The positives: Our server was very nice and attentive. He checked on us a few times to make sure we were doing well and refilled our coffee/ drinks. The diner itself is super cute with huge booths large enough to fit eight people. Their kids menu turns into a cute car the kids can decorate with stickers and take home. The decorations with old model cars and cookie jars shaped like modes of transportation were adorable. The strawberry lemonade with the muddled strawberries was refreshing. The negatives: The food was mediocre if that. I got the waffle combo. The waffle was good, the bacon was COLD and my "poached" eggs were a soupy mess. The pancakes we got were burnt and the corned beef seemed like it was straight out of the can. We may try out lunch to see if it's any better.. but I won't be coming back for breakfast. read more

When on the road for a family vacation we try to eat at places that are not in our area. Ruby's was our choice this day. Upon entering we noticed that it was a 50's theme with vintage booths, decor and music!! The server was super friendly and all employees wore throw back uniforms making it a truly unique experience. Went here during Labor Day and it was super busy. Not enough waiters to service the tables. The food took quite some time to arrive and I think I saw my waitress three times during the whole visit. The upside is Ruby's now offers fries refills which they didn't before. I had the Cobb burger which was pretty juicy and big. It's almost like a bleu cheese cheeseburger at other places. The fish and chips were pretty good, the fish was crispy and not soggy because I'm sure it comes from a freezer. Overall not a bad trip, probably would of been different if it wasn't a holiday. read more

I came here a few times I got burgers, fish and chips it's not too good is ok for the price over 12$/ea the store look clean not too busy. Thanks for open it up after this Covid 19. I love the idea of 6ft apart so everyone can have some space not next to each other. I'm small about 5"2 and the chair is really small to get in. Hopefully we can get more rooms between the chair and the table for taller people and extra space for stuffs and purse. The parking is not too bad today Thursday morning, the staffs is friendly and nice. Good customer services. We got in right away. Missing their milk shake. You will have extra milk shake when you sit there but only a cup if you Togo. They put it inside the paper cup and you don't have extra one that they normally gave you with same price. All the servers were at one corner complaining about how slow it was while the manager was next to them, letting them get away with this kind of conversation in front of guests. My server dropped the food and never checked back. I get it. It's just burgers and fries, but If she checked on me, her 15% tip could quickly go up to 22%. When I asked for the bill, my server dropped the POS machine in front of me and said, "here you go" did not say thank you, or asked if I needed more water or how the food was. she was in a hurry to go back to the server huddle. The only reason I went out of my way to write this review is that there are so many good places to eat around this area, and I picked the wrong one. This place was so delicious! I came here with my party of 10 for my 5 year olds birthday and it was kid friendly as well. They asked me would I prefer the big circle booth or two tables together and they accommodated me very well! I ordered the burger w/garlic fries and the fries were crispy and good. The burger was a 10/10 for me. I got everything on my cheeseburger and the vegetables were fresh and the sauce they used was soo good! I give the garlic fries a 7.5/10 becasue i wish they used more garlic on my fries! I love garlic haha. They brought the food out pretty quick for a party of 10, which was much needed for my crazy babies haha! (5 and 2 and 5 months) They also had a cute car building cardboard toy for my 5 year old to enjoy and I built one for my 2 year old. My kids loved the chicken tenders. My 5 year old is picky so I peeled off the breaded part of the chicken because the chicken tenders are a bit crispy. Eh, I used to like Ruby's a lot better than I do now. Today I got the Vegwich sandwich with fries. I didn't want a burger or anything too greasy (except for the fries). The sandwich had warm toasted Milton's bread (love this bread) but the cheese was cold. I think it would've been better if the cheese was just a bit melted. I don't know, I guess I expected more taste. It was bland and cold. Serves me right to order a low-cal entré. THEN, the fries were barely cooked. The waitress said the fries are all on a timer so that's just the way they are unless you order them well done. So I ordered an extra plate well done. Neither fries were salted either. Aargh I know this isn't a 4-star restaurant, but I definitely expected better. I'm disappointed ... and I actually like Ruby's. Just because someone orders a vegetarian plate doesn't mean you slap on a bunch of lettuce, tomatoes and avocados with no seasoning or 'zing'. Make it tasty Ruby's! Come on! I left the restaurant leaving 1/2 my sandwich and most of the fries. Waste of money today. :( read more

Welcome to Ruby's Diner. It feels like I'm in a Happy Days sitcom episode. What a great way to start your day. It's bright and cheerful with the hostesses dressed like the 50's. Big red leather booths and trains on the ceilings. Your kids will like it here. Our boys like to eat and their portions are generous and it tastes like the breakfast your Granny would make you. The good: Service was good (except when I received the wrong order). My son loves the cardboard cars, it kept him fully occupied. Decent selection of food. Located in the outlet shopping center, so it is convenient when you get hungry while shopping. Nicely decorated The bad: Food is sub par. While the burger meat tastes fresh, it still lacks flavor. The seafood items are definitely frozen items and way overpriced. Servers need to pay attention to tickets, I received the wrong order that was meant for another table. Waffle combo tickled my fancy this morn...waffle, eggs, bacon....what can go wrong?!? Waffle was sweet and salted butter and bacon added to the "umami" combined with the eggy goodness... I left full and satisfied. Ambiance is 50's soda jerk, prices are in line with expectation, and staff was friendly, prompt, and courteous... this just might be my new stopping point! Was really sad when the mission valley location closed, but was happy to find the Carlsbad one is still around. Headed up last week around 2ish for a late lunch. They are still keeping up with Covid protocols (every other booth) Our service was pretty fast, food hasn't changed. Hubby got the Beach burger still yum with the Parmesan sourdough bread. I had the Cobb burger & subbed out for the same bread. Got their Frings to share. Really missed their onion rings--no one else makes them like Ruby's does. This establishment was a family favorite for many years. The ambiance, with the model train above the diners, vintage posters and a diverse menu. It was a great breakfast spot as well. It was one of the local establishment we supported during the COVID lockdown. Unfortunately, it appears COVID has taken its toll on Ruby's. We went for breakfast and were very disappointed in the anemic options. It was probably one-fourth of the pre-COVID options. My daughter simply ordered a hamburger I had some onion rings and my wife had French toast. The quality of the meal had faded like the vintage Coke posters that decorate the walls. The service was good, and our server was clearly trying. I felt guilty having to point out we were charged for coffee no one ordered and had a redo on my check. But I would not fault the service for the cutbacks made by the home office. I'm glad to say that years back, we got to enjoy the kid-friendly atmosphere with the roving animal balloon artist (not sure if it still happens), the train, the robust menu and quality fare. I really like Rubys, and I wont come to this one again. My friend, her almost 2 year old daughter and I wanted to eat here, and wanted to sit outside at the very last table because we had a toddler, and a stroller loaded up with a ton of shopping bags. I sat down at the table, and my friend went to the front to find out if we were able to sit here. The hostess said she needed to make sure no one else wanted to sit there. No one else was waiting for a table, nor was there anyone else in front of my friend, so who exactly did she need to check with? She started asking guests who came in after her if they wanted to sit outside at this table. It was the most ridiculous thing. Had I known this, I would have said lets just leave and eat somewhere else. I found out after. My friend just ended up walking away and joining us at the table. I went inside to get a kids menu and it took about 5 minutes. The girl I finally got to pay attention to me, told me to go up front to get it. I said there is a kids meal right back there on the counter, are you kidding me? She rolled her eyes at me, picked it up and tossed it on the counter to me. I really have NO idea why we stayed here. When a waiter finally came outside, he came back about 10 minutes later with our water, apple juice and diet cherry soda. For some reason when I ordered my soda, the waiter laughed, Not sure why? When I did get it, the ice was almost all melted and it had absolutely no flavor. No flavor seemed to be the theme of our meal. We ordered... my friend had the Vegwich, her daughter had the mac n cheese and I had the chipotle guacamole turkey burger. She said her sandwich was horrible and had nothing to it, and no flavor. You cant really ask an almost 2 year old what she thought of her mac n cheese but she barely ate it. My burger was cold and had zero flavor. It was very odd. I literally didnt taste anything until my last two bites where I tasted a hint of chipotle sauce. The table next to us returned their low carb tacos, as something was wrong with them, and ordered a burger instead. The burger came out right away. Our food took about 15 minutes. We both had salads... I ordered the side salad, it was on my plate and tiny - not an actual side salad like the other rubys serves. We also did not get ranch until our meal was almost done - for both of our salads. Every other Rubys I have been to has always given the kids something to do... color, build a car, many things... this one did not do that. The service was horrible and it was really a horrible lunch - I will not return and I dont recommend it! Also, on the way home my friend got extremely sick and we had to stop and pull over. I was also feeling extremely sick and like I was going to throw up. I ended up stopping for some pepto bismol pills... and thankfully never threw up... but seriously, never again. read more
