It was a busy Sunday morning and a quick walk from our hotel. We we wee are at quickly once specified outside. Service was kind and quick. Food was delicious and atmosphere was nice. Food options were great and the location on canal st was perfect for a stop in and scenic views of the city outside of right outside of bourbon. Loved the size of there beignets for a quick appetizer.
I was looking for a breakfast spot and walked into this place. Looks like the Ruby Slipper is a chain. I saw a handful of them within a couple blocks. I didn't like the seating at the one closest to the hotel, but this one wasn't that much further, in terms of walking distance. They offer seating both inside and outdoors. There's counter seating in the center with tables surrounding it. The place was crowded, but I still found a table off to the side to the left. I could see the small kitchen in the back from where I was seated. This place is popular. I ordered the Truck Latte ($5) and Mota's that started out at $12.75, but ended up costing $2 more because every additional recommendation David G made cost $1 (Add Coubion, $1 + Add Pico De Gallo, $1), which is what I noticed about New Orleans. My food and drink tasted fine. I probably didn't really need all the extras. He did offer to fill my latte cup with coffee, but I didn't take him up on that offer because that sort of defeats the purpose of ordering a latte. Service was overall friendly and efficient. As I was looking around though, I was wondering what letter grade they would have if they were in Los Angeles.
Ruby Slipper is this fun, chaotic cafe that offers a very unique take on NOLA cuisine. Located just off of Canal Street, this establishment is very easy to find. Once inside, you will see a spacious environment with tables all over the place, plus a nice central counter space. What they offer is their own brand of Americana. There are really a lot of choices on their menu and all of them are very well prepared and tasty. The have food to fulfill all palettes and dietary desires. One of the fun things about this cafe is their staff. From my experience, they are all super high energy and really take care of their customers. The one thing I will say, again from my experience(s), is that they are all a bit of an up-seller. For example, when you are ordering, whatever it is you want from their menu, they will suggest something like putting avocado on it. "That's how I like it," they will say. Or, they may suggest something else. The one thing that they do not tell you is that every addition, no matter how small, will cost you. So, just keep that in mind as you meal may end up costing you more than expected. This is a very popular restaurant. With this, sometimes the staff can be stretched a little thin. This, though there are a lot of them. Just keep that in mind as during rush hours, you may have a bit of a wait. Overall, great place to get a good meal.
Rudy's Slipper was a fun brunch stop, and while the Benedict was solid, the fried green tomatoes were definitely the star of the show! I tried The Peacemaker, which lets you mix and match two Benedict options: Chicken St. Charles Benedict :Fried chicken breast served over a buttermilk biscuit with two poached eggs. I'll admit, I was nervous because I am NOT a poached egg person, but I'm so glad I stepped outside my comfort zone. The egg was cooked perfectly, and the whole dish came together really well. Bayou Shrimp Benedict :Gulf shrimp with pork tasso and Creole tomato sauce served over poached eggs and fried green tomatoes. Unfortunately, this one wasn't my favorite. The Creole tomato sauce didn't quite complement the flavors for me. My cousin ordered the Hot Honey Chicken Biscuit which was fried chicken tossed in hot honey glaze on a buttermilk biscuit with breakfast potatoes and enjoyed it. But let's talk about those Fried Green Tomatoes! Omgggg they were topped with lettuce, remoulade, fresh tomatoes, and a bacon-onion jam. The crunch from the batter was everything, but that BACON JAM was the unexpected highlight! I would definitely return to explore more of the menu. There are still plenty of dishes I want to try. #Flavorchaser Approved
Had a great brunch experience at Ruby Slipper. The food was excellent: fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we hoped for when visiting a New Orleans brunch spot. The menu offers plenty of creative Southern inspired options, and everything we ordered was well prepared. Marvin was friendly, attentive, and efficient. The atmosphere was lively and welcoming, with a fun New Orleans vibe that made the meal even more enjoyable. The only reason for the 4-star rating instead of 5 is the restaurant's inflexible substitution policy. I wanted to substitute for a single pancake, but that wasn't an option. It's a small issue, but a little more flexibility with simple substitutions would go a long way toward improving the customer experience. Overall, I'd definitely return and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quality brunch in New Orleans.

10/10 - my bestfriend and I came here on a Sunday morning during 4th of July/Essence Fest weekend & the food was amazing. I joined the waitlist while we went and had some fun at the sazerac house & the wait was fully worth it! the food was delicious and the mimosas were great too! definitely would recommend if in town
Went for the hype at Ruby Slipper Cafe and unfortunately... it just wasn't it for me. Used the app for reservations which at least helped put us on the waitlist, but there wasn't really an option for indoor vs outdoor seating and we ended up inside. Since it's such a popular spot, service was definitely slow. We were seated sandwiched between two other couples and overheard how delayed orders were, so we decided to order everything all at once. We got the fried green tomatoes, mimosa flight, cappuccino, and a boozy iced coffee. The mimosa flight was actually a LOT, and because it took so long for the server to come back around, I had to slow down my drinking just to pace myself with the food coming out. For food, I had the trifecta of bennies -- and I think we also got an omelet. I didn't even finish the trifecta, but to be fair, it's a LOT of food. The seafood bennie just wasn't giving what I hoped for. I've had some amazing crab cake bennies from smaller mom-and-pop spots, so I know how good they can be, but this one just missed the mark for me. The breaded chicken bennie was actually pretty good though, and the pulled pork/beef one wasn't bad either. The fried green tomatoes caught me off guard because they had a sweeter sauce or jam on them -- not what I expected, so I'd personally pass next time. I know a lot of people come here for brunch and bachelorette trips, but after going myself... I honestly don't really get the hype.
Brunch at Ruby Slipper Cafe was actually really cute for Mother's Day. It was PACKED, but the vibe was nice and they gave all the moms a sweet little card and a carnation, which was a thoughtful touch. The mimosa flight was overpriced and honestly... still nasty but that's probably my fault for thinking this time would be different. The morning margarita though? GOOD. New Orleans never misses when it comes to strong drinks. I had the trifecta eggs Benedict with three different styles and it was really good. The fried green tomatoes with the bacon jam were probably my favorite thing we ordered -- absolutely delicious and definitely recommend. My oldest daughter tried poached eggs for the first time with her Blackstone Benedict and loved it. It also came with a fresh little salad that balanced everything out nicely. My youngest got the hot honey fried chicken sandwich. Couldn't really taste the hot honey, but the chicken itself was fried perfectly, super tender, and flavorful. Overall, cute brunch spot, good food, strong drinks, and a nice Mother's Day experience.
Ok guys this place is the bees knees! Make sure you call in or stop by for a reservation cause this place is jumping. The wife had the catfish and cheese grits, I had the chorizo omelette with the fried potatoes and it was a win! I will be back next time I visit New Orleans.
Everything was lovely, from a surprisingly short wait time on JazzFest weekend, to quick service and great recommendations, to food served fresh, hot and delicious. The decor was nice and welcoming, with plenty of space between tables which is an issue with some NOLA restaurants. I didn't feel like I was sitting with my neighbors or overhearing their conversations. I appreciated the space! What more is there?
Love the Ruby Slipper. The wait can take awhile, but the service is super friendly and the food is delicious. I love the avocado toast which comes with fried capers and pickled onions. My spouse picked three of the eggs Benedicts. The chicken Saint Charles was the favorite of the three. The tasso sauce was so good and the fried chicken was so flavorful. We also get an order of bananas foster french toast for the table. So yummy!!

Excellent brunch spot with the best Eggs Benedict! I love Eggs Benedict and couldn't decide which one to try so I went with the Trifecta. The Trifecta comes with three different specialty Eggs Benedict: Cochon, Chicken St. Charles and Bayou Shrimp. The Bayou Shrimp Bennie features Gulf shrimp sautéed with pork tasso and Creole tomato sauce served over a poached egg, fried green tomatoes and a buttermilk biscuit. The flavors were vibrant and the fried green tomato was a brillant idea in my opinion. The Cochon Bennie had shredded tender pork over a buttermilk biscuit and topped with a poached eggs and finished with hollandaise. The pork was incredibly tender. Last but certainly not least was the Chicken St. Charles. It's a fried chicken breast served over a buttermilk biscuit topped with a poached egg finished with a pork tasso cream sauce. I can't decide if this was my favorite but it was definitely a winner winner chicken breakfast! Add a side of buttery grits and this was the best breakfast I've had in the last year. Service was kind and efficient. Even though they were closing soon people kept coming in which tells me they run a good business. read more

Not my first dine in at Ruby Slipper but my first at this location. Food always slaps! Love anything with the shrimp such as the shrimp and grits and bayou shrimp Benedict's. This location is bigger than the Decatur location with a lot more seating options. The servers are very sweet. Biscuits are super buttery and I love the honey butter. The iced coffee is great. Great breakfast place in downtown. We enjoyed our last breakfast here before heading home and it was the perfect choice. We got a boozy coffee, a flight, shrimp and grits, and a BLT. EVERYTHING was delicious. I was trying to be healthy and got the fruit as my side but I should have gotten fries or grits. The service was good but they were busy so not very chatty or fast. Stopped for a relaxing breakfast and left completely satisfied! They were definitely busy inside so while our server was very kind, we had to wait a little longer for things while she helped others. Thankfully we weren't in a rush so it wasn't a big deal We sat outside by the corner, it wasn't a super busy street so it was very nice to sit and enjoy a super yummy breakfast! Please make a reservation but know it's a small place and you will still probably wait. I suggest you come early. We were seated outside it's small they only have 4 tables outside. The service was good but the waitress isn't attentive the food was good we had the shrimp and grits were delicious the hot honey chicken and French toast was good. Came with my family as we were driving back from Florida. Easy to book online and checking in was easy. It was very busy, but was sat quickly. We ordered an array of breakfast items from candied bacon, beignets, fried chicken, waffles. The food came out fresh and hot, they all had great taste. The taste of the food was superb. The temperature for all three of our dishes were cold (we were the first to arrive in the restaurant, the first to order and we noticed folks that arrived after us eating their breakfast) we assume the food had been sitting. We called the manager (Vyron) over to inquire about the food temperature and we told us that the side of "hot salmon" was actually served cold to lukewarm and that the salmon avocado toast is also served cold. He did offer to bring my friend hot grits (we couldn't deny they were supposed to be served hot. I didn't bother to tell him that I've eaten there before and the food was served hot. We simply thanked him, finished our meals and left. Jenny was the true standout of this visit...her service recovery would make me visit again. Promote this women! read more

We came here on the recommendation of our hotel doorman. There was a crowd outside the Magazine St location (there are several spots), but we were seated within 15 minutes. The place was noisy but upbeat and the service was charming and very "local." We had delicious lattes featuring nearby French Truck Coffee, and some mimosas. The Gulf Shrimp omelette was a favorite, with big, plump, fresh shrimp, and accompanied by delicious grits and a biscuit with honey butter and jam. The place was hopping but service was great! We had a bit of a wait to get seated, and unfortunately, the air conditioning was out during our visit -- so it was definitely warm inside. That said, the staff handled it like pros. Everyone was clearly working hard and fast to keep things moving and make guests comfortable despite the heat. The food made it all worth it -- absolutely amazing! I was told on a tour that the Ruby Slipper was the place to go if you wanted a delicious lunch. It was excellent! They have a variety of different types of Egg Benedicts, and they even let you mix and match. I got the chicken and gravy and the Gulf shrimp. Each had a different "hollondaise." My favorite was the chicken, and the shrimp one was just okay (personally didn't love the flavor, but it was prepared perfectly). The biscuits were fluffy and light, and the texture was perfect. They do not take reservations, but you can add your name to the waitlist. My friend and I arrived on a Friday morning around 9am. We added our name to the list via Yelp and it was a 1-10 min wait; when we got to the hostess stand, I provided my name and we were seated right away. There was not a line outside, so I am glad we missed all that! It is loud, packed, but flows well. They turn tables over quickly once patrons leave. Our waitress was really nice and provided her favorite item to order from the menu. I went with her recommendation for the benedict. We ordered: Berry Chantilly Pancake (1 pancake as a side) Peach cobbler Beignets (sounds super sweet, but was not) The Peacemaker Bennie (Chicken St. Charles and Eggs Cochon) Migas The Chicken St Charles and Eggs Cochon Benedicts were amazing! They are prepared on a soft, fluffy biscuit with a perfect poached egg!! The beignets were just ok, they were not overly sweet, the peaches were good, but the beignet lacked flavor. My friend said the Migas dish had a bit of spice to it, but she enjoyed it. The Berry Chantilly Pancake was my least favorite and I am so glad I went with the waitress recommendation, otherwise this review would be totally different! The pancake was just that..a pancake with blueberries, I think I expected this blueberry compote filled pancake, but it let me down. The Benedicts were my favorite! read more

Not every Ruby Slipper is created equal, and that's a good thing. Each location is different in size, design, and decor, but the service was consistently great between locations! Going to this one on the last morning of my stay was a recommendation from a tour guide, and I'm so happy I went! The bloody maria I ordered was absolutely delicious! I love New Orleans, and I have never been to a food spot that I didn't like. With that being said, Ruby Slippers DID NOT DISAPPOINT! My friends and I went here for breakfast (it was my first time). I ordered the white chocolate bread pudding pancakes (per my server's recommendation) with a side of eggs and bacon. I also ordered the boozy coffee. Everything was soooo good. My boozy coffee was just right, with a mixture of Irish coffee, vodka, and whipped cream. The pancakes, of course, didn't need syrup. Everything was seasoned and tasted great! My friends had the other items. I tasted the French toast bites, which were delicious, and the taters. The blend of cheese, pulled pork, and bacon was sooo good. Lastly, we had the best server, and the experience was perfect. I highly suggest arriving early, as there may be an outside wait of up to 45-60 minutes. read more

No, but you can add your name to the waitlist on their website. BUT... you still need to get there and check in face to face to make it official. Expect a long wait.
Do they take online reservations? I see conflicting info on their website vs yelp reviews.
They don't take online reservations but you can put your name on the list for a specific time and when you arrive the wait time is 10-15 minutes
What are the vegan options or what can be veganized on the menu?
Nearly everything has some sort of milk or egg inside of it. Not recommended for vegan.
What is the average cost of the food?
Probably about $12 a plate, definitely worth it
Is the patio at this location covered?
There is some outside seating but not an actual patio and it is covered.
Is the outside seating dog friendly for non service dogs?
We saw a few dogs outside with their owners eating, none had service animal vests or collars on...so I would believe it's ok.
Do they accept large parties? I am trying to seat for 18
I would recommend giving them a call.
Can they accommodate large groups- we have 13?
It may take a little bit for you to wait, but they can accommodate. They also have waitresses that peruse the sidewalk out front taking drink orders to help the time pass.
Hi. Is there a separate gluten-free menu. Can menu items be made gluten free?
There is not a separate gluten-free menu. A couple items could be, as far as I'm aware
Is the menu the same everyday or is there a special menu for brunch?
Same every day
Would this place have a line if we come right at 7am on a Saturday?
The line doesn't get serious until 9 or so. They also have an app where you can put your name on the list before you get there!
