Worst customer service ever! Just left this place after being seated for 30 mins with no acknowledgement from the staff. FOUR people walked by me and my son and said nothing. They kept coming to the table next to us asking if they needed anything, the table wanted shakes so I thought ok after this guy puts in their shake order he'll come attend to us. NOPE !after 10 mins he brought the people next to us their shakes, looked at me and kept walking. Unbelievable how rude these people were. I got up and left after that. Whoever worked on Sunday 3/19 needs to get some additional training on how to properly work at a restaurant. Never going back and I've been a customer for years. read more

Finally decided to make a trip back here after a long long time. I remembering liking it here so thought I'd give it another chance. Walking in we were told to choose a table to the right which is where all the guests were sitting. We got the last booth that would fit us. Server came a couple minutes later and we ordered our drinks. The server was super nice but service was just too slow throughout the whole dining. They forgot to give us kids menus so when we got those it seemed like forever til our order got placed. I never get burgers, ever. But this time I decided I wanted to try one. I got the bacon cheeseburger which was okay. It seemed dry and bacon had a weird flavor. The cheese on it was a thick cut so I did like that. The fries are thin, nothing special. The shakes however, are really good. We shared a chocolate peanut butter shake and there wasn't enough of it. Back to service. It was just slow to get everything. Refills...place order...getting our food. I wasn't impressed at all and just wanted to get out of there as it was getting late! I felt the prices didn't meet the foods taste. I would give a lower review but I know there are staff shortages right now. My issue with this location is the decline of the restaurant itself. We have been here a couple time in the last few months for convenience however the place is always dirty looking inside and the restaurant needs a makeover badly. The posters and decor are all beyond faded and look destroyed by the sun over time. Please spend some money to renovate this restaurant and hire more staff to present Ruby's like it used to be like 10 years ago. It's just been a steady decline of food quality and service over the years. Even the menu has shrunken to half of what it used to be at one point. read more

We stopped in for breakfast. Our server Guadalupe (Lupe) provided excellent customer service. We had a few special requests. Not only did he fulfull our requests, but he was gracious. It was evident to us that he truly aims to satify his customers. He was knowledgeable with the menu options and, best all, our meal done right! Please stop by and see for yourself. Our server was fantastic, the food was pretty much OK. The two stars, unfortunately, were for the manager's refusal to address a problem with some (about 8) wayward kids who were running all through the restaurant and out of control. Before you start shaking your finger at me and calling me old fashioned (I'll admit to that, by the way) let me tell you a couple of things. First, I know it was RUBY's, not some 5 star dining establishment. I expect a higher than normal noise level and a fairly large mixture of kids and young people who may or may not talk loudly and move quickly. What I don't think was appropriate was the way the herd of children (all between about 6 years old and probably 12 or 13) were allowed to occupy the empty booth directly next to ours and hop all around it like animals, or how they went between their families four booths or so at the end of the restaurant (where the adults in their party, most likely all relatives or some group members meeting) were pointedly ignoring their antics and frankly seemed relieved that the kids were playing up far from their conversations. I really thought that when the kids attacked the bank of counter seats and started spinning the round stools at faster and faster speeds, that the manager would step in and politely ask them to return to their booths and to remain with their families. But it didn't happen. In fact, nothing happened until I asked our waitress for our bill and let her know that the antics of the children were in essence forcing us to leave much sooner than we would have done. She apologized very sincerely to me and to our whole table which was nice of her even though it was not her fault the kids were acting up. I told her as much and asked whether there was a manager working that evening that we could speak to, and she pointed out the caucasian man who was actually waiting on the group of people and was fully aware of the hyperactive kids and their stunts. Yes, I was sort of shocked at that. That is terrible management, not just from the perspective of irritating other guests who are eating there, but also from simply a liability aspect. What if one of the kids tripped or slipped while running and acting up? The parents, I'm sure, would think nothing of suing Ruby's for pain and suffering. Besides the kids being out of control and getting the full go ahead from their parents' ignorance and from the manager also implying consent by ignoring their behavior, the men's restroom was completely flooded; as was discovered by someone in our party. He told the staff when he noticed it (he took his daughter to the restroom) and was told they would take care of it. Last point: our very nice server tried to remedy the situation by quietly mentioning the issue we brought up to her manager who then had a conversation with the person paying the bill for the disruptive kid's booths...only trouble was, the manager was sort of snickering, like, "Oh you know how some people are..." sort of look and we DID notice it. Especially when the rest of the four booths full of people heard about it and called their kids back to their tables and then shot us dirty looks for the 10 minutes it took for us to gather our coats and get the heck out of there. Bottom line: We do not recommend eating here or even ordering out from here. I would not support their efforts to run a business given the lack of effort they took to make sure we had a reasonable experience at their place. Of course we still tipped our waitress, she had nothing to do with it....but a word of warning. Not sure if it is the location in the middle of Whittier, though I hate to use that reasoning for the lack of manners of this particular group of kids or if the parents were just sorely lacking in parenting skills. Either way, avoid it at all costs. For those of you still wondering about the food: turkey pot pie: yummy and hot. Garlic fries: great garlic but cold. Chili fries: hot and tasty. Child's mac n cheese: good for kids. Shakes: we've had better. read more

Had the spicy frings appy. Multi-flavored cokes and burgers. Slow, real slow service. But we had a free burger coupon. Then, later, when digesting, and again after helping us to the leftovers, the food caused a lot of pain and discomfort. Have to change to AVOID. You can get sick! read more

My friend and I drove from Hollywood to Whittier to take an exam, because that's what cool people do. We had to stop by someplace to rest and refuel before the big test, so we settled on Ruby's Diner. When we walked in the facilities were bright, clean, and welcoming. We were seated as soon as we entered. I ordered the Kobe beef sliders which came with endless fries and a cup of coffee on top of that. The beef was tender and surprisingly not greasy. The grilled onions and pepper jack cheese melted with the beef without overwhelming the natural flavor of the meat. The burger was served on sweet hawaiian bread which was both soft and sweet... a nice contrast to the saltiness of the meaty center. The coffee was nothing to brag about. A bit on the sour side, which is a little sad because I always thought that diners and cafes should be notorious for their coffee. Maybe, I just have high expectations. At the very least the waitress was very attentive, and my coffee mug was never empty. The food was cheap and plentiful. I left quite satisfied and I will definitely return again when I'm in the area. Service is extremely slow. We were seated immediately upon arrival. The place was empty. There were only 2 other tables occupied so naturally we thought we would be greeted by a server shortly to take our drink order. There was a waiter named Lupe who saw us and never came to our table to tske our drink order. Didn't even acknowledge us. We sat there for 15 minutes and no one came over. Lupe walked by us a couple if times and didn't acknowledge us. We had to get up and ask a hostess to have someone take our order. The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because the waitress who helped us was ver friendly and she apologized for the experience. I do enjoy the traditional American vibe of Ruby's diner. Burgers, shakes, and etc but am not a fan of the cost of the food. Our server, Lupe G, was very attentive! Really enjoyed his service during our meal! 1 shake, strawberry banana 1 Hickory Burger, w/ sweet potato fries Two slices of melted Cheddar cheese, with thick-cut bacon, crisp lettuce, tomato, RubySauce and crispy RubyRings, all topped with zesty BBQ sauce. 1 Guacamole Burger, w/ sweet potato fries Topped with a generous portion of housemade guacamole, two slices of Swiss cheese, crisp lettuce, tomato and RubySauce. All fries are re-fillable but our first batch of sweet potato fries were burnt to a crisp! They were left in the fryer for awhile. We were both surprised that the cooks and the server did not notice how poorly they were fried. We had to ask for another batch since these are not edible. I live fairly close to this Ruby's and every few years I go back and I am just reminded of why I don't go more often. Over the years I have collected some not so great memories, from bad dishes to hair in my food, I have not been a fan. The last time so went was because I had a gift card, the service was awful and it took a really long time for us and the other patrons to get our food. The only thing I would get from here are the milkshakes and maybe a cherry Coke. Just make sure there isn't a hair in it before drinking. read more

I loved the 1950's vibe and decor throughout the restaurant. Unfortunately, the bathrooms were unable to be used and being pregnant that was already a total downer for me upon just sitting down. Especially since when I asked our server about it she said I could walk far across the parking lot to Kohls and was just very rude about it. I will say that the service throughout the night continued to be very below average. It was more than clear she did not want to be at work and could care less about our dining experience. Not letting that detour us, we decided to stay and order our food. Our food definitely made up for the poor service. My aunt (Ruby Melt), mom (Cobb Burger), and I (Ranch Burger) all agreed our burgers were defiantly on the list of our best burgers! Recently went here and the chicken finger salad (off menu item) NEVER disappoints. We also order frings and a burger. The onion rings were nice and crispy however the fries were soggy which I understand due to condensation from the take out boxes. Although the burger happened to look like a sandwich, so were unsure if it was a wrong order or not. But the bread was also soft due to the condensation. Sorry, but I think I've tolerated Ruby's through it's changing ownership, managers and staff for the last 12-years because Today was terrible! Service took a long time and as usual, more often then not, the fries were delivered to the table only warm not hot and crisp from the fryer as you would expect. I usually have the burger and it's always juicy, but tonight's Super Burger fell very short. You can tell it sat on the counter after being sliced in half because the cut of the meat was dry and not juicy moist as you would expect from a fresh hot burger. My granddaughter's chicken strips tasted as if the were double fried and had an off flavor to them. Just a bad meal. Oh, and the calamari strips were terrible. We went in for an early dinner yesterday. We are always impressed by how clean it looks. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately. It was actually busier than I expected at 4:45 pm. The host was very friendly, took our drink order and delivered it quickly. The waiter was also very friendly. Food arrived quickly. It was hot, fresh and cooked to order. I love coming to Ruby's but not this one. We waited about 45 minutes to be called. We went in and asked if they called our name and the little girl in the front said we will be called next bcuz we didn't hear them call us the first time. 10 minutes pass and still waiting to be called. We came back in and this time told a manager. The gentleman seated us right away and told us that the little girl called us but we never came when in fact she never did.
