If you are from out of state Ruby's is a popular beach stop. Being in Orange County Ruby's has been my favorite spot for malts done right. This was my first time driving to Ruby's in Laguna beach and like all beach cities-especially in Orange County-have patience getting there. The overall experience was less than exciting. Dirty bathrooms (with no toilet paper), fries barely warm, "Cajun" is a light freckling specifically down the middle. The kids breaded chicken is heavy bread with lots of cornmeal (which some people love) It was a bit more vibing of 80's cafeteria with an aging novel facade. Everyone there was hustling-you could tell, but food/service/execution was flat. Nothing horrible, but not great. My favorite Ruby's is near Carlsbad state beach, but that is north county San Diego. Malts no matter the location have been consistently good, but food and atmosphere tends to differ a lot on execution and how warm it is when you receive it You can split a malt depending on how much you want to chow down (you have the glass and the tin which is about 1/4 full) read more

The milkshake and the fries saved my meal. Other than that it was "okay" food. Got a chicken sandwich and it just tasted off to me. Reminded me of rubber bands . My bf and I got some food to-go at this Ruby's location and we were both surprised at the quality of the food. He got a burger, which was really delicious! The cheese was just oozing off! I got the Ruby's club sandwich, which had TONS of chicken and lettuce and was pretty good! Their clam chowder was surprisingly good as well! Cool place. Service was mediocre but we tipped him well anyway given the waiters' older age. The real bummer was that my burger, and chili fries were freaking cold. Visited here for the first time with my family a while ago and the food was fairly good. Not amazing, not outstanding, good. Of course I wasn't expect more than that, as Ruby's seems to be the place you go for a good experience, not 5 star cuisine. As for the staff, I thought they were wonderful and attentive. Our server was Kyle, and he was great! However, I was very disappointed with the way the manager was yelling at one of the Ruby's girls and interacting with her in an aggressive manner. Got an email mail from Ruby's inviting me in for a Veterans Day free shake.11/11/2022. The employee's appeared to me to be rude and shouted to me they do not honor this for me. They seemed to enjoy denying the shake. Yes, time and energy and gas to get there. No wonder there are closing of some of there locations. Tried to contact them at the corporate office and three times given the wrong email address. I live in a community of 253 location, all connected by email and I will be sure to let everyone know how I was treated. This has provoked discomfort to me and I will never again go to a Ruby's. read more

Me and my friend wanted some quality burgers after a long day at the beach, so we turned to a quick and easy dinner that was walking distance but the mood was soon ruined after being asked to cover up. We were both covered and not showing anything. As another person said in another review it seemed like a slut shame. It honestly felt like a negative motive towards age, gender and even body image. I didn't appreciate the comment after it made me feel uncomfortable. I would appreciate it if they spoke more nicely, as in using please and thank you, but clearly the hostess that was sitting us didn't know what that was. After using the restroom and thinking twice, we were over it so we decided to leave and not return. The mood around the dinner felt very judgmental and not welcoming. They could atleast provide details to the dress code on a sign outside, cause apparently a walk in dinner next to the beach has one. read more

The workers are always so nice and accommodating here especially for having to deal with laguna beach tourists! However, i'm guessing this woman was the manager or someone of authority (older blonde woman) was being so disrespectful and condescending to her own employees as well as customers! She got mad at a male employee who had packed up togo food for not putting a lid on correctly like girly it's not that deep and a not a reason to be so rude to your employees! My boyfriend walked back in and she made a passive aggressive comment about him not having shoes on. He definitely should have had shoes on of course, but it's laguna beach and it could have been handled in a much more polite manner, especially from someone who is representing the store. First time trying Rubys in Laguna Beach was on November 11, Thursday 2021. My girlfriend and I were unaware that they had a location out here. We both liked this location as opposed to the Whittier location because this location had a red 50s car outside in front, plus other 50 car classics outside, how cool is that? And this location even has an outside patio seating area on top of the building which is very cool. I would like to try that seating area next time on a nice warm sunny day. Sadly, we saw a paper on the window that the establishment has "filed a chapter 11 bankruptcy." My girlfriend and I love Rubys and we hope they pull through and do not go out of business. Secondly, when we arrived, although the parking lot looked big enough for a good amount of cars, it was a full house. It was limited in parking space. Rubys is also off a busy roadway near the beach. And when arrived, the woman who works the front told us we had to wait outside which sucked because we were right in the sun. I felt her customer services skills could have been better, even though I don't think she means to sound rude, as I heard her telling other people in the same manner and tone. When arriving inside, it was very busy and they looked short on staff. The rest of the staff who took our order and brought our food out were very friendly and nice, I think even nicer than the one in Whittier. But I would have to ask my girlfriend's opinion and see what she said. In addition, they have a really cool 50s bicycle with a motor on it, near the tables, and more cool classic items that the Whittier location does not have. Inside you see Coca-Cola items everywhere which give that old-fashioned vibe. Even outside where we parked we saw their food truck parked which looked awesome! I also love how they have a really big dining table that goes all around the kitchen Very cool! I like how this location is more or better decorated than the Whittier location in the shopping plaza. As for the food, the fries are delicious as always, the burger was good. The only thing I would recommend is to serve the cheese melted. I hate when it's not melted at all, and it looks like it came right out of the fridge. Overall, we had a great experience there, the prices are very reasonable or cheap. I have been going to the rubies franchise and this location for a long time, I will not be coming back and eating here again. The person in charge was named Frederick. My girlfriend and I go to the Ruby's in CDM and Newport Beach all the time (which are normally great and I highly recommend), but yesterday we were in Laguna and figured we'd stop in at this Ruby's since we hadn't visited this one before. We were seated and it took over FIFTEEN minutes for anyone to even come to our table to take drink orders. (Came in a tick before 7:30, the first time we were even acknowledged was a tick after 7:45). We were just kinda sitting there waiting and waiting for someone to come by to take our order while other tables were being helped multiple times while we hadn't yet been helped at all. We felt ignored the whole time as they only checked on us one other time besides bringing us our food (which seemed like it was sitting out for a bit?). I work in customer service so I know how it is sometimes, so I hate being that guy that complains, but it wasn't busy at all and we were straight up ignored most of the time unfortunately. Ruby's had such great service for our visit! We waited to be seated on the outdoor patio upstairs. Our waiter, Rigoberto, moved around tables and umbrellas so that we weren't sitting in the sun. I asked for a booster seat and they said they had none. The place was almost empty. I asked for a new waitress, got a booster seat from a compassionate busboy and had to deal with the same waitress. Rubys was once a nice place to get a good meal in a clean and pleasant atmosphere with excellent service. I found that is no longer the case at the mission viejo rubys. I sat in the nearly empty restaurant a good 10 minutes before the coffee I ordered was delivered. and it was burnt tasting, indicating that they aren't cleaning the coffee pots. very disappointing as they used to have a good cup of coffee. My breakfast was partially cold and the water I asked for never did appear. the waiter looked hung over with dirty hair and a uniform that wasn't fresh. it's like they don't want your business. This place is one of the friendliest Ruby's!!! We just came here for ice cream. The servers are all pretty young and are all very kind and welcoming, but what really makes a difference is the management! He did his rounds and greated everyone!!! This location also recently supported Special Olympics with the local police department. Today we got to witness the check presentation. It was a nice treat today. Just ice cream and fries with 2 of my kids. Upstairs is pretty cool too. All the tables have shade and views the ocean. Delicious food, could've been more stores if we had better device. Actually, a gentleman led us to our booth since we weren't being helped at the front at first and he was the only person who gave us the right customer service. Other than that, the rest was down the drain. All of the girls were all over the place. Our server in particular kept forgetting what we ordered and we had to constantly remind her. We didn't mind at first, but then we caught her exchanging information with a photographer on a different booth and having some wonderful conversation about her being a model and wanting to work with him...great right? We let it go. But even after she got his info or gave her info, she still forgot our lemon iced water we asked for since the beginning of our visit. Oh yeah, and we ordered bottomless fries, and paid the extra $1 which allows us to get any type of fries from regular to Cajun to garlic to sweet potato. Pretty awesome! But when we asked if we could try the Cajun fries next, she asked us if we wanted to order it as an appetizer?? Didn't you tell us we could refill any type of fries we wanted? Isn't that why we paid the extra $1? She didn't make any sense. At the end, we waited for over 20 minutes for our check and our water and never got it so we got up and went to the front register. We told the employee up front about what happened and she apologized and got our waitress. Our waitress came to us and looked scared but acted like she did nothing wrong. She even tried to compliment my hair -_- then my fiancé asked if we could just get our water to go since we're already leaving. I paid, she didn't give me receipt and she just walked away to get our water and then came back and just put the cup of water on the counter and walked away. I was disappointed with my experience today when I arrive there were three employees sitting at the bar to the left and when I walked in one girl got up the others didn't move and when I ordered my shake she said there was only one size, I said it was OK and it's 6.75 for the shake And when I got to my car and looked it was only halfway full, they put some whip cream in it to make it look fuller and I got to my car I realize that they had only put in little over half of a cup full, super disappointed won't be back to this location. BAD FOOD!!! I love Ruby's Diner but this one is horrible. I ordered my food to go and when I got there everything was cold and our shakes where melted. There were very little fries in each meal and the chicken strip meal came with five strips and the appetizer came with five also but the meal was $14 while the appetizer was $10. The chicken chips were dry and bland. I ordered two things of macaroni and cheese and one of them had an old piece of lettuce in it. For $73 I expect more and better quality food. I am very disappointed in this Ruby's Diner and do not recommend eating there. read more

The wife needed a date day so I skipped work for the day. Did our usual roaming, walking and exploring in Newport and Laguna. Decided on lunch here. We visit fairly often here and at the Carlsbad Outlet location. Awesome. Awesome food. Awesome service. Waitress was an absolute joy to deal with. We never had to ask for anything. Spending a day at the beach, and heading into our favorite roadside diner, Ruby's! Classic cars on the outside - it's a great spot. The waitresses, waiters, and managers are always very friendly. They checked on us constantly and made sure we had everything we needed. A little girl threw up on the floor, two booths away from us. The waiters/waitresses jumped into action immediately. Cleaning the entire floor, and helping the little girl feel loved and secure. They cleaned her up, gave her wipes, and smiled the entire time. The parents were relaxed, and no scene was made. I thought that was absolutely fantastic. I saw the father offer the bus boy a fat tip -- bus boy refused. Classy. Food's always great. I'm never let down. read more
