Disappointing Anniversary Dinner - Expected More for the Price My wife and I decided to celebrate our anniversary here after getting recommendations from friends who spoke highly of the place. Since we're in the Gilbert area, we loved the idea of a great steakhouse without the drive to Scottsdale. We went in with high expectations -- we're no strangers to special occasion dining, so we knew what we were hoping for. Unfortunately, the experience fell short in almost every way. The ambience and service felt more like a polished chain restaurant than the upscale dining experience the prices suggest. For a $300-$400 dinner for two, you expect a certain level of attentiveness and flow -- and we just didn't get it. After our appetizers, we noticed we never received the pretzel bread everyone raves about. When I asked our waiter, he said they had just finished baking a fresh batch. When it arrived, it was cold -- so that clearly wasn't the case. We also had to flag our waiter down to take our entrée order, which shouldn't happen at this price point. My steak was fine -- just fine. My wife's fish was the same. Nothing memorable, nothing that made us feel like the bill was justified. By the end of the meal we were both ready to leave. Our waiter did offer a complimentary dessert for our anniversary, which was a nice gesture, but we were already checked out mentally and chose to go somewhere else to finish the evening on a better note. If you're in the East Valley looking for a truly special dinner, I'd honestly just make the drive to Mastro's Oceans Club or Steak 44. read more

Confirming my 5-star review as I've visited here several times. Peruse the cocktail list. There's a couple smoked whiskey cocktails that are unusual and fantastic. Gotta do the full monte here. Appy's, entree, desert. Haven't had an appetizer I didn't like. In fact, share them. You can fill up on your own. Last visit the shrimp and fresh west coast oysters on the half shell. Served traditionally!!! Perfect. Steaks gone to order this time. I like a hot pink center, and a couple times they've come out too rare for me. You have to get the rosemary flambé. Adds a wonderful complement to any of their cuts. Service is ALWAYS GREAT. Knowledgeable and socially adept staff. Can make your meal feel like you are a VIP. Can't wait to blow through summer so I can enjoy the patio again, but the interior dominated by the large bar is clubby and chic. I met some girlfriends here for a few drinks, and I must say I wasn't really impressed! I order the prime rib sliders and I was greatly disappointed! The bread was stale and the cheese was basically nonexistent! I would expect the bread to be nice and warm and soft. Instead, the bread was not warm and texture clearly indicated that it two day old bread! Ugh! Also, it was hard to dip the sliders into the au jus because the silver cup was too small! It's the little things that show a patron that the chef really cares about what he or she is serving. The attention to detail is what separates chefs from cooks! I also ordered fresh oysters. The food is cooked to perfection and oh my goodness the salmon was soooooo good! I highly recommend the creamed spinach ... would rate it a 9/10 easy! This is the second time I have been here so I really wanted to give them a good review. Our party was sat in the back room which was nice and not so loud. I went to order the ceviche and after a few moments I was told I needed to order something else. I ended up ordering the short rib. I split the wedge salad. It was very fatty. I barely ate it. My husband and I came here for our wedding night dinner since we eloped over by the Superstitions and live in the Gilbert area. We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Our server was attentive as were all the staff that helped around the restaurant. We both ordered a cocktail, filets, and split the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. We ended the night with a butter cake, a gift from our server (thank you!!). The filet was cooked perfect, the sides were delicious, and how could you not love a butter cake? The cocktail wasn't too strong, and we were checked on an appropriate number of times. Because we got married on a Wednesday night, the restaurant was not busy! We were looking for a place to celebrate my husband's birthday. He is a huge bourbon guy and he also loves his steak. Who doesn't? We decided upon Bourbon and Bones for the big celebration night. My mother-in-law was able to make a reservation easily over the phone. We have young kids so we were trying to get in as early as possible. The host said they could accommodate us earlier than five, most likely so we set our reservation for 5 PM. We showed up about 4:20 on a Friday and they only had high tops available and said they wouldn't have anything else available until five. The manager-Shadi came over and introduced himself. He was super nice and helpful. He said there was one booth available and if we gave them a few minutes, they could get it ready for us. We already felt very warm, welcomed, and at home! They had a beautiful booth, waiting for us within minutes. We were greeted instantly by our incredible server, AmberLee. My husband and father-in-law ordered Elmer T Lee over an ice ball, actually a few of them. We had sparkling water for the table that was absolutely delicious and thirst quenching on a hot day. The kids ordered water and milk and they came in adorable sippy cups. They brought over complimentary bread and garlic butter, which was delicious. The bread was both pretzel and a regular loaf. We were able to place our orders right away. They have a great happy hour menu Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 PM. We were within that window so I ordered the steak frites for myself and to share with my daughter, my son ordered the burger and fries off of the happy hour menu since there was no kids menu. They can make buttered noodles, grilled cheese, basically anything modified for the kids. Everyone else on the table ordered a fillet with different sides. We all shared the Caesar salad, which was absolutely delicious, I highly recommend that. Everything came out at once, there was a little bit of a weight, but it was well worth it. The steak was delicious, I also highly recommend getting the bone marrow butter as my husband did. So delicious. The burger off the happy hour menu was great as well as the steak frites. Shadi came over to check on us and asked how our experience was, he learned it was my husband's birthday and when we were finished with our meal, a tray of desserts came over. Crème brûlée, chocolate cake, and their famous bourbon buttered cake with ice cream. All three of them were absolutely delicious, but I really loved their bourbon cake. I highly recommend that as a dessert. Ethan also came over several times to explain things about the restaurant, check in on us, and make conversation with us. He was absolutely wonderful. Everyone who worked there was so attentive and lovely. The environment was lively and fun. The place was clean as a whistle and smelled amazing. I couldn't have a single bad thing to say about this experience. It had been a while since we had been out to dinner and this was the perfect experience, through and through. My son had visited Bourbon & Bones a few times and spoke highly of it, so my husband and I decided to see for ourselves. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the expectation, or the price tag. Every dish I was served had an overwhelming taste and aroma of bloody, undercooked meat. It was unappetizing to the point of being nauseating. For a restaurant at this price point, the quality of the food should be impeccable, and this was far from it. I've dined at comparable and higher-end establishments where the execution was flawless, this was not that. I came here for girls night last weekend. I will have to commend Bourbon and Bones for a delightful and flavorful night. All the food items we ordered we thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered the Wagyu flat iron and my friend, the prime rib with mashed potatoes. She loved it so much and I thought my steak was perfect. In fact, writing this right now makes me crave it. He was ironically also celebrating his birthday on this day. My wife and mother-in-law started out with the usual order of oysters. They loved the oyster. My mother-in-law, despite our cries for her not to, order a frozen cherry coke and bourbon drink that was on the menu. Ended up being too sweet for her liking as we thought it would be. My wife got the house Malbec wine. What a great Malbec. I would typically go with a Malbec to pair with a steak, but I opted for their name sake. I order a bourbon old Fashion and it was amazing. Had I not been the DD that night I would have pounded this old fashions all night. Along with the oysters we ordered a Caesar salad. Wife's personal favorite. It was on par with everything to that point. As we noshed on the appetizers and enjoyed our drinks Steve took our main course order. Played around with the thought of getting our own steaks or whatever Entree we each desired, but the allure of the tomahawk steak was too much. I called to us. I was leaning towards the wagyu tomahawk, but the ladies talked me down. I will return soon for that wagyu tomahawk though. As good as the tomahawk we got was, and it was excellent, I can only imagine how good the wagyu is. Our tomahawk was cooked perfect. Pink in the middle and just dripping with its own juices. They had a great truffle butter that I just couldn't get enough of. On the side we got the cream of spinach and truffle fries, The cream of spinach was just that. Creamy and yet the spinach still had a little bit of a bite to it. Amazing. The truffle fries were great. Take that with a grain of salt though as I have never met a truffle fry I didn't like. To end our evening my mother-in-law received a complimentary crème brûlée and we ordered the butter cake as well. The first was smooth with that signature crunchy top of burnt sugar. The custard was sweet meted in your mouth., The butter cake was... good. I probably only say that because I had probably the best butter cake I have ever had recently and it will be hard to match that. I've been to this location several times as well as the location in Scottsdale. Both are similar overall but there's definitely a better vibe in the Scottsdale location. The food tasted excellent and our drinks were spot on. Our service team was impeccable and was a highlight of the night. The oysters were really fresh and we enjoyed our various steaks. We didn't try many sides this last visit but usually have some sort of potato and vegetables which never disappoint. However, my medium well steak was severely undercooked and my wife's was absolutely burnt. I had a special they were offering that night which included alaskin king crab and the amount provided was laughable for the price. Overall, the quality seemed a bit off and if I'm spending this much, I'd rather go to a Mastro's. read more

The prices are far too high for the quality of food served!!!! I called ahead to ask about reservations since it was my first time visiting. The host told my husband the earliest availability was 8:00 PM. While he was still on the phone, I checked online and saw a reservation available at 7:45 PM, which should have been my first clue about the level of service. When we arrived, we were seated immediately. Everything went smoothly at first, but things changed when it was time to order. We were ready to order, but my daughter had a few questions about the menu. The main waitress said she would come back, but we ended up waiting quite a while. During that time, Waitress walked by our table 5 times plus waitstaff walked past our table several times without checking on us, which unnecessarily delayed our order. One waitress bumped into my chair. Saw others just standing and chatting by the walkway. When the food finally arrived, we had ordered the New York steak with lobster, the Wagyu Delmonico, mashed potatoes, and mushrooms. The bread was mediocre, and the steaks were served lukewarm. Considering the restaurant's high ratings and pricing, we expected much better. I have dined at steakhouses such as Ruth's Chris, Fleming's, and Ocean Prime in Las Vegas, where the prices are comparable or even higher, but the quality and service consistently justify the cost. Service rating 1-2 It seemed like our food may have been sitting for 5-10 minutes before being served, which likely explains why the steaks arrived lukewarm. The lobster was also overcooked, which is disappointing at this price point. Mashed potatoes were mediocre unlike the mushrooms which were surprisingly good but cold. Food rating: 2.5. Cost rating: 2.5. Overall, the service and food quality did not meet expectations for a restaurant in this price range. Taste of food was just all right. Presentation fell very short for the main dishes. Both the steak and salmon seemed like they were thrown on the plate with no sides or anything that would wow us. The sides of broccoli and mashed potatoes were also pretty ordinary. Broccoli was dripping in water and seemed bland and over steamed. The best part was the Chocolate cake and that was moist and delicious. Other than that restaurant lighting was a little on the darker side and seems a little old and need of an upgrade. Our party of 8 celebrated a friend's birthday last night here. Since this restaurant is one of the priciest restaurants in Gilbert, I was really looking forward to the experience. We shared a $500 bottle of red wine, appetizers and desserts so I was lucky to taste a little bit of everything. I was really looking forward to tasting the Pork belly $24. It was very tender but I didn't care for the sweet and sour sauce. Crispy calamari fries $18 were also very tender and I enjoyed the shishito peppers but was lacking seasoning. Blue cheese stuffed medjool dates $20 were very rich and greasy. I ordered the bone marrow $42 and it was almost too rich and I could only eat about a quarter of it. Hubby enjoyed the oysters (MP) but he didn't think it was anything special especially for the price. Tuna tartare $28 was not very flavorful and the portion size was tiny. Hubby said I can make much better. Truffle mashed potatoes $14 had a subtle taste of truffles which I enjoyed. Brussel sprouts $18 were too greasy and sweet. Mac n' cheese $14 was just ok. My favorite was dessert: bourbon butter cake $16 and warm apple crumble $15 both came with ice cream and was absolutely delish! I felt the service could have been much better for a higher end restaurant. I thought it was very strange no one ever asked how the food was. No one really said anything to us other than explaining the specials. In my opinion, they use too much oil and butter in everything and the seasoning just wasn't on point for me. I guess I expected a lot more as it's a very pricy place. One can easily spend $200 for dinner here as everything is a la carte. I've heard mixed reviews about Bourbon & Bones so I've been eager to try it... overall I liked it and would go back. I really liked all the flavors in our dishes. The pork belly sauce was tangy and was complimented well with the peppers and red onion. The meat was tender but could've been crisped up a bit. I also really liked the flavor profile in the octopus dish, but was not a fan of the style of dish; the sliced octopus pieces made it feel like more of a ceviche and I was expecting a more charred tentacle (that's on me, since I didn't check pictures and just assumed). The Cesar salad hit the spot too. It was a good portion size amidst other dishes, and I liked that the dressing was flavorful but not overly thick / caked on the lettuce. We ordered the rack of lamb medium rare to share and honestly should've sent it back. Both pieces were super rare. However, the salts and sauces salvaged it... we loved the creamy horseradish and the chimichurri was one of the better ones I've had. I'd definitely try a steak for next time. We sat at the bar top and had great service. Several people helped us throughout the night but they were all friendly and attentive but not overbearing. Food and drinks were paced well one after the other but not too soon / not too slow. I also liked the bar top itself. Bar service here is Bar none!! Sat at the bar during my last visit and had the pleasure of being served by Hallie. She was extraordinary, the menu knowledge is truly mind blowing. I had several questions and without skipping a beat Hallie was able to answer and suggest based on the drinks and food I told her I often gravitate towards. The food was fantastic I ordered an espresso martini to drink that was perfectly balanced with hints of vanilla. For dinner I ordered the 10oz filet that prepared exactly as I requested. One thing I would like to note about the steaks at this establishment is that that are pristine. For a side I got the truffle lobster mac n cheese which of course never disappoints. The vibe in this establishment is just what you would want a fine dinning vibe to be. Intimate and authentic, with originality and exquisite cleanliness! Date night for my husband and I, we are early eaters and arrived a few minutes early before our 5:15 reservation and were promptly seated in a mostly empty restaurant. Within a few minutes we realized we were seated at the worst table in the house, right next to the restroom so lots of people walking around our table the entire meal. This is the last table anyone should be seated in an empty restaurant so early in the night. Service was very good, our water glasses were never allowed below 1/2 full. I ordered a prime filet and requested medium plus as I hate bloody steaks and my steak arrived medium minus. We ordered Brussel sprouts- I inquired how they are cooked as I like them soft and fully cooked or they cause me extreme digestive upset. The waiter told me he would request they would be cooked to soft. They arrived very firm and undercooked. I did not eat any as I knew what would happen later. We also got the broccoli au gratin, and the broccoli was also undercooked and very firm. I could not eat that either, so my meal ended up consisting of the edges of my prime fillet and a small amount of a sweet potato casserole, which was very good. I did end up ordering the butter cake for dessert as I was still hungry. It was delicious although overly sweet with the maple syrup added, I think it would be better without that. My husband ordered a Wagyu end cap and was very pleased with how that was prepared. The manager did come by and ask how our meal was, and I told him most things were undercooked. He offered to send them back to the kitchen to have them cooked more, but I know from past experience what happens when you do that and it ends up coming back overcooked so I declined. We arrived at 7:15 it almost an hour to order our food. We received our order after a table that sat down and ordered after us. I ordered the New York $69 medium rare and it was very undercooked. The knives they made a big presentation about bringing around for us to choose, the one I picked was about as sharp as a butter knife. I ordered the asparagus $16 as a side, it was tasteless. I choked one down an expensive stalk of asparagus. Wife ordered a drink "Bitter Kitty" $20. My coke was a bargain at $4 and the pretzel bread (free) was tasty. Our server was amazing, best recommendations and great smile. Steaks were cooked perfect and sides were delicious, Mac and cheese was a little cold but the country mashed potatoes were good. The best was the fried pesto shrimp, the sriracha mayo was perfect. Berried alive is always a good sweet go to vodka martini here. read more

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile now so was happy to get an invite for a very good friend's birthday dinner party. We got to sit in the back of the restaurant that was kind of private from the rest of the restaurant. We were able to laugh and enjoy each others company. A friend of mine ordered a smoked old fashions and it smelled amazing, to die for. The complementary bread was very good, especially the pretzel log. I ordered oysters which were tasty and briny just the way I like them. I also ordered a tuna tartare which was just ok. Everyone else had steaks which they all enjoyed. The sides especially the truffle potatoes were delicious. The service was attentive and I'd come back for a special occasion as it is a higher end restaurant. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. My boyfriend and I had a reservation at Bourbon & Bones at SanTan Village and were excited for our dinner. After checking in, an employee approached us and quietly told my boyfriend that his outfit was considered "gym wear" and "sleeveless" and that he would not be allowed to eat unless he changed shirts. The problem is that he was wearing a blue short-sleeve sweater that extended past his shoulders--not a tank top or sleeveless shirt. After being told this, we looked around the restaurant and saw multiple men already seated wearing t-shirts and basketball shorts. The inconsistency was impossible to ignore. My boyfriend is Black, and seeing other guests who were white dressed more casually while he was singled out made us feel uncomfortable and question whether we were being treated differently. Whether intentional or not, the experience was embarrassing and made us feel unwelcome. If there is a dress code, it should be enforced consistently for every guest. We left extremely disappointed and will not be returning until this issue is addressed. read more

This is definitely on the pricey side but the food was worth every penny. The steaks were done to perfection and the oyster were excellent. Our servers were attentive and knowledgeable about the food and made great recommendations for dishes. read more

The food was exceptional. My fiancé and I have been here a few times, and each visit has been better than the last. Hunter and Daniel were our servers on both occasions, and they were absolutely on top of everything. The service was excellent--knowledgeable about the menu, attentive, and thoughtful with their recommendations. While a great steak doesn't need sauce, the steak sauce Daniel recommended paired beautifully with my filet mignon. The chimichurri was earthy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. Cheyanne, our server's assistant, was just as wonderful--so sweet and attentive. She kept the table cleared and made sure we never ran out of bread (which is amazing, by the way). Exceptional food, outstanding service, and a consistently great experience. We can't wait to come back. read more
