting for 25 minutes already. By 6:55 we still did not have our food so I had to leave without eating. The food came out about five minutes after I left. My husband ate his burrito and boxed my tacos and brought them home for me. I give two stars as the compliment to the flavor of the shrimp and vinaigrette. The vinaigrette didn't have much to hold onto. This meal barely satiated my hunger. To say there was not much to it is an understatement. The salad consisted of 10 shrimp that were rather small, maybe 1.5 cups of light airy chopped Romaine lettuce, a small portion of the quinoa/rice, perhaps 1/4 of an avocado, about a tablespoon of mango, a tablespoon of corn and some crispy tortilla crisps that were pretty hard and made my teeth hurt to chew them. It never feels good walking away from a meal at a restaurant still hungry. I will stick to Salad and Go. read more

We ordered two orders of the gourmet tacos and chicken tortilla soup, I asked for no avocado since I'm allergic and a few things were missed. We waited about 15 minutes for our food and it came out with avocado but both of the guys apologized right away and fixed the issue quickly and fixed other things we were missing. They both were super caring and made sure I was okay and made everything fresh. Thank you Michael & Miguel. They also gave up little coupons to use at a later date for the inconvenience. My original experience with Rubios was over 30 years ago while serving in the Navy. Upon stepping into this location I was impressed by how Rubios had expanded its menu since then, but I was a bit concerned by how long it took for an employee to acknowledge I was there. It took so long that I looked around to see if I needed to place my order via kiosk. Finally, an older gentleman walked over and took my order. I remembered how good the fish tacos were, so they were the obvious choice, I got 3 of them and a drink. I waited about 5 minutes, the tacos came out fresh and hot...now for the taste test. The first bite took me back to the days of a 20 something year old sailor, these tacos were amazing!!! I devoured them so quickly that I thought about ordering a few more. I gave 4 stars due to the time I waited for someone to recognize me, but I'll definitely be back. The restaurant was clean and the tacos were very very good. Highly recommend. Update: My bad this review should be of the Chandler location, not the one in Gilbert. I went back a second time and everything was phenomenal, in fact I mis-ordered a few items and the team lead made it right. I have nothing bad to say about this location. Always reliable and fresh! I'm a huge fan of their rewards club that constantly offers discounts. I usually order a salmon burrito with guac and it's so delicious. I love the salsa bar and enjoy mixing the mild with the onion/cilantro mix. Service is always friendly and food comes out fairly quickly. I do feel that some items are a bit overpriced and ordering through the app can be a bit slow and I find myself waiting longer than just ordering when I arrive. read more

I normally don't like to leave reviews but I frequent to this location since it's closest to where I live. I stopped by for a meal on Mother's Day, it was maybe after lunch time, and I witnessed some rather unfair and appalling behavior from what I'm assuming could be a manager. He was wearing a different shirt from the rest of the restaurant workers, and I believe his name might have been either Jason or James. One of the ladies from the kitchen looked to be taking a break to eat some food, and he approached her in front of the entire dining area, to scold her for taking a lunch break. The interaction seemed targeted, and he lacked professionalism and empathy for a hardworking woman. It could have been a conversation discussed in private, but it felt more like an attack to belittle her and embarrass her in front of customers/colleagues. Every time I visit this restaurant I see these kitchen workers go above and beyond and I would hate for this negative behavior to be normalized and go unnoticed. read more

We had lunch at this establishment yesterday and won't go back. The table was so dirty and sticky that our plates and napkins were sticking to it. The food quality has gone down a bit too. I don't understand, we don't order dressing, just salsa as our dressing, there is 2 of us.. so for a big salad we order 6 each, the containers are TINY... then they show up and it's 3 salsas.. so we can't even eat out double protein $25 dollar salad.. tried calling but no one picks up. RIDICULOUS.. and I'm in customer service, i NEVER complain, usually we can manage with a few salsas...but this time was comedy. 2 SALSAS... if you pay $25 for a salad you think they would hook you up. Cashier was new and a bit confused on our last visit, but this newly discovered gem is our new go-to place for quick Mex. Food: Great shrimp options and the salsa bar is pretty solid. We have had salads, burritos, etc and various proteins. All were very good, Location: Parking is an issue with YC next door, so getting in and out is a challenge. Overall: A much better and healthier alternative to Chipotle. Head and shoulders above some local "disasters" like Someburros and Cafe Rio. Will definitely come back here again. read more
