We've been to this and other Ruby's often over the years and we've noticed a consistent decline in quality. Because it was convenient to where we were today, we decided to try again. I ordered what they acclaimed as the "best corned beef anywhere"! If dry, tasteless meat is the best, I'd hate to try worse! We love kids eat free Tuesdays! Kids love getting gum balls (and free floats if it's a red one!). Food is yummy and generous with pickles and fries refills. Winona always welcomes us with a smile and great service. We come here often to celebrate as a family. read more

The food is good here however it's upsetting when I place an order online for a certain pick up time and I get to the location just to be told nothing has been made yet. What was the point of ordering ahead then? My coworkers and I have a limited time eating lunch which is why I placed the order ahead of time. I usually have a better experience but for some reason, tonight was really off. Idk if it was due to the car show but they ran out of glasses and my vanilla root beer was served in a paper cup. My cheeseburger had very little flavor and the ruby's sauce was nonexistent. I ordered the Cajun fries thinking they'd be tossed with jalapeños or something and they were just covered in seasoned salt. My 2 year old could even eat it, so Cajun it wasn't. Had the RubyClub sandwich for lunch today. This is always really good and today was no different. REAL carved turkey (NOT deli meat), bacon, lettuce, tomato on a nice roll. Stopped by to have lunch at this beautiful place in the heart of Whittier area. In was in the big shopping mall on the Whittier blvd. The restaurant was next to 24 fitness and Sears. There were many small businesses near by in the same mall. I ordered a big and juicy burger, it was good and very delicious. It came with French fried so it made my lunch complete. The place was clean and there was a plenty of rooms for customers either seated inside or outside. Services here were outstanding and friendly. This was our second time that we've been disappointed with the operations of this business. Whoever is managing is failing at their task. Tonight was a repeat of the lack of cleanliness, several tables not bussed and numerous people not being served. We put our name on the wait list for two people. A family with 2 adults and 3 small children arrived after we did. And the hostess seated them before us in a booth that was adequate for two of us. So the argument that a larger table available was available first was not the case. Needless to say we walked out and went across the parking lot and had a much better experience at Red Robin. Attention to the owner of Ruby's Diner change your management staff and require your employees to follow some type of structure. It was chaotic and the employees were moving at snails pace. Ruby's is a local hot spot, A + They allow fundraising that help our local schools raise $$. I love the gum ball machine!! If a red one rolls out, Booom!! you get a free root beer float. It wasn't a packed house but 3-4 groups walked in at same time. Nonetheless our food did come out in a timely manner.. They serve SHOESTRING fries!! My favorite.. with the guacamole cheeseburger meal it was endless fries. Score!! The spread on burger is mayo just fyi:) The patty was thick! Our server was cool, very attentive. Provided us with some crafting of a pop up Chevy cardboard with stickers that did entertain the lil one for a bit! My Rubyclub also hit the spot with the toasted bread & crisp bacon.. I substituted reg fries for chili fries which were ok for me. The chili had diced tomatoes that I didn't care for! My son has a free meal reward from school so we are looking forward to returning. This place has gone downhill so badly over the last couple of years. I used to love coming here, but the quality of food and the service has gotten progressively worse. When we came in, there was one other family. Two other groups came in after us and ordered and were served before us. When our food finally came, my french toast was cold. When I told the waiter, he said "Ok, enjoy" ??? The yolks were hard boiled on my mom's and my friend's Eggs Benedict. The potatoes were cold and uncooked. I'm not sure why the food was so poorly cooked when there were only 4 groups in the whole restaurant. I'm not even going to comment on the food presentation, but suffice it to say it didn't look anything like the pictures in the menu. I know that the food served in restaurants rarely looks exactly like the pictures, but these went even close. It's really too bad because this place was really great when Clive was the General Manager a few years ago. All the waiters and waitresses we're great. The food was good and also hot. I don't know who the general manager is now, but it is very evident they are not paying their employees much. I know a lot of places are understaffed because there's not enough interest in these kinds of jobs, but seriously. I imagine that I'm not the only one who feels this way as this place was empty on a Sunday at 9:00 - 9:30am. Most restaurants are jammed at this time for breakfast. I have ALWAYS loved Ruby's for their delicious malts, especially the Peanut Butter Cup. So when they opened this location close to my hometown, I was pretty relieved! They are always consistent on solid comfort food and they are down to Earth. Now that we live in Pandemic times, I'm even more grateful they are still doing business. They offer take out or delivery. Just had a great lunch. Hubby had the roast turkey sandwich which was excellent. His sandwich came with fries that were good I had a hard time not eating just one. I ordered the Cobb salad and is was super filling lots of the toppings that many restaurants tend to skimp on. Yummy crumbled blue cheese and blue cheese dressing. We had the pleasure of being waited on by Winona, the restaurant was short staffed and had a lot of customers yet Winona was very courteous and pleasant. The smokey grilled burger smell coming out of the chimney of this Ruby's always tempts me to come in. Themed and designed after American Diners of the 40's Swing Era, the atmosphere also adds to the authenticity. Five out of five stars for me hands down. My entire family has been coming here to eat for fifteen years. As far as I am concerned, Ruby's is the only significant chain, and one of the last remaining places period, to get a burger exactly the way you want it no questions asked. Do try the Mushroom Swiss Burger, which uses real Swiss cheese and not white American "cheese". Beyond delish. If you come during a weekday afternoon/evening, make a point to ask for the server Winona. I love this chain. The menu is immense, the food is consistently excellent, decor is great and the staff is nice. All except the Anaheim location. It's beautifully designed, but woefully mismanaged. The food, staffing and hours are all inconsistent. On a Saturday night, with a dozen empty tables, you may wait for 45 minutes because they're understaffed. Service is often slow, despite two hustling servers, but they're overworked and can't service their tables properly. Unlike the other locations, the kitchen often makes the wrong dish. It would seem they can't keep their employees for very long. Headquarters should void their franchise, take it over and run it correctly. I'm pulling for it to improve. read more

My family and I decided to have dinner at Ruby's Diner. I use to be a condiment Queen, but after today I was traumatized. Sad to say, but they had a spoiled bottle of ketchup sitting on our table. It was the most disgusting thing that has ever happened to me. I had to excuse myself from the table and rush to the bathroom. I mentioned it to the waiter, but I am hoping that they recheck all their condiments for expiration dates. Such a disappointment! I went to have lunch with my two daughters to celebrate one of their birthdays. We came here specifically for the chili cheese fries for the birthday girl. As we were waiting for our food, the waitress informs us there was no more chili for the chili cheese fries. My daughter was extremely disappointed so we decided to leave. We paid for our drinks and left. I was very disappointed that it was noon and they were out of chili already. We were not offered to wait longer while they made more, there was no options just there's no more chili today. So I guess they not going to make chili for the rest of the day, it was literally noon. I was also bothered that we paid seven dollars for a kids drink and a regular soda, even after we decided not to eat here. It would have been good customer service to not charge us for drinks for not having an item that is offered several times in the menu for different meals. I walked away from this experience not feeling valued as a customer or a person. I don't want to assume anything else was happening other than they ran out of chili. We came to Rubys for my moms birthday dinner. It took 30 minutes for my shake to be made. I was the only one who ordered a shake when we ordered our appetizers. The rest of the table ordered shakes when the server took our food order. Even though I ordered my shake before anyone else mine still came out later when everyone else's shakes came out.We finished our zucchini appetizers and stacked up our baskets hoping the server would pick them up so we had room at the table and she didn't. The empty trays were finally picked up when the shakes were delivered. Getting our first refills took awhile. Menus sat on our table until all the food had been delivered. I work not too far from this diner and I come here with a coworker every now and then. There always seem to only be one person working. We got there around noon and there were probably 6-7 tables that were occupied and only one lady working. Took a while to order, get our food and to get the bill because she was running back and fourth helping other tables. The food is good. I always get the american cheeseburger and fries. Worst customer service ever! Just left this place after being seated for 30 mins with no acknowledgement from the staff. FOUR people walked by me and my son and said nothing. They kept coming to the table next to us asking if they needed anything, the table wanted shakes so I thought ok after this guy puts in their shake order he'll come attend to us. NOPE !after 10 mins he brought the people next to us their shakes, looked at me and kept walking. Unbelievable how rude these people were. I got up and left after that.
