I've never been to this location before, but it was excellent and exceeded my expectations. I absolutely love her with slippers. Parents are the newest fantastic and their food is top notch. Several locations around the city. This one on Magazine St gives you some nice views in addition the good menu. They're big on boozey drinks to go with your meal and have a wide offering of them. I'm strictly a coffee and water guy in the morning - so I stuck with that. They let you mix and match several kinds of benedicts which I took advantage of. One had deep fried chicken and one had a fried green tomato. I hestitate to say which was better- loved them both. Pretty easy to find parking on the street nearby - dont pay to park on Magazine st. This was on our breakfast places to visit so we came to see if it was any good; turns out it was great! We saw how busy the downtown location was and were prepared for a wait, but we were lucky since we went to the one further out so we weren't fighting with all of the tourists who were staying in downtown. There were plenty of tables open, I think it was too early for all of the brunch people so we got seated quickly and easily. Our server has very friendly and the decor was kind of hipster but still had southern charm. I'd never had fried grits before so I didn't know what to expect but they were amazing. It was like a cake, but grits battered then fried, so they held their shape and had a wonderful crispy outside and gooey creamy inside; added with the benedict and hollandaise, the sauce added another layer of flavor with the crawfish and herbs. We ordered a couple of their signature dishes like the Sweet Heat Chicken and French Toast Bites and Banana Foster Pain Perdu; and we ordered their winter special, Chocolate Brandied Cherry Beignets. The beignets are nothing compared to that of Cafe Du Monde and Cafe Beignet (not that they're trying to be), but I did find it to be quite sweet, as was the pain perdu. Stopped in to grab a breakfast and picked this location since we were staying nearby. On a Monday morning there was not a large crowd nor was there a wait. We did call prior to heading to the restaurant and the recorded message directed us to their website for wait times. Then on the website were instructions to add yourself to the waitlist, which we did, and were told there was a 20-30 minute wait. That was perfect since it would take that amount of time for us to travel there, but since there was not actually a wait when we arrived, it was misleading. Our server was very nice and patiently waited while we decided what to order. I went with the sweet heat chicken and French toast sticks and a boozy iced coffee. I really wanted the creamy iced coffee, but that wasn't an option since I needed a milk substitute because the milk and vanilla syrup are premixed. The boozy coffee was just ok. I actually didn't finish it, and I hate to waste alcohol. The chicken and French toast was really good for the first few bites but quickly became too sweet. I think the syrup had a lot of sugar, and I had poured it on the French toast - plus the French toast was coated in sugar. It was too much. I would have preferred regular French toast (not coated in sugar) with the chicken. I don't think I would order that dish again. On the plus side, the service was quick. As for the restaurant, everything about it seemed very commercial to me, not sure why. I know it is a chain, although it didn't originally start that way, I believe that's how it's ran now..but there was something very "cookie cutter" about it. I also didn't like that all of the drinkware was plastic. The water "glasses", wine "glasses" and cocktail "glasses". I find that interesting in an establishment like this. I could see if it was a pool bar, but it's not, so that was a turnoff. read more

The Trifecta of benedicts were VERY good and flavorful - came with shrimp, fried chicken and pork. Also had the potatoes, but those were just mediocre for me. Also had the Sazerac Sipper drink which was great! They do not take reservations, but you can join the waitlist to get a seat. Told me about 2.0-25 minutes, but upon arrival, there were tons of seats/tables available. They might need to update the RSVP/waitlist system. Staff was accommodating, helpful and responsive. This restaurant is very popular in Nola especially for brunch so I suggest go early if you're coming with a group. The line might be long but its so worth it. You can also go on Yelp or their website and "join the waitlist". Its a good tool because by the time you walk or uber there, your table is pretty much ready. I started with Bacon Infused Vodka Bloody Mary. Dam! This was so good. I could tell the mix was made fresh. As far as food, I got the The Trifecta which was basically 3 kinds of egg benedicts. Eggs Cochon (Slow-cooked, apple-braised pork), Chicken St. Charles (fried chicken) and Bayou Shrimp Benedicts. The portion was huge but I devoured the entire thing cause it was simply delicious. Eggs were perfect and so much flavor from each benedict. To wash them all down, I just had to end it with their Mimosa. Again, fresh made and generous pour. This place is a must for brunch. This looks likes it's going in as a new review and not an update, but in either case, five stars. Ruby Slipper has become a big success for good reason. There are a number of outlets now, so one might consider it a ch.....that is to say, a chay.....--no, I can't quite bring myself to use the same word that one would apply to an Appleby's or Chipotle. (More like Zea, another local outfit that is enjoying success at multiple locations.) The Ruby Slipper menu is a stable collection of a variety of brunch-centric items like Benedicts and French Toasts and of course eggs a variety of ways, biscuit sandwiches that start with a fresh and flaky biscuit. There's a solid drink menu with a proper Bloody Mary garnished with pickled beans and green olives, the obligatory Mimosa, Irish Coffee, and other more exotic concoctions. They run specials, such as the crab cake Benedict I had. Fresh crab cakes, not fried or too heavy, with a Hollandaise that is just right in tartness, heft, and viscosity (geeze, makin' it sound like motor oil here, so for you gearheads, think of it as Mobil1 Hollandaise). The only "chain" sign was the server's warning that eggs would be poached, "would that be ok?" Sigh, "yes, poached please." (I suppose they need to ask these days. More importantly, the two eggs both came to the table hot and perfectly poached). Those biscuits are worth another mention, and there's a ceramic mug of coffee they keep filled AND at meal's close they offer a take-out cup, even if your blood-coffee level is 25% and caffeine smoke is coming out your ears. (That's me, whenever I'm around unlimited coffee). It's good strong coffee. They are Busy with a capital B, as in Better Get on the List and Better Not Make Other Plans for a couple or three hours around brunch. Recently a family member graduated at an early morning ceremony and we were able to walk in on Magazine Street. By the time we left some 40 minutes later, there was a line outside. This was a Tuesday morning. Weekends are considerably tougher. COVID19 considerations: The tables are spaced out more than I remember (which is a good thing: if I'm personally expanding in quarantine, so should my personal space). Servers are all masked. In general restaurants are serving inside again and it's possible this paragraph may be dated soon. I raise my icy cold and peppery Ruby Slipper Bloody Mary in the hope the folks who have neither masks nor vaccines stay home or at least live far away. read more

Good food and better service. It was my first time to this location and fortunately it did not disappoint. I've never been to the Baton Rouge location without a wait, so it was no surprise that there was a pretty significant wait for our party of 6. We were able to enjoy each other's company over some Bloody Mary's and Mimosas while we waited. As for the food--I got to try a French toast bite and it's a good thing there were a lot of us sharing this app because I wanted all of it. I did see there was a meal for this on the menu as well, with bacon... excuse me while I wipe up my drool. On this visit I was looking for something relatively healthy, and the good thing is that they do offer some options under a "lighter" menu. That being said, I went middle of the road and ordered the breakfast tacos, because they're kind of one of my favorite brunch items. I wasn't feeling like adding meat so I just got the vegetarian option, and I was very impressed with all of the flavors imparted by the eggs, veggies, cheese and sauce. I will say the rice and beans sort of felt like an afterthought (bland) but all I really needed was the tacos. Once again, the Ruby Slipper meets my expectations. I consider myself fairly talented at preparing biscuits and gravy, and theirs lived up to my high expectations. Their biscuits were awesome and the gravy was flavorful as well. When we got there, we also had to check in to wait until a table was ready. Once we we're told the table was ready, we had to wait for the table to be cleaned. But once you're in....a-maz-ing.
