I originally went to The Ruby Slipper when it was off Melrose in Vista. They always have done superior work on my Mephistos back in the day. I thought they went out of business but rediscovered through a friend that they moved to their new location off Hacienda Dr. by In 'N Out. I was so stoked - I took in a pair of Bacco Bucci boots which I loved to the very soles. Only $56 to re-heel AND resole the boots plus they were spiffed up to look like new. What a sweet deal and a great way to support local small business. I'm so glad to have rediscovered this jewel of a business and now know where to take in my designer footwear when it needs a little first aid or major surgery. read more

I took some leather boots in to be repaired. I have never had a pair of shoes "fixed", so I wasn't sure what to expect. These boots are years old, and were given to me for free, so the $40 cost to have them repaired didn't bother me. Not sure how that pricing compares to other shops out there. The entire sole had cracked in half on both sides. When I got them back, they were beautiful. I have never written a review, especially a bad one, but here it goes.... I've used this shoe repair i the past and have been satisfied, which kept me coming back. I recently dropped off two handbags and a pair of boots for cleaning and dying a small portion on one of the handbags. When I dropped them off a women I had never dealt with before took in the bags and boots and wrote up the ticket. I also had a pair of shoes of my husbands to resole, but asked the price, $50 and thought I would check with him first. I gave the bags and boots to the women she gave me a claim ticket, I asked her about how much for the bags and she said around $23, which I thought reasonable. When I went in to pick up the bags, the owner (who I've always dealt with) was there she got my bags and asked me which shoes I had dropped off (funny I couldn't remember) I thought this to be odd, shouldn't they tag things? Anyway, I pointed out my boots and she rang me up. She then told me my total was $93.75, OUCH!!!! I asked why so much, she then proceeded to tell me the cost of the one bag was $49.95, the other was $39.95 and the boots were $9.95 ( I was in shock!) When I told her what I had been quoted, she called her Mom from the back (the lady who took my bags and shoes at drop off) and asked her if she quoted $23 per bag, the Mom said "NO", then the owner proceeded to tell me they write the quote on the ticket if they quote. I explained to the older woman that I was not going to argue with her, but she did in fact quote me that ( I would have though twice about leaving the bags at that price) The owner said "Sorry, that's the cost", I told her I didn't have enough cash (there is a sign on the door that says they don't take credit cards) she then said we will take a credit card. She also told me there was a shoe repair in Vista that has lower prices! Now, I don't know about you, but I've worked retail for years and I was always taught the customer is always right (even if they aren't) and you always make exceptions and try to please the customer. With that being said, I will NEVER use this shoe repair again, I will seek the shoe repair in Vista and I will NEVER refer anyone to the Ruby Slipper. read more

I like this place. The repairs are well done and are quick, and the people are nice. $25 to recondition a $600 handbag that I had let get scratched and grayish was money very well spent. Prices are comparable to others in San Diego County. My only gripe is with the store hours. It opens too late and closes too early for someone with a regular job to get in. Being closed on Sunday doesn't help either. read more

Very expensive!! Took three cloth bags in to repair handles. Told when I went to pick up bags, that they replaced plastic base where handles where mounted to with all leather base. One of the bags had only one leather base replaced, yet I was charged full (EXPENSIVE) price for all three bags. Would never recommend! Terrible and not cheap!! Worst quality work and lack of work I have ever taken anything to a shoe repair shop to have repaired/fixed. DON"T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY WITH THIS STORE! read more

Great work, and very quick. Just a day or so for my two pairs of dress heels that needed a tune up. $17 or so for new heels on both pairs and some color touch up on the soles. I hear they will stop accepting credit cards soon, and sadly, that just means I wont be stopping in anymore :-/ It just becomes a little bit of an extra hassle and honestly, the convenience factor is so valuable here, for someone who has limited "errand time". read more

Had some cute shoes that I LOVED with my wedding dress. Problem was, they were super dirty, and I haven't had success in trying to clean them (#pinterestfail). Called a gazillion places trying to find somewhere I could get them cleaned, and finally got referred to Ruby Slippers. Dropped them off, picked them up a week later and they looked like new for only $10! What a relief since I already dropped my wedding dress off with the seamstress to get shortened according to the height of those specific shoes that the company doesn't even make anymore! I took a pair of hiking boots in a few months ago to get the toes re-sewed. They weren't ready a day after promised. Looked like they were still working on them. They gave them to me and I couldn't tell if one was repaired. Rather than sewing I think they just glued the one and after wearing about six times, it's clear it wasn't sewed as I can get my finger in between the sole and upper part. read more

Bought a pair of Frye boots over Christmas and thought I had measured and selected the correct size but when they arrived they were swimming around my calves. Zappos didn't have the size I wanted to exchange for so I held on to them since they were such a good deal. Found this shop online and soooo glad I did. She took in the calf portion of the boot and they fit awesome. She even conditioned the leather and added rubber soles to the bottoms. I love them! What skilled hands! I brought in a pair of equestrian boots to have the zipper replaced. When I showed the woman my boots, she said the zipper didn't need to be replaced and that she could fix it for $32. I happily obliged because a new pair of boots would cost me $400+. I received the boots within a week, and within two days the zipper ripped open again. This time, I couldn't get the zipper undone and ended up ripping the zipper handle off. I took the boots back in and the gentleman told me it would be $7 for a new zipper handle, and that they would "fix" the zipper again. When I came back to pick up the boots, they wanted to charge me $14 because they replaced both handles, even though it was not necessary. I only paid $7 after some going back and forth, but the real kicker was that my boots were still not fixed! In fact, I took them to a different shoe repair and they DID need a new zipper because there was a rip in the cloth where the zipper attached to my boot. Details are not their strong suit; I would not recommend this business to anyone. read more

Picked up my shoes, same women slightly better attitude. My shoe is fixed but the work doesn't look promising. I'll be looking for a new place to take my shoes to when they need repairs. read more

I take my shoes and purses to the Ruby Slipper any time a repair is needed and also for annual cleaning. They do an amazing job and bring life back to tired leather. Shoes too tight? I've dealt with this business twice. First I had a pair of orthotics re-covered and the material failed within two weeks. Returned them and of course there was a charge to add additional material to the previous inadequate material. While there I purchased a pair of Telic $40.00 flip-flop sandals from this merchant because they were touted to be fantastic. A few days later after they were expose to the sun, (imagine footwear in the sun) caused them to shrink up to the point I couldn't even get them on. Took them back to Ruby Slipper and was advised that they just sell them and don't warrant their products. They gave me the name of their distributor to contact which I did, leaving voicemails and didn't a response. I guess the old adage is true, "Let the buyer beware." read more

I took in two vintage pairs to get repaired. The first was a pair of 70's Frye boots. They re-heeled them and made the old leather look great. I wanted to keep a vintage look about them and they came out looking just like I wanted. The other pair was almost a miracle. These were my favorite shoes purchased many years ago that had holes in the soles and needed a major overhaul. When I got them back they looked brand new. The folks who here are great at communicating, the price seemed fair and they are quick (less than a week on Christmas week). I'll be back. read more

GREAT PLACE! I had a blow out on my favorite pair of Harley Davidson boots (Soles came unglued from one of the uppers) Went to this cobbler and asked if this could be fixed and was glad to hear "Of coarse" She asked if I had the other boot... she said if one is failing the other is not far behind and that she would take care of dissembling the other one and re glueing both boots. I dropped them of Wednesday before Thanksgiving and she said they would be ready Friday at Noon. When I picked them up Friday at Noon, I was amazed! Not only did they fix the problem, they Polished and moisturized them, lubricated the zippers, so they looked like they did 14 years ago when I bought them..... I would highly recommend this shoe repair shop. Great to see Hand craftsmen and women still doing that kind of service. Oh, I never asked how much the repair was going to be when I dropped them off, so when I picked them up, I was pleasantly surprised how reasonable the repair cost was....
