We stopped here for breakfast. I love the retro ambience here. The beignets caught my eye and I ordered them and coffee. This was a sweet surprise for my wife. The beignets were delicious and it's been at least two years since we've had them. The wait staff were so nice. Everyone you come in contact with was very upbeat and polite. For our main breakfast we split a turkey Benedict with seasoned potatoes. The picture is half of the order. Very large portions! It was delicious. Ruby's diner was so much better when they were corporate they had a better standard standard of cleanliness quality food. I've come there for years and things have just gone downhill at this location. Instead of spend money on a new bar, but how about spending money on the bathroom or spending money on keeping your menu they put in a bar a bar in a diner ? And the food using extra salt and seasoning and oil makes it taste good by the cinnamon roll. French toast is gone the quality that they used to have with a lot of the items they carried, which some of them aren't even on the menu anymore and the quality is changed. They've tried to choose cheaper options to make the same thing and it doesn't taste the same and they're charging more now which I understand because I'm inflation but you're dropping the quality the same quality you've always don't get me started on the management Oh yeah, they do good making their rounds greeting customers but one in particular I don't know his name overweight, short, slick back hair a few times that has come over there's just this musky smell at first I thought it was something else but now it's coming from him and this cheesy ingratiating smile. It is said that age is just a number. But then at what number are you supposed to be comfortable being "old"? Is it when the songs you grew up listening to are now played on the oldies stations? Is it when you become a grandparent? Is it when the majority of your hair has gone grey? Or is it when you begin to really enjoy coming to Ruby's diner because it makes you feel young? Some may consider the 1950's theme of the restaurant tacky, but to me it is classy and nostalgic. And I'm not even someone that lived through that time, but irregardless, I love everything about it. It was the first day of work for the waitress that we had on our visit to Ruby's, but you would have never known. She was extremely attentive, courteous, and friendly. I wish I would have gotten her name to shout her out, but alas I did not. To whoever you are, we are grateful to have been served by you on your very first shift! Like many have stated in previous reviews, the food is simple -- it's your classic American diner food -- which isn't so bad every once in a while. I do highly recommend the malts as they are highly above average and a throwback to yesteryear. I'll never know if I made as big of an impact on Ruby's as she made on me. This was perfect for dinner with two grandkids, me and their other grandmother. We were hungry and tired after a long day of traveling then being at the beach. Each employee was friendly and efficient. The manager stopped by our table to ask about our dining experience. We ordered breakfast food (scrambled eggs and hash browns), a grilled cheese sandwich, a cheeseburger, fries, onion rings, and a strawberry shake. Everything was delicious! First time at a Ruby's diner. Jeremy and I headed to the Carlsbad Outlets since it was within walking distance of our hotel and we had time to kill. I was hungry (as always) so we went to Ruby's. There was a short line on the Sunday morning before noon. The hostess was very nice and came out to ask how many in each party but still ended up seating everyone in order. We were seated and a very enthusiastic waiter came and got our drink and food order. I went with a bacon cheeseburger since I wanted to try the fries that people on Yelp were raving about. We watched the train going around the railroad track hung from the ceiling and saw the waiter give some kids a paper car they could pop up and put together. Out food came and it was okay. The bacon in my burger was floppy and as were the fries. I was underwhelmed by the food. Once we finished, our waiter brought us the check and asked if I wanted another strawberry lemonade for the road. This is the sadly the first time that's been offered so I was happy about that even if I turned down the offer since we'd be shopping. I give 2.5 stars for the food and 5 stars for the hospitality. I probably won't be back to a Ruby's Diner but it did fill me up and was conveniently located in the outlets. read more

Disappointed. When I pay $3.50 for a soda that is flat and never gets refilled, I get a little salty. The hamburger and fries were good, but after the food was delivered, we didn't see a server again to request either a refill or an alternate drink. Both my wife's drink (Dr. Pepper) and my son's (Sprite) were incredibly flat. I guzzled my water and would have loved a refill, but unless I was going to go get it myself or flag someone down, it wasn't going to happen. So, yeah. The food was fine. Last time I dined here was during the Christmas/New Year's holiday season so there were plenty of diners. It was clean and well lit w/ 50s - 60s flair; red and white color scheme. Seats are roomy w/ huge tables allowing you to feast. Food was fast, delicious, and plentiful. Waitstaff was friendly, attentive, and upbeat! Surprise for the efficient service , we did not Waiat all considering it's the weekend and the flower field nearby . Today it's seems like they have it down to science, there was several busboy that do the clean up as soon as customer leaves. There's always someone someone in the front to usher you in, food server right to take your order, paying was seamless via their small tablet system. Oh yeah the food. Our server was very nice! I like how they give kids a cardboard cutout of a classic car. It definitely keeps them occupied. We were seated by the tv, which also kept my daughter busy. The food came out very quickly. We ordered a sandwich, cobb salad, a Mac and cheese kids meal, and strawberry milkshakes. The portion of the salad was huge. Seriously, A+ to the customer service here! My friend and I walked in with our gang of kiddos! The hostess was kind and walked us to our table. Then our server, Erick and the manager came over to help us set up at a corner table, which was great for all of our kids. The kids even got these paper cars you can build which kept them very entertained. They were all just so kind and helpful. I think fresh salsa might have helped bump up the flavor factor. Weekends parking can be rough so going during the week is easier. Service was great! Such a cute little diner! I love the theme, loved the staff's outfits and I especially loved the car cutouts they give the kids to keep them entertained. My husband ordered the avocado burger and the presentation was on point and it was huge. I ordered the turkey sandwich with the cranberry sauce, so good. The food was fresh and the bottomless fries were my fave! Seriously the best fries I've had. We arrived Saturday at about 1:30, and were seated right away. Classic American Diner vibes. When you enter the diner, it feels like a set on Grease. The plastic cherry red booth seats, the waiters and waitresses red strip uniform, and the smell of burgers in the air..you are transported to THE 1960's American Diner. The service was exceptional! The server was attentive and kind, making sure to double check our order and checking up every so often as we enjoyed our meal. I ordered the Veggie Omelette and it came with Ruby spuds and a choice of: toast, English muffin or hot beignets. Of course, I went for the beignets! The omelette was fluffy and the mushrooms sautéed to perfection. The spuds were crispy and perfect with Ketchup. And the beignets were crispy, airy and sweet! I had to get my oil changed at Bob Baker and decided to walk over to the diner on 6/20 around 9:30 am. The service was great all around--the waiter (Jesus) and the food deliverer were very attentive and kind and I saw the hostess smiling and sweeping the floor while she wasn't seating guests. Seriously the service was great. I felt so cared for. I ordered 2 mimosas and the pancake breakfast and it was delicious. Eggs were cooked perfect (over medium) and the pancakes were fire flames--so good! Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and going out to breakfast is my favorite thing to do on earth (so I know my pancakes). I live in San Diego and haven't come across pancakes this tasty. So glad I don't have gluten issues, praise Jesus. I paid about $33 for everything which I think I reasonable given the location and the restaurant's ambiance. Oh yes, and the restaurant is very clean. I'm a clean freak so I am very well pleased This will be my go-to spot for now on when I get my oil changed at Bob Baker! This place is legit! The manager Jesus comes around and make sure your all set and comfortable. Waitresses occasionally check on your drinks. The food is phenomenal, possibly one of my top diners to go to whenever we come and visit Legoland and need to charge my Tesla. The positives: Our server was very nice and attentive. He checked on us a few times to make sure we were doing well and refilled our coffee/ drinks. The diner itself is super cute with huge booths large enough to fit eight people. Their kids menu turns into a cute car the kids can decorate with stickers and take home. The decorations with old model cars and cookie jars shaped like modes of transportation were adorable. The strawberry lemonade with the muddled strawberries was refreshing. The negatives: The food was mediocre if that. I got the waffle combo. The waffle was good, the bacon was COLD and my "poached" eggs were a soupy mess. The pancakes we got were burnt and the corned beef seemed like it was straight out of the can. We may try out lunch to see if it's any better.. but I won't be coming back for breakfast. read more
