I'm going to give it 5 stars for a couple of reasons. Although the food order took quite a while to be delivered to our table, it's only because it is a very popular restaurant and they were very busy. My ahi tuna sandwich was incredible! My kids had mac and cheese and a burger and my husband had a burger as well, all of which report very tasty. The service is fantastic, our server Serenity has the nicest demeanor and the best attitude. And even though our food took a while, she still was very attentive to our needs. We just stopped in for a baseball tournament, and this was a wonderful selection for a bite to eat in between games. I would highly recommend it, and if in the area again, we will certainly come back! read more

The outlet stores were grea! This bad review is for Ruby's Diner the only place we had a problem with! Decided to try this place yesterday at around 4pm, Horrible service. There was only like 2 tables occupied, practically empty. It loooked like there were 10 employees in that place and not one offered us a place to sit. We finally walked up to one of them and said do we just sit anywhere? She replied "oh didn't see you there" we were practically in their faces! She sat us down asked us what we wanted to drink, brought our drinks and we sat there for about 15 mins, no menus and right in front where all the employees were passing by. If this is how long it's taking us to even get a menu we were not going to wait and see how much longer it would have taken them to notice us and for us to order food and get our food! We were starving! We decided to go up and ask them if we can pay for our drinks so we can leave! 2 employees started to blame each other, the server for our section never came and then the girl who sat us was blamed bc she didn't let the server know. So basically we would have sat there for who knows how long bc no server was indicated to serve our table. I just don't understand why one out of all those employees there could not come by our table and ask how we are doing! ?!Employees were literally passing by our table!!! And It's not like they were busy, that place was empty!!!!!!!! They let us go without paying for the drinks we only took a sip out of, so I guess that was nice , but one of them said in Spanish sarcastically just drink it already like if we were in there for a free coke . (Maybe thinking we didn't speak Spanish) I don't know if he heard us or not but just in case he didn't hear me as I was walking out "teníamos hambre no sed!!, pero gracias por su estupenda hospitalidad ". This place is horrible honestly earlier in the day I tried to call in an order and they asked to put me hold for a brief moment i said yes almost 13 min later I'm still on hold. I ended hanging up and going home. Later in the night I called in my order I got a garden burger and then was a little indecisive on what else I wanted I ended up going with the bacon burger when we got she told me about 15 min we got there 18 min later and they told us the only order was for a bacon burger. Upset I took it and went home only to find out the bun was hot on the burger but the meat was cold as well as the fries!! I had the Bacon Cheeseburger and it was solid. It was juicy but not greasy which is key. The fries that came with it were sub par. My sister had the Chinese Chicken salad and she said it was really good. My Neice had the Chicken Tenders and she had no complaints. Overall, the food and service was above average. This location will treat you right. The team is very lively and attentive to the guests. The food was prepared so quickly, could not have asked for a better burger. It's a Rubys so the food is the same as any other Ruby's. However the service is very poor. Long waits, mistakes, abandoned tables with people wanting to order, get drinks or get food. They need to do a better job training their staff. No smiles. read more

Came here with my girlfriend on a Wednesday night. I ordered a cob salad, she ordered the Rubin and a sprite. I told the waiter that I really dislike blue cheese crumbles, and to please make sure the salad would come with none. He never brought the sprite to the table, and the salad was loaded with blue cheese crumbles. My girlfriend's sandwich was cold, and had probably been sitting out for a while. Neither of us ate more than half of our food, and the waiter didn't even notice/ care enough to ask why. He put the sprite on the bill, and we actually had to get a manager to take it off. This place is very poorly managed, and as much as I love Ruby's, I will never be back to this location. read more

For the price(which is a little outrageous for the size/quality of food) I would rather go about anywhere else. I would not recommend this Ruby's. When me and my girlfriend went in it just felt like the workers were not happy to be working there to be honest. First, there was a piece of hair that were on my girlfriend's fries. Secondly, how hard is it to make a banana split??? When we ordered this, it honestly took about 10-15 minutes just for it to come to our table. Once we got it we looked at and we were like why was the ice cream melted to the bottom. So we started to think that y'all already made it but just left it to sit somewhere without have a clue or simply forgetting that we ordered it. And last the real reason I'm writing this is because YALL's FOOD MADE MY GIRLFRIEND HAVE FOOD POISONING!! ARE U SERIOUS!!! Like is your guys' burgers even cooked properly??? A few hours after we ate my girlfriend started to have stomach problems and agonizing pain within her stomach. So we both came into the conclusion that she's got food poisoning. Coke was not mixed well, coffee had grounds in it, blue cheese dressing had the consistency of warm milk, sandwich was missing dressing, two sides were incorrect or missing. I asked the hostess if it was "kids eat free night"... after she looked at a piece of paper in her desk drawer she confirmed "YES it is kids eat free night." Ordered a kids meal as part of our order. Waited over 20+ minutes for our meal. Food was good but our server seemed very rushed.....he never stopped by to check on us during our meal, no drink refills and never pre-bussed our table. It was full of baskets and dishes at the time we left. Usually when a server drops the bill it's a great time to start bussing plates so your customers have elbow room and don't have to look at dirty dishes. We get our bill with kids meal charged $$ to it. When I mention that the hostess said it was "kids eat free night" he tells me that was yesterday and I have to pay for the kids meal. This would of been a good time for the server to say "she made a mistake, but we'll take it off your bill since it was our fault"......nope did not happen. Overall not a great outing to Rubys Diner in San Clemente. This location seems to still have some issues they need to work on before they can receive 5 star status. read more

Since the Rubys in my city has since closed when I'm in the area I come to this one. I read the reviews prior to coming here and figured I'd just see for myself because I love this place. Well to start off, this review is not about the food. The food still tasted good. It was more so about the service, took forever to get drinks- then when they asked us if we wanted refills later on they gave us the wrong drinks. My boyfriends order was messed up, they gave him a beyond meat burger instead of a regular bacon burger that he asked for. Beyond meat is vegan, and I was a little upset because it shows how easily they dont listen. What if he had an allergy? We got the bill and they didnt correct it after we already told them we didnt order that meal- it was more expensive. Overall the server was not attentive at all. Great place but needs better employees by far! read more

Was really looking forward to lunch with my family until we arrived. We were initially told there would be a 20 minute wait even though there were plenty of open tables. After waiting for 15 or so minutes we found out from others waiting, not the employees themselves, that their computers were down so they couldn't take orders and wouldn't be seating anyone for 45-50 minutes. I understand technology doesn't always work but didn't like that they weren't letting us know the wait was going to be longer. An hour later we got a table and were basically ignored for the first 15 minutes until my husband finally asked for a waiter. After we ordered and the food arrived they had forgotten an entire meal only for it to be wrong once it arrived. Would consider going back but the staff needs to get it together. Oh, my. Love Ruby's elsewhere, like in Newport, Laguna (especially the Shake Shack), and Oceanside....but this new entry in San Clem is definitely not firing on all cylinders. Been there twice, and orders botched both times---first try, my burger came back raw on the inside (or as Gordon Ramsey would say, "RAWWWW!")...sent it back to be re-fired, and watched my wife eat hers. Not a wonderful dining experience. Second time around, we got an order to go, and my wife's gluten-free bun was in reality PACKED with gluten....which she discovered halfway through. We don't eat GF to be stylish, gluten gives her major problems, and it did that night, too. So I dutifully trucked the offending burger back and waited while they fired up a replacement. Servers are nice enough, but many have that deer-in-the-headlights look....we'll give 'em a few months to figure things out before we try again. read more

We love Ruby's and we have tried to give this location enough time to get up to speed but I'm done. We will go back to the San Juan location. Again 2 orders of sweat potato fries ice cold and cold French toast. The butter wouldn't even melt. Every time there's an issue with the food and people around us we're complaining too. Servers are nice but not well trained. Never came back to see how the food was and didn't ask if anything was wrong when we left most of the food on the plates. read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would. I came in on a slow Monday afternoon at around 3:30. My boyfriend and I waited 10 minutes for a waitress and no one ever came. Instead they completely ignored us and helped the other 2 tables around us that had been seated about 5 minutes after us. It was ridiculous! I was there on Thursday with my mom and my 2 kids, my server Maria (short pretty girl) was super sweet and friendly! She even split a Sunday for my kids since it was my moms birthday but she couldn't have it! She was on top of things and made our meal very pleasant! Like other reviews, the food is.....Ruby's. Decent enough that my wife and I have been to this location 3 times in the last month. However, unlike the Irvine Ruby's that we went to at least weekly for several years when we lived there, the service at the San Clemente location isn't very good. Such a shame because it is convenient, and we love the decor (and music). I can't help but wonder where the manager is ?? I love this place. It is very family friendly and is always full of children with smiles on their faces. Granted, it now normally has a wait to get in. We are from San Clemente and have been coming to Ruby's since it opened. Service ok while it was not as busy at the outlets. Now, the last 6 weeks or longer, service is unacceptable and not professional at all. The Manager on duty (usually on sunday mornings) has no customer service skills at all. Does not understand the service industry. Today's experience finally led me to write the review and highlight the areas they need to address starting with the Manager. The staff seems to be working really hard and is very apologetic for the lack of service. It is not the staff. They need to pay attention to the management. It is the same excuse, "short-staffed". The shakes we ordered were not made until we were almost done with our meals because the person that makes the shakes was not it yet. Really? Anyhow, location is great, the food is good once you get it, do not expect good customer service. read more
