Was excited to try this place Friday morning and was told that there was a 45 min wait and then they seated me in 10 minutes while having a lot of open seating. Then when I began to order I was informed that there was no chicken, sausage gravy, nor bacon so none of the options my party or I were considering were possible even thought these things are a big part of their menu. I understand not having certain foods, but then that should be known to us at the front. They are understaffed and not well organized. I felt bad for my waitress, hope she gets the rest she needs. Went here for a quick breakfast and I'd rate my overall experience a 3/5! Located about 3-minutes walking from my hotel. The customer service was good and the ambiance felt like a mom/pop shop. Located on Palafox this spot is near a lot of other shops and restaurants. My food was reasonably priced and came out in decent time. We had a 07:00 doctor's appointment this morning. We recently moved to Pensacola, so we asked the doctor for a recommendation for breakfast. He suggested Ruby Slipper. We had never been there and WAZE took us there. There was 2-hr free street parking in front of the restaurant. The decor is simple: metal chairs, license plate wall art. There's a strong flavor of New Orleans in the menu and other decorations. Our server, Donna. was extremely helpful and friendly. She kept our coffee hot and took care of our every need. The menu was full of breakfast/brunch items, since the hours today were from 07:00 am to 2:00 pm. We loved the shrimp, egg, and tortilla platter, and the scrambled egg, bacon sandwich with potato squares. Yummy. Then we finished with a plate of 6 beignets. Sunday brunch hours only a 15 min wait. Our server was awesome! I wanted the canoli stuffed beignets with whiskey cream sauce on the Winter Specials menu. They were out of those but they had the whiskey sauce so she got me regular beignets with whiskey sauce! Sooooo good! We decided on the loaded tots as well and I am so glad we did! At apple smoked pork on top was so tender and so flavorful. The pork tasso is it creamy sauce with little bits of ham in it. Service was absolutely unacceptable. Wait time on yelp was 1 hour, waited for over 2 hours and table still wasn't ready. Even though you check in online, you're still not "checked in" until you see the host. we were physically here for over 2 hours, but couldn't be seated. People walking in and out but since we didn't double check in, they "didn't know" we were here. BTW there's a "reply to confirm" option for the text... So Then we got seated, table was dirty floor was dirty. Seriously just not worth it. THEEENNNNNNN my order came out wrong. These bennies are huge. Came out pretty quick, food was warm not hot. When we left I looked at the line and it appears they have a quick grab pass area with a lot of the items under hot lights. Was waiting for what initially was supposed to be 15-20 mins that turned into an hour when it started thundering and downpouring. Staff started getting on to people waiting and telling folks they couldn't stand under the awning, which I get. It was blocking the door and entry. So some people (with infants and toddlers) went inside to wait and were told they couldn't wait inside either. Only option was to stand in the thundering rain? Watched as some people eating outside tried to stay dry by putting down the shade but were immediately told they couldn't do that and had to put it back up...and get drenched while eating. Was a bit put off so I left before I could be seated. I've been here before and food was ok. People seem to rave about it because they had great experiences in Nola but honestly, it's just ok food. The drinks were "Ok", we ordered several. The food was OK, but what left me astounded was their grits!! I received something like a bowl of watery grit soup! It was awful... I asked about it and the server said, " They aren't usually like this but today that's all we have." Come on, these are grits and somewhere back there is somebody who knows how to cook them! Even though it's a chain, the food is still so good and servers and staff all are super sweet. You have to get the vanilla iced coffee.
