So I came here for their $2.99 semi-annual burger day a few days back which I normally go to the Long Beach location for. I just happened to be in the area but getting noticed to be served was not quite the same here. I didn't mind the wait 40 minute wait here, it was the wait after me and my daughter had to endure after we sat down at the counter and going unnoticed for another 15 minutes before Alex (Who was great) finally took our order. The three people who happened to be in front of us in line with us also sat to the left of us (They finished their burger by the time we ordered). The people who stood in line after us sat to the right of us. (They too happened to finish their burger before we got our burger but they were 2 giant dudes). The burger and fries deal was great, (Juicy and slight char on the burger) and a great way to donate to the Ruby Dooby foundation. As for the location, I think I'll stick to the Long Beach one as parking was easier as well. Over the years, service has gone from Great, to good, to mediocre and finally PAR AT BEST. Food is inconsistent, new menu is not appealing and too many changes. Service is terrible. Friendly servers when they show up to your table, if and when. Walked out at 4:00pm when one server was taking care (trying and failing) of the sim I g room as other servers we're trying g to leave and the GM and managers sat in the back and talked. Waited 15 minutes and walked out. Used to eat here at least once or twice a week. Haven't been back in months and I live 3 houses away. The good: Sergio is a very kind waiter. In fact, every waiter we've had at this location has been great. Very clean building, and quick service. Food always tastes fresh and delicious. Specials! (In September 2019) Thursdays is a wonderful special for a burger & fries for something around $7. And I believe they have a few other special nights like buy one get one half off or something and kids eat maybe. Idk but it's worth it. Don't be fooled by the name of the sandwich. It is not the same good old turkey sandwich that Rubys used to have. The sandwich now it's just thin turkey meat folded up and overly toasted bread. At least give options on the bread as the bread was so toasted it scraped the roof of my mouth! The change in bread for the Tuna Melt is just as bad. Not impressed with the new menu. I really don't like writing bad reviews but thought I would let others know, so if they are too craving a good milkshake. My family of four came here yesterday after a long day at Knott's. We ordered 2 milkshakes and sundaes. My son and I received our milkshake and it was so bad. It was as if they did not put any ice cream in it. The server provided us with big straws, which we did not need as there was little or no ice cream in the milkshakes. They gave us the silver tins so I thought maybe all the ice cream is in there and no it was the same. I have really been craving a good milkshake and I know ruby's diner use to have the best shakes. It was more like chocolate milk and strawberry milk. I am very disappointed and should have told our server at the time, but just thought I would leave it be and know not to come back when wanting a milkshake. Rubys was known for their desserts, but not anymore. Like my son said del taco has way better milkshakes you can taste the ice cream in them at least. If you were like us craving a good milkshake I recommend not coming here for one or you too will be very disappointed. read more

I met a friend here for breakfast. Going for something basic I ordered the two egg combo: Two eggs (scrambled), bacon, toast and potatoes. It was all good, nothing exceptional. I was a bit disappointed that the menu stated the bacon was "thick cut" but it was just standard thin bacon. Portions were large; I wasn't quite able to finish the potatoes (with peppers and onions) but otherwise my plate was clean by the end of the meal. Service was very friendly and attentive. Our food came out very quickly. As far as ambiance this is probably my favorite Ruby's location that I've been to. It's a historical building that has been restored and converted into this restaurant so the exterior is very cool. This review is strictly for this location and my most recent visit. Have been to many other locations and had no problems. The parmesan toast on my burger was completely greasy. The garlic fries I'm not sure if they do a true oil or what it was but the fries were undercooked and completely soggy need to figure out if you're going to drizzle something in oil cook it a little longer and drain them better. The Super burger was unapologetically gross! Only $12.99 my goodness, for twice the price as in-and-out, it was four times worse than any burger I have eaten. McDonald's is gourmet in comparison. Not to mention the havoc it wrecked on my stomach seven hours later. Please heed my warning, save yourself, enter at your own peril! I'd sooner work the 1860's grand railways than spend a lunch-in at this Ruby's. Much higher chance surviving uncontrollable TNT than a damn "super" burger. The "refillable" fries do exist but get refilled after you get the bill! And in a mini tray the size of a babies fist. Forget. It. Had to ask twice and wait 25 minutes for them. My advise: close this branch! Making people sick and work extra hard to get your promos is not a way to run a food business. The workers dress like they work in a coal mine, dirty and uncared for. I came here with family for my brother in law's birthday yesterday. First off I want to say that Gabriela was a great waitress! She helped my family pick menu items with recommendations and many options. The service was also very quick and pleasant throughout. I haven't been to Ruby's in quite a while because of the pandemic, but wow was it so nostalgic! I forgot how great the atmosphere is here with the music and decor. The food was actually really good too, maybe even better than I remember, and the prices were fair despite all the price hikes as of late. A surprisingly good place to meet for a casual business lunch. I'm not familiar with this mini-chain but my dining companions (both natives of SoCal) are. The building is large and has a nice sized parking lot. Inside I was greeted warmly and shown to a large roomy booth - most of the seating options seem roomy and more comfortable than your typical diner. As this was a business lunch, everyone wanted a salad (even me!), but there aren't a lot of salad choices. I ended up getting the 1/2 & 1/2 which was half of any sandwich (I chose a tuna melt) and a half salad (I went with Caesar). Both were OK. Nothing to get excited about, but not bad. Service was friendly and efficient with refills offered regularly. The menu is a bit smaller than what you expect at a diner - I don't think they offer their full breakfast menu all day for instance. I've never had a bad experience at this Ruby's. The staff is always friendly and attentive. This location is clean and the burgers are good....even the DE-LITEFUL burger options are tasty! The $8.99 Veggie Burger also comes with a small salad...you can order fries if you want, but it defeats the purpose of it being DE-LITEFUL. The salad is delicious! It comes with cherry tomatos, cucumbers, lettuce, and olives (but I take out the olives). The Veggie Burger itself is pretty damn good for not being meat! You seriously forget that it's a healthier option...so when I am watching what I eat and feel like having something close to a burger, I go to Ruby's. Their regular burgers are also good and the fries are thin and crispy, which I love! With two people you can eat with a bill between $20 - $30 depending on what you order. Had a friends service in the area so we decided to stop for some lunch. Always loved the Ruby's chain of restaurants. The parking lot is enough for 30-40 stalls and a few that have like a drive-in/car hop set up in front. Lighted parking lot with two handicap stalls. Parking lot was very clean. The front door has a A+ rating. The very friendly server greeted us with a friendly smile and we were immediately seated. Lot of memorabilia everywhere with posters and pictures. They even have a motorcycle on display. Approximately seating for 90 or so. Booth and table was very clean and the AC was just right. Very nice menu's (Breakfast & Lunch). Breakfast is served any time along with lunch. Menus are clean and very easy to read. Lot to choose from and a very well rounded items. Our meal was hot and had a great presentation. We just ate at Ruby's and really enjoyed their food. We both ordered the Seafood Combo expecting smaller portions that is pictured in the menu. We were very surprised to receive a plate with "very large" portions of shrimp, cod fish, coleslaw and plenty of french fries. The food was great and the atmosphere was very energetic. We ate in the restaurant vs the outside. We were seated upstairs and were seated within 10 minutes of putting our name on the waiting list. The price may seem a little spendy but the portions make up for it. We also ordered to their chocolate milkshake and this delicious drink. I like Rubys. Children's menus pretty much always stink and I can tell you my 12 year old daughter is happy to be ordering off the adult menu. Yesterday we came in here and ordered up our food, but we did receive poor server attention. This was backed up by the fact that a table was seated after us and then received their food just before our waitress came to tell us she threw our order away... And could we reorder. This made us late, but it happens. I think what is disappointing is that you can observe a behavior that causes those types of mistakes. My burger ended up being well done instead of medium rare, which was irritating, but like I said the order issue already made us late. Although I've enjoyed the Ruby's Diner chain for years, the Anaheim location has been my long-time favorite. Why? Because it really feels like a diner, versus a restaurant designed to simply look like one. Maybe it's because this Ruby's was built in one of downtown Anaheim's oldest remaining buildings but, whatever the reason, the atmosphere's terrific, and the place just feels right. Beyond the locale, it's the standard Ruby's menu, though prepared and presented by a great group of employees. The standard diner favorites (burgers, tuna melts, fish and chips, etc) are all here. I really like the decor at this location, although Ruby's isn't known for their car hops. I guess they tried to create a Sonic-type car hop, which didn't work out. Their burgers are good, and always hit the spot, but they also have other comfort food like turkey pot pie, fish and chips, and even breakfast food. The service here (or for the most part, any Ruby's) is slow. You can get 2 refills on your drink before the food arrives, and it baffles me that the fries are just warm, not scalding hot. That's my pet peeve.. serve the fries as hot as the burger. Who likes cold fries? Not me. There's ample parking here but a pain to get out if you're heading to the freeway. Overall: Grade C+ Good, comfort food but not quite a 4 star read more
